 On Saturday, April 28, 2012, the Northside Sophomore-Freshman Boys Track & Field Team traveled to Hanson Stadium in Chicago, Illinois for the Sophomore-Freshman PRELIMS for the Chicago Public League Championships!

 The Northside Mustangs qualified 14 athletes for the finals, in 11 events, including the 3200m run (2), 4x800m Relay (8), 110m Hurdles (2), 800m run (1), 300m Hurdles (1), 1600m Run (1), High Jump (2), Long Jump (1), Triple Jump (2), Shot Put (2), and Discus (1).

Qualifiers for the CPS Sophomore-Freshman Track & Field FINALS Include:

1. Lucien Fitzpatrick - High Jump, Long Jump, 110m Hurdles, and 300m Hurdles 

2. Ari Perlmutter - High Jump, Triple Jump, and Shot Put

 ALL members of the Northside Sophomore-Freshman Boys Track & Field Team MUST be at practice everyday, April 30 - May 3. The IHSA Sectional roster will not be announced until Monday, May 7, 2012. The IHSA Sectional Championships takes place at 3:30 pm on Thursday, May 17, 2012. The IHSA State Championships will take place in Charleston, Illinois on May 25-26, 2012. Thanks.

 

 In the Shot Put, Northside Freshman Ari Perlmutter QUALIFIED for the finals with a throw of 33'3. Northside Sophomore Louie Koll QUALIFIED for the finals with a personal best throw of 32'9.

 

 In the Discus, Northside Sophomore Henry Lothschutz QUALIFIED for the finals with a throw of 86'7. Northside Freshman Ari Perlmutter threw an outstanding 64'11.

 

 In the Long Jump, Northside Sophomore Lucien Fitzpatrick QUALIFIED for the finals with a jump of 18'3.25. Northside Freshman Porter Abbey jumped an outstanding 15'6.

 

 In the Triple Jump, Northside Freshman Matt Osborne QUALIFIED for the finals with a jump of 36'1. Northside Freshman Ari Perlmutter QUALIFIED for the finals with a jump of 33'10.

 

 In the High Jump, Northside Sophomore Lucien Fitzpatrick QUALIFIED for the finals with a jump of 5'6. Northside Freshman Ari Perlmutter QUALIFIED for the finals with a jump of 5'2.

 

 In the 4x800m Relay, Northside finished sixth in the prelims to QUALIFY for the finals with an official time of 9:36.04. Sophomore Cesar Rufino ran the first 400m in 63 seconds, and the final 400m in 77 seconds for an 800m split of 2:20.60. Northside Freshman Adrian Black ran an 800m split of 2:25.28 on the second leg of the relay. Northside Sophomore Nate Mendez ran an 800m split of 2:26.47 on the third leg of the relay. Northside Freshman Max McCoy anchored the Mustangs to sixth place with a 2:23.69 800m split for an official time of 9:36.04.

 

 In the 4x100m Relay, Northside finished 17th in the prelims with an official time of 51.68. Northside Sophomore Jay Yu ran a 100m split of 14.71 on the first leg of the relay. Northside Sophomore Louie Koll ran a 100m split of 10.71 on the second leg of the relay. Northside Sophomore Walter Johnson-Geis ran a 100m split of 12.97 on the third leg of the relay. Northside Freshman Porter Abbey anchored the Mustangs with a 13.69 100m split for an official time of 51.68.

 

 In the 110m Prelims, Northside Sophomore Lucien Fitzpatrick QUALIFED for the finals by winning the prelims with an outstanding time of 17.01. Northside Sophomore Walter Johnson-Geis QUALIFIED for the finals by finishing in eighth place with an outstanding time of 19.96.

 

 In the 100m Dash Prelims, Northside Sophomore Jay Yu finished in 44th place with an official time of 13.36. Northside Freshman Calvin Kuhnen finished in 47th place with an official time of 13.55.

