 On Wednesday, March 21, 2012, a preview of the IHSA Sectional 100m Final took place at Hanson Stadium with Kelvyn Park Senior Brian Carter, Northside Senior Mac Melto, Urban Prep West Junior Jamal Murphy, Kelvyn Park Junior Jamal McNeeley, and Northside Junior Nathanial Agharese.  

 The Class 2A Marshall Sectional features three All State athletes, with Brian Cater, Jamal McNeeley, and Mac Melto.

 There was a total of 40 entries in the 100m Dash at the Eric Nelson Track & Field Classic! 

 In the 100m Dash, Kelvyn Park Senior Brian Carter won it with an official time of 11.0. Northside Senior Mac Melto finished in second place with an official time of 11.11. Melto was awarded a silver medal for finishing in second place. Urban Prep Junior Jamal Murphy finished in third place with a personal best time of 11.24. Kelvyn Park Junior Jamal McNeeley finished in fourth place with an official time of 11.62. Northside Junior Nathaniel Agharese finished in fifth place with an official time of 11.68. Nathaniel Agharese was awarded a ribbon for finishing in fifth place. Taft Senior George Vidas finished in sixth place to complete the scoring with an official time of 11.92. Northside Senior Fabian Lara ran a personal best time of 12.68.

 The 800m run is named after Northside Alumni Wesley Laytham. In his Junior year, Wesley Laytham qualified in the 800m run for the IHSA State Championships. In his Senior year, Wesley Laytham broke the Northside School record in the 800m run with a 1:57.49 at the IHSA Sectional Championships. Wesley Laytham currently runs for NCAA Division I Davidson College in North Carolina. The top 6 athletes at the Eric Nelson Track & Field Classic in the Wesley Laytham 800m run receive a USA Track & Field Wesley Laytham 800m run plaque.

 In the Wesley Laytham 800m run, Roosevelt Senior Jeffrey Rector won it with an official time of 2:04.96. Northside Senior Dan Graham finished in SECOND place with a personal best open 800m time of 2:08.13. Dan Graham passed Northside all time greats Brandon Cooper (2:08.74), and Danny Garcia (2:08.61) on the Northside 800m All Time list! It was the seventh fastest open 800m time in the history of Northside! Dan Graham was also awarded a Silver Medal, and a USA Track & Field Wesley Laytham 800m run plaque for finishing in second place. Roosevelt Junior Mohammed Chota finished in third place with an official time of 2:12.21. Kelvyn Park Luis Baez finished in fourth place with an official time of 2:17.44. Chicago Bulls Prep Jorge Zamora finished in fifth place with an official time of 2:17.65. Chicago Bulls Prep David Arrayo finished in sixth place to complete the scoring with an official time of 2:21.09. Northside Sophomore Robert Szmurlo finished in seventh place with a time of 2:22.40. Northside Freshman Jack O'Donnell dropped 7 seconds and ran a personal best 800m time of 2:32.18.

 In the 4x200m Relay, Kelvyn Park Senior Brian Carter, Sophomore Brian Davis, Junior Devan Davis, and Junior Jamal McNeeley combined for an official time of 1:34.50 to win it. Urban Prep West finished in second place with an official time of 1:40.40. CICS-Ellison finished in third place with an official time of 1:40.46. Taft finished in fourth place with an official time of 1:41.50. Roosevelt finished in fifth place with an official time of 1:41.90. Chicago Bulls Prep finished in sixth place to complete the scoring with an official time of 1:51.16. Northside Sophomore Jay, Freshman Connor Fulton, Freshman Calvin Kuhnen, and Freshman Elijah Hernandez combined for an official time of 1:53.05 to finish in seventh place.

 The 400m run at the Eric Nelson Track & Field Classic is named after Northside Captain Mac Melto. In May 2011, Mac Melto, as a Junior, ran a school record 48.78 400m run to qualify for the IHSA State Track & Field Championships! At the State Championships, Mac Melto earned All State honors in the 400m run to reach the Medal stand and help Northside post upset victories over both Palatine High School and rival Lane Tech in the State Championships! Mac Melto was co-MVP of the 2011 Northside Track & Field Team. 

 In October 2011, Mac Melto helped Northside qualify for the IHSA State Cross Country Championships. Mac Melto was co-winner of the Northside Cross Country Most Improved Award and Senior Leadership Award.  

 Mac Melto holds five school records, including the 100m dash, 400m dash, 4x100m Relay, 4x200m Relay, and the 4x400m Relay. A large picture in the shape of the State of Illinois, of Mac Melto, from the 2011 IHSA State Track & Field Championships is on permanent display in the Northside College Prep Trophy Case.

 In honor of Northside Captain Mac Melto, USA Track & Field Mac Melto 400m run plaques were awarded to the top 7 athletes in the 400m run.

 There was a record 40 entires in the Mac Melto 400m run!

 The official distance of the Track at Hanson stadium is 440 yards, which converts to 402.333 meters.

