 In the High Jump, St. Ignatius Senior Sheldon Pierce won it with a leap of 6'1. Northside Senior Lucien Fitzpatrick finished in SECOND place with an outstanding jump of 5'10. Whitney Young Junior Milton Wood finished in third place with a jump of 5'8. Marshall Sophomore Keyon Boyd finished in fourth place with a jump of 5'0. Northside Freshman Artur Kozlowski scored his first Varsity points of high school career with a jump of 4'8 to finish in fifth place overall.

 Northside Senior Simon Kafka returned to practice on Friday, after a three days college visit with the Kalamazoo College Cross Country Team. Kafka enjoyed the visit, but unfortunately returned home ill from the trip, and did not show up to the meet on Saturday.

 In the first 4x800m Relay of the season, Northside needed to make a substitution for Simon Kafka. Although your not allowed to make substitutions in individual events, you are allowed to make a substitution on the day of the meet in a Relay.

 Northside Junior Max McCoy was selected as the substitution for the relay after impressing the coaching staff in the Mustangs most recent workout. The Northside Middle distance runners had an imporant practice scheduled on Abe Lincoln's Birthday at 2 pm on an Indoor 400m Track. Max McCoy couldn't make it to the practice because of an afternoon conflict, and didn't want to miss a day of training. Max McCoy contacted the coaching staff in advance to do an alternative hill workout on the same day at dawn with the coaching staff at Northside. McCoy had a great practice and was scheduled to compete in the open 800m on Saturday.

 Max McCoy was notified upon arrival to the meet that he would be running in the 4x800m Relay in addition to the open 800m run, and he came through big for the TEAM.

 In the 4x800m Relay, Northside Sophomore Danny Rosen ran the first 200m in 30 seconds, and then ran the next 200m in 32 seconds for a 400m split of 62 seconds. Danny Rosen then ran the next 200m in 34 seconds for a 600m split of 1:36. Danny Rosen then ran the final 200m of the first leg of the 4x800m Relay in 31.79 seconds for an 800m split of 2:07.79, and made a nice exchange to Junior Max McCoy. Max McCoy ran the first 200m in 30 seconds, and then ran the next 200m in 33 seconds for a 400m split of 63 seconds. Max McCoy then ran the next 200m in 35 seconds for a 600m split of 1:38. Max McCoy then ran the final 200m of the second leg of the 4x800m Relay in 37.62 seconds for a PERSONAL BEST 800m split of 2:15.62, and made a perfect exchange to Sophomore Matthew Gomez. Matthew Gomez ran the first 200m in 29 seconds, and then ran the next 200m in 34 seconds for a 400m split of 63 seconds. Matthew Gomez then ran the next 200m in 38 seconds for a 600m split of 1:41. Matthew Gomez then ran the final 200m of the third leg of the 4x800m Relay in 32.04 seconds for an 800m split of 2:13.04, and made a nice exchange to Junior Tom Frejowski. At the final exchange, Northside had a lead on both St. Ignatius and Whitney Young. However, there was still one more Team (Walter Payton) to catch. Tom Frejowski closed the gap by running the first 200m in 29 seconds, and then running the next 200m in 33 seconds for a 400m split of 62 seconds. Tom Frejowski then caught Walter Payton by running the next 200m in 36 seconds for a 600m split of 1:38. Tom Frejowski then anchored Northside to Victory by running the final 200m in 35.60 seconds for an 800m split of 2:13.60 and an official time of 8:50.05. Walter Payton finished in second place with an official time of 8:50.93. St. Ignatius finished in third place with an official time of 9:13.38. Whitney Young finished in fourth place with an official time of 9:38.61.

 In the 4x800m "B" Relay, Northside Sophomore Sarrin Chethik came into the meet with an 800m pesonal best time of 2:39.50. On the first leg of the 4x800m Relay, Sophomore Sarrin Chethik dropped 10.50 seconds for a personal best 800m split of 2:29.00. Northside Freshman Jack Webster ran a personal best 800m split of 2:48.00 on the second leg of the relay. Northside Freshman Sergio Soto ran a personal best 800m split of 2:37.99 on the third leg of the relay. Northside Freshman Kyle Friedler anchored the Mustangs with an outstanding 2:35.00 800m split for an official time of 10:29.99.

 In the 4x200m "A" Relay, Northside Sophomore Steven Kataba exploded out of the blocks and ran an impressive 25.68 200m split, and made a nice exchange to Sophomore Keith Jones. Keith Jones ran a 26.29 200m split, and made a good exchange to Junior Calvin Kuhnen. Calvin Kuhnen ran a 28.40 200m split, and made an exchange to Junior Gabriel Jimenez-Ekhman. Gabriel Jimenez-Ekhman anchored the Mustangs to fifth place with an impressive 25.54 200m split for an official time of 1:46.53.

 In the 4x200m "B" Relay, Northside Freshman Jacob Cosby ran the first 200m in 29.20 seconds, and made an exchange to Sophomore Garret Barch. Garret Barch ran a 200m split of 28.40 on the second leg of the relay made an exchange to Junior Harry Winters. Harry Winters ran a 200m split of 28.50, and made a nice exchange to Freshman Josh Borgwardt. Josh Borgwardt anchored the Mustangs by dropping 0.70 of a second (29.70) for a personal best 200m split of 29.00 for an official time of 1:55.26.

