On Saturday, February 13, 2010, the Northside Sophomore Track & Field Team attempted to travel to Chicago Heights, Illinois for the 2010 Lonnell Poole Invitational. Many Northside parents also made the journey to Chicago Heights, Illinois only to find that the Team wasn't there when they arrived. Several Northside parents took off work, and canceled vacation plans to see their children compete at this meet, and it did not happen.

For the second consecutive week, Jewel Bus company showed up an hour late for pick-up, and then the bus broke down five times, and another bus had to come pick-up the Team stranded on the highway, and take the Team to the meet. The bus was clearly not safe for the Team to ride to Chicago Heights, Illinois.

By time the Sophomore Team bus made it to the meet, many athletes missed their events. This is the second consecutive week that this has happened to the Northside Track & Field Team. The Northside Coaching staff submited their bus requests in December 2009, and calls to confirm that the bus will be on time, the day before every departure, and Jewel bus company still does not show up. The Northside administration is looking into getting the Northside Track & Field Team a new bus company.

In the 3200m run, Sophomore Joseph Smith, Freshman Calvin Gang, and Sophomore Pedro Juarez did not get to run because the bus did not make it to Bloom High School until after the 3200m run had finished. The Northside coaching staff had to take the Varsity athletes by car to get to the meet in time for them to run.

In the High Jump, Freshman Nathaniel Agharese, Sophomore Daniel Swanson-Nystrom, and Sophomore Josh Williams were not able to start the competition at the starting height, because the bus did not make it to Bloom High School until the bar was at 5'4, and there was also only one Sophomore-Freshman athlete remaining in the competition. Athletes from 16 Teams had already been eliminated from the competition at previous heights. Prior to the meet, Nathaniel, Daniel, and Josh had never cleared 5'4, but that was the height they had to come in at because of the bus problems. Nathaniel Agharse personal record is 5'0, and he made three outstanding attempts at 5'4, but was unable to clear it. Daniel Swanson-Nystrom also made three outstanding attempts at 5'4, but was unable to clear it. Josh Williams made two outstanding attempts at 5'4, and then on his final attempt he jumped a PERSONAL BEST 5'4 to place second overall in the High Jump! Josh Williams received a Medal for placing second overall.

In the Triple Jump, Sophomore Derek Lin placed fourth overall with an outstanding jump of 32'8.

In the Long Jump, Sophomore Derek Lin jumped 14'11.5. Sophomore Daniel Swanson-Nystrom jumped a personal best 13'5. Sophomore Josh Williams jumped 16'11.5.

In the Shot Put, Sophomore Ben Mauk threw a personal best 26'8. Sophomore Joseph Smith threw a personal best 26'4.25.

In the 4x800m Relay, Northside Sophomore Jusuf Skelic ran an 800m split of 2:20.77 on the first leg of the relay. Sophomore Dan Graham ran an 800m split of 2:34.93 on the second leg of the relay. Sophomore Pat Duffy anchored the Mustangs to second place overall with an 800m split 2:23.88 for a total time of 9:54.67. Jusuf Skelic, Dan Graham, Josh Williams, and Pat Duffy were awarded medals for placing second overall.

In the 55m High Hurdles, Sophomore Derek Lin ran an outstanding time of 10.71. Sophomore Luis Mesa ran an outstanding time of 11.67.

In the 55m Dash, Freshman Nathaniel Agharese had a bad start, and came from behind to win his heat with an outstanding time of 7.33. Luis Mesa ran an outstanding time of 7.89.

In the 800m run, Freshman Calvin Gang ran a personal best time of 2:41.

In the 4x200m Relay, Northside Freshman Chaojie Gonzalez ran a 200m split of 28.00 on the first leg of the relay. Northside Freshman Brandon Licuanan ran a 200m split of 31.13 on the second leg of the relay. Northside Sophomore Joseph Smith ran a 200m split of 29.66 on the third leg of the relay.
