 On Wednesday, February 13, 2012, the Northside College Prep Varsity Mens and Sophomore-Freshman Boys Track Team traveled to Glenbrook North High School in Northbrook, Illinois for the Spartan Indoor Classic.   

 The Spartan Indoor Classic featured Highland Park, Maine West, Northside College Prep, and host Glenbrook North High School. Maine West competed mostly in field events and relays. 

 The meet was completed very efficiently, in less than 2 hours, and had non-stop action on the Track, which put the crowd on their feet at all times, and created a fun atmosphere for all participating Teams.

 The entire meet was finished, including the 4x400m relay, before the Pole Vault Competition was even completed. A special thanks to Glenbrook North Head Coach Scott Lasky, Coaches Steve Gross, and John Byrne for hosting an outstanding meet. 

  It was also a very friendly atmosphere as several reunions took place throughout the meet. Northside Head Coach Jon Gordon attended Glenbrook North from 1986-1990, and is a member of their athletic college wall of fame. Ken Roy (former coach of Jon Gordon) served as the starter, for the meet.

 The meet was scored only on the Varsity level, in an effort to provide non-stop action on the track. The following point scale was used for individual events: 6-4-3-2-1, and 6-4-2 was used for scoring relays. 

 The finishes between Northside College Prep, Highland Park, and Glenbrook North were spectacular.

 In the Pole Vault, Northside Senior Spencer Parts cleared 7'0. Northside Junior Jay Yu made three attempts at 6'0.

 In the Shot Put, Glenbrook North's Mac Turner won it with a throw of 38'9.5. Glenbrook North also had a 4th place finisher with a throw of 37'3.5. Maine West athletes finished in 2nd (38'1), 3rd (37'9), and 5th (37'1.5) to complete the scoring. Highland Park did not score any points in Shot Put. Northside Senior Kapil Garg led the Mustangs with a throw of 31'0. Junior Marek Dobrenk threw an outstanding 30'6. Junior Henry Lothschutz threw a season best 29'3. Freshman Peter Kritikos threw an outstanding 28'9. Peter Kritikos is closing in on the thirty feet barrier! Sophomore Alejandro Ballesteros threw a personal best 23'5. Sophomore Declan Galleher threw an outstanding 21'2. Sophomore Harry Winters threw an outstanding 19'9. Freshman Hyunwoo Ward threw an outstanding 15'10.

After the Shot Put, the score of the meet was Maine West 8, Glenbrook North 8, Northside 0, and Highland Park 0.

 In the Long Jump, Glenbrook North's Landon Smith won it with a jump of 18'1.5 Glenbrook North also had athletes finish in 2nd (17'10.25), 3rd (17'6.75), and 5th place (17'1.5). Northside Sophomore Porter Abbey finished in fourth place with a personal best jump of 17'4.75. Northside Sophomore Matt Osborne jumped 13'8.25.

 After the Long Jump, the score of the meet was Glenbrook North 22, Maine West 8, Northside 2, and Highland Park 0. 

 In the High Jump, Glenbrook North's Brian O'Keefe won it with a jump of 6'0. Northside Junior Lucien Fitzpatrick finished in SECOND place with a leap of 5'6. A Highland Park athlete finished in third with a jump of 5'2. A Glenbrook North athlete finished in fourth place with a jump of 4'8. Northside Sophomore Alejandro Ballesteros completed the scoring by finishing in fifth place with a personal best jump of 4'2.

 After the High Jump, the score of the meet was Glenbrook North 30, Maine West 8, Northside 7, and Highland Park 3.

 In the Triple Jump, Highland Park's Rogin won it with a jump of 38'2.50. A Highland Park athlete also finished in 2nd (36'9), and 4th (34'10). Northside Sophomore Matt Osborne finished in third place with an outstanding jump of 35'6.75. Northside Sophomore Porter Abbey finished in fifth place to complete the socring with a jump of 34'7. Northside Junior Lucien Fitzpatrick jumped an outstanding 34'0.25.

 After the Triple Jump, the score of the meet was Glenbrook North 30, Highland Park 15, Northside 11, and Maine West 8.

