Shot Put Trials

The entire Northside College Prep Track and Field Team will have Shot Put Trials on Saturday, January 21, 2017 from 7:30 am - 10:30 am at North Park University Indoor Track & Field Stadium.

 The Shot Put Trials are MANDATORY. All Athletes must take THREE throws to be on the Team, regardless of event group. Uniforms will NOT be issued to any athletes that miss the Shot Put Trials for any reason. Thanks.  

 The Trials will help us discover new throwers and determine our initial Varsity, Junior Varsity, Sophomore, and Freshman Throwers for the first meet.

 The King and Queen of the Shot Put competition gives Northside athletes an appreciation for each others events, and makes the TEAM stronger. 

 Athletes will meet at the MAIN ENTRANCE of Northside College Prep at 7:30 am before going to the Indoor Stadium at North Park University. Thanks.

3)   In addition to a Shot Put Head Official, there will be several landing judges.

 Gatorade and water will be provided for all Athletes. ENGRAVED MEDALS will be AWARDED to the TOP 3 Seniors, Juniors, Sophomores, and Freshman Athletes that throw the Shot Put the furtherest distance.

 On Tuesday, June 7, 2016, Northside Head Track & Field Coach Jon Gordon received a fantastic email from the Northside administration informing him that the winner of the 2016 Senior Male Athlete of the Year Award was Danny Rosen, and that the winner of the 2016 Patrick O'Connor Leadership Award was Philip Wdowiak.

 Rosen and Wdowiak were honored at Navy Pier at the Senior Awards luncheon on Wednesday, June 8, 2016 on the cruise ship, the Mystic Blue of Chicago.

 There are 29 sports at Northside College Prep. The Senior Male Athlete award is given annually at Graduation to the best Athlete in the Senior Class. Head Coaches of all 29 Northside sports vote to determine the winner of the Senior Male Athlete Award. It is one of the highest honors an athlete can receive at graduation.

 For only the sixth time in Northside history (Eric Nelson, Cooper Eben, Wesley Laytham, Patrick Brennan, Malcolm Grba), a member of the Northside Track & Field Team won the award, Senior Captain Danny Rosen.

 The Patrick O'Connor Leadership Award is awarded to the best athlete in academics, athletics, and leadership. Head Coaches of all 29 Northside sports vote to determine the winner of the Patrick O'Connor Leadership Award. It is also one of the highest honors an athlete can receive at graduation.

 For only the third time in Northside history (Dan Kittaka, Patrick O'Connor), a member of the Northside Track & Field Team won the award, Senior Captain Philip Wdowiak.

 Northside Head Coach Jon Gordon had the honor of presenting both athletes with their respective awards at the Senior luncheon on the cruise ship, the Mystic Blue of Chicago.

 On Wednesday, June 1, 2016, the Northside Track & Field Team was honored at the East Bank Club in Chicago, Illinois. A very special banquet took place in honor of the greatest Track & Field Team in Northside history!!! 

 The Northside Track & Field awards banquet is one of the most meaningful events of the school year. It represents the official acknowledgement of the athletes accomplishments before the entire Team, administration, parents, and guests.  

 Northside hosted the most spectacular Track & Field banquet in the country! It ranks right up there with the Hesiman Trophy Presentation at the New York Athletic Club.

 The 2016 Northside Track season was one of the most successful seasons in the history of Northside College Prep. 23 athletes earned Watermelons and a plaque for breaking a school record in an individual event and/or relay.

 The Varsity Men won the IHSA Sectional TEAM title! The Northside Varsity Men won the IHSA Sectional Title with 152 points! A banner is being placed on the GYM wall to honor the TEAM.

 The most impressive number of the year, was a record 19 athletes qualified for IHSA State Championships in an individual event and/or relay! It was the most STATE Qualifers by any school in the City of Chicago!

 Northside also earned ALL STATE honors in the 300m Hurdles and the 1600m run. The experience at the state meet was priceless. It was the greatest two days in the history of Northside.

 Northside also had an outstanding Indoor Track Season. The Varsity Men won the Group A division at the Indoor City Championships for the third consecutive year!!!

 Northside also had Illinois Prep Top Times Indoor qualifiers in the 200m Dash, 800m run, 1600m run, and 3200m run! Northside Senior Danny Rosen WON the Illinois Prep Top Times Indoor Title in the 800m run! Northside Senior Keith Jones earned a MEDAL in the 200m dash and Junior Kyle Frielder earned a MEDAL in the 3200m run!

 Northside athletes, coaches, parents, and distinguished guests started the evening with an incredible Italian Buffet Dinner. Everyone took several trips through the buffet line, it was one of the most amazing meals the Team and coaching staff ever had in their entire lives.

