 On Wednesday, May 4, 2011, the Northside Men's Track & Field TEAM traveled to Hanson Stadium in Chicago, Illinois for the CPS Varsity Prelims!

 As the Northside bus pulled up to Hanson Stadium, Northside Head Coach Jon Gordon talked to the TEAM about the best race coming from "within". Northside responded with a record number of qualifiers for the Chicago Public League Championships.

 Northside QUALIFIED the third most athletes in the Chicago Public League for the FINALS, including the 3200m run (2), 4x800m Relay (8), 100m Dash (1), 110m Hurdles (1), Long Jump (1), Triple Jump (1), 800m (2), 400m run (1), 1600m run (1) and 4x400m Relay (8).

  In the Long Jump, Northside Junior Josh Williams BROKE THE SCHOOL RECORD with a jump of 20'10.75. Josh Williams is currently in fourth place, and will get three more jumps on Saturday! Josh Williams will be honored in practice on Thursday with a Watermelon for breaking the school record in the Long Jump! 

 In the Triple Jump, Northside Junior Josh Williams jumped a personal best 40'11.50. Josh Williams is currently in third place, and will get three more jumps on Saturday!

 In the Discus, Northside Senior Allen Tu threw a personal best of 93'10. Northside Senior Ottmar Flores threw 59'09.

 In the Shot Put, Northside Senior Allen Tu threw 31'10.

 In the 100m Preliminaries, Northside Junior Mac Melto ran an outstanding time of 11.07 to advance to the semi-finals. Northside Sophomore Nathanial Agharese ran an outstanding time of 11.47 to advance to the semi-finals.

 In the 200m Preliminaries, Northside Sophomore Nathaniel Agharese ran an outstanding time of 23.52.

 In the 4x800m Relay, Northside Senior Charlie Mesimore ran the first 400m in 63 seconds, and then ran the final 400m in 67 seconds for a 2:10.89 800m split, and made a perfect exchange to Northside Senior Erik Zuehlke. Erik Zuehlke ran a 2:17.85 800m split, and made a nice exchange to Northside Junior Dan Graham. Dan Graham ran a 2:15.18 800m split, and made a nice exchange to Ezra Edgerton. Ezra Edgerton ran a 2:19.71 800m split, to anchor the Mustangs to eighth overall, and QUALIFIED for the FINALS with an official time of 9:03.63.

 In the 4x100m Relay, Northside finished in 12th place in the prelims with an outstanding time of 45.37.

 In the 110m Hurdles, Northside Senior Hersh Perlmutter QUALIFIED for the finals with an outstanding time of 16.59.

 In the 100m Dash, Northside Junior Mac Melto QUALIFIED for the finals with an outstanding time of 11.15. Northside Sophomore Nathaniel Agharese ran an outstanding time of 11.51.

 In the 800m run, Northside Senior Wesley Laytham won his heat to QUALIFY for the finals with an outstanding time of 2:00.16. Laytham ran the fastest time in the prelims! Northside Junior Pat Duffy QUALIFED for the finals with an outstanding time of 2:06.69.

 The 4x200m Relay, was scratched due to Andres Delgado and Joseph Smith missing the meet.

 In the 400m run, Northside Junior Mac Melto won his heat to QUALIFY for the finals with an outstanding time of 49.88. Melto ran the fastest time in the prelims! Northside Junior Dan Graham ran a personal best time of 55.63

 In the 300m Hurdles, Northside Junior Hersh Perlmutter ran an outstanding time of 44.89.

 In the 1600m run, Northside Junior Ezra Edgerton DROPPED SEVEN SECONDS and ran a personal best time of 4:44.68 to QUALIFY for the finals. Ezra Edgerton ran the first 800m in 2:21, and then ran the final 800m in 2:23 for a personal best time of 4:44.68. Edgerton passed Northside Alumni legend Patrick O'Connor (4:48) and Jon Kittaka (4:45) on the All Time list in the 1600m run, in the same race with Jones College Prep phenom Luke O'Connor (4:42.39). Ezra Edgerton ran the first 400m in 71 seconds, and then ran a 400m split of 70 (2:21 800m), and then ran the next 400m in 75 seconds (3:36 1200m), and then ran the final 400m in a NEGATIVE SPLIT of 68 seconds for a personal best time of 4:44.68. Northside Senior Charlie Mesimore ran his first mile of the outdoor season with an outstanding time of 4:57.70. Charlie Mesimore ran the first 400m in 70 seconds, and then ran the next 400m in 75 seconds (2:25 800m), and then ran the next 400m in 78 seconds (3:43 1200m), and then made a great move to pass a runner in the final 400m with a NEGATIVE SPLIT of 74 seconds for an official time of 4:57.70

 In the 4x400m Relay, Northside WON their heat to QUALIFY for the Finals with an official time of 3:32.78. Northside Sophomore Nathaniel Agharese ran a 53.95 400m split on the first leg of the relay. Northside Junior Josh Williams ran a 53.69 400m split on the second leg of the relay. Northside Senior Wesley Laytham ran a 53.28 400m split on the third leg of the relay. Northside Junior Mac Melto anchored the Mustangs to victory, with a 51.09 400m, for an official time of 3:32.78.

 Northside is looking forward to the Outdoor Chicago Public League Championships on May 7, 2011 (Finals) at Hanson Stadium. 

 On Saturday, April 30, 2011, the Northside Sophomore-Freshman Track & Field Team traveled to Hanson Stadium in Chicago, Illinois for the Sophomore-Freshman PRELIMS for the Chicago Public League Championships!

