Roger's Recap - Week 6

Mustangs 17 – Healy Oil 3

Undefeated Mustangs continued to roll on Tuesday night, beating Healy Oil, 17-3, in five innings. The Mustangs scored 12 runs in the third inning, four of which were knocked in on Jay Lincoln’s grand slam. Jim Ward and Jack McGrath made several great plays in the outfield for the Mustangs.

Floral Arts 17 - Mario’s Restaurant 7

Floral Arts played its first errorless game of the season while banging out 10 home runs en route to defeating Mario’s, 17-7. Floral Arts James Gibson and Mike Alonardo hit their first home runs of the season, and rookie Jonathan Morgan added two more to pace the attack. Mario's got home runs from Thanh Nguyen and Jon Russo. Rick Waldron made a nice over-the-shoulder catch in short left field.

SCL 5 – PST 2

A four-run outburst in the 6th inning carried SCL to a 5-2 win over PST on Wednesday night. Shortcut Mike Gross’ home run to straightaway center provided the final margin of victory. PST was led by Tim Schutt's 4-4 night (2 doubles and both PST RBIs) and Larry Zupkosky's two hits. Also on Wednesday night, Drew Farms defeated Willis Tent, 7-3.

Mustangs 12 – Mario’s Restaurant 3

On Friday night, Mustangs beat Mario's, 12-3. Craig Smith and Bill Knute had three hits apiece for the Mustangs. Jay Lincoln and Andy Mastandrea both had two hits and played stellar defense at first base. Fred Mettler chipped in with a double and knocked in three runs. Paul Selfridge played his usual gold glove defense at shortstop.

Floral Arts 12 - Healy Oil 6

Floral Arts capitalized on two costly two-out errors to beat the nine-man squad of Healy Oil, 12-6. Floral Arts got home runs from Jonathan Morgan, Tom Semeter, and an inside-the-park homer from Jim Peloquin. Bill Luppold reached base in both of his at-bats (1 for 1, with a walk). Healy Oil’s Bill Martin went 4 for 4.

SUNDAY'S MAKE-UP GAMES POSTPONED AGAIN

This weekend's storms rendered the field unplayable, so Sunday's games had to be postponed yet again.  They will now be played on Sunday, July 10th at the same times.

5:30  Mustangs @ SCL

6:45  PST @ Drew Farms

8:00  Willis Tent @ Mario's Restaurant

Roger's Recap - Week 5

Week 5 was a short one due to the Tornado watch and the WA Graduation.  Congratulations to the Class of 2011!

 

Drew Farms 16 – Willis Tent 5

On Tuesday night, Drew Farms defeated Willis Tent, 16-5. Willis Tent carried a 5-4 lead into the fifth inning, but then Drew Farms posted nine runs. Don Barnas pitched a stellar game for Drew Farms and went 3 for 3 at the plate. Other offensive standouts in the Drew Farms' 16-man line up were Jason Goldthwaite, Mark McAleese, Pat Pawlak, and Todd Shepherd. All four players went 2-3 and scored after getting on.

Floral Arts 11 - Shortcuts 8

Floral Arts held off Shortcut Lawn Care Tuesday night to win 11-8 in a tightly played game. Floral Arts shortstop sensation Jim Peloquin capped a seven-run second inning when he clubbed a three-run homer to left. Chris Smith hit a solo home run for SCL to lead off the game.

WEDNESDAY GAMES POSTPONED

Due to the Tornado watch in effect for the region, the Recreation Department has closed all fields so that tonight's games are postponed.  They will be made up on Wednesday, July 6th, at the same times:

6:30  Mario's Restaurant @ Mustangs

7:45  Healy Oil @ PST

Sunday Night

Short Cuts 14 - Drew Farms 8

Sunday night Short Cut Landscaping crushed six home runs for the second time this season en route to a 14-7 win over Drew Farms. In the third inning, Drew Farms scored seven runs on two swings, as a three-run homer by Gary Murphy and a grand slam by Pat Pawlak made the score 8-7. Short Cut, which held Drew Farms scoreless the rest of the game, got home runs from Chris Smith (2), Rob Prendergast (2), Mike Gross, and Steve Jacobsmeier.

Tuesday Night

Floral Arts 25 - Mario's 8

A two-run home run by Tom Semeter and a grand slam by rookie Jonathan Morgan helped Floral Arts defeat Mario’s, 25-8. Floral Arts has scored 82 runs in five games this season. Pitcher Larry Mardany earned the win and Dean Wormell added three hits to the attack. Thanh Nguyen and Keith Reynolds hit back-to-back home runs for Mario’s

Wednesday Night

Mario’s 9 - PST 6

What seemed like an easy win for Mario’s turned quickly into a nail-biter. Mario’s pitcher Gary Townsend came within one out of pitching a 9-0 shutout before PST erupted for six runs in the bottom of the seventh. The game ended with the potential tying run at the plate. Outfielders Kieran Murray and Tony DeAntonis made key catches to preserve the win. Dave Batchelder (3 for 3) hit a bases-loaded double. PST, which fielded only nine players, was led by Gary Royal, who recorded three hits and knocked in two.

Mustangs 8 – Healy Oil 6

Healy Oil's Matt Critch stepped off of his Harley, changed into his cleats, and then throttled the ball four times over the fence, but it was not enough as the undefeated Mustangs held off a late-game surge to win, 8-6.
