  On Sunday, March 16, 2008, the Varsity Mens Track & Field Team traveled to Henry Crown Field House for the CPS Indoor Varsity Championship Meet to take on over 40 schools, including, Phillips, Lane Tech, Harper, Austin, Robeson, South Shore, Dunbar, Steinmetz, Kenwood, North Lawndale, Corliss, Hancock, Chicago Vocation, Brooks, Lincoln Park, Urban Prep, Clemente, Hubbard, Von Steuben, King, Harlan, Lake View, Walter Payton, Taft, Clark, Crane, Agriculture Science, Ace Tech, Collins, Bogan, Uplift, Hope Academy, Al Raby, Kelvyn Park, Kelly, Curie, Simeon, Morgan Park, Fenger and Senn.

  The Mustangs came within 3 points of winning the 2008 CPS Indoor Varsity Championship meet! Kenwood won the meet with 38 points. Morgan Park finished in second place with 36 points. Northside College Prep finished in third place with 35 points! It was the highest Indoor finish in the history of the program. The Mustangs did not even compete in the 55m Hurdles or 200m Dash, and still came within 3 points of winning the Indoor City Championships!

  In the Shot Put, Northside Captain Eric Nelson broke the SCHOOL RECORD and placed fourth overall with a personal best throw of 43'5! Eric Nelson was awarded a medal for placing fourth overall. A Special thanks to the Lane Tech and Lake View Coaching staff and athletes for loaning the Mustangs Shot Puts throughout the competition. The Mustangs had their Shot Put equipment stolen the day before the meet, at Bloom High School, and would not have been able to compete if it was not for the oustanding sportsmanship of Lane Tech and Lake View High Schools. 

  In the High Jump, Northside Junior Eric Nelson broke the SCHOOL RECORD with a personal best jump of 6'3.5 to WIN the CPS Indoor High Jump Title! Eric Nelson was awarded a medal for placing 1st overall.

  In the Triple Jump, Northside Junior Eric Nelson earned a Medal by placing sixth overall with an outstanding jump of 38'8.75.

  In the 55m Dash prelims, Northside Junior Wemi Jemine made the finals with a personal best time of 6.92. In the finals, Junior Wemi Jemine earned a Medal by placing fifth overall!

  In the 55m Hurdles, Junior Albert Lin had to be scratched from the meet due to illness.

  In the 4x800m Relay, Sophomore Cuitlahuac Pineda Youniss ran a 2:09.30 800m split on the first leg of the relay, and made a nice exchange to Wesley Laytham. Freshman Wesley Laytham ran a 2:16.70 800m split on the second leg of the relay, and made a nice exchange to Charlie Mesimore. Freshman Charlie Mesimore ran a 2:14.00 800m split on the third leg of the relay, and made a nice exchange to Junior Jonathan Kittaka. Jonathan Kittaka ran a 2:13.69 800m split to anchor the Mustangs to second place, for a total time of 8:53.69. Cuitlahuac Pineda Youniss, Wesley Laytham, Charlie Mesimore, and Jonathan Kittaka were awarded Medals for placing 2nd in the CPS Indoor Championships.

  In the 800m Run, Junior Simon Vecchioni ran a personal best time of 2:13.32 to place fifth overall. Simon Vecchioni was awarded a Medal for placing fifth overall.

  In the 4x200m Relay, Senior Erik Flores ran a 26.68 200m split on the first leg of the relay, and made a nice exchange to Santino Merino. Senior Santino Merino ran a 25.34 200m split on the second leg of the relay, and made a nice exchange to Freshman Wesley Laytham. Wesley Laytham ran a 26.28 200m split on the third leg of the relay, and made a nice exchange to Junior Wemi Jemine. Wemi Jemine ran a 25.69 200m split, to anchor the Mustangs to an outstanding time of 1:44.99.

  In the 400m run, Junior Eric Nelson ran a personal best time of 56.50. Eric Nelson is now within 0.89 seconds of Geoff Edwards 400m school record (55.61).

  In the Mile, Walter Payton's Jose Mora won it with a 4:48. Jose Mora dropped 8 seconds off his PR. Jose Mora gave up football this past fall, to run Cross Country, and focus on distance running year round, and it has really paid off for him. Jose Mora is one of the most improved runners in the CPS. Northside Sophomore Cuitlahuac Pineda Youniss ran a personal best time of 4:51 to place second overall. Cuitlahuac Pineda Youniss ran the first 800m in 2:29, and then ran a negative split of 2:22 for a personal best time of 4:51. Cuitlahuac Pineda Youniss ran 400m splits of 72, 77, 72, and 70 for an outstanding time of 4:51. Cuitlahuac Pineda Youniss was awarded a Medal for placing second overall. Lake View's Alex Agnafonov finished in third place with an outstanding time of 4:54. Lane Tech's Fernando Arroyo finished in fourth place with a time of 4:57.

