 On Saturday, April 2, 2011, the Northside Varsity Men, and Sophomore-Freshman Boys traveled to Harper College Track & Field Stadium in Palatine, Illinois for the St. Viator Inviational.

 Northside had a big day, including several unexpected performances to help upset IHSA Sectional rival St. Viator by a score of 127-119 to WIN the Invitational!

 Northside had a record of 6-0 on the day, and is undefeated during the outdoor season (12-0). Northside posted victories over 2. St. Viator (119 points), 3. Montini (108 points), 4. Perspectives Calumet (68 points), 5. Immaculate Conception (35 points), 6. Christian Liberty (15 points), and 7. Guerin (7 points).

 Since the Spartan Indoor Classic, Northside has a record 47-3!!! Northside has its best record in the history of the program.

 The St. Viator Invitational was scored on the following point scale for individual events: 10-8-6-4-2-1 and 10-8-6-4-2 for Relays. Gold Medals were awarded for first place. Silver Medals were awarded for second place. Bronze Medals were awarded for third place. The Northside Mustangs brought home a record number of medals.   

 In the Open Mile, Northside Sophomore Brendan Kelly won it with a time of 5:59. Northside Freshman Henry Lothschutz ran a time of 6:14. Northside Freshman Angelo Perez ran a time of 6:17. Northside Sophomore Andy Voung ran a time of 6:31. Northside Freshman Andrew Donchak ran a time of 7:16. Northside Freshman David Huang ran a time of 7:18. Northside Open Milers, Junior Alexander Seibt, Freshman Darek Duplaga, Sophomore Alex Bologna, and Freshman Christian La Luz missed the meet.

 All of the Northside athletes qualified for the finals in the 110m High Hurdles and the 100m Dash.

 In the Varsity 110m High Hurlde Semi-Finals, Northside Senior Hersh Perlmutter qualified for the finals by placing third in his heat with an outstanding time of 16.41. Freshman Walter Johnson-Geis qualified for the finals by also placing third in his heat with a personal best time of 20.72.

 In the Varsity 100m Dash Semi-Finals, Northside Junior Mac Melto qualified for the finals by winning his heat with an outstanding time of 11.36. Northside Sophomore Nathaniel Agherese qualified for the finals by placing second in his heat with an outstanding time of 11.63.

 The Varsity Discus competition was canceled due to a flooded Discus cage. 

 In the Varsity Shot Put, Perspectives Calumet Eric Johnson won it with a throw of 42'50. Immaculate Conception's Abradessa finished in second place with a throw of 40'7. Montini's Powers finished in third place with a throw of 38'1. Perspectives Calumet Mike Fort finished in fourth place with a throw of 37'10. Montini's Nitti finished in fifth place with a throw of 37'9.5. Perspectives Calumet Armani Brie finished in sixth place to complete the scoring with a throw of 37'7. Northside Senior Allen Tu threw a personal best 33'3. Northside Senior Ottmar Flores threw 28'3.75. Northside Junior Joseph Smith threw a personal best 27'7.

 In the Sophomore-Freshman Shot Put, Northside Sophomore Alex Park threw a personal best 31'5 to finish in second place overall. Northside Sophomore Kapil Garg threw a personal best 28'11 to finish in third place overall.

 In the Varsity Long Jump, Northside Junior Josh Williams won it with a jump of 17'6.5.

 In the Varsity High Jump, Northside Junior Josh Williams finished in fourth place with a jump of 5'4.

 In the Varsity Triple Jump, Northside Junior Josh Williams finished in second place with a jump of 35'6.

 In the Varsity 4x800m Relay, Northside finished in second place with an official time of 9:19.26.

 In the Varsity 4x100m Relay, Freshman Walter Johnson-Geis ran a 12.95 100m split on the first leg of the relay. Northside Senior Ottmat Flores ran a 12.91 100m split on the second leg of the relay. Northside Senior Andres Delgado ran a 14.90 100m split on the third leg of the relay. Northside Junior Joseph Smith ran a 12.60 100m split, to anchor the Mustangs to sixth place with an official time of 53.36

 In the Varsity 3200m run, Northside Freshman Cesar Rufino DROPPED 6 SECONDS for a personal best time of 11:18.26 to place third overall. Cesar Rufino was awarded a Medal for placing third overall. Cesar Rufino ran the first mile in 5:29, and then ran the final mile in 5:49 for a personal best time of 11:18.26. Northside Senior Luis Gaytan ran an official time of 12:44.15.

 In the Sophomore-Freshman 3200m run, Northside Freshman Alex Gordon DROPPED 4 SECONDS for a personal best time of 12:36.23 to place third overall.

 In the Varsity 110m Hurdles Finals, Northside Senior Hersh Perlmutter finished in second place overall with an outstanding time of 16.87. Northside Freshman Walter Johnson-Geis finished in sixth place to complete the scoring with an outstanding time of 21.22.

 In the Sophomore-Freshman 110m Hurdles Finals, Northside Freshman Truman Brady finished in fourth place with an outstanding time of 24.82. 

