 Simon Kafka ran a 2:09.39 800m split to anchor the Mustangs to Victory to Qualify for the IHSA State Championships!! Simon Kafka was awarded an IHSA Sectional Champion MEDAL for helping the Mustangs WIN the 4x800m Relay!!! imageimage

 In the IHSA Sectional 4x100m Relay, Chicago UIC won it with an official time of 46.93. Chicago Orr Academy finished in second place to qualify for State with an official time of 47.01. Chicago Bulls College Prep finished in third place with an official time of 48.00. Chicago Kelvyn Park finished in fourth place with an official time of 50.56. CICS/Northtown finished in fifth place with an official time of 51.28. Chicago Northside came within 5 seconds of qualiyfing for State, and finished in sixth place to complete the scoring with an official time of 52.11. Northside Freshman Jack Svoboda, Sophomore Calvin Kuhnen, Freshman Justin Washington, and Sophomore Harry Winters were awarded Medals for finishing in sixth place overall.

 After the 4x100m Relay, Northside had scored a total of 77 points, with 66 points in the Field Events (Pole Vault 18, Triple Jump 16, High Jump 12, Shot Put 8, Long Jump 6, and Discus 6), 10 points in the 4x800m Relay, and 1 point in the 4x100m Relay. Northside needed a total of six more points in the remaining events to clinch their first IHSA Sectional Title!

 Northside turned to Adrian Black and Cesar Rufino in the next event, the 3200m run, to get the remaining points to officially clinch the title. Black and Rufino came through for the Team by scoring 18 points in the 3200m run to clinch the IHSA Sectional Title!!

 In the IHSA Sectional 3200m run, Northside Sophomore Adrian Black ran the first mile in 5:20, and then ran a NEGATIVE split of 5:12 to WIN the IHSA Sectional Title with an official time of 10:32.50. Adrian Black was awarded an IHSA Sectional Champion MEDAL for winning the 3200m run. Northside Junior Cesar Rufino ran the first mile in 5:20, and then ran the final mile in 5:26 to finish in SECOND place and QUALIFY for the IHSA State Championships with an official time of 10:47.63. Cesar Rufino was awarded a MEDAL for finishing in second place. CICS/Northtown Sophomore Bryan Gonzalez finished in third place with an official time of 11:32.06. Muchin Junior David Yanez finished in fourth place with an official time of 11:33.23. Chicago Bulls College Prep Junior Steven Orta finished in fifth place with an official time of 12:06.50. Kelvyn Park Junior Mateo Martinez finished in sixth place to complete the scoring with an official time of 12:32.57.

 Northside scored 18 points in the 3200m run, to clinch their first IHSA Sectional title with 95 points. With nine events remaming, Northside was on pace to score the most points in a Sectional meet in the history of the State of Illinois. However, the focus was now on Northside qualifying additional athletes for the State meet.

 In the IHSA Sectional 110m Hurdle Finals, Northside Junior Lucien Fitzpatrick won the 110m Hurdles to QUALIFY for STATE with an official time of 15.63. Lucien Fitzpatrick was awarded an IHSA Sectional Champion MEDAL for winning the 110m Hurdles. Orr Academy Senior Jordan Scott finished in second place with an official time of 16.84. Northside Sophomore Matt Osborne finished in THIRD with a personal best time of 17.47. Matt Osborne was awarded a MEDAL for finishing in third place. Marshall Sophomore Samuel Davis finished in fourth place with an official time of 18.14. Norridge Ridgewood Junior Mike Liacopolis finished in fifth place with an official time of 21.32. Norridge Ridgewood Freshman Adam Bonifaciuk was disqualified after a false start.

 In the IHSA Sectional 100m Dash Finals, it featured Kelvyn Park Senior Jamal McNeeley. In 2012, Jamal McNeeley finished second in State in the 100m dash, and won the State Title in the 200m dash. In 2013 at IHSA Sectional 100m Dash Finals, Kelvyn Park Senior Jamal Mc Neeley WON the 100m Dash with an official time of 10.93. UIC Junior Koran Ward finished in second place to qualify for State with an official time of 11.20. Urban PRep Junior Jeffery Allgood finished in third place with an official time of 11.20. Marshall Senior Jeremiah Westbrooks finished in fourth place with an official time of 11.41. Marshall Senior Edward Lenon finished in fifth place with an official time of 11.62. Orr Academy Junior Kevin Funches finished in sixth place to complete the scoring with an official time of 11.79. Northside Freshman Jack Svoboda ran an outstanding time of 12.64. Jack Svoboda has emerged this season as the Mustangs top Freshman sprinter, and has tremendous work ethic. Northside Sophomore Gabriel Jiminez-Ekman also emerged this season as one of the Mustangs top sprinters. Gabriel Jiminez-Ekhman had to scratch from the 100m Dash due to a hip injury. Gabriel Jiminez-Ekhman had a great season, and has been a strong anchor for the Mustangs in both the 4x100m and 4x200m Relays, and a points scorer for Northside in the 200m dash. Jack Svoboda and Gabriel Jiminez-Ekman both have big futures for Northside.