 In the Varsity 4x800m Relay, Highland Park won it. Glenbrook North (Cintado, Reeber, Cheung, Amram) finished in second place with an official time of 8:36. Northside finished in third place with an official time of 9:12.47. Northside Sophomore Max McCoy ran a personal best 2:16.01 800m split on the first leg of the relay. Northside Sophomore Adrian Black ran a personal best 2:19.81 800m split on the second leg of the relay. Northside Senior Calvin Gang ran a season best 2:20.46 800m split on the third leg of the relay. Northside Junior Cesar Rufino anchored the Mustangs to third place to complete the scoring, with a 2:16.19 800m split for an official time of 9:12.47.

 In the Freshman 4x800m Relay, Northside Freshman Danny Rosen ran a personal best 2:16.01 800m split on the first leg of the relay. Northside Freshman Gabe Stacey ran a 2:34.99 800m split on the second leg of the relay. Northside Freshman Geir Falck-Pedersen ran a 2:37.67 800m split on the third leg of the relay. Northside Freshman Matthew Gomez ran a 2:29.11 800m split to anchor the Mustangs to an official time of 9:57.78.

 After the 4x800m Relay, the score of the meet was Glenbrook North 34, Highland Park 21, Northside 13, and Maine West 8.

 In the 55m High Hurdles, Highland Park's Rogin won it with an official time of 8.00. Northside Junior Lucien Fitzpatrick finished in second place with a personal best time of 8.09 (8.10). A Highland Park Athlete finished in third place. Northside Sophomore Matt Osborne finished in fourth place with an outstanding time of 9.60. A Glenbrook North athlete finished in fifth place to complete the scoring. Northside Sophomore Porter Abbey finished in sixth place with a personal best time of 10.80.

 After the 55m High Hurdles, the score of the meet was Glenbrook North 35, Highland Park 30, Northside 19, and Maine West 8.

 In the 50m Dash, Northside Senior Nathaniel Agharese won it with an official time of 5.94 (6.00). Highland Park athletes finished in second (6.10), and fourth, respectively. Glenbrook North Athletes finished in third (O'Keefe), and fifth respectively. Northside Sophomore Michael Walt ran a personal best time of 6.75 (6.80). Northside Freshman Jack Svoboda ran a personal best time of 6.80. Northside Freshman Keith Jones ran a personal best time of 6.83 (6.90). Northside Junior Jay Yu ran an outstanding time of 6.90. Northside Sophomore Calvin Kuhnen ran a personal best time of 6.90. Northside Freshman Peter Kritikos ran a personal best time of 7.00. Northside Sophomore Gabriel Jimenez-Ekman ran a personal best time of 7.10. Northside Junior Lawrence Riley ran a personal best time of 7.20. Northside Freshman Justin Washington ran a personal best time of 7.40. Northside Freshman Steven Kataba ran an official time of 7.50. Northside Freshman Alejandro Linan ran a personal best time of 7.80.

 After the 50m Dash, the score of the meet was Glenbrook North 39, Highland Park 36, Northside 25, and Maine West 8.

 In the 800m run, Glenbrook North's Connor Ayers led the race for the first 400m, before being caught by Northside Sophomore Malcolm Grba. Malcolm Grba then opened up a lead, and WON it with an official time 2:10.30. Malcolm Grba ran 160m splits of 23, 25, 27, 28, and a NEGATIVE split of 27 for an official time of 2:10.30. Northside Senior Raymond Siddiqi finished in second place with a personal best time of 2:19.00. Raymond Siddiqi ran 160m splits of 25, 27, 28, 29 and 30 for an official time of 2:19.00. Glenbrook North's Connor Ayers finished in third place with an official time of 2:20.1. Northside Junior Alex Gordon finished in fourth place with an official time of 2:30.00. Northside Junior Robert Szmurlo finished in fifth place to complete the scoring with an official time of 2:31.00. Northside Freshman Alejandro Serrano ran a personal best time of 2:43.00. Northside Freshman Sarrin Chethik ran a personal best time of 2:45.00. Northside Freshman Hyunwoo Ward dropped eight seconds (3:00.00) from the Whitney Young Indoor Classic with a personal best time of 2:52.00. Northside Sophomore Declan Galleher ran an outstanding time of 2:55.00.