 In the 3200m run, Northside Senior Cesar Rufino took the field out at a hard pace, 32 seconds for the first 200m, and 67 seconds for the first 400m. Whitney Young and Walter Payton runners all chased after Rufino through the first 400m, and went out at the same hard pace. Northside Junior Adrian Black ran the first 400m in 75 seconds (pace for a 10:00 3200m), and found himself in last place. Ten runners were in front of Adrian Black. Rufino took the lead pack through the first 800m in 2:26. Adrian Black was still 8 seconds away from the lead pack with an 800m split of 2:34. At 1200m, Adrian Black was one second behind Rufino (3:54), and closed the gap from the lead pack with a split of 3:55. Adrian Black ran the first mile in 5:15, and then passed runners on every lap, running the second mile in 5:26 to finish in THIRD place with an official time of 10:41.16. Cesar Rufino ran the first mile in 5:25, and then ran the final mile in 6:11 to finish in ninth place with an official time of 11:36.38. Rufino knows he went out to fast for a 3200m race, and will be ready to go for the Spartan Indoor Classic.  

 Whitney Young was very impressive in the 3200m run, and scored 24 points in the event. Whitney Young Sophomore Sam Wischnewsky won it with an official time of 10:19.70. Whitney Young Freshman Keduse Worku finished in second place with an official time of 10:19.81. Whitney Young Sophomore Charles Sandberg finished in fourth place with an official time of 10:47.18. Whitney Young Freshman William Szkwarek finished in fifth place with an official time of 10:58.67. Walter Payton Junior Augie Bello finished in sixth place to complete the scoring with an official time of 11:06.32.

 In the 55m High Hurdles, Northside Senior Lucien Fitzpatrick finished in SECOND place with an official time of 8.47. Northside Sophomore Piotr Wojcik ran a personal best time of 11.59. Northside Freshman Jack Nolan ran an outstanding time of 12.92.

 In the 55m Dash, Northside Sophomore Steven Kataba ran an official time of 7.30. Northside Sophomore Keith Jones ran an official time of 7.67. Northside Junior Calvin Kuhnen ran an official time of 7.79. Northside Sophomore Garret Barch ran an official time of 8.19. Northside Freshman Josh Borgwardt ran an official time of 8.23. Northside Freshman Brandon Banas was disqualified after a false start.

 In the 800m run, Northside Junior Malcolm Grba ran the first 200m in 29 seconds, and then ran the next 200m in an EVEN Split of 29 seconds for a 400m Split of 58 seconds. Malcolm Grba then ran the next 200m in 32 seconds for a 600m split of 1:30. Grba was in second place at the 600m mark. Malcolm Grba then ran a NEGATIVE split of 30 seconds and passed St. Ignatius Senior Taylor Dugas on the final lap to WIN the 800m run with a PERSONAL BEST time of 2:00.52. Malcolm Grba also passed Alumni legends Patrick Brennan and Cuitlahuac Pineda Youniss on the All Time list, and ran the second fastest 800m run time in the history of Northside!! Malcolm Grba dropped six seconds (2:06.80) from the Niles West Indoor Classic with a personal best time of 2:00.52. St. Ignatius Senior Taylor Dugas finished in second place with an official time of 2:02.65. Whitney Young Senior Michael Perez finished in third place with an official time of 2:05.39. Whitney Young Freshman Evan Radomski finished in fourth place with an official time of 2:10.47. Whitney Young Sophomore Jason Sebek finished in fifth place with an official time of 2:12.77. Walter Payton Junior Sam LaSota finished in sixth place to complete the scoring with an official time of 2:14.95.

 In 2013, the Class 3A field for the 800m run at the Indoor State Championships (Illinois Prep Top Times) featured six athletes under 2:01. The field size for the Indoor State Championships in the 800m run is 12 athletes. Malcolm Grba is a lock to make the field for the 2014 Class 3A Indoor State Championships. 

 Northside Junior Max McCoy ran the first 200m in 30 seconds, and then ran the next 400m in 34 seconds for a 400m split of 64 seconds. Max McCoy ran the next 200m in 36 seconds for a 600m split of 1:40, and then ran the final 200m in 39 seconds for an official time of 2:19.32.

 Northside Freshman Brian McManus impressed the Northside Coaching Staff, running 43 seconds 300m repeats during Cross Country season. He also finished third in the CPS Freshman Cross Country Championships, and made the Varsity squad. He has a big future in the 800m run. He just recently finished Freshman Basketball season. McManus played as many as four games in a single day throughout the Basketball season. Northside hasn't had him at a Track practice yet, but entered him in the meet for a Time Trial to help plan his future training. His first high school Track practice will take place on Monday. Brian McManus ran an outstanding race on Saturday. He ran the first 200m in 33 seconds, and then ran the next 200m in 35 seconds for a 400m split of 68 seconds. Brian McManus then ran the next 200m in 39 seconds for a 600m split of 1:47. Brian McManus then ran a NEGATIVE split of 38 seconds for a season best time of 2:25.49. It was the fastest 800m time by a Northside Freshman this season.

 Northside Alumni legend Patrick Brennan ran a 2:46 in his first 800m race of his Freshman year of high school, and ended his athletic career with a 2:01 800m split at the IHSA State Track & Field Finals in the 4x800m Relay.

 Northside Junior Joseph Dschida ran the first 200m in 33 seconds, and then ran the next 200m in 37 seconds for a 400m split of 70 seconds. Joseph Dschida ran the next 200m in 41 seconds for a 600m split of 1:51. Joseph Dschida then ran the next 200m in 42 seconds for a PERSONAL BEST 800m time of 2:33.76.

 Northside Freshman Sergio Soto ran the first 200m in 35 seconds, and then ran the next 200m in 37 seconds for a 400m split of 72 seconds. Sergio Soto ran the next 200m in 44 seconds, and then ran the final 200m in 48 seconds for an outstanding time of 2:44.18.

 In the 400m Dash, Northside Junior Tom Frejowski finished in sixth place to complete the scoring with an outstanding time of 56.15. Northside Freshman Brandon Banas ran a PERSONAL BEST time of 58.06. Brandon Banas also ran the fastest 400m time by a Freshman in the meet.