  In the 200m Dash, Junior Wemi Jemine was scratched due to the length of the meet conflicting with evening church services. The Mustangs are looking forward to Wemi Jemine running the 200m Dash at the Bronco Invitational on Saturday, March 22, 2008.

  In the 4x400m Relay, Freshman Wesley Laytham ran a 55.96 400m split on the first leg of the relay. Wesley Laytham will attempt to break the school record in the 400m at the Ostberg Sophomore-Freshman Championships at Fenton High School on Tuesday, March 18, 2008. Senior Santino Merino ran a 58.91 400m split on the second leg of the relay, and made a nice exchange to Freshman Charlie Mesimore. Charlie Mesimore ran a 59.84 400m split on the third leg of the relay, and made a nice exchange to Junior Simon Vecchioni. Simon Vecchioni ran a 60.79 400m split, to anchor the Mustangs to third in their heat win an outstanding time of 3:55.50. The Mustangs 4x400m Relay dropped 1.33 seconds in less than a week, and are now within 1.35 seconds of the School Record.

 On Sunday morning, March 16, 2008, the Northside Varsity Women traveled to historic Henry Crown Field house at the University of Chicago for the CPS Varsity Indoor Championship Meet.

 In the High Jump, Steinmeitz Lashell Holmes won it with a jump of 5'0. Simeon's Cheshi Poston and Imari Mason tied for second with jumps of 4'10. The tie was broken and second place was awarded to Simeon's Cheshi Poston for having the least amount of misses in the competition. CVOC's Dominique Anderson finished in fourth with a jump of 4'8. Lane Tech's Brittany Jones finished in fifth place with a jump of 4'6. Fengler's Angelica Reed finished in sixth with a jump of 4'6. Northside Senior Kelly Varney finished in seventh place with an outstanding jump of 4'4.

 In the Long Jump, Kenwood's Imari Mason won it with a jump of 17'1.50. South Shore's Stephanie Davis finished in second place with a jump of 15'2. Lane Tech's Idia Omogiate finished in third place with a jump of 15'1. Northside College Prep Junior Maria Torres broke the SCHOOL RECORD with a jump of 14'7 to place fourth overall. Maria Torres was awardeda MEDAL for placing fourth overall. CVOC's Lakendra Howse jumped 14'4.50 to place fifth overall. Simeon's Naketa Washington jumped 14'4 to complete the scoring by placing sixth overall.

  In the Shot Put, Kenwood's Kawanna Brooks won it with an outstanding throw of 30'8. Fenger's Brittney Jones finished in second with a throw of 30'3. Von Steuben's Natalie Mitrovic finished in third with a throw of 28'6. Clark's Ansherra Hilliard finished in fourth with a throw of 27'5. Lane Tech's Olivia Fuentes finished in fifth with a throw of 26'10. Clemente's Marie Medina finished in sixth with a throw of 25'3 to complete the scoring. Northside Freshman Caeleigh Renkosiak finished in 11th place with an outstanding throw of 21'5.50.

  In the Triple Jump, Kenwood's Kawanna Brooks won it with a jump of 36'6.75. Northside College Prep Junior Maria Torres jumped a season best 34'6.75 to place SECOND overall! Torres was awarded a MEDAL for placing second overall. Steinmetz Kierra Dye finished in third with a jump of 31'6. Robeson's Tierra Longbey finished in fourth with a jump of 30'10. Simeon's Shantille Swanagain finished in fifth with a jump of 30'7. CHAS's Selah Lee finished in sixth with a jump of 29'11.

  In the 55m Dash, Northside Junior Adaora Achufusi ran an outstanding time of 8.22

  In the 55m Hurdles, Northside Junior Jennifer Kane was scratched due to illness.

