Floral Arts10  Willis Tent 2

The Westford Over 30 Men's Softball League kicked off the 2011 season last Tuesday night with two games. Floral Arts defeated Willis Tent, 10-2. Floral Arts' Simon Tripp hit a two-run , had 3 RBIs, and scored three runs, while Larry Mardany pitched a nearly perfect game. James Gibson, back after breaking his leg last season in the first game of the year, went 3 for 3 and played solid outfield defense. Mark Leary and Dave Harrington were standouts for Willis.

Mustangs 7  PST 6

The Mustangs, winners of the 2009 and 2010 league championship, beat PST, 7-6. In the bottom of the seventh inning, Mustang Bill Knute drove home Steve Gomes to win the game--a walk-off single. Jay Dolan and Jack McGrath bolstered the defense with some stellar plays in the outfield. PST's Dave Weaver hit a home run and Jerry Cressman had two of the eight PST hits.

Mustangs 13  Willis 0

The Mustangs' consistent defense helped to keep Willis scoreless last Friday evening. Mustang Mark Cusano hit a grand slam and Mustangs rookies Mike Kennedy and Jack Erickson turned in solid performances.

Floral Arts 17  PST 6

Floral Arts' pitchers Billy Luppold and Simon Tripp combined to defeat PST, 18-5. PST's Jerry Cressman was one of four teammates with multi-hit games, leading the offense with a two-run homer. Floral Arts rookies Jonathan Morgan (2 for 3, 2 RBIs) and Geoff Pavao (3 for 3, home run) played well for Floral Arts.

The 2011 season kicked off on Sunday with the One Pitch Jamboree, giving each team a chance to see their rookies in action, get some live swings, and enjoy the post-game bbq.  The weather cooperated for the third year in a row and, once again, the bbq was hosted by the defending League Champion Mustangs.

Opening Day is on Tuesday, with Willis Tent playing Floral Arts and PST opening with the Mustangs.  Games start at 6:30.
