 On Tuesday, May 18, 2010, Northside Head Coach Jon Gordon, Associate Coach Joseph Hetland, Throws Coach Chuck Milbert, and Assistant Jumps Coach Jose Nebrida traveled to Wilmette, Illinois to Loyola Academy for the 2010 IHSA Sectional seed meeting. The Loyola Academy Coaching staff were excellent hosts. The Northside Coaching staff received a tour of the Track, and were treated to a full course catered meal, and drinks.

 IHSA Official William Drennan was named the starter for the Sectional Championships, along with IHSA Officials Lawrence Genge, and E. Herbet Newman.

 Northside Head Coach Jon Gordon was named to the IHSA Sectional Games Committee along with Loyola Athletic Director Frank Amato, Glenbrook North Head Coach Matt Purdy, Evanston Head Coach Don Michelin, and Hersey Head Coach Ken Blazek.

 The opening height for High Jump will be 5'9, and the opening height for Pole Vault will be 11'3.

 Northside Coaches were excited to learn on Tuesday evening, that Northside Junior Wesley Laytham made the fast heat in the 800m run (2:00.72) with the #5 seed overall. It was also disclosed at the seed meeting that only one athlete (Zak Avila, Glenbrook South) has run the automatic qualifying time this season. The difference between the #2 seed (1:58.84) and the #5 seed (2:00.72) is less than 1.87 seconds. If Laytham finishes in the top 2 in the Sectional, he would automatically qualify for the IHSA State Championships.

 Additional athletes in the 800m run include: Glenbrook North Junior David Baker (2:05.24), New Trier Sophomore Eric Underwood (2:04.24), Loyola Academy Senior Clark Gapen (2:05.08), New Trier Senior Joseph Frank (2:03.84), Notre Dame Junior Todd Brady (2:05.94), Loyola Academy Junior Tom Beddome (2:04.90), Glenbrook South Senior Bobby Mette (2:03.84), Evanston Sophomore Aaron Mann (2:05.24), Niles West Sophomore Marc Julien (2:04.74), and Niles North Senior Alvin Thomas (2:03.54). 

 Northside Senior Cooper Eben (9:58.80) is also seeded in the fast heat of the 3200m run.

 Northside Senior Andrew Czyszczon is seeded in the first heat of the 110m Hurdle Preliminaries, and Northside Junior Hersh Perlmutter is seeded in the second heat of the 110m Hurdle Preliminaries.

 Northside Senior Neal Capapas is seeded in the third heat of the 100m Dash Preliminaries, and Northside Freshman Nathanial Agharese is seeded in the fourth heat of the 100m Dash Preliminaries.

 Northside Sophomore Mac Melto has the fastest 400m seed time for a Sophomore in the entire Sectional (52.76), and is in the third heat of the 400m Dash finals.

 Northside Sophomore Luis Mesa is seeded in the first heat of the 300m Hurdle Finals, and Northside Junior Hersh Perlmutter is seeded in the second heat of the 300m Hurdle Finals.

 Northside Senior Neal Capapas is seeded in the third heat of the 200m Dash Preliminaries, and Northside Freshman Nathaniel Agharese is seeded in the fourth heat of the 200m Dash Preliminaries.

 The IHSA Sectional Championships will take place on Thursday, May 20, 2010, at Loyola Academy in Wilmette, Illinois. Northside will leave for the IHSA Sectional Championships at 12:45 pm.

Mustangs 175 lbs Bench Press Club: Joseph Smith

On Friday, April 1, 2011, Northside Junior Joseph Smith became the newest member of the 175 Lbs Bench Press Club! To become a member of the 175 lbs Bench Press Club, an athlete has to bench press 175 lbs six consecutive times. The following athletes have earned a 175 lbs Bench Press Club T-shirt, by Bench Pressing 175 lbs. six or more consecutive times: 1. Joseph Smith 2. Wesley Laytham 3. Andrew Czyszczon 4.  On Saturday, May 8, 2010, the Northside Varsity Men traveled to Hanson Stadium for the Chicago Public League Conference Championships. The CPS Varsity City Championship series, started on Wednesday, May 5, 2010 with prelims, and ended with finals on Saturday, May 8, 2010. It is one of the largest high school conference meets in the U.S.

  The meet featured non-stop action on the Track. The point scale used for individual events and relays was 10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1. The top eight athletes in each event were awarded medals, and earned All Conference honors.