  In the 4x800m Relay, the Mustangs were seeded fourth going into the meet, and after the first 400m, the Mustangs found themselves in seventh place. The Mustangs came all the way back to WIN it! Northside Captain Rachel Kittaka ran the first 400m in 79 and ran an 82 for the second 400m, and passed four teams on her final quarter!, for a personal best 2:41.17 800m split (6 seconds time drop!), and made a nice exchange to Freshman Karlyn Gehring. Karlyn Gehring dropped 12 seconds off her PR, with a 2:50 800m split to move the Mustangs into first place. Freshman Su Yang maintained the lead on the third leg of the relay with a 2:55 800m split (2 seconds time drop!), and made a nice exchange to Ani Zotti. Junior Ani Zotti, anchored the Mustangs to victory, with an outstanding 2:47 800m split (5 seconds time drop!), for a total time of 11:13.86. Robeson finished in second place with a time of 11:25.46. Kenwood finished in third place with a time of 11:30.91. Lane Tech finished in fourth place with a time of 11:42.80. Harper finished in fifth place with a time of 11:42.86. Clemente completed the scoring by finished in sixth place with an outstanding time of 11:46.65.

 In the 800m run, Northside Junior Anna Parks WON it with an outstanding time of 2:38. Anna Parks ran 200m splits of 41, 39, 42, and 36 to win the 2008 CPS Indoor Varsity Meet title! Anna Parks was awarded a MEDAL for placing first overall. Lane Tech's Anna Chlopecki finished in second place with an outstanding time of 2:39.84. Harlen's Tikeyiah Johnson finished in third with a time of 2:48. Kenwood's Kateve Miller finished in fourth with a time of 2:51. Clemente's Andrea Jackson finished in fifth with a time of 2:51. Brook's Rachel Smith completed the scoring with a time of 2:52.84.

 In the 4x200m Relay, Northside finished in seventh place with an outstanding time of 1:59.54. Junior Adaora Achufusi ran a 28.18 200m split on the first leg of the relay. Junior Maria Torres ran a 30.97 200m split on the second leg of the relay. Junior Maria Zdunek ran a 30.75 200m split on the third leg of the relay. Senior Kelly Varney ran a 29.64 200m split to edge Lane Tech at the line to finish in seventh place, with a time of 1:59.54.

 In the 400m Run, Northside Junior Anna Parks earned a Medal by placing sixth overall with an outstanding time of 68.05.

 In the Mile, Northside Senior Rachel Kittaka WON it with a season best time of 5:55. Kenwood's Icy Snoddy finished in second place with a time of 6:18. Steinmetz's Jazmine Vazquez finished in third place with a time of 6:22. Von Steuben's Morghan Brandon finished in fourth place with a time of 6:23. Lane Tech's Teresita Pineda finished in fifth place with a time of 6:23.95. CVOC's Shana Williams finished in sixth place to complete the scoring with a time of 6:32.27.

 In the 200m Dash, Northside Junior Maria Torres finished in 13th place with an outstanding time of 29.49.

 In the 4x400m Relay, Northside (4:43.22) edged Lane Tech (4:43.64) to place sixth overall. Adaora Achufusi, Karlyn Gehring, Kelly Varney, and Anna Parks were awarded MEDALS for placing sixth overall. 

 The Meet featured over 40 schools and lasted over 5 hours. Kenwood Academy won the 2008 Indoor City Championship. The Mustangs finished in THIRD place overall, and were less than 3 points behind Second place Trophy winner, Harper. The Mustangs third place finish, tied the Mustangs highest finish in the history of the program. The Northside Varsity Women will have a re-match with Kenwood Academy at the Bronco Invitational on Saturday, March 22, 2008 at Eckersal Stadium.

  On Saturday, March 15, 2008, the Northside Varsity Mens Track & Field Team traveled to Bloom High School in Chicago Heights, Illinois for the Bloom Township Track Madness Invitational. The meet featured 13 schools, including: King High School, Bloom Township, Crete-Monee, Marian Catholic, Rich East, Gary Westside, Bremen, Thorton Fractional North, Joilet Township, Rich South, Northside College Prep, Evergreen Park, and Orr High School.

  In the Shot Put, Northside Senior Brandon Quach threw a personal best 32'9.

  In the High Jump, Northside Sophomore Forrest Cortes, and Freshman Miles Austrevich, both made outstanding attempts at clearing 5'4.

  In the Pole Vault, with Senior Vinh Nguyen in Japan this week, the Mustangs had no entries. Vinh Nguyen will defend the CPS Indoor title on Monday, March 24, 2008 at Whitney Young High School.

  In the 55m High Hurdle prelims, Northside Sophomore Andrew Czyszczon ran a personal best time of 9.61.

  In the 55m Dash prelims, Northside Sophomore Neal Capapas ran a personal best 6.75. It was the fastest 55m time run by a Northside athlete this season. Sophomore Peter Wilk ran an outstanding time of 7.42. Sophomore Brandon Teng ran an outstanding time of 7.65.

