Change in schedule for this weekend

Posted by Jon Morinishi at Jan 21, 2008 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )

Dear Force Parents,

Sorry for the late notice but we are going to change practice for this Saturday 1/26/08. We will be trading Double Trouble's spot at Valencia HS so our practice time will be 3:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Please let us know if you cannot make practice for this week.

We spoke to Jason today in Germany as he was on his way back from training in Dubai and he said we are on for Friday night at 9:00 p.m. for our private workout.

We also will be finalizing our Force finances soon, hopefully we will have enough to cover our tournament fees for SASF in Sacramento and Hollywood Dodgers in Las Vegas.

Let me know if you have any questions,

Mark

Game Review

Posted by Jon Morinishi at Jan 20, 2008 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )

Dear Force Parents,

Our boys played well today, we worked again on both their zone offense (Ono) and man to man offense (Fist), they are starting to get it and at times worked pretty good. We are still going to continue all the options in both offenses and we need to have every player feel comfortable playing different spots.

We still need work on boxing out, help defense, rebounding, bounce passes and timing on our offenses.

Today we finished with a 38-16 victory of SOC and believe it or not it is the same score as week number one 38-16 over SOC as well.

We will let everyone know the practice schedule for the week as well as what we will have scheduled on Friday night.

Let me know if there are any potential conflicts for this Saturday.

Thanks,

Mark

Saturday Practice

Posted by Jon Morinishi at Jan 15, 2008 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )

Dear Force Parents,

We are going to be scheduling our own practice this Saturday 1/19/08 from 2:00-4:00 p.m. at Mariners Christian in Costa Mesa. Our VFW practice schedule came out today and had us at Marina HS in HB fron 5:30-7:00 p.m., we felt it was a little too late for us this weekend as we are having K.B. on Friday night and our SEYO game on Sunday night.

Due to us rescheduling we have worked it out with Mariners so that there will be no fees for this weekend.

We would like everyone to be at practice on Saturday so we can walk through our analysis of this past Sunday's game on offense and on defense. As coaches we have a very difficult situation rotating our 10 players for 5 continous minutes each half, we need to be sure that every player on the court can adjust to different offenses and defenses on a given moment. We were not prepared to adjust after OCO adjusted to us so we will be working on this at practice for the next several weeks. Our job is to teach our players how to think and what to do in any situation, we sometime forget that they are only 10 but are running the same things as high school teams already. We also need to remember that we are practicing only once a week and will be switching to twice a week as soon as the season is over and maybe three times a week so we can prepare for our Sacramento tournament. We will be playing up a grade and need to be ready.

We have heard that the two most popular tournaments up north have heard about us already and if we skip 6th grade next year and play in 7th grade up north we have a chance to play in their two biggest tournaments. They are the San Jose Ninja Tournament and the Sacramento Baron's Tournament in Reno.

Please let us know if you have any questions,

Mark

SASF Tournament

Posted by Jon Morinishi at Jan 14, 2008 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )
Dear Force Parents,
We have officially been accepted to the SASF Tournament in Sacramento in March.  Here is the e-mail from the coordinator of our division.
Hi Mark and Laurie,
I'm going to put your team (VFW Force) in the D Gold division since the D Silver division is weak.  The D Gold division has mostly 6th graders but I think you will do fine in that division.  I hope it is competitive for your team.
Happy New Year.  Official acceptance letters go out at the end of the month but your team is in.  Look forward to seeing you in March!
Take care,
Jan
We also are going to be practicing at Mariners on Saturday, I'm just waiting to coordinate the times with them. It will be in the afternoon sometime between 1:00 and 5:00 but not sure yet.
Let me know if you have any questions,
Mark

Here we go again

Posted by Jon Morinishi at Jan 14, 2008 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )

Dear Force Parents,

At the VFW Board meeting last night we were informed that there was a tournament at Valencia HS this weekend and that all practices were to be moved to another facility. Unfortunately that schedule would not be released until late Thursday. We believe that all VFW teams will be at Marina HS in Huntington Beach but would be sharing courts to allow all teams to practice.

We will be looking for an alternative location for this weekend and we will keep you posted in the next day or two.

Thanks,

Mark