 The Team Dinner, included Mushroom Tortellini in white wine, herbs, and cheese, Chicken Vesuio with potatoes and peas, Pan-Seared Salmon in tomato-fennel sauce, and Cheese Stuffed aracini with marinara on the side. Antipasto, included Romaine Hearts with caesar dressing, Prosciutto with melon, Vegetable Antipasto Salad, Mushroom and Spinach Salad. The Italian Buffet Dinner also included Flatbread, Grissini, Filone, and Ciabatta with dipping oil and parmesan. Desserts included, Tiramisu with espresso sauce, Fresh Fruit, and Cannolis.

Danny Rosen and Garret Barch named Varsity MVP

 In 2016, Northside Senior DANNY ROSEN earned ALL STATE honors in the 1600m run, Won the Indoor State Title (Illinois Prep Top Times) in the 800m run, and scored over a 100 Varsity points!!

 Danny Rosen WON the 400m at the Eric Nelson Classic.

 Danny Rosen WON the 800m run at the Evanston Indoor Classic, Illinois Prep Top Times (Indoor State), and the Concordia Open - 1:56.88 800m run

 Danny Rosen WON the 1600m run at Spartan Indoor Classic, CPS Division A Indoor Championships, Glenbrook North Invitational, and the IHSA Sectional Championships. Rosen also had the biggest time drop in the history of the Illinois High School Athletic Association in the 1600m run from IHSA Sectional Championships to the IHSA State Track & Field Championships!

 Danny Rosen WON the 3200m run at the Mike Vandeever Invitational.

 Danny Rosen also anchored the Northside 4x400m Relay to Victory at the Spartan Indoor Classic.  

 Danny Rosen also anchored the Northside 4x800m Relay to the IHSA Sectional Title!!

 Senior Danny Rosen also helped Northside break the SCHOOL RECORD in the Distance Medley Relay (10:50.93) with an impressive 3:15.84 1200m split. Rosen also holds school records in the 4x800m Relay, 800m, 1000m Steeplechase, 1600m, 4x1600m, and Three Miles (Cross Country).

 In Cross Country, Senior Danny Rosen WON the Yorkville Invitational, St.Patrick Invitational, and Leyden Eagle Invitational and qualified for the IHSA State Championships.  

 From Freshman Year (2:07.51) to Senior Year (1:56.88), Danny Rosen has dropped 10.63 seconds in the 800m run. 

 From Freshman Year (5:09.7) to Senior Year (4:22.96), Danny Rosen has dropped 46.74 seconds in the 1600m run. 

 From Freshman Year (11:17.00) to Senior Year (9:39.00), Danny Rosen has dropped 1 minute and 38 seconds in the 3200m run.

 From Freshman Year (18:02) to Senior Year (14:43), Danny Rosen has dropped 3 minutes and 19 seconds in the Cross County Three miles run.

 Danny Rosen will compete in NCAA Track & Field for Pomona College in 2017!

 In 2016, Northside Senior GARRET BARCH led the TEAM in scoring, WON the Outdoor City Title in the 300m Hurdles, and broke the School Record in the 110m Hurdles (15.05) at the IHSA State Track & Field Championships!

 Garret Barch WON the 50 Yard Hurdles at the Bison Indoor Classic.

 Garret Barch WON the Triple Jump at the Bison Indoor Classic.

 Garret Barch WON the 110m Hurdles at Eric Nelson Classic, Mike Vandeever Invitational, and the IHSA Sectional Championships.

 Garret Barch WON the 300m Hurdles at Lake Forest High School, and the Chicago Public League Championships.

 Garret Barch also helped Northside WIN the 4x200m Relay at the Glenbrook North Invitational and the IHSA Sectional Championships.

 Garret Barch also helped Northside WIN the 4x400m Relay at the IHSA Sectional Championships.

 Senior Garret Barch holds FOUR School Records, including the 110m Hurdles, 4x200m Relay, Low Hurdle Shuttle Relay, and the High Hurdle Shuttle Relay.

 From Freshman Year (19.62) to Senior Year (15.05), Garret Barch has dropped 4.57 seconds in the 110m Hurdles!

 Garret Barch didn't compete in the 300m Hurdles until his Senior year. He had health issues when opportunies developed and was also waiting in the wings behind All City Hurdlers and Alumni legends Porter Abbey, Lucien Fitzpatrick and Matt Osborne. In 2016, Garret Barch became the first Northside hurdler to WIN the Varsity City Title in the 300m Hurdles!

 Garret Barch also has impressive personal bests in the Long Jump (18'7), Triple Jump (37'8), 400m (52.29) and the 300m Hurdles (40.08)!

 Garret Barch qualified for the 2016 IHSA State Championships in the 110m Hurdles, 4x200m Relay, 300m Hurdles, and the 4x400m Relay!!

 The 2016 MVPs of the Northside Track Field Team are Garret Barch and Danny Rosen!
