Mustangs Sweep for Third Consecutive Title

Posted by John Bodi at Sep 13, 2015 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

The Nashoba Valley Veterinarian Mustangs are officially a dynasty. On Sunday night they won their third championship in a row and their fifth in seven years as they swept Floral Arts in three games, out scoring Floral, 44-18, in the series. The Mustangs’ series win was the result of excellent defense and offense, with the entire line up producing in all three games. The outstanding Mustangs won 29 of the 31 games they played the season.

Floral Arts 12 - Willis Tent 10

On Tuesday, in the fifth and final game of the second round, Floral Arts erased a 7-4 deficit in the sixth inning by scoring eight runs to go up 12-7 against Willis Tent. In the top of the seventh inning, Willis made a quick out on a fly ball to left field, but then put two men on for power-hitter Rob Swinamer, who had homered earlier in the game. Swinamer then launched a three-run shot to put Willis within two runs. Floral pitcher Larry Mardany then induced two fly outs to earn the victory and send Floral Arts to the league finals for the seventh straight year. Roger Whittlesey (2-run homer, double, 4 RBI), Simon Tripp (homer), Geoff Pavao (homer), and Dave Janowsky (three hits) led the offense for Floral Arts.

Mike Kennedy and Jack Erickson added three hits and three RBI apiece. Jay Dolan chipped in with three hits also, while Mark Cusano had two hits, including the only Mustang home run of the game. Winning pitcher Don Cusano added two hits and two walks to aid his cause. Mustangs steady defense was led by outfielders Erickson and Bill Knute and third baseman Kennedy. Rob Beaudette (solo shot) and Roger Whittlesey (2-for-3, RBI), Frank Lancelotta (two hits), and Dave Janowsky (single) accounted for six of the eight Floral hits in the game.
