  On Wednesday, February 17, 2016, the Northside College Prep Varsity Mens and Sophomore-Freshman Boys Track Team traveled to Glenbrook North High School in Northbrook, Illinois for the Spartan Indoor Classic.

 The Spartan Indoor Classic featured Central Suburban league powers, Maine West, Highland Park, and host Glenbrook North.   

 The meet was completed very efficiently, and had non-stop action on the Track, which put the crowd on their feet at all times, and created a fun atmosphere for all participating Teams. A special thanks to Glenbrook North Head Coach Scott Lasky, Assistant Coaches Steve Gross (36th year of coaching), Vincent, Griffin, Kurtis, and Brown for hosting an outstanding meet. 

  It was also a very friendly atmosphere as several reunions took place throughout the meet. Northside Head Coach Jon Gordon attended Glenbrook North from 1986-1990, and is a member of their athletic college wall of fame. 

 The meet was scored only on the Varsity level, in an effort to provide non-stop action on the track. The following point scale was used for individual events: 6-4-3-2-1, and 6-4-2 was used for scoring relays.

 In the Pole Vault, Glenbrook North Junior Nick Duelfer won it with a vault of 11'0. Glenbrook North Senior Graham Cohen finished in second place with a vault of 10'0. Glenbrook North's Aaron Gros finished in third place with a vault of 9'0. Highland Park's Ben Kuskh finished in fourth place with a vault of 8'6. Highland Park's Ben Zenell finished in fifth place to complete the scoring with a vault of 8'0. Northside Junior Brendan Powers did not show up to the meet. Vital points were lost in the Pole Vault.

 In the Shot Put, Maine West's Nick B. won it with a throw of 44'0.25". A Maine West athlete finished in second place with a throw of 43'4.75". Maine West's James S. finished in third place with a throw of 42'9.25". Glenbrook North Senior Tyler Dea finished in fourth place with a throw of 42'5". Northside Junior Jacob Cosby threw the Shot put a personal best 42'1.5" to finish in fifth place to complete the scoring. Jacob Cosby is closing in on the Northside School Record for Shot Put. The Record is held by Alumni legend Eric Nelson (43'5, 2008 CPS Indoor Championships).

 In the High Jump, Glenbrook North Senior Constantine Beniaris won it with a leap of 6'2. Jacob Cosby had a BIG day in the High Jump competition. Northside Junior Jacob Cosby improved from a season best of 5'2 by 0'6" with a PERSONAL BEST jump of 5'8 to finish in SECOND place! Glenbrook North Sophomore Marek Wasilczuk finished in third place with a jump of 5'6. Highland Park's Casey finished in fourth place with a jump of 5'2. Northside Sophomore Asher Rappaport finished in fifth place to complete the scoring with a jump of 4'10.

 In the Long Jump, 2015 IHSA State Qualifier, Glenbrook North Senior Michael Papper won it with an impressive jump of 22'1.5. Glenbrook North Senior Mason Rosenberg finished in second place with an outstanding jump of 19'2.75. Glenbrook North Sophomore Michael Siboni finished in third place with a jump of 18'5. A Highland Park athlete finished in fourth place with a jump of 17'5.5. Northside Junior Brian McManus finished in fifth place to complete the scoring with a PERSONAL BEST jump of 17'3.5. Northside Junior Jack Nolan had a leap of 15'8. Northside Junior Jay Borgwardt had three outstanding attempts, but faulted on all three attempts. Northside Junior Arjuna Lemke did not show up to the Long Jump Pit.

 In the Triple Jump, Glenbrook North Senior John Clark won it with a jump of 39'8.25. Glenbrook North Junior Matt Pawlowski finished in second place with a jump of 37'8.25. Northside Senior Keith Jones finished in third place with a jump of 35'5. Northside Senior Garret Barch finished in fourth place with a jump of 35'3. Northside Junior Brandon Banas finished in fifth place to complete the scoring with a jump of 34'5. Northside Junior Jack Nolan had an outstanding jump of 31'9.

After the FIELD EVENTS, Team scores were: Glenbrook North 47, Maine West 13, Chicago Northside 13, and Highland Park 7. Chicago Northside would need to come from behind in this meet.

This season, Northside Captain Kyle Friedler won the 1600m run at the De La Salle Invitational, and won the 3200m run at the Evanston Indoor Classic. Kyle Friedler would race his first 800m run of the season at the Spartan Indoor Classic.

 In the 800m run, Glenbrook North Sophomore Ari Bosse won it with an official time of 2:07.00. Glenbrook North Sophomore Michael Ocasek finished in second place with an official time of 2:08.00. Northside Junior Kyle Friedler ran 160m splits of 24, 25, 26, 27, and then ran the final 160m in an EVEN split of 27 seconds to finish in third place with a PERSONAL BEST time of 2:09.30. Highland Park athletes finished in fourth and fifth respectively, to complete the scoring. Northside Junior Arjuna Lemke ran 160m splits of 26, 29, 30, 33, and then ran the final 160m in a NEGATIVE split of 32 seconds for an official time of 2:30.10. Northside Junior Jack Webster ran 160m splits of 29, 29, 31, 31, and then ran an EVEN split of 31 seconds for an official time of 2:32.10.

 In the Varsity 4x160m Relay, Highland Park held off Northside for the win. Northside came withn .06 of a second of the school record (1:20.90). Northside finished in second place with an official time of 1:20.96. Northside Sophomore Nicholas Brown ran an impressive 160m split of 20.08, and then made a nice exchange to Garret Barch. Northside Junior Garret Barch ran an outstanding 160m split of 19.61, and then made a great exchange to Justin Washington. Northside Junior Justin Washington ran an outstanding 160m split of 19.27, and then made a nice exchange to Carel Jones. Northside Sophomore Carel Jones ran an impressive 160m split of 21.74 to anchor Northside to SECOND place with an official time of 1:20.96.