  In the 4x800m Relay, Freshman Miles Austrevich ran a personal best 800m split of 2:23.72 on the first leg of the relay, and made a nice exchange to Sophomore Cooper Eben. Cooper Eben ran a personal best 800m split of 2:20.42 on the second leg of the relay, and made a nice exchange to Sophomore Andrew Czyszczon. Andrew Czyszczon ran an 800m split of 2:34.78 on the third leg of the relay, and made a nice exchange to Freshman Noel Lopez. Noel Lopez anchored the Mustangs to sixth place overall, with a 2:35.72 800m split, for a total time of 9:53.80.

  In the 3200m run, Senior Brad Eben ran the first mile in 5:53, and the second mile in 6:08 to tie his season best time of 12:01. Sophomore Forrest Cortes ran the first mile in a personal best 5:58, and the second mile in 6:19, for a personal best 3200m run time of 12:17. Forrest Cortes dropped 4 seconds off his personal best time.

  In the 4x200m Relay, Sophomore Peter Wilk ran a 200m split of 28.77 on the first leg of the relay. Freshman Noel Lopez ran a 200m split of 28.65 on the second leg of the relay. Sophomore Brandon Teng ran a 200m split of 28.60 on the third leg of the relay. Sophomore Neal Capapas anchored the mustangs with a 27.57 200m split for a total time of 1:53.59.

  In the 800m run, Junior Brian Chhun ran the first 400m in 68, and the second 400m in 78 for a personal best time of 2:26. Freshman Erik Zuehlke droped 4 seconds off his PR, for a personal best time of 2:36.

  In the 400m run, Sophomore Andrew Czyszczon won his heat with a personal best time of 63.62.

  In the 1600m run, Marian Catholic's Ryan Merriman won it with an outstanding time of 4:48. Breman's Eric Stadter finished in second place with an outstanding time of 5:00. Northside Sophomore Cooper Eben ran the first 800m in 2:33, and came from behind with a negative split of 2:30 to place third overall with a personal best time of 5:03. Cooper Eben was awarded a Medal for placing third overall in the meet. Freshman Miles Austrevich ran the first 800m in 2:53, and ran a negative split of 2:45, for a personal best time of 5:38. Miles Austrevich dropped 17 seconds off his PR, with an outstanding time of 5:38. Senior Brad Eben ran the first 800m in 2:49, and ran the second 800m in 2:58, for a personal best time of 5:47.

 In the 200m Dash, Freshman Noel Lopez ran a personal best time of 27.68. Senior Brandon Quach ran a personal best time of 31.81.

  In the 4x400m Relay, Sophomore Neal Capapas ran a personal best 400m split of 58.00 on the first leg of the relay. Junior Brian Chhun ran a 62.83 400m split on the second leg of the relay. Sophomore Peter Wilk ran a 62.10 400m split on the third leg of the relay. Sophomore Brandon Teng anchored the Mustangs with a 64.00 400m split, for a total time of 4:06.93.

  Prior to the meet, the Mustangs Sophomore 4x200m relay, was invited by CPS Track & Field Cordinator Thomas Smith to appear at the Indoor City Championships on Sunday, March 16, 2008 in a special Sophomore exhibition heat of the 4x200. Sophomore Peter Wilk, Freshman Noel Lopez, Sophomore Cooper Eben, and Sophomore Neal Capapas will represent the Mustangs in the Sophomore 4x200m exhibition heat at the Indoor City Championships this Sunday.

  After the meet, Senior Brad Eben took leadership honors, and lead the Mustangs in a Team huddle to celebrate the success of the meet, and victories over King High School, Orr High School, and Evergreen Park.

 Upon arrival back to Chicago, the entire Varsity Mens Track & Field Team, and coaching staff, walked over to IHOP for lunch to celebrate an outstanding conclusion to the regular Indoor season. The Varsity Indoor City Championships take place on Sunday, March 16, 2008. The Ostberg Indoor Sophomore-Freshman Championships takes place on Tuesday, March 18, 2008. The Varsity Indoor State Meet takes place on Saturday, March 29, 2008.

  The Mustangs will open up the Outdoor Track & Field season, on Saturday, March 22, 2008 at historic Walter Eckersal Stadium. After a coaching staff meeting, Northside College Prep announced that during the outdoor Track & Field season, the Mustangs will dismiss anyone from the squad who misses two meets, and/or nine days of practice. The Mustangs were limited to three athletes per event at the Bloom Invitational. As a result, the Mustangs had to leave over 30 athletes at home this weekend. Athletes who were entered in the Bloom Invitational, and did not show up to the meet, will be suspended from the Team indefinitely. The Mustangs have a roster of over 65 athletes, and the Mustangs left over 30 athletes at home on Saturday, who could have competed in place of the missing athletes if the athletes would have taken the time to notify the coaching staff that they could not attend the meet. The additional Team rules for Outdoor Track season, will help Northside bring home their first State Title in school history, and will provide every athlete on the Team, a Track & Field experience that is second to none.