 

 In the 800m run, Northside Sophomore Robert Szmurlo QUALIFIED for the finals by finishing 9th place with an official time of 2:19.28. Robert Szmurlo ran the first 400m in 65 seconds, and then ran the final 400m in 74 seconds for an official time of 2:19.28. Northside Freshman Connor Fulton finished in 20th place with an official time of 2:29.66. Connor Fulton ran the first 400m in 68 seconds, and then ran the final 400m in 81 seconds for an official time of 2:29.66.

 

 In the 4x200m Relay, Northside Sophomore Jay Yu ran the first leg of the relay in 27.86 seconds. Northside Freshman Calvin Kuhnen ran the second leg of the relay in 28.22 seconds. Northside Sophomore Joel Deleon ran the third leg of the relay in 26.40 seconds. Northside Freshman Elijah Hernadez anchored the Mustangs to 16th place with a 200m split of 26.50 for an official time of 1:48.98.

 

 In the 400m run, Northside Sophomore Louis Koll finished in 23rd place with an official time of 58.96. Northside Freshman Porter Abbey finished in 39th place with an official time of 61.83.

 

 In the 300m Hurdles, Northside Sophomore Lucien Fitzpatrick finished in second place to QUALIFY for the finals with an official time of 45.07. Northside Freshman Matt Osborne was scratched due to a foot injury.

 

 In the 1600m run, Northside Sophomore Cesar Rufino finished in 9th place to QUALIFY for the finals with an official time of 5:04.80. Northside Freshman Adrian Black finished in 16th place with an official time of 5:15.33. 

 

 In the 200m Dash, Northside Sophomore Jay Yu finished in 39th place with an official time of 27.03. Northside Freshman Elijah Hernandez finished in 40th place with an official time of 27.10.

 

 In the 4x400m Relay, Northside finished in 13th place with an official time of 4:07.79. Northside Freshman Porter Abbey ran a 62.39 400m split on the first leg of the relay. Northside Sophomore Walter Johnson-Geis ran a 61.47 400m split on the second leg of the relay. Northside Sophomore Robert Szmurlo ran a 63.03 400m split on the third leg of the relay. Northside Sophomore Joel Deleon anchored the Mustangs with a 60.90 400m split for an official time of 4:07.79. 

 On Friday, April 27, 2012, the Northside Varsity Men traveled to Glenbrook North High School in Northbrook, Illinois for the 50th Annual Spartan Relays.

 The meet featured Deerfield, Maine South, York, New Trier, Glenbrook South, Northside College Prep, Highland Park, Stevenson, Lake Zurich, Loyola Academy, and host Glenbrook North.

 The meet featured the High Jump Relay, Long Jump Relay, Pole Vault Relay, Triple Jump Relay, Shot Put Relay, Discus Relay, High Hurdle Shuttle Relay, 4x800m Relay, 4x100m Relay, Distance Medley Relay, Middle Distance Medley Relay, Sprint Medley Relay, 4x1 Mile Relay, 4x200m Relay, Low Hurdle Shuttle Relay, Throwers 4x100m Relay, and the 4x400m Relay.

 It is the best relay meet in Illinois, and the hospitality and sportsmanship was second to none.

 Glenbrook North Head Coach Scott Laskey provided meals for the entire coaching staffs of all eleven visiting Teams. Opposing athletes were giving each other high fives after every jump at the high jump pit or throw at the Discus cage. The stands were filled with athletes that had competed at Spartan Relays in previous years.   

  The Spartan Relays has a fifty years history of future Olympians, State Champions, and All State Athletes coming together to compete in the Ultimate Relay meet. All events are Relays, including Field Events and Hurdles. 

 Olympians that have competed in Spartan Relays include Ohio State's Robert Gary. Spartan Relay Alumni include NCAA Champion Dave Valentine. Recent State Champions that have competed in Spartan Relays include 1600m Champion, Tom Robbins (Loyola Academy). The list of current and past All State Athletes that have competed in Spartan Relays is endless.

