The athletes listed above have earned a Varsity letter by scoring a Varsity point in a Track meet.

On Sunday, February 7, 2016, the Northside Varsity Track & Field TEAM traveled to South Michigan Avenue in Chicago, Illinois for the De La Salle Invitational.

The opening of the Indoor Track & Field season is a special day. A Track & Field meet features 18 events, with non-stop action on the Track, and events being run simutaneously in the Field, including Shot Put, Long Jump, and High Jump. The first recorded Track & Field meet dates back to the Anicent Olymic Games, in 776 B.C. in Olympia, Greece.

A statue of the former Mayor Daley, a De La Salle Alumni, greets spectators and athletes as they enter the stadium.

The Indoor Stadium was filled to capacity for the first Track meet of the 2016 season. Spectators included 2008 Olympian Brian Dzingai, who placed 4th in the 200m dash at the Beijing Olympics.

The De La Salle Invitational featured Johnson College Prep, Collins Academy, Leo, Chicago Northside College Prep, DRW Trading, University of Chicago Lab School, St. Viator, North Lawndale, and host De La Salle.

A special thanks to De La Salle Head Coach Robell McMiller and staff for hosting an outstanding meet. Robell McMiller held a closed door coaches meeting prior to the meet, and told inspirational stories about the impact of former University of Chicago Coach Ted Haydon. McMiller provided a fun atmosphere for the season opener, and a great experience for every athlete.

Northside would also like to thank University of Indianapolois Track Coach Giles Davis for providing outstanding FAT timing for the De La Salle Invitational.

Individual events and Relays were scored 10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1.

MEDALS were awarded to the TOP 3 individuals and relays.

Northside College Prep keeps track of every point scored throughout the season. If an athlete scores a Varsity point in a Track meet, the athlete is awarded a Varsity letter. Every point scored is vital to the success of the TEAM. Several Championship meets have been determined by a single point.

Leo High School won the De La Salle Invitational with 95 points. Congratulation to Hall of Fame Coach Edward Adams and the Leo Lions.

Chicago Northside finished in SECOND place with 87.5 points, and posted Victories over: 3. De La Salle (85 points), 4. University of Chicago Lab School (42.50 points), 5. DRD Trading (36.50 points), 6. Collins Academy (35 points), 7. St. Viator (33 points), 8. North Lawndale (28 points), and 9. Johnson College Prep (15 points).

The Northside Varsity Men have a record of 7-1 to start the 2016 Indoor Track season!