  The Mustangs will have a Team Pasta Party after practice on Thursday, March 20, 2008 to celebrate the begining of Outdoor Track season. A Team / Parent Tailgate party will take place on Saturday, April 5, 2008 at River Park, after the Mather Invitational.

 The Northside College Prep Mens and Womens Track & Field Team will be having a Team Pasta Party after practice on Thursday, March 20, 2008 from 5 pm - 7:00 pm in the Northside Cafeteria in honor of the start of the Outdoor Track & Field season. The Pasta Party will be catered by Villa Palmero Catering, and the menu will include: Garden Salad, Fresh bread, BBQ Meatballs, Grilled Chicken Penne Pasta, Vegeterian Lasagna, Spinach Ravoli, and Penne Pasta with a Marina sauce. The Pasta Party is 100% funded by the Northside Track & Field Coaching staff. The Mustangs first co-ed Outdoor Track & Field meet will take place on Saturday, March 22, 2008. The Mustangs final Indoor Meet will take place at Indoor State (Illinois Prep Top Times) on Saturday, March 29, 2008.

 On Friday, March 7, 2008, the Northside College Prep Varsity Men Track & Field Team traveled to historic Henry Crown Field house at the University of Chicago for the UC Lab School Indoor Classic. Henry Crown Field house features an athlete friendly atmosphere, upper deck seating, 200m Indoor Track and has been the host to numerous National meets, and local Championship meets as well. The Varsity letter was invented in the 1890s by Amos Alonzo Stagg as he was sitting on the entrance steps to Henry Crown Field house.The main wall of the stadium contains a list of field house records, which include several Olympians. The first Heisman Trophy winner (1935), Jay Berwanger is still listed on the all-time list for Henry Crown for the 55m Dash. Northside Head Coach Jon Gordon was there the night Patrick Sullivan set the field house record in the 3000m (8:20) in 2004. Henry Crown Field house is a Chicago landmark that is rich in Track & Field history. It will also be the home of the 2008 Varsity Men and Women CPS All Star Meet on Sunday, March 16, 2008.

  The 2008 UC Lab School Indoor Classic meet featured University High, Wheaton Academy, Northshore Country Day, Luther North, Jones, and Northside College Prep. The point scale used to score the meet, was 10-8-6-4-2-1 for individual events and 10-8-6-4-2 for relays.

  In 2007, the Mustangs finished third in the meet. In 2008, the Mustangs WON the 2008 UC Lab School Indoor Classic with a total of 136 points! North Shore Country Day came in second with 94.5 points. Luther North came in third with 64.25 points. University High finshed in fourth with 59.50 points. Wheaton Academy finished in fifth place with 32 points. Jones finished in sixth place with 13.5 points.

 In the Long Jump, Northside Junior Wemi Jemine WON it with a jump of 17'04.00. Northside Junior Albert Lin tied North Shore Senior Shreve Fellars for second place with a jump of 17'00. Northside Junior Eric Nelson placed fourth overall with a jump of 16'11. Luther North Junior Tony Figueroa placed fifth with a jump of 16'9. University High Freshman Faiaz Khan completed the scoring with a jump of 16'04 to place sixth overall.

 In the Triple Jump, Northside Captain Eric Nelson WON it with a jump of 35'11. Northside Junior Albert Lin placed second overall with a jump of 35'00.50. North Shore Freshman Wilson Taylor finished in third place with a jump of 33'10. Luther North Sophomore Andy Nistor finished in fourth place with a jump of 32'7. Luther North Sophomore Ryan Muench finished in fifth place with a jump of 32'1.5. Wheaton Academy Freshman Peter Heidlauf finished in sixth place with a jump of 31'2.5. Northside Freshman Miles Austrevich finished in ninth place with a personal best jump of 29'1.50.