 A Medal or a Ribbon from Spartan Relays is priceless. The Top 3 Teams in each event are awarded a Medal, and places fourth through six are awarded a Ribbon.

 The Northside 4x800m Relay school record of 8:28.80 was held by Wesley Laytham, Charlie Mesimore, Pat Duffy, and Ezra Edgerton. The Mustangs came into the meet with the goal of breaking the school record. 

 At Spartan Relays, the 4x800m Relay field included IHSA Class 3A State Cross Country Champion Leland Later, as the anchor leg for New Trier High School. 

 Northside Senior Dan Graham put the Mustangs on school record pace with a 2:07.77 800m split on the first leg of the relay. Dan Graham made a perfect exchange to Junior Patrick Brennan. Patrick Breenan ran a 2:07.03 800m split on the second leg of the relay. Patrick Brennan made a perfect exchange to Senior Pat Duffy. Pat Duffy ran a 2:09.87 800m split on the third leg of the relay. Pat Duffy made a perfect exchange to Senior Ezra Edgerton. 

 Ezra Edgerton ran one of the greatest anchor legs in the history of Northside! Ezra Edgerton ran the first 400m in 58.33 seconds, and then passed Stevenson, Highland ParkYork, and Deerfield in the final 400m with a 65.10 split for a personal best 2:03.43 800m split, and anchored the Mustangs to a NEW SCHOOL RECORD of 8:28.10

 The Northside 4x800m Relay finished in fifth place overall, with an official time of 8:28.10, and posted victories over 6. Deerfield (8:29.80), 7. York (8:33.90), 8. Highland Park (8:34.70), 9. Stevenson (8:36.50), 10. Glenbrook South (8:45.20) and 11. Glenbrook North (9:24.70).

 It was also the second fastest 4x800m Relay time in the Class 2A IHSA Marshall Sectional this season!

 Dan Graham, Patrick Brennan, Pat Duffy, and Ezra Edgerton were awarded ribbons for placing fifth overall. 

 Dan Graham, Patrick Brennan, Pat Duffy, and Ezra Edgerton will also be honored and awarded Watermelons in practice on Monday for breaking the school record in the 4x800m Relay!!!

 Dan Graham, Patrick Brennan, Pat Duffy, and Ezra Edgerton will also be awarded Plaques at the June 1, 2012 Track & Field Banquet for breaking the school record in the 4x800m Relay!!!

 The Northside Middle Distance Medley Relay (200m-200m-400m-800m) school record of 4:10.60 was held by Tyler Sauter, Kevin Jaburek, Ezra Edgerton, and Pat Duffy. The Mustangs came into the meet with the goal of breaking the school record.

 Northside Junior Nathaniel Agharese put the Mustangs on school record pace with a 23.11 200m split on the first leg of the relay, and made a nice exchange to Raymond Siddiqi. Northside Junior Raymond Siddiqi ran a 28.44 200m split on the second leg of the relay, and made a nice exchange to Josh Williams. Northside Junior Josh Williams ran a 56.31 400m split on the third leg of the relay, and made a perfect exchange to Senior Dan Graham.

 Northside Senior Dan Graham ran the first 400m in 61.14 seconds, and then passed Glenbrook North (4:05.60), and Glenbook South (4:03.20) in the final 400m with a 71.50 split for an 800m split of 2:12.64 to WIN the first heat, and anchored the Mustangs to a NEW SCHOOL RECORD of 4:00.50

 Northside Senior Dan Graham helped the Mustangs break TWO school records in the same day!

 Nathaniel Agharese, Raymond Siddiqi, Josh Williams, and Dan Graham broke the school record (4:10.60) by 10 seconds!!!

 Nathaniel Agharese, Raymond Siddiqi, Josh Williams, and Dan Graham will be honored and awarded Watermelons in practice on Monday for breaking the school record in the Middle Distance Medley Relay!!!