 In the Varsity 100m Dash Finals, Northside Junior Mac Melto finished in second place with an official time of 11.32. Mac Melto was awarded a Medal for placing second overall. Northside Sophomore Nathaniel Agharese finished in fourth place with an official time of 11.38.

 In the Sophomore-Freshman 100m Dash Finals, Northside Freshman Karl Heinz finished in third place with an outstanding time of 13.31.

 In the Varsity 800m run, Northside Senior Wesley Laytham won it with an official time of 2:09.70. Northside Junior Pat Duffy finished in fourth place with an official time of 2:21.21.

 In the Sophomore-Freshman 800m run, Northside Sophomore Calvin Gang finished in third place with a personal best time of 2:24.89.

 In the Varsity 4x200m Relay, Northside Senior Andres Delgado ran a 28.06 200m split on the first leg of the relay. Northside Freshman Walter Johnson-Geis ran a 27.61 200m split on the second leg of the relay. Northside Senior Ottmar Flores ran a 29.28 200m split on the third leg of the relay. Northside Senior Joseph Smith anchored the Mustangs to fifth place, with a 28.11 200m split, for an official time of 1:53.06.

 In the Varsity 400m run, Northside Junior Mac Melto WON it with an official time of 52.30. Mac Melto was awarded a Medal for finishing in first place overall. Northside Sophomore Nathaniel Agharese finished in second place with a personal best time of 53.60. Nathaniel Agharese was awarded a Medal for finishing in second place overall. Northside scored 18 points in the 400m run!!! 

 In the Sophomore-Freshman 400m run, Northside Freshman Robert Szmurlo finished in second place with a personal best time of 63.53.

 In the Varsity 300m Hurdles, Northside Senior Hersh Perlmutter finished in third place with an outstanding time of 46.03. Perlmutter DROPPED two seconds from the Eric Nelson Track & Field Classic! Hersh Perlmutter was awarded a medal for placing third overall. Northside Freshman Lucien Fitzpatrick finished in fourth place with a personal best time of 47.25.

 In the Sophomore-Freshman 300m Hurdles, Northside Freshman Alex Theidmann finished in fourth place overall with a personal best time of 59.79.

 In the Varsity 1600m run, Northside Junior Dan Graham had very little sleep on Friday night due to Junior Prom. Despite the lack of sleep, Dan Graham WON it with a personal best time of 5:04.40. Dan Graham ran the first 800m in 2:32, and then ran the final 800m in an EVEN SPLIT of 2:32 for a personal best time of 5:04.40. Dan Graham was awarded a Medal for placing first overall. Northside Freshman Cesar Rufino ran an outstanding time of 5:24.16. Cesar Rufino ran the first 800m in 2:30, and then ran the final 800m in 2:54 for an outstanding time of 5:24.16.

 In the Sophomore-Freshman 1600m run, Sophomore-Freshman Patrick Brennan ran the first 800m in 2:42, and then ran the final 800m in a NEGATIVE SPLIT of 2:41 to place second overall with an outstanding time of 5:23.89.

 In the Varsity 200m Dash, Northside Sophomore Nathaniel Agharese BROKE THE SCHOOL RECORD with a personal best time of 23.16 to place third overall! Nathaniel Agharese was awarded a Medal for placing third overall. Nathaniel Agharese was also honored in practice on Monday with a Watermelon for breaking the school record! 

 In the Sophomore-Freshman 200m Dash, Northside Freshman Karl Heinz finished third overall with an outstanding time of 27.51

 In the Varsity 4x400m Relay, Northside WON it by 8 seconds with an official time of 3:40.39!!! Northside Junior Pat Duffy ran a 57.77 400m split on the first leg of the relay, and made a perfect exchange to Northside Junior Josh Williams. Josh Williams ran a 55.45 400m split on the second leg of the relay, and made a perfect exchange to Northside Senior Wesley Laytham. Northside Senior Wesley Laytham ran a 54.23 400m split on the third leg of the relay, and made a perfect exchange to Northside Junior Mac Melto. Mac Melto anchored the Mustangs to Victory, with a 52.90 400m split, for an official time of 3:40.39. Calumet Perspectives finished in second place with an official time of 3:48.50. St. Viator finished in third place with a time of 3:50.90. Montini finished in fourth place with a time of 3:58.80. Immaculate Conception completed the scoring by placing fifth in the 4x400m relay with an official time of 4:03.3. Pat Duffy, Josh Williams, Wesley Laytham, and Mac Melto were awarded Gold Medals for placing first overall!

 After a big win over IHSA Sectional rival St. Viator, the Northside Mustangs will travel to Skokie, Illinois on Saturday, April 9, 2011 for the Paul Gans Varsity Invitational, and the Fred Zeedyk Sophomore-Freshman Invitational! The Paul Gans and Fred Zeedyk Invitationals feature IHSA Sectional rivals Niles West, Mather, and Illinois foes Antoch, Fenwick, Plainfield East, Yorkville, Metea Valley, Rich Central, Huntley, and Urbana.