 In the IHSA Sectional 800m run, Northside Senior Patrick Brennan and Sophomore Malcolm Grba cruised the first 400m in 64 seconds, and then both ran a NEGATIVE split of 63 seconds to QUALIFY for the IHSA State Championships with a time of 2:07. Patrick Brennan won the IHSA Sectional 800m Title with an official time of 2:07.43. Patrick Brennan was awarded an IHSA Sectional Champion MEDAL for winning the 800m run. Malcolm Grba finished in SECOND place with an official time of 2:07.85. Malcolm Grba was awarded a MEDAL for finishing in second place. Senn Freshman Robel Yemane finished in third place with an official time of 2:11.74. Norridge Ridgewood Senior Steve Wrobel finished in fourth place with an official time of 2:15.53. Chicago UIC Freshman Christian Urena finished in fifth place with an official time of 2:20.04. Chicago Bulls College Prep Senior Jorge Zamora finished in sixth place to complete the scoring with an official time of 2:20.07.

Northside 800m State Qualifiers featured on Chicagoland Preps:

Patrick Brennan and Malcolm Grba 

 In the IHSA Sectional 4x200m Relay, Chicago Prosser won it with an official time of 1:34.69. Chicago Kelvyn Park finished in second place with an official time of 1:36.76. Chicago Bulls College Prep finished in third place with an official time of 1:37.22. Chicago UIC finished in fourth place with an official time of 1:40.61. Norridge Ridgewood finished in fifth place with an official time of 1:41.09. Urban Prep finished in sixth place to complete the scoring with an official time of 1:41.77. Chicago Muchin finished in seventh place with an official time of 1:46.88. Northside Freshman Jack Svoboda, Sophomore Calvin Kuhnen, Freshman Justin Washington, and Sophomore Harry Winters combined to finish in eighth place with an official time of 1:48.82.

 In the IHSA Sectional 400m Dash, Urban Prep Junior Jeremiah Watson won the 400m dash to qualify for the IHSA State Championships with an official time of 51.76. Chicago Bulls College Prep Senior LaZyrick Middlebrooks finished in second place with an official time of 52.01. Northside Sophomore Tom Frejowski finished in THIRD place with an outstanding time of 53.71. Tom Frejowski was awarded a MEDAL for finishing in third place. Muchin Senior Brian Young finished in fourth place with an official time of 54.14. Norridge Ridgewood Senior David Krueger finished in fifth place with an official time of 55.44. Northside Senior Nathaniel Agharese scored his final point for the Mustangs by finishing in sixth place to complete the scoring in the 400m dash with an official time of 58.71. Nathaniel Agharese had been injured the entire outdoor Track & Field season, and gave a tremendous effort for the TEAM. Nathaniel Agharese had an outstanding high school athletic career for Northside, and will be attending Stanford next year on a full scholarship. Nathaniel Agharese holds three school records in the 4x100m Relay, 4x200m Relay, and 4x400m Relay. Nathaniel Agharese also reached the Medal Stand in his Senior year, at the Indoor Illinois Prep Top Times Championships by finishing sixth in Illinois in the 200m dash!

 In the IHSA Sectional 300m Hurdles, the 1-2 punch of Northside Junior Lucien Fitzpatrick and Sophomore Matt Osborne was awesome!! It was the greatest hurdles performances in the history of Northside! Fitzpatrick and Osborne were amazing!!! First, Northside Junior Lucien Fitzpatrick BROKE THE SCHOOL RECORD and WON the IHSA Sectional Title with a personal best time of 43.09. Lucien Fitzpatrick was awarded an IHSA Sectional Champion MEDAL for winning the 300m Hurdles. Lucien Fitzpatrick will also receive a WATERMELON for breaking the school record in the 300m Hurdles! Lucien Fitzpatrick QUALIFIED for State in four events (High Jump, Triple Jump, 110m Hurdles, and 300m Hurdles), and scored a record 38 points in the meet! Lucien Fitzpatrick also BROKE HIS SECOND SCHOOL RECORD of the day by becoiming the first Northside athlete to score over 200 Varsity points in a season! Lucien Fitzpatrick has now scored 223.50 Varsity points going into the IHSA State Championships!!

