 On Friday, June 6, 2014, the Northside Track & Field TEAM will be honored at the East Bank Club. The East Bank Club is located at 500 N. Kingsbury Street, Chicago, Illinois 60654. Dinner will be served at 5:45 PM. The Northside Track & Field Banquet has been compared to the Heisman Trophy presentation.

 The Northside Track & Field awards banquet is one of the most meaningful events of the school year. It represents the official acknowledgement of the athletes accomplishments before the entire Team, administration, parents, and guests. A record 150 athletes, parents, and guests will be in attendance! 

 Among other awards, Varsity letters, Junior Varsity letters, Sophomore letters, and Freshman numerals will be awarded at the Track & Field Banquet. 

  The 2014 Northside Track season has been was one of the most successful seasons in the history of Northside College Prep. 30 athletes earned Watermelons and a plaque for breaking a school record in an individual event and/or relay! 

  After finishing in second place for three consecutive years (2011-2012-2013), the Northside Varsity Men WON their first Indoor City TEAM title! Trophies will be awarded at the Banquet to all 21 members of the Indoor City Championship Team, including Relay alternates, and athletes in attendance at the Indoor City Championships to support the TEAM! Northside also won individual City titles in the 4x800m, 800m, 1600m, and 4x400m Relay at the Indoor City Championships. 24K Gold Championship Rings will also be awarded to athletes that won individual titles in the 4x800m (Danny Rosen, Matthew Gomez, Max McCoy, Simon Kafka), 800m (Malcolm Grba), 1600m (Danny Rosen), and 4x400m Relay (Malcolm Grba, Simon Kafka, Danny Rosen, Tom Frejowski) at the Indoor City Championships.

 Northside also had Illinois Prep Top Times Indoor State qualifiers in the 800m run (Malcolm Grba) and 4x800m Relay (Danny Rosen, Simon Kafka, Tom Frejowski, and Matthew Gomez). Northside Junior Malcolm Grba reached the Medal Stand in the 800m run at Illinois Prep Top Times!

 At the Outdoor City Championships, Northside earned ALL CITY HONORS in the 4x800m Relay (Malcolm Grba, Max McCoy, Matthew Gomez, Cesar Rufino), 110m Hurdles (Lucien Fitzpatrick), 400m Dash (Tom Frejowski), High Jump (Lucien Fitzpatrick), Triple Jump (Lucien Fitzpatrick), 800m (Simon Kafka), 1600m (Danny Rosen), and Sophomore 3200m (Kyle Friedler).

 At the IHSA Sectional Championships, Northside earned ALL SECTIONAL HONORS in the Triple Jump (Lucien Fitzpatrick), 4x800m Relay (Matthew Gomez, Max McCoy, Nate Mendez, Cesar Rufino), 400m Dash (Tom Frejowski), 1600m (Danny Rosen), and 4x400m Relay (Malcolm Grba, Simon Kafka, Danny Rosen, Tom Frejowski). 

 Northside also qualified for the IHSA State Track & Field Championships for the SEVENTH consecutive year!! Since 2008, Northside is the only Track Program in the CPS that has qualified for the IHSA State Championships for seven consecutive years! It also the only Sport at Northside that has been to the State Championships for seven consecutive years.

 At the 2014 IHSA State Track & Field Championships, Northside Junior Tom Frejowski ran a personal best 50.82 400m dash. An IHSA State qualifying Medal will be presented to Tom Frejowski at the Banquet. 

 Northside also had several alumni become heros to the Team in NCAA Track & Field Meets  throughout the country! Wesley Laytham at Davidson. Charlie Mesimore at Cornell. Cooper Eben at Duke.

 Mac Melto and Patrick Brennan will be honored on Friday as the 2014 Northside Alumni of the Year. 

 In 2014, as a collegiate Sophomore, Mac Melto came within 0.35 of a second of competing for the National Title! Mac Melto ran a personal best 400m time of 46.94 for NCAA Division I DePaul Blue Demons. Melto also ran faster in the 400m Dash than NINE athletes at the 2012 London Olympics, including:

  In 2014, Mac Melto WON the Indoor Big East Title in the 400m Dash and 4x400m Relay. Mac Melto also WON the Outdoor Big East Title in the 400m Dash and 4x100m Relay. Mac Melto also earned multiple Medals in the 200m dash.

