News and Announcements

On Friday, January 13, 2012, at 3:29 PM, the Northside College Prep Track & Field Team will have a Track & Field Registration Meeting in the Northside Cafeteria. The purpose of the meeting will be to introduce the finest coaching staff ever assembled, and more importantly, disclose exciting plans for the 2012 season that will make your Track & Field experience more FUN.

The Northside Men’s Track & Field Team has qualified athletes to the State Championships for four consecutive years! Last year, one of the most exciting moments we shared as a TEAM was cheering on Mac Melto, at IHSA Sectionals, as he ran a school record 48.78 400m run to qualify for the IHSA State Championships!!!

At the State Championships, Mac Melto earned All State honors in the 400m run to reach the Medal stand and help Northside post upset victories over both Palatine High School and rival Lane Tech in the State Championships!!!

The Northside sprinters were incredible in 2011, breaking the school record in the 100m Dash, 200m Dash, 400m run, 4x100m Relay, and 4x400m Relay!

The Northside distance runners were also awesome in 2011, breaking the school record in the 4x800m Relay, 800m run, and the Mile!

In 2011, Northside Captain Josh Williams became the first Northside athlete to break the 20'0 barrier in the Long Jump! He is currently ranked among the best in the State. Freshman, Sophomores, and new members of the TEAM, please pay close attention to this paragraph. Josh Williams scored only one point for the Mustangs as a Freshman. Last year, as a Junior, he led the TEAM in scoring with 167.25 points!! Many Track & Field athletes do not realize how much they will improve and develop simply by making the sacerfices to be an athlete, by coming to practice every day and working hard. We have the finest Track & Field Coaching staff ever assembled, including members of the Hall of Fame, and Former NCAA Division I, II, and III athletes. We also have the hardest working athletes in Illinois for you to train with everyday. We also have some of the greatest Team Captains in Northside history!! If you make the commitment, and put in the time and effort, you will see incredible results.

Including relays, 21 School Records were broken during the 2011 season. It was the highest number of SCHOOL RECORDS BROKEN by any TEAM in Illinois in 2011.

The Northside Men finished in second place in the Indoor City Championships to Simeon in 2011. It was the highest finish in the history of the program. Northside will contend for the Boys Indoor and Outdoor Varsity City Track TEAM Titles in 2012.

More importantly, our goal is to bring home the first IHSA Sectional and State Title in any sport in Northside history! We are going to put the first IHSA Sectional and State Title banners on the GYM wall in 2012! Do you want to be a part of it? Start training now, our first practice will take place on Tuesday, January 17, 2012. Nike said it best, "Just do it!"

The key to contending for the State Title in 2012, will be having a strong Team concept, a specific purpose for every meet, Great communication between the athletes and coaching staff, and a personal motivation to improve and succeed. Without personal motivation, it is difficult to make the sacrifices and apply the dedication needed to become a Champion. You must know what you want to achieve and that is the first step toward reaching the top. Winning isn’t everything, but wanting to win is…You must “want it” and be willing to work very hard to achieve it. You must develop supreme confidence in yourself, and your own abilities. You must have determination to follow through, regardless of obstacles, criticism or circumstances or what other people say, think or do.

WHAT IF I HAVE NEVER COMPETED IN TRACK & FIELD BEFORE?

It doesn't matter if you have never competed in Track & Field in your life, we will make you great. Many Northside Sports (i.e. Cross Country, Soccer, Basketball, Golf) already prepare you for Track & Field. There are 18 events in a Track meet (100m Dash, 110m Hurdles, 4x100m Relay, 200m Dash, 4x200m Relay, 300m Hurdles, 400m, 4x400m Relay, 800m, 4x800m Relay, 1600m, 3200m), and its not just about running. There are 6 Field Events that require speed and strength. We need GREAT athletes for strength and technique events, including Jumping Events (Long Jump, Triple Jump, High Jump, Pole Vault) and Throwing Events (Shot Put, Discus). Every event is worth the same amount of points, and every athlete is vital to the success of the TEAM. The difference in winning a championship has come down to a single point on frequent occassions.
