Roger's Recap - Week 14

Posted by John Bodi at Aug 16, 2011 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

Entering the last week of the regular season, the first place Mustangs (20-2) and second place Floral Arts (19-3) have clinched a first round playoff bye. Six of the eight teams in the league will enter the playoffs. Shortcuts (14-8) has clinched third place, but Willis Tent (10-12), PST (8-14), and Drew Farms (8-15), though guaranteed a playoff berth, are in a close battle for the fourth seed.

Healy 9, Mustangs 6

The recently surging Healy Oil handed the first place Mustangs their second loss of the season on Tuesday night. Bill Knute hit grand slam in the 9-6 Mustangs loss.

PST 16, Mario's Restaurant 10

Playing through rain for the entire game, PST and Mario's competed in an old-fashioned slugfest, with PST prevailing, 16-10. Errant throws were the norm for both sides in the sloppy conditions. PST jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead on a Dave Weaver three-run blast. Mario's then scored four in the top of the second and then six runs in the third to go up 10-4, but PST roared back with seven runs in the bottom of the inning to take an 11-10 lead. PST added four more in the fifth, while holding Mario’s scoreless for the rest of the game. Weaver added his second home run of the game in the sixth.

Floral Arts 7, PST 6

PST's 7th inning three-run rally wasn't enough to overcome two early home runs by Floral Arts. Frank Lancelotta hit a grand slam in the first inning for Floral Arts, and Geoff Pavao his a three-run blast in the third. This run production proved to be just enough to earn the win. John Bodi, Derek Donegan, and Gordan Eddy paced PST's offense with three hits apiece.

Willis Tent 16, PST 3

Willis Tent blew open what was a close game by hitting the six home run limit. Jeff Briggs and John Hunter had two home runs apiece, and Dave Harrington added one of his own. But the talk of the night was the 370-foot blast that Rob Swinamer hit for a home run. Tom Mahanna also had a big night for Willis at the plate. Tim Schutt homered for PST.