 A special Track & Field Trophy will be presented to Mac Melto as 2014 Northside Alumni of the Year.

 In 2013, as a high school senior, Patrick Brennan qualified for the IHSA State Track & Field Championships in a record four events, 4x800m Relay, 800m, 1600m, and 4x400m Relay. He was also the fourth Track athlete in the history of Northside to win the Senior Male Athlete of the Year Award.

 Since the Fall 2013, Northside Alumni legend Patrick Brennan received instruction and intense training as a member of the Notre Dame Boxing Team in preparation for the 2014 Bengal Bouts Boxing Tournament.

 The Bengal Bouts is an annual charity boxing tournament with the mantra: "Strong Bodies Fight, that Weak Bodies May Be Nourished". In 2014, the tournament was broadcasted on ESPN3, and raised over $100,000.00 for Holy Cross Missions in Bangladesh.

 The tournament was hosted at the Joyce Center at the University of Notre Dame. The Tournament was started by legendary Notre Dame Coach Knute Rockne.

 Patrick Brennan took on fighters that had as many as five years of experience in the sport.

 On Thursday, February 20, 2014, Northside Alumni legend Patrick Brennan upset Conor Durkin to become Quarter-Finals Champion of the Bengal Bouts Boxing Tournament! Patrick Brennan also advanced to the Semi-Finals of the Tournament in his first year of Boxing!

 A special Boxing Trophy will be presented to Patrick Brennan as 2014 Northside Alumni of the Year. 

  Northside will also be honoring ALL of the 2014 Northside Seniors with engraved crystal clocks.The 2014 Senior class had a tremendous impact, during the greatest four years period in Northside Track & Field history, and will be greatly missed by the coaching staff and athletes.

 The following awards will also be announced at the Banquet: Sophomore points leader award, Varsity points leader award (Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, Senior), Sportsmanship, Senior Leadership, Ultimate Frisbee Awards, Academic Award (Freshman, Sophomore, Varsity), Mustang Award for Work Ethic and Mental Toughness (Freshman, Sophomore, Varsity), and MVP Award (Freshman, Sophomore, Varsity).

 The 2015 Northside Track & Field Captains will also be announced at the Banquet.

  A gourmet Italian Buffet Team Dinner will be served at 5:45 pm on Friday, June 6, 2014 at the East Bank Club.

 On Thursday, May 29, 2014, Northside Head Coach Jon Gordon, Assistant Coach Patrick O'Connor, and Sprints Coach Wayne Edelman, traveled to Champaign, Illinois for dinner with IHSA State Qualifier Tom Frejowski and Northside Sophomore Danny Rosen.

 Northside Head Coach Jon Gordon treated his coaching staff, Junior Tom Frejowski and Sophomore Danny Rosen to Dinner at Olive Garden, in Champaign, Illinois. On the eve of the IHSA State Championships, Northside was celebrating a season in which they won the Indoor City Championships for the first time in Northside history, and had 29 athletes break a school record, and that number would reach 30 by the end of the IHSA State Championships.

  After dinner, the Northside Track & Field Team departed for Charleston, Illinois in preparation for the IHSA State Championships at Eastern Illinois University. 

 The Mustangs stayed in an "Olympic Village" atmosphere with State Qualifiers from across the State, in Taylor Hall, which was located less than a block from the stadium. Taylor Hall was complete with a Big Screen Television, Air Hockey Tables, and Pool tables. Athletes also visited Souvenir Shops and a local record store on Friday evening to purchase State Track & Field T-shirts.

 On Friday, May 30, 2014, upon arrival to O'Brien Stadium, Tom Frejowski was given a State Qualifier Pin from the IHSA, along with his race number.  

