 On Saturday, April 5, 2008, the Northside Varsity Women traveled to River Park Track in Chicago, Illinois for the 8th Annual Mather Invitational. The Mather Invitational features over 900 athletes, and over 30 Teams. Relays and Individual events were scored 10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1. Medals were awarded to the top 6 Relays and Individuals. Team Trophies were awarded to the top two teams. 

  Whitney Young edged Lane Tech 101.00 to100.50 to win the 2008 Mather Invitational. Whitney Young is now the favorite to win the 2008 City title. Kenwood Academy finished in third with 87 points. Mather finished in fourth with 85 points. Northside Varisy Women finished in fifth place with 55 points, and posted victories over Payton 38, Maine East 37, Dunbar 30.50, Steinmetz 27, Jones 21, Prosser 19, Fenger 15, Marshall 11, South Shore 11, Curie 8, Lincoln Park 8, Seton Academy 7, Lake View 1, Taft 1, Roosevelt 0, Von Steuben 0, Schurz 0, Kennedy 0, Little Village 0, Amundsen 0, CICS-Northtown 0, Douglass 0, and Chicago Academy 0.

  In the Shot Put, Northside Senior Alyssa Anderon placed third overall and BROKE THE SCHOOL RECORD with a personal best throw of 31'2.50. Alyssa Anderson was awarded a Medal for placing third overall. Northside Senior Courtney Konow placed ninth overall with a throw of 26'0. Northside Senior Kaitlin Renkosiak placed 15th overall with a throw of 24'2.

  In the Discus, Northside Senior Courtney Konow placed fourth overall with a throw of 77'08. Courtney Konow was awarded a Medal for placing fourth overall. Northside Senior Kelly Varney placed fifth overall with a throw of 77'05. Kelly Varney was awarded a Medal for placing fifth overall. Northside Senior Kaitlin Renkosiak placed 9th overall with a throw of 71'11.

  In the High Jump, Northside Junior Maria Torres placed fourth overall and BROKE THE SCHOOL RECORD with a personal best jump of 4'8. Maria Torres was awarded a Medal for placing fourth overall. Northside Senior Christina Prucnal completed the scoring by placing 8th overall with a personal best jump of 4'6. Northside Senior Karolina Maslanka placed 10th overall with a personal best jump of 4'4.

  In the Long Jump, Junior Maria Torres placed eighth overall and BROKE THE SCHOOL RECORD with a personal best jump of 15'5! Junior Gayatri Satam placed 17th overall with an oustanding jump of 13'8. Junior Maria Zdunek placed 18th overall with a personal best jump of 13'6.50.

  In the Triple Jump, Junior Maria Torres placed second overall with an outstanding jump of 33'11.50. Maria Torres was awarded a Medal for placing second overall. Northside Junior Gayatri Satam placed 9th overall with an outstanding jump of 28'7. Northside Junior Alice Thatcher placed 12th overall with a personal best jump of 27'00.25.

  In the 4x800m Relay, Bessie Nolan, Karlyn Gehring, Jennifer Friedmann, and Anna Parks combined for an oustanding time of 11:07.70 to place fourth overall. Medals were awarded to Bessie Nolan, Karlyn Gehring, Jennifer Friedmann, and Anna Parks for placing fourth overall.

  In the 100m Dash, Freshman Robin Doherty ran a personal best time of 15.81.

  In the 200m Dash, Freshman Ashley Kossakowski ran an outstanding time of 33.61. Freshman Lyndsey Shallberg ran a personal best time of 34.42. Freshman Caeliegh Renkosiak ran an outstanding trime of 35.07.

  In the 400m Dash, Junior Adaora Achufusi placed 8th overall and BROKE THE SCHOOL RECORD with a personal best time of 64.29. Freshman Nina Coomes placed 13th overall and ran a personal best time of 69.38. Freshman Ashley Kossakowski placed 23rd overall and ran an outstanding time of 78.35.

  In the 800m run, Northside Captain Anna Parks placed sixth overall with an outstanding time of 2:37.56. Anna Parks was awarded a Medal for placing sixth overall. Northside Sophomore Bessie Nolan placed ninth overall with an outstanding time of 2:43.98. Northside Junior Jennifer Friedmann ran an outstanding time of 3:03.05.

   In the 3200m Run, Northside Junior Ani Zotti placed fourth overall with a personal best time of 12:26.32. Ani Zotti was awarded a Medal for placing fourth overall. 