 In the Mac Melto 400m run, Northside Senior Mac Melto WON it with an outstanding time of 50.72. Mac Melto was awarded a Gold Medal and USA Track & Field plaque for winning the 400m run. Chicago Bulls Prep Charles Billingsley finished in second place with an official time of 55.22. Kelvyn Park Devan Davis finished in third place with an official time of 56.58. Chicago Bulls Prep Jonathan Dorsey finished in fourth place with an official time of 57.05. Chicago Bulls Prep Jacinto Perez finished in fifth place with an official time of 59.87. Solorio Academy Lamont Smith finished in sixth place to complete the scoring with an official time of 59.92. Taft Matt Mach earned a USA Track & Field Mac Melto 400m run plaque by finishing in the top seven with an outstanding time of 60.10. Northside Freshman Porter Abbey ran an outstanding time of 61.49. Northside Freshman Harry Winters ran an outstanding time of 68.22.

 In the 300m Hurdles, Northside Sophomore Lucien Fitzpatrick WON it with a personal best time of 44.44. Lucien Fitzpatrick was awarded a Gold Medal for finishing in first place. Roosevelt Tristan Irizarry finished in second place with an official time of 48.64. Northside Sophomore Joel Deleon finished in third place with a personal best time of 49.88. Joel Deleon was awarded a bronze medal for finishing in third place. Northside Sophomore Walter Johnson-Geis finished in fourth place with an official time of 50.32. Walter Johnson-Geis was awarded a ribbon for finishing in fourth place. Northside Freshman Matt Osborne finished in fifth place with a personal best time of 51.17. Matt Osborne was awarded a ribbon for finishing in fifth place. Roosevelt Markeon Bush finished in sixth place to complete the scoring with an official time of 54.46. Northside Freshman Ari Perlmutter finished in seventh place with a personal best time of 56.30. Northside Sophomore Patrick Andrade finished in eighth place with a personal best time of 64.02.

 In the Mile, Roosevelt Senior Jeffrey Rector won it with an official time of 4:40.43. Northside Senior Ezra Edgerton finished in second place with a season best time of 4:45.40. Ezra Edgerton was awarded a silver medal for finishing in second place. Northside Junior Patrick Brennan finished in third place with an outstanding time of 4:50.61. Patrick Brennan was awarded a bronze medal for finishing in third place. Brennan also ran a 55.30 400m split in the 4x400m relay! Patrick Brennan is closing in on passing all time great Patrick O'Connor (4:48) on the Northside 1600m run All time list. Northside Alumni legend Patrick O'Connor was in attendance at the meet, and was cheering for Brennan. Roosevelt Junior Muhammed Chota finished in fourth place with an official time of 5:11.40. Northside Junior Raymond Siddiqi finished in fifth place with an outstanding time of 5:11.50. Raymond Siddiqi was awarded a ribbon for finishing in fifth place. Chicago Bulls Prep Sophomore Joshua Hernandez finished in sixth place to complete the scoring with an official time of 5:16.62. Taft Freshman Abraham Tobias ran an outstanding time of 5:17.65. Northside Freshman Adrian Black ran an outstanding time of 5:20.22. Northside Sophomore Cristian Hernandez ran a personal best time of 5:40.04. Northside Sophomore Andrew Donchak ran an outstanding time of 6:18.12.

 In the 200m Dash, Kelvyn Park Senior Brian Carter won it with an official time of 22.53. Chicago Bulls Prep LaZyrick Middlebrooks finished in second place with an official time of 23.87. Middlebrooks also anchored the Bulls to a dramatic victory in the 4x400m relay. Taft George Vidas finished in third place with an official time of 24.09. CICS-Ellison Harwell finished in fourth place with an official time of 24.86. Chicago Bulls Earnest Banks finished in fifth place with an official time of 25.03. Chicago Bulls Rashod Butler finished in sixth place to complete the scoring with an official time of 25.25. Northside Senior Fabian Lara ran a personal best time of 25.88. Northside Freshman Elijah Hernandez ran an outstanding time of 29.56.

 In the 4x400m Relay, Chicago Bulls Prep WON it with an official time of 3:45.0. Northside College Prep finished in second place with an official time of 3:47.30. Northside Senior Dan Graham ran a 58.70 400m split on the first leg of the relay, and then made a nice exchange to Northside Junior Patrick Brennan. Patrick Breenan ran a personal best 55.30 400m split on the second leg of the relay, and then made a nice exchange to Senior Joseph Smith. Joseph Smith ran a 58.20 400m split on the third leg of the relay, and then made a nice exchange to Senior Josh Williams. Josh Williams ran a 55.47 400m split to anchor the Mustangs to SECOND place with an official time of 3:47.30. Roosevelt finished in third place with an official time of 3:55.47. Kelvyn Park finished in fourth place with an official time of 3:57.39. Taft finished in fifth place with an official time of 3:58.88. Urban Prep West finished in sixth place to complete the scoring with an official time of 4:07.59.