  In the 3200m Run, the Mustangs 1-2 punch, of Cuitlahuac Pineda Youniss and Cooper Eben finished in first and second place! Junior Cuitlahuac Pineda Youniss won it with a personal best time of 10:34. Cuitlahuac Pineda Youniss dropped 13 seconds from the Fenton Indoor Classic. Sophomore Cooper Eben dropped 19 seconds off his PR, for a personal best time of 10:50 to place second overall. Cuitlahuac Pineda Youniss and Cooper Eben both made the Mustangs All-Time Distance honor roll with their outstanding performances. University High's Robert Meyer finished in third place with a time of 10:58. Wheaton Academy's Mike DeRenzo finished in fourth place with a time of 11:13. University High's Aaron Buikema (11:16) and Stephen Heinz (11:36) completed the scoring by finishing fifth and sixth respectively. Northside Senior Brad Eben dropped 30 seconds from the Fenton Indoor Classic for a personal best time of 12:01 to place seventh overall. Northside Freshman Jonathan Kirston dropped 41 seconds from the Fenton Indoor Classic for a Track PR of 12:12 to place eighth overall. Northside Sophomore Forrest Cortes was fourth fastest Sophomore in the meet, and dropped 27 seconds from the Fenton Indoor Classic for a Track PR of 12:21 to place ninth overall.

  In the 55m Hurdles, North Shore's Shaun Teamer won it with a time of 8.60. Luther North's Andy Nistor finished in second with a time of 9.30. Northside Freshman Hersch Perlmutter finished in third place with a time of 9.90. Wheaton Academy's Peter Heidluaf finished in fourth place with a time of 10.10. Northside Senior Santino Merino finished in fifth place with a time of 10.20. North Shore's Aaron Regunberg finished in sixth place to complete the scoring with a time of 10.30. Northside Sophomore Andrew Czyszczon finished in seventh place with a time of 10.50. Junior Albert Lin recovered quickly after hitting his trail leg on a hurdle to finished in eighth place with a time of 10.80. Freshman Muhammad Hossain finished in ninth place with a time of 11.40. Freshman Luis Gaytan finished in tenth place with a personal best time of 13.20.

 In the 55m Dash, Luther North's Nikko Glasper won it with a time of 6.80. North Shore's David Thomas finished in second place with a time of 6.90. Northside Junior Wemi Jemine, and Northside Sophomore Hunter Speese finished in a three-way tie for Third place with Luther North's Bryan Robinson with outstanding times of 7.00. Luther North's Steve Kohn, North Shore's Shreve Fellars, University's Faiaz Khan, and University's Joe Hurst finished in a four-way tie for Sixth place with a time of 7.10. Northside Senior Jerry Tran ran a time of 7.30. Northside Junior Brandon Cooper ran a time of 7.50. Northside Senior Kyle Diep ran a time of 7.80. Northside Junior John Ko ran a time of 8.00.

 In the 4x800m Relay "A", Junior Simon Vecchioni ran 200m splits of 32, 34, 37, 32.36, for a 800m split of 2:15.36 on the first leg of the relay, and made a nice exchange to Jiasong Yang. Junior Jiasong Yang ran 200m splits of 33.64, 35, 36, and 36.11 for a 800m split of 2:20.75 on the second leg of the relay, and made a nice exchange to Miles Austrevich. Freshman Miles Austrevich ran 200m splits of 32.89, 36, 37, 38.17 for a 800m split of 2:24.06 on the third leg of the relay, and made a nice exchange to Senior Erik Flores. Erik Flores anchored the Mustangs to fourth place overall with 200m splits of 33.83, 36, 40, 39 for a 800m split of 2:28.83, for a total time of 9:29.

 In the 4x800m Relay "B", Sophomore Andrew Czyszczon ran an 800m split of 2:30.96 on the first leg of the relay, and made a nice exchange to Freshman Erik Zuehlke. Erik Zuehlke ran a personal best 800m split of 2:40.12 on the second leg of the relay. Freshman Rhiday Pandya tied his PR with an 800m split of 2:35.03 on the third leg of the relay. Freshman Luis Gaytan anchored the Mustangs with an 800m split of 2:55, for a total time of 10:40.24.

 In the 600m Run, Luther North's Zach Tarcha won it with a time of 1:36.10. Northside Junior Brian Chhun finished in second overall with 200m splits of 29, 34, and 37.90 for a personal best 600m time of 1:40.90. Jones Danny Davidson finished in third place with a time of 1:41.60. Luther North's Greg Johnston finished in fourth place with a time of 1:43.10. Northside Senior Adam Swiatlowski finished in fifth place overall with 200m splits of 33, 39, and 37.90 for a personal best 600m time of 1:49.90. North Shore's Christoph Tries completed the scoring by finishing in sixth place with a time of 1:50.70. Northside Sophomore Peter Wilk finished in seventh overall with 200m splits of 32, 39, and 42 for a personal best 600m time of 1:53. Northside Junior Rafael Confino finished in ninth overall with 200m splits of 33, 37, and 43.4 for a personal best 600m time of 1:54.4. Northside Junior Ted Kalaw finished in tenth overall with 200m splits of 31, 43, and 40.7 for a personal best 600m time of 1:54.7. Northside Junior Coleman Gailloreto finished in 13th place overall with 200m splits of 35, 43, and 40.30 for a personal best 600m time of 1:58.20.