  In the Mile, Northside Junior Ani Zotti ran a time of 6:18 to place tenth overall.

  In the 100m Hurdles, Northside Senior Kelly Varney placed fourth overall with an outstanding time of 18.80. Kelly Varney was awarded a Medal for placing fourth overall. Northside Junior Jennifer Kane placed ninth overall with a time of 19.59. Northside Freshman Robin Doherty placed 11th overall with a personal best time of 21.33.

  In the 300m Hurdles, Northside Sophomore Karen Li placed 11th overall with a personal best time of 54.68. Northside Junior Maria Zdunek placed 15th overall with a personal best time of 58.30. Northside Freshman Robin Doherty placed 20th overall with a personal best time of 63.14.

  In the 4x400m Relay, Northside placed third overall with an official time of 4:28.00. Adaora Achufusi, Bessie Nolan, Kelly Varney, and Anna Parks were awarded Medals for placing third overall.

  Following the meet, the Northside Varsity Women traveled back to Northside College Prep for a Team / Parent Tailgate Party. However, the Northside Coaching staff left their clipboard at the Tailgate party, so relay splits will be coming on Monday. A special thanks to all of the Northside parents for hosting a wonderful Tailgate party.

 On Saturday, April 5, 2008, the Northside Varsity Men traveled to River Park Track in Chicago, Illinois for the 8th Annual Mather Invitational. The Mather Invitational features over 900 athletes, and over 25 Teams. All of the best Track Teams in Chicago were in attendance. Relays and Individual events were scored 10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1. Medals were awarded to the top 6 Relays and Individuals. Team Trophies were awarded to the top two teams.

 The Northside Varsity Men finished in second place overall. It was the highest finish at the Mather Invitational in the history of the program. The Mustangs were awarded a Team Trophy for placing second overall. Northside scored a total of 63 points, and posted victories over Payton (54), Fenger (53), Kenwood (48, Defending Indoor City Champions), Seton Academy (43), Curie (34), Lincoln Park (31), Steinmetz (31), Prosser (30), Marshall (22), Urban Prep (19), South Shore (18), Lake View (14), Lane Tech (13.50), Jones (6), Schurz (5), Von Steuben (5), Amundsen (1), Taft (0), Little Village (0), CICS-Northtwon (0), Douglass (0), Roosevelt (0), and Chicago Academy (0).  

 Over 900 athletes competed at the Mather Invitational, and the top individual point scorers in the Meet were Mather Junior Stephen Olopo and Northside Junior Eric Nelson. Northside Captain Eric Nelson lead the Mustangs with 23 points, by winning the High Jump, placing third in the Shot Put, placing 5th in the Discus, and placing 6th in the Triple Jump. Eric Nelson was awarded a Medal in all four events.

 In the High Jump, Northside Junior Eric Nelson broke the SCHOOL RECORD and the MEET RECORD with a personal best jump of 6'5! Curie Senior Kenneth Woods finished in second place with a jump of 5'8. Payton Senior LeRoy Gordon finished in third place with a jump of 5'8.

 In the Long Jump, Northside Junior Albert Lin completed the scoring by placing 8th overall with a personal best jump of 18'5.50! Northside Junior Martin Melto placed 9th overall with a personal best jump of 18'5.25!

 In the Shot Put, Northside Junior Eric Nelson placed third overall with an outstanding throw of 42'6.50. Northside Junior John Ko placed 20th overall with a throw of 32'5.50. Northside Freshman Jordan Jackson placed 39th overall with a throw of 26'9.50.

 In the Discus, Junior Eric Nelson placed fifth overall with a personal best throw of 103'04! Junior John Ko placed 7th overall with a personal best throw of 98'08! Senior Preston Buehrer placed 9th overall with a personal best throw of 86'09!

 In the Triple Jump, Eric Nelson broke the SCHOOL RECORD with a personal best Jump of 40'1.50! The record was previously held by Jelani Thompson, who jumped 40'1 at the 2003 CPS Outdoor Championships. Northside Junior Albert Lin completed the scoring by placing 8th overall with a personal best jump of 37'5.75. Junior Martin Melto placed 10th overall with an outstanding jump of 35'5.00.

