Posted by John Bodi at May 21, 2011 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

Rainouts on Tuesday and Wednesday reduced the schedule to just three games, all occurring on Friday night.

PST 10 - SCL 7

Tim Schutt (4 for 4, 2 home runs, 3 runs, and 2 RBI) led PST to a 10-7 victory over Short Cut in the first game Friday night. PST's 17-hit attack saw five PST players with two hits apiece and included a Jerry Cressman home run. Short Cut's Mike Gross chipped in with a home run and played exceptional defense at third base. The game ended when PST squelched a Short Cut rally in the bottom of the seventh by turning a 6-4-3 double play.

Mustangs 16 - Drew Farms 3 (run rule)

In the second game of the evening, the undefeated Mustangs improved their record to 4-0 with a 16-3 win over Drew Farms, which lost its first game this season. Mustang hitters Jay Dolan and Jim Ward combined to get on base eight times and score seven runs. Jack Erickson authored a couple of athletic defensive plays.

Floral Arts 19 - Healy Oil 6 (run rule)

Banks of fog rolled in while Floral Arts defeated Healy Oil, 19-6, in the late game. Floral Arts' Dave O'Keefe (2 home runs, 5 RBI) fired up the offense and was blazing on defense, making several nice plays in the outfield, including a diving catch. Roger's Recap - Week 2

Posted by John Bodi at May 15, 2011 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

Short Cuts 19 - Mario’s 12

Sixteen total runs crossed the plate in the first inning, but Short Cuts ultimately defeated Mario's, 19-12, last Tuesday night. Jon Russo and Thanh Nguyen each homered for Mario’s. Short Cuts exceeded the home run limit and belted 24 hits.  Mike Gross broke the 12-12 tie with a sixth-inning hit that cleared the fence, plated a run.  But because it was the seventh Short Cut home run of the game, Gross' homer was reduced to a single.

Drews 15 - Healy Oil 13

Despite a late-game Homeric effort by Healy Oil, which scored eight runs in the seventh inning, Drew Farms outlasted Healy Oil, 15-13. Drew Farms' Dave Guthrie hit two home runs, including a sixth-inning grand slam. Scott Cole chipped in with a two-run homer. Drew Farms turned three double plays, thanks to the outstanding defensive play of shortstop Mark Kost, second basemen Don Barnas and Matt Chamberlain, and first basemen Alex Lelchook and Gary Davis. Brian Egan and Mike Martin each hit home runs for Healy Oil.

Floral Arts 11 - Mustangs 12

On Wednesday night, the finalists in last year's playoffs met for the first time this season. The reigning champion Mustangs defeated Floral Arts, 12-11, in a back-and-forth contest. Don Cusano hit two home runs for the Mustangs, including the game winner, and Jack McGrath knocked in four runs. A clutch double play orchestrated by Mustangs’ Paul Selfridge, Dan Crogan, and Brian Foley, iced the game in the seventh. Floral Arts hit six home runs in the losing effort, including home runs from James Peloquin (2), Simon Tripp (2), Mike Spanos, and Geoff Pavao.

PST 23 - Willis Tent 16

Rob Swinamer hit four solo home runs for Willis Tent, but an 11-run PST outburst in the fifth inning secured the victory, as PST defeated Willis, 23-16. PST rookies, Keith Davighi (3 hits, including his first career homer, and 4 RBI) and Andrew Fletcher (2 hits and 3 RBI), led the 23-hit attack. PST also got three hits apiece from Jeff Morse (5 RBIs), John Bodi, and Jeff Fuller. In addition to Swinamer’s monster game, Willis got three hits each from John Hunter, Jeff Briggs (including a home run), Mark Leary, and Kevin Adolph.

Drews 14 - Mario’s 13

On Friday evening, Dave Guthrie’s walk-off single in the eighth inning edged Drew Farms past Mario’s, 14-13. Mario’s got a big hit by Dave Batchelder (grand slam), which tied the game at 13 in the seventh inning. Also contributing home runs in the loss were Jon Russo and Thanh Nguyen.

Healy Oil 13 - Short Cut 14

Also on Friday, Short Cut defeated Healy Oil, 14-13.
