On Tuesday, April 10, 2012, the Northside Varsity Men traveled to Adams Stadium at Deerfield High School in Deerfield, Illinois for the 2012 Deerfield Warrior Track & Field Classic.

The meet featured Glenbrook North, Northside College Prep, and host Deerfield High School. Individual events were scored 5-3-2-1, and relays were scored 5-3.

The meet had non-stop action, and keeping warm was important, as the temperature dropped from 40 degrees to 29 degrees.

Deerfield High School is one of the most highly competive places to compete at in Illinois. In 2011, Deerfield High School finished fifth in the Class 3A State Track & Field Championships and won the 2011 IHSA Sectional Championships. Deerfield had all of their weapons on Tuesday, and entered as many as 12 athletes in each individual event. Deerfield also had four to five relays in the 4x800m, 4x100m, 4x200m, and 4x400m Relays.

The Northside Mustangs rose up to the challenge, and had an outstanding meet, including a new school record in the 100m Dash. Deerfield Head Coach Jeremy Kaufman praised the Northside athletes for their outstanding performances, and is looking forward to seeing the Mustangs again at the IHSA State Championships in Charleston, Illinois.

In the Varsity 4x800m Relay, Northside finished in SECOND place with an official time of 8:37.80. Northside Senior Dan Graham ran the first 400m in 60 seconds, and then ran the final 400m in 68 seconds for a 2:08.40 800m split on the first leg of the relay, and made a good exchange to Northside Junior Patrick Brennan. Patrick Brennan ran the first 400m in 61.60 seconds, and then ran the final 400m in 66.20 seconds for a personal best 2:07.80 800m split on the second leg of the relay, and made a nice exchange to Northside Senior Pat Duffy. Pat Duffy ran the first 400m in 61 seconds, and then ran the final 400m in 68.20 seconds for a 2:09.20 800m split on the third leg of the relay, and made a perfect exchange to Northside Senior Ezra Edgerton. Ezra Edgerton ran the first 400m in 62 seconds, and then ran the final 400m in 69 seconds for a 2:11.60 800m split, to anchor the Mustangs to SECOND place with an official time of 8:37.80. Edgerton felt sick after he started the anchor leg of the 4x800m relay, and was scratched from the open 800m, but came back for the 4x400m relay. Despite Edgerton being sick, it was still the second fastest 4x800m relay time in the Mustangs IHSA Sectional this year! The top two relay teams at Sectionals automatically qualify for the IHSA State Championships!! The Mustangs are also within 9 seconds of the Northside School Record in the 4x800m Relay!!!