 The Northside Mustangs qualified 17 athletes for the finals, including the 3200m run (2), 4x800m Relay (8), 110m Hurdles (1), 300m Hurdles (1), High Jump (2), Triple Jump (1), and Discus (2).

  In the Discus, Northside Freshman Henry Lothschutz QUALIFED for the finals with a personal best throw of 75'6. Henry Lothschutz came into the meet with a personal record of 58'6, and IMPROVED by a record 17'0! It was biggest single meet improvement in the history of the Chicago Public League! Lothschutz will get three more throws in the Finals on Friday, and has an outside chance to make the Mustangs IHSA Sectional roster. Northside Sophomore Ifeanyichu Ndukwu also QUALIFED for the finals with a personal best throw of 69'6.5. Ndukwu improved by over 3'0! Lothschutz and Ndukwu will be seeking All City Honors on Friday by placing in the top eight.

 In the Shot Put, Northside Sophomore Ifeanyichu Ndukwu threw an outstanding 27'09.5. Northside Freshman Henry Lothshutz threw an outstanding 25'11.

 In the High Jump, Northside Freshman Lucien Fitzpatrick and Louis Koll both cleared 5'2 with no misses, and QUALIFIED for the finals. The competition was stopped at 5'2 because the size of the field had reached the requirement of 12 athletes for the finals. Fitzpatrick and Koll are both contenders for the Sophomore-Freshman City Title in the High Jump!

 In the Long Jump, Northside Freshman Alex Theidmann jumped a personal record of 13'8.50. Alex Theidmann improved by 0'5.0! Northside Freshman Truman Brady had his BEST meet of the season. Truman Brady jumped a personal record of 13'6. Brady improved by an outstanding 1'1.5!

 In the Triple Jump, Northside Freshman Louis Koll QUALIFED for the finals in his second consecutive event of the day! Louis Koll jumped 32'6.5! Northside Freshman Jay Yu just missed qualifying for the finals by one place, with an outstanding jump of 29'8.5!

 In the 100m Preliminaries, Northside Freshman Karl Heinz ran a time of 14.06. Northside Freshman Jay Yu was disqualifed for a false start.

 In the 4x800m Relay, Northside QUALIFIED by placing second in their heat, and sixth overall with an official time of 9:43.17. Northside Sophomore Patrick Brennan ran the first 400m in 74 seconds, and then ran the final 400m in a NEGATIVE SPLIT of 72 seconds for an 800m split of 2:26.73. Brennan made an excellent exchange to Sophomore Calvin Gang. Calvin Gang ran the second leg of the 4x800m relay with an 800m split of 2:26.68, and made a nice exchange to Freshman Cesar Rufino. Cesar Rufino ran an impressive 2:21.66 800m split on the third leg of the relay, and made a nice exchange to Freshman Robert Szmurlo. Freshman Robert Szmurlo anchored the Mustangs to second in their heat, and sixth overall with a 2:27.57 800m split, for an official time of 9:43.17. Alternates Joel Deleon, Henry Tankus, Andy Voung, and Brendan Kelly also qualify for the Finals on Friday, May 6, 2011.

 In the 4x100m Relay, Northside Freshman Jay Yu ran an outstanding 100m split of 12.70 on the first leg of the relay, and made a nice exchange to Freshman Angelo Perez. Angelo Perez ran a 14.22 100m split on the second leg of the relay, and made an exchange to Freshman Andrew Donchak. Andrew Donchak ran a 16.71 100m split on the third leg of the relay, and made a nice exchange to Freshman Karl Heinz. Karl Heinz ran an outstanding 12.03 100m split, to anchor the Mustangs to an official time of 56.16.

 In the 110m Hurdles Semis, Northside Freshman Lucien Fitzpatrick WON his heat to QUALIFY for the finals with an outstanding time of 18.45.

 In the 800m run, Northside Sophomore Calvin Gang ran a time of 2:28. Northside Freshman Joel Deleon ran a time of 2:31.

 In the 4x200m Relay, Northside Freshman Louis Koll ran an impressive 24.80 200m split on the first leg of the relay. Northside Freshman Jay Yu ran a 30.97 200m split on the second leg of the relay. Northside Sophomore Andy Voung ran a 29.12 200m split on the third leg of the relay. Northside Freshman Karl Heinz ran a 27.97 200m split, to anchor the Mustangs to an official time of 1:52.86.

 In the 400m run, Northside Sophomore Alex Bologna ran a time of 70.54.

 In the 300m Hurdles, Northside Freshman Lucien Fitzpatrick QUALIFIED for the Finals with a PERSONAL BEST time of 46.94.

 In the 1600m run, Northside Freshman Cesar Rufino ran a time of 5:26. Northside Sophomore Patrick Brennan ran a time of 5:29.

 In the 200m Semis, Northside Freshman Karl Heinz was third in his heat, with a time of 29.24. Northside Freshman Christian La Luz ran a time of 32.95.

 In the 4x400m Relay, Northside Freshman Louis Koll ran a 59.09 400m split on the first leg of the relay. Northside Freshman Joel Deleon ran a 66.24 400m split on the second leg of the relay. Northside Freshman Robert Szmurlo ran a 64.03 400m split on the third leg of the relay. Northside Freshman Lucien Fitzpatrick anchored the Mustangs with a 59.69 400m split, for an official time of 4:09.71.

 The Sophomore-Freshman Chicago Public League Finals will take place at Hanson Stadium, on Friday, May 6, 2011, at 3 pm. The Mustangs will depart from Northside at 2:10 pm for the Sophomore-Freshman Chicago Public League Championships!
