Boardman, Ohio - The Ice Wolves found themselves in a quick 2-0 hole in the first minute of the game with Mooney/Usuline on Sunday night and just couldn't recover.

The score was 7-0 before Zach Dawson got a short-handed goal at the 11:32 mark of the second period only to have the Thunder score 9 seconds later to go up 8-1. It was 9-1 just a minute later and stayed that way until Aaron Albright got his first of three straight goals to end the contest.

Albright's first goal with 19 seconds left in the second period was assisted by Joe Pulaski and Alex Swope. He added two power play goals in the third period, the first assisted by Mark Konieczny and Zach Dawson and the second by Dawson and Garrett Binger.

Sophomore goalie, Luke Edgar, had a tough night but did stop 31 of 40 Mooney/Ursuline shots.

Cory Timmings scored 4 goals for the Thunder while Louie Morocco and Brian Styers each scored twice.

Polar Bears Ice the Wolves

Posted by Dave Pulaski at Jan 1, 2010 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )
Canton, Ohio - After a quick start by the Ice Wolves, the Jackson High School Polar Bears coasted to a 9-2 win on Saturday afternoon.

Fremont started off with good energy and eventually got the game's first goal as Jordan Lones put the Ice Wolves up 1-0 with 8:50 left in the first period. The goal, assisted by Alex Swope and Zach Dawson woke up the Bears as Brad Ahbe would get the equalizer just 11 seconds later to take the early momentum back from the Wolves.

The score remained knotted at one each until Ahbe scored two 4 on 4 goals in the last 1:11 of the period to lead 3-1 after one.

The score remained 3-1 until Julia Konieczny brought the Ice Wolves back to within one goal with just under 5 minutes left in the second. Chris Carpenter and Dawson assisted on Konieczny's goal. Once again the Polar Bears got two late goals to take the momentum back. Chris Murphy and Alex Royer had the two Jackson goals and the Bears led 5-2 after two.

The third period was all Jackson as they would get 21 shots in the period and score 4 more times. Nick Hart, Ian MrCarthy, Ahbe and Royer had the third period goals for Jackson.

TJ Humbert recorded 36 saves on 45 Jackson shots on goal for the Ice Wolves.

League Leading Bees Shut Out Ice Wolves

Posted by Dave Pulaski at Dec 19, 2009 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )

Strongsville, Ohio - The undefeated Medina High School Bees skated to a 3-0 shutout of the Ice Wolves on Sunday evening. After a quick goal by Medina's Calvin Juguilon just 1:30 into the game, the Ice Wolves settled in and played a great first period, actually outshooting the Bees.

The short bench started to show in the second period but great goaltending by Luke Edgar kept the score close. Juguilon scored his second goal of the game midway through the second period and Medina led 2-0 after two periods. Casey Galvin completed the scoring for the Bees getting a power play goal with just 2:33 left in the contest.

Edgar finished the game stopping 26 of 29 Medina shots on goal while Bees goalie, Ramon Fischer stopped all 20 Ice Wolves shots.

The game was fast paced and very entertaining.  Unfortunately after the game it was discovered that our locker room was broken into and cash and electronics were stolen from the boys pockets.  A police report was filed with the Strongsville PD.  The report number is 09-40374.  If anyone discovers something missing they didn't realize on Sunday, they should call officer Marcello Marsala at 440-580-3230, ext 7134 to add to the report.

With the loss the Ice Wolves fall to 7-7 overall and 1-2 in NCHSHL action. Medina remains perfect at 5-0 in league action.

The Ice Wolves are back in action next weekend in the Bowling Green JV Christmas tournament with the hosts BG Bobcats, Findlay and Anthony Wayne. Good Luck Ice Wolves.

Fremont, Ohio - The Ice Wolves topped the Wooster Generals 5-0 on Sunday afternoon to even their overall record at 6-6 and their NCHSHL record at 1-1.

The teams played evenly through most of the first period until freshman, Nick Novitski broke the ice with 2:17 left in the period. The sister/brother tandem of Julia and Mark Konieczny assisted on the goal. Freshman Isaac Prunty extended the lead less than one minute later with Paul Wendt and Chris Carpenter assisting and the Ice Wolves lead 2-0 after the first.

The Ice Wolves started to pull away in the second period as Aaron Albright got an unassisted 4 on 4 goal midway through the period. Zach Dawson got a shorthanded breakaway goal with just 32 seconds left to push the lead to 4-0 after two periods. Albright and goalie Luke Edgar assisted on the late goal.

Novitski completed the scoring early in a third period where the Ice Wolves dominated play, out-shooting the Generals by a 17-3 margin. Freshman Cole Bowers assisted on Novitski's goal.

Both teams had outstanding goaltending as Luke Edgar was a perfect 18 saves on 18 Wooster shots and Generals goalie, Brad Herbert stopped 42 of 47 Fremont shots including an amazing 16 of 17 in the third period. Mark Konieczny was a ridiculous 17-3 in faceoffs in the game.

The Ice Wolves have a non-league tilt with Brunswick on Saturday night at North Olmsted followed by a NCHSHL game with Medina on Sunday afternoon at Strongsville.