  In the 4x200m Relay "A", Sophomore Hunter Speese ran a 25.05 200m split on the first leg of the relay. Senior Santino Merino ran a 25.53 200m split on the second leg of the relay. Junior Albert Lin ran a 27.53 200m split on the third leg of the relay. Junior Wemi Jemine anchored the Mustangs to first in their heat, and Second overall with a 26.07 200m split for a total time of 1:44.18. The Mustangs came within in 2 seconds of the school record! 

  In the 4x200m Relay "B", Senior Jerry Tran ran a 26.11 200m split on the first leg of the relay, and made a nice exchange to Kyle Diep. Senior Kyle Diep ran a 30.10 200m split on the second leg of the relay, and made a nice exchange to Brandon Teng. Junior Brandon Teng ran a 27.20 200m split on the third leg of the relay, and made a nice exchange to Brandon Cooper. Junior Brandon Cooper anchored the Mustangs with a 27.30 200m split for a total time of 1:50.71.

  The five minute barrier is the bench mark for elite high school milers. In 1966, American distance legend Steve Prefontaine ran a Mile PR of 5:00 his freshman year of High School Track & Field. On Friday, March 7, 2008, Northside Freshman Charlie Mesimore passed Steve Prefontaine's High School Freshman mark with a personal best time of 4:59!!!

  In the Mile, North Shore Junior Peter Callahan won it with an outstanding time of 4:46. University High Senior Philip Verma finished in second place with a time of 4:55. Northside Sophomore Cuitlahuac Pineda Youniss ran 200m splits of 34, 40, (74 400m), 38, 38 (2:30 800m), 37, 38, (3:45 1200), 39, and 33 to tie his personal best Track time of 4:57 to finish in third place overall. Cuitlahuac Pineda Youniss ran the first 800m in 2:30, and the second 800m in a negative split of 2:27 to tie his Track PR of a 4:57 to place third overall. Northside Freshman Charlie Mesimore ran 200m splits of 35, 40 (75 400m), 38, 39 (2:32 800m), 39, 38 (3:49 1200), 36, and 34 for a personal best time of 4:59! Charlie Mesimore ran the first 800m in 2:32, and the second 800m in a negative split of 2:27 for a personal best time of 4:59 to place fourth overall. Northside Cooper Eben ran 200m splits of 36, 39 (75 400m), 39, 39 (2:33 800m), 39, 40 (3:52 1200m), 38, 34 for a personal best time of 5:04! Cooper Eben ran the first 800m in 2:33, and the second 800m in a negative split of 2:31 for a personal best time of 5:04 to place fifth overall! Northside Freshman Wesley Laytham dropped 15 seconds from the Fenton Indoor Classic with a personal best time of 5:06 to complete the scoring by placing sixth overall! Wesley Laytham ran 200m splits of 36, 38 (74 400m), 40, 40 (2:34 800m), 41, 39 (3:54 1200m), 39, and 33 for a personal best time of 5:06! Wesley Laytham ran the first 800m in 2:34, and the second 800m in a negative split of 2:32 for a personal best time of 5:06 to place sixth overall! University High's Robert Meyer finished in seventh place with a time of 5:10. Luther North Senior Travis Brandt finished in eighth place with a time of 5:11. Northside Sophomore Jiasong Yang ran 200m splits of 37, 39 (76 400m), 40, 39 (2:35 800m), 41, 39 (3:55 1200m), 40, and 37 for a personal best time of 5:12! Jiasong Yang ran the first 800m in 2:35, and the second 800m in 2:37 for a personal best time of 5:12 to place ninth overall. Northside Sophomore James Rey ran the first 800m in 2:53, and the second 800m in 3:02 for an outstanding time of 5:55.

  In the 400m run, Northshore's Ivan Ramirez won it with an outstanding time of 57.00. Northside Captain Eric Nelson outkicked University High's Joe Hurst (57.80) to the finish line for second place overall with a personal best time of 57.11. It was the fastest 400m time run by a Northside athlete this season. University High's Joe Hurst finished in third place with a time of 57.80. University High's Ben Hain finished in fourth place with a time of 59.60. Northside Senior Erik Flores tied Jones Griffin Kelly for fifth place to complete the scoring with an outstanding time of 60.10. University High's Christopher Chang finished in seventh place with a time of 61.70. Northside Junior Brandon Cooper finished in eighth place with a time of 61.80. Northside Sophomore Sam Olver finished in 14th place with an outstanding time of 67.80. Northside Freshman Jameel Ahmed finished in 16th place with a personal best time of 67.90. Northside Freshman Naim Uddin finished in 20th place with a personal best time of 71.30.

