 On Friday, January 18, 2013, forty Northside Track & Field athletes traveled to North Park University in Chicago, Illinois for King of the Quarter! The 2013 King of the Quarter Competition featured FAT timing, thanks to Whitney Young Coach Bob Geiger and Benet Academy's Pat Marshall.   

 All Time great and 2013 King of the Quarter Champion Nathaniel Agharese ran an official time of 59.65 as a Sophomore in 2011. A year ago (2012), the winning time in the Sophomore division was 61.57. Both those marks were surppased on Friday night.

 Northside Sophomore Tom Frejowski won the Sophomore division of King of the Quarter with an outstanding time of 56.94. Tom Frejowski dropped 4.81 seconds (61.75) from the 2012 King of the Quarter competition. Tom Frejowski earned a Medal by placing first in the Sophomore division of King of the Quarter!

 Northside Sophomore Malcolm Grba finished in second place in the Sophomore division with an outstanding time of 59.21. Malcom Grba earned a Medal in his first ever 400m race, by placing second in the Sophomore division of King of the Quarter!

 Northside Sophomore Max McCoy finished in third place in the Sophomore division with an outstanding time of 61.14. Max McCoy dropped 3.77 seconds (64.91) from the 2012 King of the Quarter competition. Max McCoy earned a Medal by placing third in the Sophomore division of King of the Quarter!

 Northside Sophomore Matt Osborne finished in fourth place in the Sophomore division with an outstanding time of 61.61. Matt Osborne dropped 4.28 seconds (65.89) from the 2012 King of the Quarter competition. In addition to Sprints, Osborne is also an outstanding Hurdler and Jumper.

 Northside Sophomore Porter Abbey finished in fifth place in the Sophomore division with an outstanding time of 61.85. Porter Abbey dropped 3.99 seconds (65.84) from the 2012 King of the Quarter competition. In addition to Sprints, Abbey is also an outstanding Jumper, Hurdler, and distance runner.

 Northside Sophomore Mana Hilmara finished in sixth place in the Sophomore division with a personal best time of 63.29. Northside Hall of Fame Jumps Coach Ed Wallace has praised Hilmara, and said he reminds him of 1968 State Champion Steven Allen.

 Northside Sophomore Connor Fulton finished in seventh place in the Sophomore division with an outstanding time of 65.47. Connor Fulton dropped 1.42 seconds (66.89) from the 2012 King of the Quarter competition.

 Northside Sophomore Jack O'Donnell finished in eighth place in the Sophomore division with an outstanding time of 66.32. Jack O'Donnell dropped 2.08 seconds (68.40) from the 2012 King of the Quarter competition.

 Northside Sophomore Calvin Kuhnen finished in ninth place in the Sophomore division with an outstanding time of 66.49. Calvin Kuhnen dropped 2.02 seconds (68.51) from the 2012 King of the Quarter competition.

 Northside Sophomore Adrian Black finished in tenth place in the Sophomore division with an outstanding time of 67.03. Adrian Black dropped 3.95 seconds (70.98) from the 2012 King of the Quarter competition.

 Northside Sophomore Gabriel Jimenez-Ekman finished in eleventh place in the Sophomore division with a personal best time of 67.95.

 Northside Sophomore Michael Walt finished in 12th place in the Sophomore division with a personal best time of 69.42.

 Northside Sophomore Harry Winters finished in 13th place in the Sophomore division with an official time of 72.62.

 Northside Sophomore Declan Galleher finished in 14th place in the Sophomore division with an official time of 83.59. 

  The Northside Sophomores have been very impressive this year, in sprints, throws, hurdles, jumps, and distance event training groups. They will contend for the Sophomore Title at the Niles West Invitational on February 1, 2013.

 On Monday, March 25, 2013, Olympian Sam Vazquez will be running with the Northside Track & Field Team at practice, and will be the Mustangs guest of honor at a TEAM / PARENTS Pasta Party the night before the 2013 Eric Nelson Track & Field Classic.

 Sam Vazquez was the All-Time fastest High School miler in the State of Florida (4:03), 6 individual State Titles, 2003 Addidas High School National Champion in the mile, NCAA All American in the Middle Distance Relay, Member of the 2003 NCAA National Outdoor Championship Team (University of Arkanas), 7 times NAIA All-American in Track and Cross Country (Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University), 2011 Indoor 1000m National Champion, Puerto Rican National Record Holder (1500m), and has the followings PRs for the 400m (47.32), 600m (1:19), 800m (1:48), 1000m (2:24), 1500m (3:37.60), and 8K (24:19). Olympian Sam Vazquez is currently preparing for the World Championships in Moscow.

