Winter Training

Posted by Jon Gordon at Jan 7, 2012 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )
Pursuant to IHSA by-law 3.150 and its subparts.  Contact days for coaches and athletes are provided for in the summer only.  Having contact with potential Track and Field athletes at this time is a violation and will result in the ineligibility of all involved. As a result, Team Captains are in charge of all off-season training. Official Track practices will commence on January 17, 2012.

On Friday, January 13, 2012, Registration for Northside Track & Field TEAM will begin at 3:29 pm, in the Northside cafeteria. FREE T-shirts (while supplies last) will be distributed to ALL athletes that have all of their forms ready to turn in. After registration, a motivational TEAM meeting will take place in the Northside cafeteria. Please arrive early to Registration. Thanks.

The following forms must be turned in on January 13, 2012, in order to be eligible to attend practice:

(1) Physical,

(2) Players Record Card,

(3) ATI Physical Therapy Consent Form,

(4) IHSA Drug Testing Waiver Form,

(5) Code of Conduct Contract,

(6) Concussion Awareness Form.

If you have any trouble getting an appointment for a Physical, contact Northside Head Coach Jon Gordon at Jongordon9@aol.com, and he will refer you to a doctor. Physicals are only good for one year.

Friendly reminder, you need to turn in the above forms, including a new players record card for Track, even if you have already turned in the above forms in the Fall for another sport. Thanks.

After registration, practice will commence on Tuesday, January 17, 2012 from 3:45 pm - 5:45 pm.  All athletes should bring running shoes, and a Water bottle to practice. Distance runners must be prepared to train outside. Please bring a hat and gloves. If you have anything to place in storage during practice, please bring a combination lock. There will be no one available to hold any personal items during practice. Thanks.

Many athletes have covered hundreds of miles this winter, and spent hours in the weight room preparing to capture the Sectional and State Titles. We certainly hope that you too have been conscientious
about your winter training. Remember that in less than two weeks you must be in top condition for our first team practice. We want you to report to the first practice READY TO TRAIN.

No one will be cut from the Team until May 2012 (IHSA Sectional Roster) provided they work hard, and miss no more than 3 unexcused practices from January 17, 2012 through May 2012.

Athletes in basketball, wrestling, and swimming may join the Team when their respective season reaches a conclusion. Students in the musical, girls soccer, girls softball, boys volleyball, and boys and girls lacrosse will not be permitted to join the TEAM. Students who have Team manager obligations to another sport will not be permitted to join the Track TEAM. Athletes in baseball, tennis, and water polo will be allowed to join the TEAM for the Indoor season, and will be required to return to the Track Team when their respective season reaches a conclusion. Any other special circumstances need to be approved by the coaching staff in advance. Thanks.

Northside Track & Field is fun, and the experience is priceless. The most frequent question we have received from Freshman and New members of the Team is what if they don’t have any Track & Field experience? Start now. You are going to be a part of a team where your teammates care about you and depend on you. We will make you great!

The Northside Track & Field Parents and Athletes will be having a Pasta Party on Thursday, January 19, 2012, from 6:00 pm – 7:30 pm in the cafeteria. Villa Palermo Catering will provide the TEAM and PARENTS with Grilled Chicken Penne Pasta, Chicken Alfredo Pasta, Penne Pasta with Marinara, Fresh Bread, Garden Salad, and bottled water. All expenses are 100% paid by the Northside Track & Field Coaching staff.

The Pasta Party will be a great morale booster, and a TEAM / PARENTS meeting will take place at the Pasta Party. The meeting will provide the Northside parents an opportunity to meet the Track & Field coaching staff, learn about the Northside Track program, Proper running shoes, learn about the college recruiting process, and help us find volunteers to help with Team Tailgate parties and our home meet, the Eric Nelson Track & Field Classic on March 21, 2012.

The Northside Coaching staff will also be available after the meeting for any individual concerns or questions about the upcoming Track & Field season. Thanks.
