 On Friday, May 19, 2017, the Northside Varsity Men traveled to Concordia University in River Forest, Illinois for the IHSA Class 3A St.Ignatius Sectional Championships.

 Oak Park River Forest won the 2017 IHSA Sectional Championships. Congratulations to Coach Tim Hasso, and the Oak Park River Forest Huskies.

 The Northside Varsity Men finished in FIFTH place with 41 points, and posted victories over: 6. Walter Payton (33 points), 7. Taft (32 points), 8. St. Ignatius (28 points), 9. Steinmetz (22 points), 10. Jones College Prep (18 points), 11. ITW David Speer Academy (12 points), 12. Schurz (11 points), 13. Lincoln Park (6 points), 14. Orr (5 points), 15. Von Steuben (4 points), and 16. Mather (2 points).

 The Northside Varsity Men had a record of 11-4 on the day!

 The 100m Dash featured the Varsity City Champion (Myles Davis, Walter Payton), and the Sophomore City Champion (Osazee Osaghae, Northside).

 In the 100m Dash, Northside Sophomore Osazee Osaghae WON the 100m dash! Osazee Osaghae was awarded a MEDAL for winning the IHSA Sectional Title! Osazee Osaghae qualified for the IHSA State Championships for the second consecutive year in the 100m dash! Walter Payton Senior Myles Davis finished in second place. Northside Junior Guy Lohoua won his heat, and finished in a THIRD place tie with Schurz Senior Jesus Campos. Guy Lohoua was awarded a MEDAL for finishing in third place overall. Guy Lohoua was also invited by the Northside Coaching Staff and administration to compete in the open 100m races under the lights at O'Brien Stadium after the IHSA State Championship Prelims, and serve as a roommate for Osazee Osaghae for the IHSA State Championships. Oak Park River Forest Freshman Daz Bryant finished in fifth place. ITW David Speer Sophomore Joel Perdomo finished in sixth place to complete the scoring.

 In the 4x100m Relay, Northside Junior Nick Brown, Junior Gabe Piechnik, Junior Guy Lohoua, and Sophomore Osazee Osaghae finished in THIRD place, and came within .08 of a second of qualifying for the IHSA State Championships! Nick Brown, Gabe Piechnik, Guy Lohoua, and Osazee Osaghae were awarded MEDALS for finishing in third place overall.

 In the 3200m run, Northside Senior Kyle Friedler finished in THIRD place with an outstanding time of 9:36.07. Kyle Friedler was awarded a MEDAL for finishing in third place overall. Kyle Friedler was also invited by the Northside Coaching Staff and administration to compete in two events, including the open 3200m, and Steeplechase, under the lights at O'Brien Stadium after the IHSA State Championship Prelims.

 In the 400m Dash, Northside Senior Brandon Banas finished in fifth place with an outstanding time of 55.45. Brandon Banas was awarded a MEDAL for finishing in fifth place overall.

 In the 800m run, Northside Junior Jacob Yosowitz finished second in his heat, and in ninth place overall with an outstanding time of 2:05.11.

 In the 4x200m Relay, Northside Junior Nick Brown, Junior Gabe Piechnik, Junior Guy Lohoua and Sophomore Osazee Osaghae finished in Fourth plqace overall. Nick Brown, Gabe Piechnik, Guy Lohoua, and Osazee Osaghae were awarded MEDALS for finishing in fourth place overall.

 In the 1600m run, Northside Senior Alex Ortiz finished in fifth place with an outstanding time of 4:33.11. Alex Ortiz ran a pure guts race from start to finish. Alex Ortiz was awarded a MEDAL for finishing in fifth place overall. Alex Ortiz was also invited by the Northside Coaching Staff and administration to compete in two events, including the open 800m, and Steeplechase, under the lights at O'Brien Stadium after the IHSA State Championship Prelims. Ortiz could potentially challenge the school record in the Steeplechase.

 In the 200m Dash, Northside Sophomore Osazee Osaghae finished in fourth place. Osazee Osaghae was awarded a MEDAL for finishing in fourth place overall. Northside Junior Guy Lohoua finished in fifth place. Guy Lohoua was awarded a MEDAL for finishing in fifth place overall.

 Chicago Northside QUALIFIED for the IHSA State Track and Field Championships for the TENTH year in a row!!   

 On Tuesday, May 16, 2017, Northside Head Coach Jon Gordon traveled to St. Ignatius College Prep in Chicago, Illinois for the IHSA Boys Sectional Seed Meeting.