 After the 800m run, the score of the meet was Glenbrook North 42, Northside 38, Highland Park 36, and Maine West 8.

 In the 4x160m Relay "A", Glenbrook North won it with an official time of 1:23.00. Northside finished in second place with an official time of 1:26.96. Northside Sophomore Michael Walt ran a 21.91 160m split on the first leg of the relay. Northside Sophomore Gabriel Jimenez-Ekman ran a 21.78 160m split on the second leg of the relay. Northside Freshman Keith Jones ran a 21.54 160m split on the third leg of the relay. Northside Freshman Jack Svoboda anchored the Mustangs to SECOND place with a 21.74 160m split for an official time of 1:26.97.

 In the 4x160m Relay "B", Northside Junior Jay Yu ran a 21.70 160m split on the first leg of the relay. Northside Junior Lawrence Riley ran a 22.75 160m split on the second leg of the relay. Northside Freshman Alejandro Linan ran a 25.45 160m split on the third leg of the relay. Northside Senior Spencer Parts anchored the Mustangs with a 22.96 160m split for an official time of 1:32.86.

 After the 4x160m Relay, the score of the meet was Glenbrook North 48, Northside 42, Highland Park 36, and Maine West 8.

 In the 400m run, Northside Senior Nathaniel Agharese WON it with an outstanding time of 53.90. It was the fastest time ever run by a Northside athlete on Glenbrook North's 160m Track. The previous best was 54.27 (Mac Melto, 2012). Glenbrook North's Dan Shapiro finished in second place with an official time of 58.12. Highland Park athletes finished in third (61.86), fourth (63.40), and fifth place (64.30). Northside lost a lot of points in the 400m run due to scratches. Northside Sophomores Tom Frejowski and Max McCoy both scratched from the event. Freshman Steven Kataba also scratched from the event. Northside Freshman Justin Washington ran a personal best time of 69.41. Northside Freshman Alejandro Linan ran a personal best time of 79.22.

 After the 400m run, the score of the meet was Glenbrook North 52, Northside 48, Highland Park 42, and Maine West 8.

 In the 55m Low Hurdles, Highland Park athletes finished in first place, and third place, respectively. Northside Junior Lucien Fitzpatrick finished in SECOND place with an outstanding time of 8.18 (8.20). A Glenbrook North athlete finished in fourth place. Northside Sophomore Porter Abbey finished in fifth place to complete the scoring with an outstanding time of 9.30.

 After the 55m Low Hurdles, the score of the meet was Glenbrook North 54, Northside 53, Highland Park 51, and Maine West 8.

 Four Events remained, the 1600m run, 200m Dash, Throwers Relay, and the 4x400m Relay.

 In 2012, a time of 4:49 by Highland Park's Nudelman won the 1600m run at the Spartan Indoor Classic. 

 Prior to Wednesday, the fastest Northside 1600m run time at the Spartan Indoor Classic was a 4:49.20 (Cooper Eben, 2010).

 The fastest time ever run for a Highland Park athlete at the Spartan Indoor Classic was a 4:40.00. 

 All of the above changed dramatically on Wednesday.

 The Northside School record for the 1600m run is 4:34.88. It was run on a 400m Outdoor Track at Niles West High School.

 On Wednesday, at Glenbrook North High School, Northside Senior Patrick Brennan ran the first 1120 meters of the race, at school record pace, on a 160m Track, in a constant battle for the lead position with Highland Park.

 Northside Junior Simon Kafka also ran the first 1120 meters of the race at school record pace.

 It was a great race from start to finish. Highland Park made history, by finishing in 1st (4:32.00), 2nd (4:34.10), 4th, and 5th place, respectively.  Glenbrook North's Dan Cheung  finished in third place. 

 Patrick Brennan finished in sixth place with an outstanding time of 4:46.20. Patrick Brennan ran 160m splits of 23, 27, 27, 28, and 30 for an 800m split of 2:15. Brennan then ran 160m splits of 30, 30 (3:15 for 1120m), 31, 30, and then ran the final 160m of the race in an EVEN split of 30 for an official time of 4:46.20. It was the fastest time ever run by a Northside athlete at Glenbrook North's 160m Indoor Track.

