The 400m Dash at the Eric Nelson Classic is named after school record holder, Illinois Top Times Champion, IHSA State Qualifier, BIG EAST Champion, and Alumni legend Mac Melto.

 In the Mac Melto 400m dash at the Eric Nelson Classic, University High Senior Charles Marks won it with an official time of 51.29. University High Freshman Ismael Rua Figueroa finished in second place with an official time of 52.40. Von Steuben Senior Burkuru Anaclet finished in third place with an official time of 54.07. University High Senior Chris Kucera finished in fourth place with an official time of 56.63. University High Junior James Woodruff finished in fifth place with an official time of 57.08. Lincoln Park Sophomore Michael Robinson finished in sixth place to complete the scoring with an official time of 57.08.

 Northside Junior Gabe Piechnik ran a personal best time of 58.75. Northside Freshman Jeronimo Najarro dropped 3.57 seconds (66.02) with a personal best time of 62.45. Northside Junior Mason Sotomayor dropped 2.77 seconds (66.01) with a personal best time of 63.24. Northside Junior Osama Hassen dropped 10.21 seconds (75.77) for a personal best time of 65.56.

The 300m Hurdles at the Eric Nelson Classic is named after School record holder, IHSA State Qualifier, and Alumni legend Justin Washington.

 In the Justin Washington 300m Hurdles at the Eric Nelson Classic, Northside Senior Jay Borgwardt WON it with a personal best time of 46.41. Jay Borgwardt dropped 1.67 seconds (48.08) in the 300m Hurdles! Jay Borgwardt will be awarded a PLAQUE for winning the 300m hurdles! University High Senior Tom Sawada finished in second place with an official time of 46.87. Northside Junior Elias Decker dropped 5.63 seconds (52.90) to finish in THIRD place with a PERSONAL BEST time of 47.27. Elias Decker will be awarded a MEDAL for finishing in third place in the 300m Hurdles. Steinmetz Junior Frederick Crittendon finished in fourth place with an official time of 47.40.

 In the 300m Hurdles, Northside Junior Asher Rappaport finished in fifth place with an outstanding time of 49.45. Northside Senior Jack Nolan finished in sixth place to complete the scoring with a personal best time of 50.07. Northside Freshman Josh Burns finished in seventh place with a personal best time of 52.31. Northside Junior Josh Aladesuru finished in eighth place with a personal best time of 58.59.

 The 1600m run at the Eric Nelson Classic is named after School Record Holder, IHSA State Qualifier, and Alumni legend Danny Rosen. The 2017 field for the Danny Rosen 1600m at the Eric Nelson Classic featured 32 runners from 11 high schools.

 Prior to April 1, 2017, the fastest Northside 1600m times in Northside history included: Danny Rosen (4:22.96), Malcolm Grba (4:25.81), Cuitlahuac Pineda Youniss (4:34.49), Ezra Edgerton (4:34.88), Charlie Mesimore (4:35.05), Kyle Friedler (4:35.13), Patrick Brennan (4:35.48), Joseph Terdik (4:37.20), and John Krumsee (4:37.42).

 In the Danny Rosen 1600m at the Eric Nelson Classic, Northside Senior Alex Ortiz had a legendary performance for the ages. Ortiz came into the meet with an Indoor PR of 4:42.40 (2017), and an Outdoor PR of 4:37.80 (2016). Alex Ortiz also ran a 2:01.56 800m at the 2016 IHSA State Track & Field championships. Alex Ortiz also repped with 220 lbs in the Deadlift in the Northside Weight room the week prior to the Eric Nelson Classic. Ortiz was ready for the performance of his life.

 Northside Captain Alex Ortiz ran the first 400m in 62 seconds, and then ran the next 400m in 68 seconds (2:10), and was on pace for the school record, and the Class 3A IHSA State qualifying time in the 1600m (4:20.94). Alex Ortiz was also 200m ahead of the entire field. It was awesome.

 Northside Senior Alex Ortiz then ran the third 400m in 70 seconds (3:20 1200m), and then ran the final 400m in an EVEN split of 70 seconds to WIN the 1600m run with a PERSONAL BEST time of 4:30.35. It was the third fastest 1600m run time in the history of Northside College Prep! Alex Ortiz dropped 12.05 seconds from his 2017 season best time (4:42.40) for a PERSONAL BEST time of 4:30.35.

 Alex Ortiz will receive a PLAQUE for winning the Danny Rosen 1600m run at the Eric Nelson Classic.

 Alex Ortiz will be racing the 3200m at the Niles West Paul Gans Invitational on April 8, 2017. The Northside coaching staff projects that he will break the 10 minutes barrier, and that it will help give him the strength to run the automatic state qualifying time of 4:20.94 in May 2017.

 University High Senior Brian Brady finished in second place with an official time of 4:55.22. Northside Junior Jacob Yosowitz dropped four seconds (4:59.69) to finish in THIRD place with a PERSONAL BEST time of 4:55.46. Jacob Yosowitz will be awarded a MEDAL for finishing in third place overall. 

 The Northside Coaching staff is entering Jacob Yosowitz in a competive 4x800m Relay with Kyle Friedler, Sergio Soto, and Charlie Guthmann at the Niles West Paul Gans Invitational.

 University High Junior Harrison Shapiro finished in fourth place with an official time of 4:59.69. Von Steuben Senior Jonathan Fernandez finished in fifth place with an official time of 5:01.79. Cristo Rey Jesuit Junior Hector Martinez finished in sixth place to complete the scoring with an official time of 5:03.64.
