Kyle Friedler BREAKS SCHOOL Record in the 3200m! Alex Ortiz runs personal best time in 800m run! THREE SCHOOL RECORDS BROKEN!
Distance night in Palatine is a unique fusion of elite distance racing, music, and fun. The event is designed to bring the best high school runners together from throughout Illinois and the Midwest.
Northside distance runners Sara McCoy, Fiona Casey, Alex Ortiz, and Kyle Friedler qualified for Distance night in Palatine based on prior performances in the 800m, 1600m, and 3200m from 2016 IHSA State Championships and the 2017 Track & Field season.
Upon arrival, they received free gear, including a Distance night in Palatine Jersey.
It was the most successful Track meet in the history of Northside. Four athletes ran personal best times and THREE SCHOOL RECORDS were broken!
The stadium was filled to its capacity. The fans were on their feet throughout the meet, and even lined both sides of the Track during a special performance in the 1600m.
A costume 4x400m Relay ended the historic night, in which two athletes from Northside, an athlete from Von Steuben, and an athlete from Mather participated in the same relay.
Northside Senior Kyle Friedler finished in 17th place, and BROKE the School Record with a personal best time of 9:30.06 in the 3200m run.
Northside Senior Alex Ortiz finished in 31st place with a personal best time of 2:01.29 in the 800m run.