  In the High Jump, Lane Tech Senior Adem Kljako won it with a jump of 6'0. Mather Junior Kenneth Murphy finished in second place with a jump of 6'0. SCA Junior Devonte Elzy finished in third with a jump of 5'10. Manly Senior Daniel McCurty finished in fourth with a jump of 5'10. Kenwood Academy Senior Brock Massie finished in fifth place with a jump of 5'10. Lane Tech Junior Mark Brand and Jones College Prep Junior Jerome Rhodes tied for sixth place with a jump of 5'8. Whitney Young Senior Stephan Devroe completed the scoring by placing eighth with a jump of 5'8. Northside Senior Hunter Speese cleared 5'6, and made three outstanding attempts at 5'8.

  In the 4x800m Relay, Lake View won it with a time of 8:31.80. Northside finished in ninth place with an official time of 9:03.34. Northside Sophomore Ezra Edgerton ran a 2:11.59 800m split on the first leg of the relay, and made a nice exchange to Sophomore Jusuf Skelic. Jusuf Skelic ran a 2:18.40 800m split on the second leg of the relay, and made a nice exchange to Sophomore Dan Graham. Dan Graham ran a 2:22.10 800m split on the third leg of the relay, and made a nice exchange to Sophomore Pat Duffy. Pat Duffy ran a 2:10.92 800m split to anchor the Mustangs to ninth place, with an official time of 9:03.34.  

  In the 3200m run, Roosevelt Sophomore Jeffery Rector won it with a personal best time of 9:48.09. Lane Tech Senior Kulaifi Haji finished in second place with an outstanding time of 9:48.81. Payton Senior Jose Mora finished in third place with a time of 9:58.75. Mather Sophomore Abe Haji finished in fourth place with a time of 10:02.99. Northside Senior Cooper Eben finished in fifth place with an outstanding time of 10:04.32. Cooper Eben ran the first mile in 4:58, and the final mile in 5:06 for an official time of 10:04.32. Cooper Eben was awarded a MEDAL for placing fifth overall. Mather Sophomore Juan Mendez finished sixth overall with a time of 10:08.96. Lane Tech Sophmore Lucas Beltran finished seventh overall with a time of 10:23.90. Whitney Young Sophomore Sam Barder completed the scoring by finishing in eighth place with a time of 10:36.87. Northside Junior Erik Zuehlke ran a PERSONAL BEST time of 10:44.21. Erik Zuehlke ran the first mile in 5:14, and the final mile in 5:30 for a personal best time of 10:44.21.

 In the 800m run, although the race went out in only sixty seconds, it was one of the most exciting races of the day. The race featured multiple lead changes, with Lane Tech Sophomore David Timlin, Northside Junior Wesley Laytham, and Lane Tech Dylan Allingham each making a surge with the lead during the final 500m. Lane Tech Junior Dylan Allingham won it with an outstanding time of 2:01.56. Northside Junior Wesley Laytham finished in second place with an official time of 2:02.00. Wesley Laytham was awarded a MEDAL for placing second overall. Lane Tech Sophomore David Timlin finished in third place with a time of 2:04. Roosevelt Sophomore Jeffery Rector finished in fourth place with an outstanding time of 2:07.31. Lake View Senior Sergio Navas finished in fifth place with a time of 2:07.35. Kelly Sophomore Enrique Florentino finished in sixth place with a time of 2:07.51. Northside Sophomore Pat Duffy ran a PERSONAL BEST time of 2:08.98 to place seventh overall. Pat Duffy was awarded a MEDAL for placing seventh overall. Payton Senior Justin Speller completed the scoring by finishing in eighth place with an official time of 2:09.75.

 In the 1600m run, Lane Tech Senior Kulayifi Haji won it with an official time of 4:32.92. Lake View Junior Oscar Medina finished in second place with a time of 4:35.41. Payton Senior Jose Mora finished in third place with a time of 4:38.64. Roosevelt Sophomore Jeffery Rector finished in fourth place with a time of 4:40.60. Lake View Sophomore Eduardo Chavez finished in fifth place with an outstanding time of 4:43.94. Northside Junior Charlie Mesimore finished in sixth place with an outstanding time of 4:47.50. Charlie Mesimore ran the first 400m in 67 seconds, and then ran the next 400m in 72 seconds for an 800m split of 2:19, and then ran the next 400m in 75 seconds for a 1200m split of 3:34, and then ran the final 400m in a NEGATIVE SPLIT of 73 seconds for an outstanding time of 4:47.50. Charlie Mesimore was awarded a Medal for placing sixth overall. Mather Sophomore Juan Mendez finished in seventh place with an official time of 4:49.78. Kenwood Academy Junior Joseph Laseter finished in eigth place to complete the scoring with a time of 4:50.75.