 Nathaniel Agharese, Raymond Siddiqi, Josh Williams, and Dan Graham will also be awarded Plaques at the June 1, 2012 Track & Field Banquet for breaking the school record in the Middle Distance Medley Relay!!! 

 In the 4x1600m Relay, Northside Junior Patrick Brennan ran a personal best 1600m split of 4:44.56. Brennan ran 400m splits of 66, 74, 76, and a NEGATIVE split of 68 on the final 400m for a personal best time of 4:44.56. Brennan tied Jonathan Kittaka on the all time list for the 1600m run. A year ago, Brennan ran a 5:30 mile in the Sophomore City prelims. Brennan has dropped 46 seconds in one year! Northside Junior Raymond Siddiqi ran a 5:25.84 1600m split on the second leg of the relay. The remaining legs of the 4x1600m relay were scratched.

 In the Throwers 4x100m Relay, Northside Junior Kapil Garg ran a 15.52 100m split on the first leg of the relay. Northside Sophomore Alexander Pilski ran a 15.00 100m split on the second leg of the relay. Northside Junior Olabode Faleti ran a 14.28 100m split on the third leg of the relay. Northside Junior Ify Nduwku ran a 14.15 100m split to anchor the Mustangs to an official time of 58.95.

 In the Shot Put Relay, Northside Junior Olabode Faleti threw 20'8. Northside Junior Ifeanyichu Nduwku threw 29'4. Northside Junior Kapil Garg threw 30'6. Northside Sophomore Alexander Pilski threw 30'11.

 In the Discus Relay, Northside Sophomore Alexander Pilski threw 52'4. Northside Junior Kapil Garg threw 61'0. Northside Junior Olabode Faleti threw 62'0. Northside Junior Ifeanyichu Nduwku threw 81'2.

 In the Long Jump Relay, Northside Junior Raymond Siddiq jumped 9'10. Northside Freshman Harry Winters jumped 10'11. Northside Senior Dan Graham jumped a personal best 15'4.75. Northside Senior Josh Williams jumped 18'6.75.

 In the 4x400m Relay, Northside Senior Pat Duffy ran a 55.46 400m split on the first leg of the relay. Northside Senior Josh Williams ran a 59.69 400m split on the second leg of the relay. Northside Junior Patrick Brennan ran a 58.25 400m split on the third leg of the relay. Northside Senior Dan Graham ran a 60.06 400m split to anchor the Mustangs to an official time of 3:53.46.

 The Northside Varsity Track & Field TEAM will travel to Hanson Stadium for the Chicago Public League prelims on Wednesday, May 2, 2012.

 On Tuesday, April 24, 2012, the Northside Varsity Men traveled to Lake Forest Academy in Lake Forest, Illinois to take on the Caxys in a dual meet.

 Lake Forest Academy features a multi-million dollar track, hockey rink, and extensive athletic facilities. The campus is surrounded by woods, complete with running trails. All Lake Forest Academy students are required to compete in Track and one other sport as a graduation requirement. Lake Forest Academy had multiple athletes and relays in every event.

 Across from the Track & Field Stadium, the Chicago Bears Indoor Practice facility could be seen behind the stadium score board. Lake Forest Academy was excellent hosts.

 In 2011, the Northside Varsity Men finished in the top 2 in the indoor city championships, and in the top 4 in the outdoor city championships, and the mustangs went on to post victories over Lane Tech and Palatine in the Class 3A State Championships!

 Despite the Mustangs success in 2011, Northside was unable to beat Lake Forest Academy. That changed on Tuesday, as the Mustangs upset Lake Forest Academy by a score of 76-61!!! 

 A year ago (2011), Northside had 55 wins at this point in the season. In 2012, the Northside Mustangs now have a season record of 70-23!!! It is the best record in the history of the program. 

 Individual events were scored 5-3-1, and relays were scored 5-0.