 In the 4x800m Relay, Northside Junior Brandon Cooper ran a 2:07.70 800m split on the first leg of the Relay. Junior Simon Vecchioni ran a 2:16.10 800m split on the second leg of the Relay. Freshman Charlie Mesimore ran a personal best 2:12.00 800m split on the third leg of the Relay. Freshman Wesley Laytham anchored the Mustangs with a 2:12.20 800m split, for a total time of 8:48.20 to place Third overall! Brandon Cooper, Simon Vecchioni, Charlie Mesimore, and Wesley Laytham were awarded Medals for placing Third overall.

 In the 4x100m Relay, Senior Jerry Tran, Senior Erik Flores, Sophomore Neal Capapas, and Senior Preston Buehrer combined for a 50.14! Senior Preston Buehrer, in his second meet back, after 11 months of not being able to run due to a muscle wrapped around an artery in his leg, a February surgery, and weeks of re-hab, including walking with a cane, Northside Captain Preston Buehrer anchored the Mustangs to victories over Kenwood Academy, Amundsen, Payton, Lake View, Roosevelt, Schurz, Little Village, CICS-Northtown, and Chicago Academy. Preston Buehrer is listed on the Mustangs Distance Honor roll in both the 1600m run and the 3200m run, and during his athletic career has competed in every Track event from 100m to the 3200m run, including the Shot Put and Discus. In his first meet back on March 29, 2008, Buehrer competed in four events, and scored for the Mustangs in the Discus and anchored the Mustangs 4x200m Relay, to give the Mustangs a five point victory (110-105) over Kenwood Academy, the defending City Champions, and the Mustangs first ever Bronco Invitational Title. Preston Buehrer is on pace to return to the Mustangs 4x800m Relay by City Championships. During the time period he was injured and couldn't run, Preston Buehrer did not miss a single practice other than for Medical Treatment, to take the ACT, and Spring break. His leadership, mental toughness, and work ethic has been an inspiration to every athlete on the Team. Preston Buehrer has more determination and guts than any athlete on the planet, and the Mustangs are looking forward to his return to the 800m run at the Deerfield Track & Field Classic on Tuesday, April 8, 2008.

 In the 3200m run, Mather Junior Ivan Coronel won it with an outstanding time of 10:14.40. Lake View Senior Alex Agafonov placed second overall with an outstanding time of 10:22.33 Northside Sophomore Cuitlahuac Pineda Youniss placed third overall with a personal best time of 10:25.58. Northside Junior Jonathan Kittaka placed fourth overall with a personal best time of 10:31.94. Northside Sophomore Cooper Eben placed fifth overall with a personal best time of 10:35.83. Lincoln Park Senior Henry Mattingly placed sixth overall with an outstanding time of 10:55. Lincoln Park Junior Jacob Cetera placed seventh overall with an outstanding time of 11:12.94. Steinmetz Freshman Andres Mahmud completed the scoring by placing eighth overall with an outstanding time of 11:15.64. Cuitlahuac Pineda Youniss, Jonathan Kittaka, and Cooper Eben were awarded Medals for placing third, fourth, and fifth respectively.

 In the 110m hurdles, Northside Freshman Hersch Perlmutter placed seventh overall with an outstanding time of 19.82. Sophomore Andrew Czyszczon placed 14th overall with an outstanding time of 20.81. Senior Santino Merino placed 16th overall with an outstanding time of 21.28.

 In the 100m Dash, Northside Senior Jerry Tran ran an outstanding time of 13.01. Northside Junior Brandon Cooper ran an outstanding time of 13.05.

 In the 800m run, Northside Junior Jonathan Kittaka ran an outstanding time of 2:14. Northside Sophomore Cooper Eben ran a personal best time of 2:15. Northside Junior Simon Vecchioni ran an outstanding time of 2:17.

 In the 4x200m Relay, Northside Sophomore Brandon Teng, Senior Santino Merino, Sophomore Neal Capapas, and Senior Erik Flores scored for the Mustangs by placing 7th overall with an outstanding time of 1:43.69, and posted victories over Mather, Urban Prep, Amundsen, Payton, Lincoln Park, Little Village, Douglass, Schurz, Chicago Academy, Lake View, and South Shore.

 In the 400m Run, Northside Junior Brandon Cooper ran an outstanding time of 55.68. Freshman Noel Lopez ran an outstanding time of 58.22. Northside Senior Preston Buehrer ran an outstanding time of 62.78.

 In the 300m Hurdles, Santino Merino ran a personal best time of 48.81. Freshman Hersch Perlmutter ran a personal best time of 49.16. Sophomore Andrew Czyszczon ran a personal best time of 50.98.