 IHSA Sectional 300m Hurdle Champion featured on Chicagoland Preps: LUCIEN FITZPATRICK  

 Northside Sophomore Matt Osborne was seeded fourth in the 300m Hurdles prior to the IHSA Sectional Championships. Only the top two athletes qualify for the IHSA State Championships, and Osborne needed to pass two athletes in the race that had faster seed times than him to qualify for the IHSA State Championships. It would take nothing less than a personal best performance to qualify for State.

 The best race comes from within, and Matt Osborne proved it, by upsetting the field, and finishing in SECOND place overall to QUALIFY for the IHSA STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS in the 300m Hurdles with a personal best time of 45.15!!!

 Matt Osborne was awarded a MEDAL for finishing in Second place. Matt Osborne scored a total of 18 points in the meet, to increase his Varsity points total for the season to 108.75 points. Matt Osborne is the first Northside Athlete to ever score over 100 Varsity points, and score over 100 Sophomore points in the same season!!!

 Norridge Ridgewood Freshman Adam Bonifaciuk finished in third place with an official time of 46.68. Marshall Sophomore Samuel Davis finished in fourth place with an official time of 48.05. Marshall Senior Edward Lenon finished in fifth place with an official time of 48.61. Norridge Ridgewood Junior Mike Liacopolis finished in sixth place to complete the scoring with an official time of 50.79.

The IHSA Sectional 1600m run featured Northside Senior Patrick Brennan and Sophomore Malcolm Grba, two of the hardest working, and mentally toughest athletes in the history of Northside College Prep. This season the closest outdoor track to Northside was three miles away because of the reconstruction of River Park Track. Brennan and Grba, frequently had to lead their teammates on a 3 miles warm-up to Chase Park on the corner of Lawrence and Ashland before doing an entire Track workout, on a 320m Track, and then run a 3 miles cool down back to Northside, and then weight training for an hour, and then spend another hour doing core training before leaving Northside as late as 7 pm at night, and that was just the start of their training week on a Monday.

 At the IHSA Sectional Championships, Patrick Brennan and Malcolm Grba received one of their rewards for their hard work this season, by becoming the first Distance runners in the history of Northside to QUALIFY for STATE in FOUR events, including the 4x800m Relay, 800m, 1600m, and 4x400m Relay.

 In the IHSA Sectional 1600m run, Malcolm Grba ran the first 400m in 69 seconds, and then ran the next 400m in 78 seconds (2:27 800m), and then ran the next 400m in a NEGATIVE split of 71 seconds (3:38 1200m), and then ran the final 400m in another NEGATIVE split of 67 seconds to WIN the IHSA Sectional 1600m run with an official time of 4:45.71The Northside coaching staff recorded an even faster time (4:41.71), but are required to use the F.A.T. results as the official time. Malcolm Grba was awarded an IHSA Champion MEDAL for winning the 1600m run. 

 Malcolm Grba scored a total of 20 points in the meet, to bring his Varsity season points total to 117.50 points, going into the IHSA State Championships!!! In the history of Northside, only four athletes have ever scored over 100 Varsity points during their Sophomore season!! In addition, Malcolm Grba also scored 90.75 Sophomore points this season!

 Patrick Brennan ran the first 400m in 70 seconds, and then ran the next 400m in 78 seconds (2:28 800m), and then ran the next 400m in a NEGATIVE split of 72 seconds (3:40 1200m), and then ran the final 400m in another NEGATIVE split of 66 seconds to finish SECOND in the IHSA Sectional 1600m run and QUALIFY for STATE with an official time of 4:46.44. The Northside coaching staff recorded an even faster time (4:42.44), but are required to use the F.A.T. results as the official time. Patrick Brennan was awarded an IHSA MEDAL for finishing in second place.

 Patrick Brennan scored a total of 18 points in the meet, to bring his Varsity season points total to 139.50 points, going into the IHSA State Championships!!! It is the most Varsity points ever scored by a Northside Distance runner. Patrick Brennan currently holds the school record in the 4x800m Relay, and the Middle Distance Medley Relay (200m-200m-400m-800m), and will be seeking to break both the 4x800m Relay school record and the 1600m run school record at the IHSA State Championships!

 In addition to qualifying for State in four Track events this year, Patrick Brennan also qualified for State in Track and Cross Country in his Junior year. The Northside Coaching Staff recently nominated Patrick Brennan for Northside Senior Male Athlete of the Year. Every Head Coach of every sport at Northside will vote on the award , and the winner will be announced at the Senior Awards lunch in June.

 Norridge Ridgewood Senior Steve Wrobel finished in third place with an official time of 5:09.45. Chicago Bulls College Prep Sophomore Jonathan Rico finished in fourth place with an official time of 5:13.61. CICS/Northtown Sophomore Bryan Gonzalez finished in fifth place with an official time of 5:14.71. Chicago UIC Junior Julian Cruz finished in sixth place to complete the scoring with an official time of 5:19.62.