 As the athletes began warm-ups for the 400m Dash, the stadium was filled close to its capacity, and spectators, fans, and Teams, had to park over a half mile away from the Stadium because of the size of the sell-out crowd. Outside the Stadium, there was a large festival of Track & Field souvenir vendors.

 The 2014 IHSA State Championships was an incredible experience for Northside Junior Tom Frejowski and Sophomore Danny Rosen.

 In the 400m Dash, Northside Captain Tom Frejowski ran a PERSONAL BEST time of 50.82.

 After the IHSA Prelims reached a conclusion, the Northside Track & Field Coaching Staff, and athletes traveled from O'Brien Stadium to Smoky's House BBQ for Dinner. 

 After Dinner, Athletes from around the State, including collegiate athletes, prepared for Open races under the lights at O'Brien Stadium.

 At 7 pm, the Open races commenced, Under the Lights, at O'Brien Stadium.

 In the 1600m run, Northside Assistant Coach Patrick O'Connor ran a season best time of 5:02.67. It was the second fastest time ever run by a Northside Coach at the State Meet. 

 In the 100m Dash, Northside Junior Tom Frejowski ran an outstanding time of 12.11.

 In the 800m run, the field featured 44 athletes, with ten athletes entered with "seed" times of 2:00 or better. Northside Sophomore Danny Rosen ran the first 400m in 56 seconds. Rosen was in second place in his heat at the 400m mark!! Rosen then took the lead, and ran the final 400m in 62 seconds to WIN his heat, and BREAK THE TWO MINUTES BARRIER with a PERSONAL BEST time of 1:58.06. Danny Rosen finished first in his heat, and second overall, out of 44 athletes in the 800m run!! It was also the second fastest 800m time in the history of Northside!!

 In the 1000m Steeplechase, Northside Junior Tom Frejowski BROKE THE SCHOOL RECORD with an official time of 3:07.21. The previous record was 3:29.28. Tom Frejowski broke the school record by 22 seconds with a personal best time of 3:07.21. Tom Frejowski will receive a WATERMELON for breaking the school record, and will be honored with a plaque at the Northside Track & Field Banquet on Friday, June 6, 2014 at the East Bank Club. Northside had 30 athletes break a school record in 2014! Northside Assistant Coach Patrick O'Connor ran a personal best time of 3:17.36 in the 1000m Steeplechase. It was the fastest time ever by a Northside coach in the Steeplechase.

 After the Steeplechase, the TEAM and coaching staff walked from O'Brien Stadium, into town for Pizza. It was an outstanding experience.

  On Thursday, May 22, 2014, the Northside Varsity Men's Track & Field Team traveled to Concordia University in River Forest, Illinois for the IHSA Sectional Championships.

 The Northside Track Team has broken 29 school records during the 2014 Track season. Northside has broken more school records than any TEAM in the State of Illinois during the 2014 season. The records, and personal best performances continued at the IHSA Sectional Championships.

  A year ago (2013), Northside Junior Tom Frejowski finished in third place, and missed qualifying for the IHSA State Championships in the 400m Dash by 1.70 seconds with a 53.71. 

 In the 400m Dash (2014), Northside Junior Tom Frejowski QUALIFIED for the IHSA State Championships by finishing in SECOND place with an outstanding time of 51.55. Tom Frejowski earned All Sectional Honors by placing in the Top Six. Tom Frejowski was also awarded a MEDAL for placing second overall. Tom Frejowski will leave for Charleston, Illinois for the IHSA State Championships on Thursday afternoon. Frejowski will compete in the Prelims on Friday, and the Finals on Saturday.

 Tom Frejowski also anchored Northside to a school record in the Sprint Medley Relay at Spartan Relays on May 2, and will receive a plaque, among other honors, at the June 6, 2014 Track & Field Banquet at the East Bank Club

 A year ago (2013), Northside Sophomore Danny Rosen ran a personal best 1600m time of 5:09.70.