 In the Sophomore 4x160m Relay, Highland Park won it. Northside finished in second place with an official time of 1:27.19. Northside Freshman Norberto Nieves ran an outstanding 22.06 160m split on the first leg of the relay. Northside Sophomore phenom Asher Rappaport ran an impressive 21.26 160m split on the second leg of the relay. Northside Sophomore Mason Sotomayor ran an outstadning 22.95 160m split on the third leg of the relay. Northside Freshman Osazee Osaghae ran an impressive 20.80 160m split to anchor Northside to SECOND place with an official time of 1:27.19.

 In the 400m Dash, Northside lost vital points in this event with the scratches of Senior Philip Wdowiak and Senior Steven Kataba. Northside was able to walk away with 6 points in the 400m dash because of an outstanding performance by Junior Brandon Banas.

 Brandon Banas won the 400m dash with an official time of 59.14. Highland Park scored mega points by finishing in second (4 points), third (3 points), fourth (2 points), and fifth (1 point) in the 400m dash for a total of 10 points.

 In the 55m Low Hurdles, Glenbrook North Senior Constantine Beniaris won it with an official time of 7.66. A Highland Park athlete finished in second place. Northside Senior Garret Barch finished in third place with an official time of 8.38. Glenbrook North Sophomore Aaron Gros finished in fourth place with an official time of 8.58. Northside Senior Justin Washington finished in fifth place to complete the scoring with an official time of 8.70. Glenbrook North Sophomore Michael Ocasek ran an official time of 8.82. Northside Junior Jay Borgwardt hurdled a personal best time of 9.37. Northside Sophomore Asher Rappaport hurdled an outstanding time of 9.37. Northside Junior Jack Nolan hurdled an official time of 9.88. Northside Junior Chrition Guerrero hurdled an outstanding time of 10.00. Northside Freshman Jayson Coy hurdled an official time of 14.08.

 After the 55m Low Hurdles, TEAM scores were: 1. Glenbrook North (82 points), 2. Chicago Northside (44 points), 3. Highland Park (37 points), and 4. Maine West (13 points).

 In the 1600m run, Northside Senior Danny Rosen ran the first 800m in 2:19, and then ran the final 800m in 2:22 to WIN it with an outstanding time of 4:41.60. Highland Park athletes finished in second place through fifth place to complete the scoring. Northside Junior Alex Ortiz ran the first 800m in 2:26, and then ran the final 800m in 2:30 for an outstanding race to finish in seventh place overall with an outstanding time of 4:56.20. Glenbrook North Sophomore Michael Lee ran a 4:58.00. Northside Junior Brian McManus ran the first 800m in 2:30, and then ran the final 800m in 2:37 for an official time of 5:07.60. Northside Sophomore Kyle Lowenthal ran an official time of 5:38.00. Northside Freshman Kristopher Ushijima ran an official time of 5:41.00. Northside Freshman John Kim ran an official time of 5:42.00. Northside Freshman Daniel Panganiban ran a personal best time of 6:20.00. Northside Sophomore Justin Bologna ran an official time of 6:43.00.

 In the 200m Dash, Glenbrook North Senior Mason Rosenberg won it with an official time of 23.63. Glenbrook North Sophomore Metellus finished in second place with an official time of 24.25. Northside Senior Keith Jones finished second in his heat, and in THIRD place overall with an official time of 24.59. A Highland Park athlete finished in fourth place with an official time of 25.38. A Highland Park athlete finished in fifth place to complete the scoring with an official time of 25.69. Northside Sophomore Nicholas Brown ran an outstanding time of 26.28. Northside Freshman Osazee Osaghae ran a personal best time of 26.65. Northside Junior Brandon Banas ran an official time of 26.81. Northside Sophomore Carel Jones ran an outstanding time of 26.84. Northside Freshman Norberto Nieves ran an official time of 27.92. Northside Sophomore Mason Sotomayor ran an official time of 28.84.

 In the 4x160m Thrower's Relay, Glenbrook North came from behind to win it. Northside finished in second place with an official time of 1:34.71. Northside Junior Jacob Cosby ran a 160m split of 22.74 on the first leg of the relay. Northside Junior Christion Guerrero ran a 160m split of 21.53 on the second leg of the relay. Northside Junior Vladimir Andrade ran a 160m split of 23.77 on the third leg of the relay. Northside Junior Matthew Kosova anchored Northside to SECOND place with a personal best 160m split of 26.67 for an official time of 1:34.71.

 In the 4x400m Relay, Northside Junior Jay Borgwardt ran a 58.93 400m split on the first leg of the relay, and made a nice exchange to Sergio Soto. Junior Sergio Soto ran a 61.18 400m split on the second leg of the relay, and made a good exchange to Jacob Cosby. Junior Jacob Cosby ran a 62.59 400m split on the third leg of the relay, and made an exchange to Danny Rosen. Captain Danny Rosen passed Highland Park and anchored Northside to Victory with an impressive 55.41 400m split for an official time of 3:58.11.

 The FINAL TEAM SCORES were: 1. Glenbrook North (100 points), 2. Chicago Northside (63 points), 3. Highland Park (54 points), and 4. Maine West (13 points).

 The Northside Varsity Men had a record of 2-1 on the day, and now have a season record of 11-5.
