TRAINING RULES
1. Athletes are expected to be suited up and ready for practice by 3:30 pm. Warm-up run and Team stretching will be led by Team Captains in your event group. All commands given by Team Captains are the law.
2. Roll will be taken by Coach Gordon each day. You must check in with the Head Coach before practice.
3. Commitment. The only legitimate excuse to miss practice is absence from school. Any other reason must be approved in advance by Head Coach Jon Gordon. No one will be cut from the Team until May 2015 (IHSA Sectional Roster) provided they work hard, and miss no more than 9 unexcused practices from January 19, 2015 through May 31, 2015. Athletes in basketball, wrestling, and swimming may join the Team when their respective season reaches a conclusion. Students in the musical, girls soccer, girls softball, boys volleyball, boys and girls water polo, and boys and girls lacrosse will not be permitted to join the TEAM. Students who have Team manager obligations to another sport will not be permitted to join the Track TEAM. Athletes that have an UNEXCUSED absence from a practice will NOT be allowed to complete in any track meets that week. Any athlete that is suspended from school for any reason is dismissed from the Team. Any other special circumstances need to be approved by the coaching staff in advance. Thanks.
4. Curfew. All athletes must be at home by 10 pm, the night before all Track meets. Rest is essential.
5. Weight room. A member of the coaching staff must be present before an Athlete may enter the weight room. Athletes must use a spotter for Bench Press or Squats. A Coach or Captain must be present for all attempts at weight room records.
6. Throwers. A member of the coaching staff or Team Captain must be present anytime a Discus or Shot Put is used. The Discus and Shot Put were originally used by the Greeks as weapons of war, and an individual will get seriously hurt if safety precautions are not followed.
7. Uniforms, Jewelry, Cameras, and electronic devices. IHSA Track and Field Rules require all athletes to wear a school issued uniform. In Relays, all four athletes must match. Jewelry, including plastic bands, watches, and bracelets are ok. Racing with a baseball cap on is also an automatic disqualification. However, winter hats are legal (outdoors). Field Event athletes are automatically disqualified if they look at pictures (i.e. camera phones, digital cameras, Video) during the meet. Athletes with Cell phones are also automatically disqualified if the phone is used during the meet. All uniforms must be returned at the conclusion of the season, to prevent a $100.00 fee to your student account, and a letter sent home. Thanks.
8. Eligibility. You must be academically eligible for any sport. Eligibility is checked prior to every meet. If you have an "F" at anytime, you will be dismissed from the squad until you bring your grades up. The reason for this is based on the fact that if you are ineligible, you cannot compete and we cannot depend on you. In the Fall 2014, the Cross Country Team GPA was higher than the general student body. We need to work hard to achieve that same status during Track season.
9. A second "Roll Call" will be taken at the end of practice in the weight room. You must check out with a member of the coaching staff before you leave each day. Thanks.