 St. Ignatius hosted the 2017 IHSA Sectional Seed Meeting, and provided Food and beverages for all of the visiting coaches.

 The IHSA announced at the Seed meeting that Steve Battle will be the Head Starter. Battle finished second in State in the Long Jump during his high school career, and has also served as an IHSA Official at the Eric Nelson Classic.

 The IHSA also named Jacklyn Slaughter as the Assistant Starter. Clifford Pensyl was named the meet referee.

 Northside Head Coach Jon Gordon, Lane Tech Head Coach Kris Roof, Taft Head Coach James Bleicher, and St. Ignatius Head Coach Ed Ernst were named to the Games Committee.

 The highlight of the Seed Meeting, included Norhside Sophomore Osazee Osaghae being ranked as #2 in BOTH the 100m Dash and 200m Dash in the entire sectional. The Top two times in every running event automatically qualify for STATE. Athletes can also qualify for STATE by running an automatic qualifying time.

 Northside will also be seeking to qualify additional athletes for the IHSA State Track and Field Championships in the 4x100m Relay, 4x200m Relay, 1600m, and 3200m.

 Northside is also in excellent position to score TEAM points in the majority of the events, going into the IHSA Sectional meet. The Top 6 athletes or relays score points in each event. Medals are awarded for places first through sixth.

 The Northside Varsity Men will depart from Northside at 12:50 pm to travel to Concordia University on Friday, May 19, 2017 for the IHSA Sectional Championship Meet.

 Electronic devices rules apply. No music, headphones, or cell phones in the infield of the Track or competition area.

 Athletes must stay off the track infield and outside of the area of competition until it is time to check-in for their event. Athletes must warm-up outside of the Track.

 On Saturday, May 6, 2017, the Northside Varsity Men and Sophomore Boys traveled to Hanson Stadium for the Chicago Public League Championships.

 In the Sophomore 100m Dash, Northside Sophomore Osazee Osaghae WON the 100m dash with a personal best time of 11.05. Osazee Osaghae is the first Northside athlete to WIN the City Title in the 100m dash. It was also the second fastest time in Northside history! Osazee Osaghae was awarded a Blue Ribbon for finishing in first place! Osazee Osaghae will race Walter Payton Senior Myles Davis, the Varsity City Champion in the 100m Dash, at the IHSA Class 3A St. Ignatius Sectional, on Friday, May 19, 2017. The Winner will go on to the IHSA State Championships on Friday, May 26, 2017.

 In the Sophomore 200m Dash, Northside Sophomore Osazee Osaghae WON the 200m dash with an outstanding time of 22.69. Osazee Osaghae is the first Northside athlete to WIN the City Title in the 200m dash. Osazee Osaghae is also ranked second on the Northside All Time list in the 200m dash. Osazee Osaghae was awarded a Blue Ribbon for finishing in first place!

 In the Sophomore 4x800m Relay, Northside Sophomore John Kim, Freshman Jalen Miron, Sophomore Ian Shimandle, and Freshman Marcus Zinke finished in fifth place.

 In the Sophomore 4x400m Relay, Northside Sophomore John Kim, Freshman Sucith Karri, Freshman Jeronimo Najarro, and Freshman Marcus Zinke finished in eighth place to complete the scoring.

 In the Sophomore 300m Hurdles, Northside Freshman Josh Burns finished in eighth place to earn All City Honors!

 In the Sophomore High Jump, Northside Freshman Marcus Zinke finished in sixth place with a leap of 5'0.

 In the Sophomore Long Jump, Northside Freshman Chris Jackson finished in fourth place with an outstanding jump of 18'2.50.

 In the Varsity 3200m run, Northside Senior Kyle Friedler finished in SECOND place in the 3200m run with an outstanding time of 9:48.08. Kyle Friedler was awarded a MEDAL for finishing in second place overall. Only three athletes in Northside history have finished in the Top 2 in the 3200m run, John Krumsee (2003), Cuitlahuac Pineda Youniss (2009), and Kyle Friedler (2017).

 In the Varsity 4x200m Relay, Northside Junior Nick Brown, Senior Brandon Banas, Junior Gabe Piechnik, and Junior Guy Lohoua finished in fifth place. Nick Brown, Brandon Banas, Gabe Piechnik, and Guy Lohoua were awarded MEDALS for finishing in fifth place overall.