 In the 1600m run (2014), Northside Sophomore Danny Rosen BROKE THE SCHOOL RECORD and finished in third place in the IHSA Sectional with a PERSONAL BEST time of 4:24.15. From Freshman Year to Sophomore Year, Danny Rosen DROPPED 45 SECONDS (5:09.70) in the 1600m run with a personal best time of 4:24.15. Danny Rosen is the most improved Sophomore athlete in the State of Illinois. Danny Rosen will be awarded a Watermelon and honored in practice for breaking the school record in the 1600m run. Danny Rosen earned All Sectional Honors by placing in the Top Six. Danny Rosen was also awarded a MEDAL for placing THIRD overall.The Northside Coaching Staff has also invited Rosen to travel with Tom Frejowski to the IHSA State Championships, and compete in the 800m run at the State meet in the open races at O'Brien Stadium on Friday night. Rosen accepted the invitation, and was at practice at dawn, on Memorial Day, running 300m repeats in preparation for the race.

 Danny Rosen scored the Most Varsity points (132.75 points) by a Northside Sophomore Athlete in 2014. From 2013 (32.25 points) to 2014, Danny Rosen increased his Varsity points total by over 100 points. Rosen will be honored with a Sophomore Varsity points trophy, among other honors, at the June 6, 2014 Track & Field Banquet at the East Bank Club.

 In the Shot Put, Northside Junior Ari Perlmutter finished in seventh place with a season best throw of 40'00! Northside Freshman Jacob Cosby finished in 18th place with a throw of 33'11.

 In the Discus, Northside Senior Henry Lothschutz finished in ninth place with a PERSONAL BEST throw of 108'06. Lothschutz improved by 5'0 from 2013 to 2014. Henry Lothschutz also mentored many of the Northside throwers this season. Northside Sophomore Gabriel Krell finished in 20th place with a throw of 70'07.

 In the Pole Vault, Northside Sophomore Xavier Sigelko made three outstanding attempts at 8'6, but was unable to clear it. Northside Senior Jay Yu did not show up to the meet. 

 In the High Jump, Northside Captain Ari Perlmutter finished in sixth place to complete the scoring with a PERSONAL BEST jump of 5'7. Perlmutter was awarded a MEDAL for finishing in sixth place in the High Jump with a leap of 5'7. Ari Perlmutter also earned ALL SECTIONAL HONORS by finishing in the Top 6. Northside Senior Lucien Fitzpatrick finished in ninth place with a leap of 5'5. 

 In the Long Jump, Northside Junior Porter Abbey finished in seventh place with an outstanding jump of 18'7.50. Porter Abbey helped break FOUR schools records this season, including the 400m Hurdles, the Triple Jump Relay, 4x110m High Hurdles Shuttle Relay, and the 4x110m Low Hurdles Shuttle Relay. Porter Abbey is also a tremendous asset to the Northside Cross Country Team, and is one of the Mustangs Top 7 Distance runners. Northside Freshman Brandon Banas finished in 17th place with a jump of 15'07.00.

 In the Triple Jump, Northside Senior Lucien Fitzpatrick came into the IHSA Sectional Championships needing only 0.26 of a point to break the school record for points in a season (223.50). However, after an outstanding City Championship meet, Fitzpatrick was only able to attend one of the eight practices leading up to the IHSA Sectional Championships. He also injured himself during the 110m Hurdles Prelims. Lucien Fitzpatrick overcame both those obstacles, and scored two points in the Triple Jump by finishing in fifth place overall to BREAK THE SCHOOL RECORD for points in a season (225.50). Lucien Fitzpatrick was awarded a MEDAL for finishing in fifth place in the Triple Jump with a jump of 39'04.25. Lucien Fitzpatrick also earned ALL SECTIONAL HONORS by finishing in the Top 6.

 In 2014, Lucien Fitzpatrick became the first Northside athlete to score over 200 points in back to back seasons. Lucien Fitzpatrick broke the school record for 110m Hurdles, 4x110m High Hurdles Shuttle Relay, 4x110m Low Hurdles Shuttle Relay, and the Most Varsity points scored in a season (223.50). Fitzpatrick also holds the school record for 300m Hurdles, and the Middle Distance Medley Relay. Fitzpatrick holds a total of SIX School Records, and is one of the greatest athletes in the history of Northside. Lucien Fitzpatrick will be honored with the Senior Varsity points trophy, among other honors, at the June 6, 2014 Track & Field Banquet at the East Bank Club.