 In the Shot Put, Northside Freshman Ari Perlmutter threw a personal best 34'3 to finish in third place to complete the scoring. Northside Junior Kapil Garg threw an outstanding 31'8. Northside Sophomore Louis Koll threw a personal best 31'4.5. Northside Junior Ifeanyichu Ndukwu threw an outstanding 30'6. Northside Sophomore Henry Lothschutz threw 28'10.50. Northside Sophomore Alexander Pilski threw 28'0.50. Northside Junior Olabode Faleti threw 21'1.5. Northside Freshman Declan Galleher threw 18'8.

 In the Discus, Northside Freshman Ari Perlmutter threw a personal best 80'1. Northside Junior Ifeanyichu Ndukwu threw an outstanding 77'10. Northside Sophomore Henry Lothschutz threw an outstanding 77'0. Northside Junior Kapil Garg an improved by 1'1 with an outstanding throw of 76'1. Northside Sophomore Alexander Pilski threw 58'9. Northside Junior Olabode Faleti had a throw of 58'6. Northside Freshman Declan Galleher had a throw of 47'1.

 In the Long Jump, Northside Senior Josh Williams won it with a jump of 18'10. Northside Sophomore Lucien Fitzpatrick finished in second place with a jump of 17'5. Northside Freshman Porter Abbey finished in third place to complete the scoring with a jump of 16'6.

 In the Triple Jump, Northside Senior Josh Williams won it with a jump of 37'4. Northside Freshman Ari Perlmutter finished in second place with a jump of 36'4. Northside Freshman Matt Osborne finished in third place to complete the scoring with a jump of 34'1.

 In the High Jump, Northside Sophomore Lucien Fitzpatrick finished in second place with a leap of 5'6. Northside Freshman Ari Perlmutter finished in third place to complete the scoring with a jump of 5'4. 

 In the 4x800m Relay, Northside WON it with a season best time of 8:32.55. Northside is now within 4 seconds of the school record!!! The mustangs also ran the second fastest time this season in the IHSA Marshall Sectional! The top two teams in each sectional automatically advance to the State Championships. Northside is working hard to go to Charleston, Illinois in May. Northside Senior Dan Graham ran the first leg of the relay in an 800m split of 2:06.74, and then made a perfect exchange to Junior Patrick Brennan. Patrick Brennan ran the second leg of the relay in an 800m split of 2:09.43, and then made a nice exchange to Senior Pat Duffy. Pat Duffy ran the third leg of the relay in an 800m split of 2:11.94, and then made a perfect exchange to Senior Ezra Edgerton. Ezra Edgerton anchored the Mustangs to VICTORY with an impressive 2:04.44 800m split for an official time of 8:32.55.

 In the 4x100m Relay, Northside finished in second place with an official time of 51.49. Northside Sophomore Jay Yu ran a 100m split of 11.34 on the first leg of the relay, and made a good exchange to Northside Sophomore Louie Koll. Louie Koll ran a 12.93 100m split on the second leg of the relay, and made a perfect exchange to Northside Freshman Calvin Kuhnen. Calvin Kuhnen ran a 13.63 100m split on the third leg of the relay, and made a nice exchange to Freshman Porter Abbey. Porter Abbey ran a 13.60 100m split to anchor the Mustangs to second place with an official time of 51.49.

 In the 3200m run, Northside Sophomore Cesar Rufino ran the first mile in 5:18, and then ran the second mile in 5:32 to WIN it with an official time of 10:50.54. Northside Freshman Max McCoy dropped 25 seconds (11:57) to finish in SECOND place with a personal best time 11:32.21. Max McCoy ran the first mile in 5:37 and then ran the final mile in 5:55 for an official time of 11:32.21. Northside Freshman Jack O'Donnell ran the first mile in 6:00, and then ran the final mile in 6:08 for an official time of 12:08.00. Northside Sophomore Andrew Donchak ran an official time of 13:46.00.

