Luke Edgar Stops 33 Shots in Senior Day Win
Fremont, Ohio - On the strength of Luke Edgar's 33 save performance, the Ice Wolves topped Lakewood 2-1 on Senior Day. Senior, Aaron Albright did his part to get the big win assisting on both goals.

The Rangers got on the scoreboard early in the game when Dylan Eisnaugle scored less than three minutes into the game. The Ice Wolves continued to battle and with 1:17 left in the first period Alex Swope scored to tie things up. Albright and Paul Wendt assisted.

The score remained 1-1 through the second period and until the 4:20 mark in the third when Chris Carpenter got the game winner from Swope and Albright.

The Rangers had a late power play and pulled their goalie for the 6 on 4 advantage, but the Ice Wolves were able to kill off the remaining time for the big win.

Edgar stopped 33 of 34 shots on goal while Lakewood's David Jech was also strong stopping 22 of Fremont's 24 shots.

With the win, the Ice Wolves improve to 10-16 overall and 2-6-0-1 in the NCHSHL. A win in Saturday's league finale over the Vikings should be good enough for the #8 seed in the league playoffs. The Ice Wolves could even sneak into the playoffs with a tie against the Vikings and some other help.

Ice Wolves Lose OT Heartbreaker

Posted by Dave Pulaski at Jan 9, 2010 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )
Strongsville, Ohio - The Ice Wolves dropped a 4-3 overtime game to the North Royalton Bears on Saturday night. Fremont led 3-1 early in the second period but that was all the scoring there would be for the Ice Wolves who did pick up one point in the standings for the regulation tie.

After a quick power play goal by North Royalton an unusual play developed. With 10:36 left in the first period two North Royalton players took simultaneous minor penalties giving the Ice Wolves a two minute 5 on 3 advantage. Taking a play from the Boston University playbook, after winning the faceoff deep in the Bears end, Luke Edgar was pulled from goal for the 6 on 3 man advantage. The strategy nearly cost the Ice Wolves a goal as one North Royalton clearing attempt slid inches away from the empty net. But the Ice Wolves regrouped and with just 9 seconds left on the penalties, Alex Swope found the back of the net to tie the game at one each. Jordan Lones assisted on the goal.

Early in the second period, Joe Pulaski put the Ice Wolves up with a goal assisted by Swope and Matt Pulaski. Then a few minutes later Swope got his second goal set up nicely by Garrett Binger and Chris Carpenter for the 3-1 lead.

The momentum was stymied when the Bears scored with 7:28 left in the second period to make it a 3-2 game. The score remained that way until North Royalton scored with just under 3 minutes left in the contest.

The overtime winner came on the power play for the Bears. Luke Edgar stopped 27 of 31 North Royalton shots on goal. The Ice Wolves managed 24 shots in the contest.

Fremont, Ohio - The Ice Wolves were outshot 45-15 in the game, but Luke Edgar kept Fremont alive until the last minute when the Riverside Beavers scored the game winner to give the Ice Wolves their second straight heartbreaking loss.

The Ice Wolves would score the games first goal, a short-hander by Chris Carpenter with 9:32 left in the first period. Riverside would knot the score at 1-1 just 13 seconds later, still on the power play. With 37 ticks on the first period clock the Beavers would take the lead. The second period was scoreless and the score remained 2-1 heading into the third period.

With 5:30 left in the contest the Ice Wolves got a power play goal of their own as Carpenter got his second goal of the game. The goal was assisted by Paul Wendt.

It appeared the Ice Wolves may be heading to their second straight overtime until the Beavers got the late game-winner.
