Medford- Righty Aram Manoukian threw five and one third innings of no hit baseball and rookie catcher Danny Chaisson of UMass Lowell belted a three run homer as the Reds jumped all over the young Chiefs 9-1 at Playstead Park on Tuesday evening.

Manoukian was dominant and took a no-no into the the bottom of the sixth when Doug Heald (Tewksbury, MA, Merrimack) broke up his bid with a clean single to center.

Manoukian easily set the Chiefs down and the closest the locals came to a hit in the first five innings was in the second when first baseman John Lynch (Villanova University) made a spectacular grab of a laser off the bat of Mike Andre that was earmarked for the right field corner.

The Reds roughed up three Chiefs pitchers for nine runs, including starter Mike Chandler (3 IP, 2 R, 2H) who departed after three innings with some minor arm stiffness.

Chaisson delivered the big blow of the night, a three run shot to left in the fifth, off reliver Matt Phlean.  Mark Blake, in his first appearance of the season, worked the sixth and seventh for the Chiefs alllowing a run and couple of hits.

The Chiefs averted the shutout in the seventh against Reds reliever Brad Kittle (Framingham St.) on hits from Justin Crisafulli and Chandler and a RBI single from pinch hitter Jimmy Buldini.

With the win ,Watertown goes to 3-1 on the year while the Chiefs fall to 2-3-1.

Former Malden Catholic all-scholastic and present UMass-Amherst righty Mike DiCato will make the first start of his ICL career on Wednesday night when the Chiefs travel to Trum Field in Somerville to take on the Cassell Club at 7:00 PM.

These great Chiefs fans will be missed.

Medford- Unable to come up with a clutch hit despite banging out 11 of them, the young Chiefs went down to their second straight defeat, 6-2 to the defending ICL Champion Lexington Blue Sox at Playstead Park on Monday evening.

Veteran Blue Sox southpaw Bill Cooke (2-0) was just sharp enough to go the distance, escaping major jams in both the sixth and seventh innings.

Lexington took a 1-0 lead in the first off Chiefs rookie starter and loser Connor Bishop of Arlington, MA on a RBI single by Dan Hughes.
The Chiefs went 1-2-3 in the home half of the first and Bishop allowed a lead off second inning double to Eric Poling of Greenville College but stranded him there getting the next three Sox batters in order.

The Chiefs ran themselves out of a potential scoring threat in their half of the second. After two were out, Mike Andre lined a single to left center and catcher Ryan Sheehan blooped a hit to right. With Jim Buldini at the plate, Poling picked Sheehan off first to end the inning.

Lexington made it a 3-0 game in the third, the key blow being a Sean McElroy RBI double.

It went to 4-0 in the fourth on a Brian Abraham (Holy Cross) sacrifice fly as the Sox chased Bishop from the mound in favor of Matt Phelan.  The Chiefs left a couple of more runners (Mike Chandler, Phil Costello singles) stranded in the bottom of the inning.

Phelan and Cooke both worked scoreless fifth innings. Paul Bratton took over for Phelan in the sixth before the Chiefs closed the gap to 4-2 on singles from Brian Macrina and Andre (2 for 3) and a double off the bat of Chandler (2 for 4) and had the tying runs on base before Cooke got pinch hitter Matt Boleski to ground out.

The Sox added two big insurance runs in the seventh off Bratton compliments of a Abraham double, a HBP and a Jake Dillard (SW Oklahoma) RBI single.

The Chiefs welcomed Cook to the seventh with three consecutive singles from Doug Heald, Rich Montecalvo and Macrina (2 for 4) to load the bases with no outs. Cooke came up big and got Justin Crisafulli to foul out, Chandler to fly to left and Costello to sharply ground out to short to end the frustrating night for the now 2-2-1 Chiefs. Lexington stayed perfect on the season and in first place at 4-0-0.

Medford- The Chiefs furious sixth and seventh inning rally came up just a few feet short as the Cassell Club handed the tribe their first loss of the season, 7-5 Tuesday night at Playstead Park.

Matt Boleski's bid to tie the game in the seventh ended at the right field warning track with a couple of Chiefs aboard.

Cassell scored a single run in the first, a couple of more in the second and a put up a three spot in the third against Chiefs starter and loser Mike Coppinger (1-1) to take a 6-0 lead.

Connor Bishop pitched a scoreless fifth in relief of Coppinger
(5 IP, 6 R, 9 H, 2BB, 4 K's)  but the Cassell lead went to 7-0 in the sixth off Matt Phelan before the Chiefs began their comeback.

Cassell southpaw Tim Dunphy cruised along through the first five innings allowing only two singles to Phil Costello and Mike Andre.

With out one in the sixth, Justin Crisafulli got the Chiefs going when he doubled down the left field line and Boleski pinch ran for him. Mike DiCato followed with a single to right putting runners on the corners. Mike Chandler then singled to right scoring Boleski to make it a 7-1 game. Andre ( 2 for 3, RBI) then lined a single to left to score DiCato to make it 7-2. An infield throwing error allowed two more runs to score and make it 7-4 before Dunphy regained his form and got pinch hitter Jim Swift to bounce back to him.

Phelan got the first two outs of the Cassell seventh before lefty Dean Corsi came on to retire pinch hitter Tim Dempsey.

The Chiefs made things mighty interesting in the bottom of the seventh when Richie Montecalvo led off with a double and Costello singled to left. Boleski came to the plate and launched a long drive to right that Mike Maguire made a nice over the shoulder catch on at warning track. Maguire then fired a strike to first baseman Dan Neczypor to double Costello off first. On the play Montecalvo tagged and scored from third. Dunphy settled down and got the last out putting and end to the Chiefs comeback bid.

Medford- The Chiefs escaped Playstead Park last night with a 2-2 tie against the Americans. Their record now stands at 2-0-1 entering tonight's game vs. the Cassell Club at Playstead Park at 6:00 PM.

The Chiefs took a 1-0 lead in the second inning against Americans starter Ryan Maguire.
Justin Crisafulli and Mike DiCato both walked and Mike Andre delivered the Chiefs only hit of the night, a line drive to centerfiield.

The Chiefs made it 2-0 in the third, without the benefit of a hit, when Rich Montecalvo struck out but reached first on a passed ball.  Montecalvo then stole second and scored when Brian Macrina's potential inning ending grounder to short was throw away.

Chiefs starter Mike Lanciani, who cruised threw the first five innings with a two-hitter, had some stiffness in his elbow and did not come out for the sixth. Mike DiCato relieved Lanciani and was touched up for two runs and three hits, the key blow being a two out, 2 RBI single to center by Maguire.

The Chiefs threatened in the top of the seventh when Andre walked and Sean O'Brien was a hit by a pitch to put runners on first and second with one out. Americans releiver Mike McCarthy ended the threat when he got Matt Boleski and Phil Costello to both fly out to left.

DiCato issued a leadoff walk in the seventh and a sacrifice bunt moved the potential game winning run into scoring position. Lefthander Connor Bishop took over for DiCato against left handed hitting pinch hitter Andrew Bourque and struck him out for the inning's second out. Medford's Paul Bratton was summoned from the bullpen to face the righthanded Mike Burgoyne and he got him to line to Chiefs second baseman Doug Heald who made an outstanding leaping catch on a ball that seemed destined for right center to end the game.

Mike Coppinger (1-0) is expected to be the Chiefs starter tonight against the Cassell Club.