 At the Pasta Party, Villa Palermo Catering will provide the TEAM, PARENTS, and honored guests with Grilled Chicken Penne Pasta, Chicken Alfredo Pasta, Green Beans, Corn Cobblets, Fresh Bread, Garden Salad, and bottled water.

 The 2013 Eric Nelson Classic, features among others, Chicago Leo High School, the defending State Champions, Taft, Von Steuben, Kelvyn Park, Solorio Academy, Henry Ford Powerhouse High School, and host Northside College Prep.

 Special Plaque Awards to the winners of events named after Northside State qualifiers and record holders, including the Eric Nelson High Jump, Maria Torres Triple Jump, Josh Williams Long Jump, Mac Melto 400m Dash, Wesley Laytham 800m run, Madison Weatherly 1600m run, Madison Weatherly 3200m run, Veronica Schwartz Shot Put, the Graham-Duffy-Brennan-Edgerton 4x800m Relay, and the Jervier-Lindsey-Chojnacki-Wojcik 4x200m Relay. Medals will also be awarded to the Top 3 Athletes in ALL events (Top 5 Athletes in the 800m, 1600m, and 3200m). Ribbons for places fourth through eighth in ALL events. "Goody Bags" for all participants on EVERY Team. The meet also features FAT timing in 2013!!!

 The Eric Nelson Classic will take place at Hanson Stadium, 5501 W. Fulerton, Chicago, Illinois, on Tuesday, March 26, 2013, at 10:00 am.

 The entire Northside College Prep Track and Field Team will have Shot Put Trials on Friday, January 18, 2013 from 6:30 pm - 9:00 pm at North Park University Indoor Track & Field Stadium.

 The Shot Put Trials are MANDATORY. All Athletes must take TWO throws to be on the Team, regardless of event group. Uniforms will NOT be issued to any athletes that miss the Shot Put Trials for any reason. Thanks.  

 The Trials will help us discover new throwers and determine our initial Varsity, Junior Varsity, Sophomore, and Freshman Throwers for the first meet.

 The King and Queen of the Shot Put competition gives Northside athletes an appreciation for each others events, and makes the TEAM stronger. 

 Athletes will meet at the MAIN ENTRANCE of Northside College Prep at 6:00 pm before going to the Indoor Stadium at North Park University. Thanks.

3)   In addition to a Shot Put Head Official, there will be several landing judges.

 Gatorade and water will be provided for all Athletes. ENGRAVED MEDALS will be AWARDED to the TOP 3 Seniors, Juniors, Sophomores, and Freshman Athletes that throws the Shot Put the furtherest distance.

In 2009, Mac Melto won the Freshman division of King of the quarter with a time of 60.22. Four years later, in 2012, Mac Melto broke the Class 2A record, and won Illinois Prep Top times with an official time of 49.25. Mac Melto also broke his school record, at the Paul Gans Invitational with a 48.30.    

In 2011, Northside finished 2nd in the 4x400m Relay to Robeson High School in the Chicago Public League Championships with the following relay splits, in order, N. Agharese (52.92), J. Williams (52.82), W. Laytham (52.18), and M. Melto (49.80), for a school record of 3:27.78. In 2011, one individual earned All State honors in the 400m run, M. Melto (48.78).

In 2007, Andrew Czyszczon won the Freshman King of the Quarter with a time of 68.59. The 2007 Northside Freshman Track Team included, future stars, Cooper Eben, Cuitlahuac Pineda Youniss, and Jiasong Yang. Cooper Eben went from a 70.39 as a Freshman to a 59.84 as a Senior. 

Who will win the 2013 King of the Quarter for Seniors? Juniors? Sophomores? Freshman?

The 2013 King of the Quarter will commence on Friday, January 18, 2013, at 6:30 pm at North Park University 200m Indoor Track located on the corner of Foster and Carmen Ave., a few blocks from Northside College Prep. Northside will also have FAT timing this year!

Heat Assignments will be provided at the main entrance of Northside College Prep at 6:00 pm. After all the athletes have checked-in, Team Captains will lead the Northside Track & Field Team on a warm-up run to the Indoor Track stadium.