 In the 800m run, North Shore Junior Peter Callahan won it with a time of 2:09.90. Wheaton Academy Senior Matt DeRenzo placed second with a time of 2:11.90. University High Senior Jarus Singh placed third with a time of 2:17.30. Northside Captain Simon Vecchioni out kicked North Shore Senior Shaun Teamer (2:18:10) to place fourth overall with an outstanding time of 2:17.70. Junior Simon Vecchioni ran 200m splits of 33, 35 (68.00 400m), and 35, 34.70 (69.70 2nd 400m) for an outstanding time of 2:17.70. University High Senior Philip Verma completed the scoring by placing sixth overall with a time of 2:20.60. Northside Freshman Miles Austrevich placed tenth overall with an outstanding time of 2:29.70. Miles Austrevich ran 200m splits of 35, 38 (73 400m), and 38, 38.70 (76.70 2nd 400m) for an outstanding time of 2:29.70. Northside Sophomore Forrest Cortes ran a personal best time of 2:38.00 to place 15th overall. Forrest Cortes ran 200m splits of 38, 40 (78 400m), and 44, 36 (80.00 2nd 400m) for a personal best time of 2:38. Cortes dropped 5 seconds off his PR. Freshman Jonathan Kriston ran a time of 2:42 to place 16th overall. Jonathan Kriston ran 200m splits of 39, 43 (82 400m), and (40, 37) for a time of 2:42 to place 16th overall. Northside Freshman Will Riley ran a time of 3:01. Will Riley ran 200m splits of 40, 42 (82 400m), and 48, 51 for a time of 3:01.

  In the 200m Dash, Luther North's Nikko Glasper won it with a time of 24.60. North Shore's David Thomas placed second with a time of 25.00. University High's Joe Hurst placed third with a time of 25.20. Northside Sophomore Hunter Speese ran an outstanding time of 25.60 to place fourth overall. Jones Washington Lnace placed fifth overall with a time of 26.40. Northside Junior Wemi Jemine completed the scoring by placing sixth overall with a personal best time of 26.70. Northside Sophomore Sam Olver ran a time of 29.10 to place 14th overall. Northside Freshman Hersch Perlmutter ran a personal best time of 29.20 to place 15th overall.

  In the 4x400m Relay "A", the Mustangs WON it with a season best 4x400m relay time of 3:56.83. Freshman Wesley Laytham ran a 57.21 400m split on the first leg of the relay, and made a nice exchange to Captain Santino Merino. Senior Santino Merino ran a 59.53 400m split on the second leg of the relay, and made a nice exchange to Freshman Charlie Mesimore. Charlie Mesimore ran a 60.97 400m split on the third leg of the relay, and made a nice exchange to Captain Simon Vecchioni. Junior Simon Vecchioni ran a 59.12 400m split to anchor the Mustangs to victory with a season best 4x400m Relay time of 3:56.83. The Mustangs came within 2 seconds of the school record.

  In the 4x400m Relay "B", Sophomore Peter Wilk ran a 62.59 400m split on the first leg of the relay. Freshman Muhammad Hossain ran a 71.71 400m split on the second leg of the relay. Sophomore Neibu Tadele ran a 71.85 400m split on the third leg of the relay. Junior John Ko anchored the Mustangs with a 66.97 400m split for a total time of 4:33.12.

  The Northside Mustangs will be fielding TWO seperate Varsity squads next weekend. The Mustangs will be sending one Varsity squad to the Indoor City All Star Meet on Sunday, March 16, 2008, where the Mustangs will be seeking their first CPS Indoor title. Varsity athletes not competing in the Indoor City Championships, will be competing in the Bloom Invitational on Saturday, March 15, 2008. The Mustangs will also be competing in the Sophomore-Freshman Championships on Tuesday, March 18, 2008 at Fenton.

   The Northside Mustangs Distance Medley Relay for Indoor State (Illinois Prep Top Times) on Saturday, March 29, 2008 will consist of Simon Vecchioni (800m), Eric Nelson (400m), Charlie Mesimore (1200m), and Cuitlahuac Pineda Youniss (1600m). Alternates have yet to be determined.
