 On Friday, May 1, 2015, the Northside Varsity Men traveled to Glenbrook North High School in Northbrook, Illinois for the 53rd Annual Spartan Relays.

 The meet featured Deerfield, New Trier, Glenbrook South, Northside College Prep, Highland Park, Stevenson, Lake Zurich, Loyola Academy, Lake Forest, Waukegan, and host Glenbrook North.

 The meet featured the High Jump Relay, Long Jump Relay, Pole Vault Relay, Triple Jump Relay, Shot Put Relay, Discus Relay, High Hurdle Shuttle Relay, 4x800m Relay, 4x100m Relay, Distance Medley Relay, Middle Distance Medley Relay (200m-200m-400m-800m), Sprint Medley Relay, 4x1 Mile Relay, 4x200m Relay, Low Hurdle Shuttle Relay, Throwers 4x100m Relay, and the 4x400m Relay.

 It is the best relay meet in Illinois, and the hospitality and sportsmanship was second to none.

 Glenbrook North Head Coach Scott Laskey provided meals for the entire coaching staffs of all eleven visiting Teams. Opposing athletes were giving each other high fives after every jump at the high jump pit or throw at the Discus cage. The stands were filled to stadium capacity.

 Northside Head Coach Jon Gordon provided Subway Fresh Fit Platters to all athletes on the Team, because of a 12:30 pm departure on Friday for Spartan Relays. 

  The Spartan Relays has over fifty years history of future Olympians, State Champions, and All State Athletes coming together to compete in the Ultimate Relay meet. All events are Relays, including Field Events and Hurdles. 

 A Medal or a Ribbon from Spartan Relays is priceless. The Top 3 Teams in each event are awarded a Medal, and places fourth through six are awarded a Ribbon.

The Northside 4x1600m Relay School record was 18:55.40, and it has lasted since 2009. It was held by four Alumni legends that went on to compete in college, Cuitlahuac Pineda Youniss (Washington University), Cooper Eben (Duke), Jon Kittaka (Carleton), and Wesley Laytham (Davidson).

 Northside Senior Malcolm Grba, Junior Danny Rosen, Sophomore Kyle Friedler, and Sophomore Alex Ortiz BROKE THE SCHOOL RECORD by 34 seconds with an impressive 4x1600m Relay time of 18:21.00! Malcolm Grba, Danny Rosen, Kyle Friedler, and Alex Ortiz were awarded MEDALS at Spartan Relays for their outstanding performance. Malcolm Grba, Danny Rosen, Kyle Friedler, and Alex Ortiz will be honored again in practice on Monday and will receive Watermelons for breaking the school record! Malcolm Grba, Danny Rosen, Kyle Friedler, and Alex Ortiz will also receive plaques for breaking the school record at the June 5, 2015 Northside Track & Field Banquet at the East Bank Club.

 Northside Captain Malcolm Grba ran the first leg of the 4x1600m Relay.

 Northside Senior Malcolm Grba ran the first 400m in 64 seconds, and then ran the next 400m in 69 seconds for an 800m split of 2:13. Malcolm Grba then ran the next 400m in an EVEN split of 69 seconds for a 1200m split of 3:22. Captain Malcolm Grba then ran the final 400m in a NEGATIVE split of 63 seconds for a PERSONAL BEST 1600m time of 4:25.81 on the first leg of the 4x1600m Relay!

 From Sophomore Year (4:44.68) to Junior Year (4:36.10), Malcolm Grba dropped 8 seconds in the 1600m run. From Junior Year (4:36.10) to Senior Year (4:25.81), Malcolm Grba has dropped 11 seconds in the 1600m run!

Northside Captain Danny Rosen ran the second leg of the 4x1600m Relay.

Northside Junior Danny Rosen ran the first 400m in 66 seconds, and then ran the next 400m in 70 seconds for an 800m split of 2:16. Danny Rosen then ran the next 400m in a NEGATIVE split of 68 seconds for a 1200m split of 3:24. Captain Danny Rosen then ran the final 400m in another NEGATIVE split of 62 seconds for a season best 1600m time of 4:26.54 on the second leg of the 4x1600m Relay!

Northside Sophomore Kyle Friedler had a BIG week. Friedler won the Varsity 3200m on Tuesday, broke a school record on Friday, and qualified for the CPS Sophomore Championships in the 3200m and 1600m on Saturday.

Northside Sophomore phenom Kyle Friedler ran the third leg of the 4x1600m Relay.

Northside Sophomore Kyle Friedler ran the first 400m in 66 seconds, and then ran the next 400m in 72 seconds for an 800m split of 2:18. Kyle Friedler then ran the next 400m in an EVEN split of 72 seconds for a 1200m split of 3:30. Kyle Friedler then ran the final 400m in another EVEN split of 72 seconds for a PERSONAL BEST 1600m time of 4:42.17 on the third leg of the 4x1600m Relay! Kyle Friedler dropped 4 seconds off his best 1600m time (4:46.40) with a personal best time of 4:42.17.

From Freshman Year (5:17.53) to Sophomore Year (4:42.17), Kyle Friedler has dropped 35 seconds in the 1600m run!