 Northside Junior Simon Kafka BROKE THE FIVE MINUTES BARRIER with a personal best time of 4:54.20. Simon Kafka ran 160m splits of 23, 28, 28, 28, and 30 for an 800m split of 2:17. Simon Kafka then ran 160m splits of 29, 32 (3:18 for 1120m), 34, 31, and then ran the final 160m of the race in an EVEN split of 31 for an official time of 4:54.20.

 Northside Sophomore Adrian Black dropped 14 seconds (5:09.36, Whitney Young Indoor Classic) and BROKE THE FIVE MINUTES BARRIER with a personal best time of 4:56.90. Adrian Black ran 160m splits of 27, 28, 29, 32, and 28 for an 800m split of 2:24. Adrian Black then ran 160m splits of 30, 30 (3:24 for 1120m), 31, 30, and then ran the final 160m of the race in 31 seconds for an official time of 4:56.90.

 Northside Junior Cesar Rufino dropped 5 seconds (5:11.50, Niles West) with an outstanding time of 5:06.40. Cesar Rufino ran 160m splits of 26, 28, 28, 33, and 30 for an 800m split of 2:25. Cesar Rufino then ran 160m splits of 32, 33, 32, 33, and then ran the final 160m of the race in a NEGATIVE split of 31 seconds for an official time of 5:06.40.

 Northside Freshman Danny Rosen ran the first 800m in 2:37, and then ran the final 800m in 2:51 for an outstanding time of 5:28.60.

 Northside Freshman Gabe Stacey ran the first 800m in 2:42, and then ran the final 800m in 2:50 for an outstanding time of 5:32.70.

 Northside Freshman Matthew Gomez ran the first 800m in 2:49, and then ran the final 800m in 3:01 for a personal best time of 5:50.40.

 Northside Senior Calvin Gang ran the first 800m in 2:37, and then ran the final 800m in 3:15 for an outstanding time of 5:52.00.

 Northside Freshman Geir Falck-Pedersen ran the first 800m in 2:51, and then ran the final 800m in 3:09 for a personal best time of 6:00.20.

 In the 200m dash, A Highland Park athlete won it with a 24.50. Glenbrook Norh athletes finished in second (24.82), third (25.09), and fourth (26.15), respectively. Northside Sophomore Michael Walt finished in fifth place to complete the scoring with a personal best time of 27.41. Freshman Keith Jones ran a personal best time of 27.46. Freshman Jack Svoboda ran a personal best time of 27.79. Sophomore Gabriel Jimenez-Ekman ran a personal best time of 28.22. Sophomore Calvin Kuhnen ran a personal best time of 28.34. Sophomore Alejandro Ballesteros dropped 0.91 of a second (30.22), and ran a personal best time of 29.31. Freshman Justin Washington ran an outstanding time of 29.39. Freshman Alejandro Linan ran a personal best time of 34.80.

 In the Thrower's 4x160m Relay, Glenbrook North won it. Northside finished in second place with an official time of 1:34.52. Sophomore Alejanandro Ballesteros ran a 24.46 160m split on the first leg of the relay. Junior Henry Lothschutz ran a 23.40 160m split on the second leg of the relay. Junior Marek Dobrenko ran a 22.75 160m split on the third leg of the relay. Northside Freshman Peter Kritikos anchored the Mustangs to SECOND place with a 23.91 160m split for an official time of 1:34.52.

 In the 4x400m Relay, Highland Park won. Glenbrook North finished in second. Northside finished in third place with an official time of 4:03.40. Sophomore Malcolm Grba ran a 57.74 400m split on the first leg of the relay. Sophomore Max McCoy ran a 64.81 400m split on the second leg of the relay. Sophomore Matt Osborne ran a 59.00 400m split on the third leg of the relay. Junior Simon Kafka anchored the Mustangs to third place with a 61.85 400m split for an official time of 4:03.40.

 Glenbrook North and Highland Park tied for first place with 76 points. Northside finished in third place with 61 points. Maine West finished in fourth place with 8 points.