 The Top 6 athletes in the Triple Jump at IHSA Sectionals were ALL Seniors. The top returning jumper is Northside Junior Matt Osborne. Matt Osborne finished in seventh place with an outstanding jump of 37'11.75. Matt Osborne also helped break THREE schools records this season, including the Triple Jump Relay, 4x110m High Hurdles Shuttle Relay, and the 4x110m Low Hurdles Shuttle Relay.

 In the 100m Dash Prelims, Northside Sophomore Philip Wdowiak was the fourth fastest Sophomore in the meet with an official time of 12.33. Northside Sophomore Keith Jones was injured during the race and finished in 22nd overall with an official time of 12.93.

 In the 110m Hurdles Prelims, Northside Junior Porter Abbey finished in ninth place with a PERSONAL BEST time of 17.13. Northside Senior Lucien Fitzpatrick hit one of the hurdles very hard, and finished in 12th place with an official time of 19.35.

 A year ago (2013), Northside Junior Adrian Black ran an official time of 10:32.50 at IHSA Sectionals in the 3200m run. Northside Senior Cesar Rufino ran an official time of 10:47.63 at IHSA Sectionals in the 3200m run.

 In the 3200m run (2014), Northside Junior Adrian Black ran the first mile in 5:01, and then ran the final mile in 5:11 to finish in ninth place with an outstanding time of 10:12.47. Adrian Black DROPPED TWENTY seconds from the 2013 IHSA Sectional (10:32.50) to the 2014 IHSA Sectional (10:12.47). Adrian Black also ran a the fourth fastest time in the history of Northside (10:05.19) this season, at the 2014 Niles West Paul Gans Invitational.

 At the 2013 Freshman Cross Country Championships, Northside Freshman Kyle Friedler finished in 18th place to earn All City Honors with an outstanding time of 11:57.23. 

 At 2014 IHSA Sectional Track & Field Championships, Kyle Friedler DROPPED ONE MINUTE and 9 SECONDS from the Freshman Cross Country Championships (11:57.23) with a PERSONAL BEST 3200m time of 10:48.14.

 At the 2014 Sophomore-Freshman City Track & Field Championships, Kyle Friedler was the Mustangs top points scorer. Kyle Friedler also dropped 14 seconds from the City Track & Field Championships (11:02.64) at IHSA Sectionals, with a personal best time of 10:48.14. Kyle Friedler ran the first mile in 5:19, and then ran the final mile in 5:29 for a personal best time of 10:48.14.

 Kyle Friedler broke the 11 minutes barrier for the first time, and passed Alumni legend Preston Buehrer for the 16th fastest time in Northside history! Kyle Friedler could make the jump from the Freshman Cross Country Team to the Varsity Cross Country Team in 2014. Kyle Friedler was also the second fastest Freshman in the IHSA Sectional.

 In the 200m Dash Prelims, Northside Sophomore Philip Wdowiak and Junior Gabriel Jiminez-Ekhman have both had a big year. Most recently, they helped break the school record in the Sprint Medley Relay at Spartan Relays on May 2. Along with Steven Kataba and Tom Frejowski, Philip Wdowiak and Gabriel Jiminez will receive plaques for breaking the school record in the Sprint Medley Relay at the June 6, 2014 Track & Field Banquet at the East Bank Club.

 Prior to Thursday, Philip Wdowiak had a personal record of 24.80 for the 200m Dash. At IHSA Sectional Championships, Philip Wdowiak DROPPED 0.29 of a second for a PERSONAL BEST time of 24.51. Wdowiak has anchored the Mustangs to several victories in the 4x100m Relay during the outdoor season, and the 4x135 Yards Relay during the indoor season. Philip Wdowiak is a three sports athlete, and also competes in Soccer and Hockey.

