Final Score Game 9: Indians 13 vs. Angels 2

The Alameda AAA Indians posted an early lead and never looked back as they visited the Angels.

Nick Stevens led off for the Indians against Deirling pitching for the Angels.  Stevens connected for a grounder back to the pitcher and was thrown out at first.  Jackson Tracy followed with a grounder down the third base line for a single.  Micah Rothenbuhler’s grounder into the outfield was good for a double and brought Tracy home for the Indians first run.  Michael Copple’s single to short couldn’t advance Rothenbuhler from second, but both runners advanced on a wild pitch to Isaac Maximov, and the bases were loaded when Maximov walked.  Trevor Greenley flied to shallow right field, scoring Rothenbuhler and Copple and advancing Maximov to third.  Greenley stole second before Derek Snediker was called out on strikes, but the runners were stranded when Wyatt Arens was thrown out at first as the Angels handled his hard grounder to short.

Rothenbuhler came in to pitch for the Indians in the bottom of the first.  Deirling bounced a grounder back to Rothenbuhler, who made the throw to Evan Park at first for the first out.  Chen struck out for two away, and Langfeld was called safe at first on a close throw.  Morgan singled through the gap to center for a single, advancing Langfeld to third.  The Angels were retired scoreless in the first when Cunningham grounded to the mound and was thrown out.

Neither team was able to score in the second inning.  Deirling returned to the mound for the Angels and Park led off for the Indians.  Park struck out, and Billy Hommert followed him with a grounder that was handled by Morgan at first.  Casey Thiering was called out on strikes and the Indians returned to the field. 

Rothenbuhler continued pitching for the Indians, striking out Bailey, and then Jaber of the Angels.  Platt grounded to short, and Maximov connected with Park for the force play at first.  At the end of two the score remained Indians 3, Angels 0.

The Indians were able to add to their lead in the third inning.  The Angels brought in Morgan to pitch and Liam Bergstrom led off for the Indians, striking out swinging.  Stevens tripled on a fly to right center and the Indians quickly had a man in scoring position.  Tracy struck out swinging and Rothenbuhler walked and the Indians had two men on with two away.  Rothenbuhler stole second with Copple at the plate, and then scored with Stevens on Copple’s line drive to center.  Maximov singled on a fly to shallow left, scoring Copple from second.  Greenley struck out swinging, stranding Maximov, and the top of the third ended with Indians up by six.

Rothenbuhler returned to the mound to close out the third inning against the Angels Kaake.  Kaake was held to a single on his fly to left field by a good cut-off throw by Stevens.  Allen struck out, but Kaake stole second during his at bat.  Deirling hit a grounder back to the mound  and was thrown out at first, advancing Kaake to third, where he was stranded when Chen struck out to end the inning.

The fourth inning ended with the score unchanged.  Snediker hit a line drive for a triple off of Morgan’s pitch to start off the Indians offense.  Arens singled when his pop fly was dropped, and then stole second with Park at the plate.  Park struck out swinging and Hommert was called out on strikes.  Thiering walked to load the bases, but all the runners were stranded when Bergstrom struck out swinging.

Copple took over the pitching duties for the Indians in the bottom of the fourth.  Langfeld led off with a grounder to second and was thrown out at first.  Morgan walked, but was thrown out at second on the force play when Cunningham hit a grounder to Tracy .  Bailey popped up and Copple made the catch to retire the Angels with one stranded and no runs scored, Indians ahead by a score of six to none.

The Indians nearly doubled their run total in the fifth inning.  Platt came in to pitch for the Angels and the Indians were at the top of the order with Stevens leading off.  Stevens single turned into a double when the force throw to first was missed.  Tracy batted Stevens in with a double line drive to center, and then scored when Rothenbuhler stretched a triple into a home run.  Copple walked, but was thrown out stealing second with Maximov at the plate.  Platt walked Maximov  and Greenley’s line drive down the first base brought him home and was good for a double.  Snediker was called out on strikes, and then Greenley advanced to third when Arens singled to shallow left, giving the Indians runners on first and third.  Arens stole second and the bases were loaded when Park passed on full count pitch to gain a base on balls.  Another full count pitch to Hommert missed the strike zone and Greenley scored as Hommert walked.  Bergstrom struck out swinging, stranding the runners and halting the Indians scoring at five runs, for a game total of eleven.

The Angels went three up and three down in the bottom of the fifth.  Jaber hit a grounder off of Copple’s pitch, but the throw to first was off the mark and he was thrown out attempting to take advantage of the error by stretching the play to third.  Platt grounded back to Copple and was thrown out at first.  Kaake struck out and at the end of five the score was Indians eleven, Angels none.

Both teams scored in the sixth inning.  The Indians began again at the top of the order against Platt pitching for the Angels.  Stevens singled on a fly to shallow right, and Tracy followed him, striking out swinging.  Rothenbuhler’s hard grounder to right field scored Stevens and was good for a double.  Copple hit a hard to handle grounder single that advanced Rothenbuhler to third and then stole second with Maximov batting.  Maximov grounded to second, scoring Rothenbuhler, but was thrown out at first.  Greenley followed with another grounder to second and was also thrown out at first, ending the Indians scoring at thirteen runs.