 In the 110m Hurdles, Northside Sophomore Lucien Fitzpatrick WON it with an official time of 17.40. Northside Sophomore Stefan Roeseller finished in third place to complete the scoring with an official time of 20.33. Northside Freshman Matt Osborne ran an outstanding time of 21.52. Northside Sophomore Joel Deleon ran an official time of 23.42.

 In the 100m Dash, Northside Junior Nathaniel Agharese WON it with an official time of 11.23. Northside Sophomore Jay Yu ran a time of 13.29. Northside Freshman Elijah Hernandez ran a time of 13.42. Northside Freshman Calvin Kuhnen ran an official time of 14.09. Northside Junior Olabode Faleti ran an official time of 15.02.

 In the 800m run, Northside Sophomore Robert Szmurlo ran a pure guts race from start to finish, and dropped 4 seconds (2:16.47) to finish in SECOND place with a personal best time of 2:12.83. Robert Szmurlo ran the first 400m in 61 seconds, and then ran the final 400m in 71 seconds for an official time of 2:12.83. Northside Freshman Connor Fulton ran the first 400m in 65 seconds and then ran the final 400m in 81 to finish in third place with an official time of 2:26.40.

 In the 4x200m Relay, Northside finished in second place with an official time of 1:49.36. Northside Sophomore Jay Yu ran the first 200m in 26.14, and made a nice exchange to Freshman Calvin Kuhnen. Calvin Kuhnen ran a 200m split of 27.57, and made a good exchange to Northside Freshman Jack O'Donnell. Jack O'Donnell ran a 200m split of 29.96, and made a perfect exchange to Freshman Elijah Hernandez. Elijah Hernandez anchored the Mustangs to second place with a 25.69 200m split for an official time of 1:49.36.

 In the 400m Dash, Lake Forest Ivanuskus won it with an official time of 51.74. Northside Senior Josh Williams finished in second place with an official time of 55.12. Northside Sophomore Louie Koll finished in third place to complete the scoring with an official time of 59.70. Northside Freshman Porter Abbey ran a personal best time of 60.09. Northside Freshman Max McCoy ran a personal best time of 62.51.

 In the 300m Hurdles, Northside Sophomore Lucien Fitzpatrick WON it with an official time of 45.69. Northside Freshman Matt Osborne finished in third place to complete the scoring with a personal best time of 47.98. Northside Sophomore Stefan Roeseller finished in fourth place with a personal best time of 48.63. Northside Sophomore Joel Deleon finished in fifth place with a personal best time of 49.34.

 In the 1600m run, Lake Forest Friske won it with an official time of 4:31.86. Northside Junior Patrick Brennan finished in SECOND place with an official time of 4:46.65. Northside Junior Raymond Siddiqi dropped 4 seconds (5:09.90) to finish in third place to complete the scoring with a personal best time of 5:05.35. Northside Sophomore Cesar Rufino finished in fourth place with an outstanding time of 5:08.57. Northside Freshman Adrian Black dropped 6 seconds (5:17.90) to finish in fifth place with a personal best time of 5:11.53.

 In the 200m Dash, Northside Sophomore Nathaniel Agharese WON it with an outstanding time of 22.72. Northside Sophomore Jay Yu ran a personal best time of 26.66. Northside Freshman Elijah Hernandez ran an outstanding time of 26.79. Northside Freshman Calvin Kuhnen ran an official time of 28.54.

 In the 4x400m Relay, Northside Senior Pat Duffy put the Mustangs in the lead with a 55.18 400m split, and made a good exchange to Sophomore Robert Szmurlo. Robert Szmurlo ran a 61.53 400m split, and made a nice exchange to Junior Josh Williams. Josh Williams ran a 58.44 400m split, and made a perfect exchange to Senior Ezra Edgerton. Ezra Edgerton anchored the Mustangs to FIRST place with a 52.91 400m split for an official time of 3:48.06.