 Prior to Thursday, Gabriel Jimenez-Ekhman had a person record of 24.64 for the 200m Dash. At the IHSA Sectional Championships, Gabriel Jimenez-Ekhman DROPPED 0.05 of a second for a PERSONAL BEST time of 24.59.  Gabriel Jiminez-Ekhman later anchored the Northside 4x200m Relay to an important heat victory (1:37.95) at the IHSA Sectional Championships!

 In the 4x800m Relay, two Northside Seniors, Nate Mendez and Cesar Rufino, were on a mission to earn All Sectional Honors and MEDALS in their final high school race of their career. The Top Six Relays would be awarded Medals and All Sectional Honors. Mendez and Rufino would have the help of two great athletes, Sophomore Matthew Gomez and Junior Max McCoy.

 This season, among other honors, Northside Junior Max McCoy dropped 26 seconds in the 1600m run (5:22.90), and broke the five minutes barrier in the 1600m run with a 4:54.88. Max McCoy also dropped four seconds in the 800m (2:16) with a personal best time of 2:12.60. Max McCoy also helped the Mustangs win the 4x800m Relay at the Indoor City Championships, Eric Nelson Classic, and the St. Viator Invitational. Max McCoy has the potential with a strong summer running base to develop into one of the Mustangs top five runners on the Varsity Cross Country Team in 2014.

 This season, among other honors, Northside Sophomore Matthew Gomez, ran a personal best 2:10.80 800m, and a personal best 55.51 400m. Matthew Gomez also won the 800m run in the Sophomore division at the Mike VanDeveer Invitational. Matthew Gomez also helped the Northside Varsity win the 4x800m Relay at the Indoor City Championships, Eric Nelson Classic, and the Highland Park Twilight Invitational. Matthew Gomez also helped the Northside Varsity win the 4x400m Relay at the Deerfield Warrior Classic. Matthew Gomez also competed at the Indoor State Championships (Illinois Prep Top Times) in the Class 3A 4x800m Relay. Matthew Gomez was also a member of the Northside Varsity Top 7 Cross Country runners in 2013.

 Prior to IHSA Sectionals, Northside Senior Nate Mendez had a 1600m personal best of 4:56.55, and an 800m personal best of 2:16.42. Mendez would smash his 800m personal record in his final high school race (2:12.06). Nate Mendez also holds the school record for the 1.5k Steeplechase with a 3:29.28. Nate Mendez was a three sports athlete, and competed in Cross Country, Basketball, and Track.

 During his high school athletic career, Northside Senior Cesar Rufino qualified for the IHSA State Cross Country Championships in 2011, the IHSA State Track & Field Championships as an alternate for the 4x800m Relay in 2012, and the IHSA State Track & Field Championships in the 3200m run in 2013. Cesar Rufino had career bests in the 800m (2:10.61 - Relay Split), 1600m (4:56.60), 3200m (10:24.26), and 3 Miles (16:20.01). Rufino was also awarded the Questbridge Scholarship to Dartmouth. Cesar Rufino was also awarded the Triple Impact Competitor Scholarship by the Positive Coaching Alliance (PCA). The Triple Impact Competitor Scholarship is awarded to the one who strives to impact sport on three levels by improving oneself, teammates, and the sport as a whole.

 In the 4x800m Relay, Northside Sophomore Matthew Gomez ran the first 400m in 63 seconds, and then ran the final 400m in 72 seconds for an 800m split of 2:15.99, and then made an exchange to Junior Max McCoy. Max McCoy ran the first 400m in 67 seconds, and then ran the final 400m in 70 seconds for an 800m split of 2:17.63, and then made an exchange to Senior Nate Mendez. Nate Mendez put Northside in sixth place by running the first 400m in 63 seconds, and then running the final 400m in 69 seconds for a PERSONAL BEST 800m split of 2:12.06, and then made a perfect exchange to Senior Cesar Rufino. Cesar Rufino anchored Northside to the Medal Stand, by running the first 400m in 62 seconds, and then running the final 400m in 74 seconds for a 2:16.01 800m split to finish in sixth place with an official time of 9:02.42. Matthew Gomez, Max McCoy, Nate Mendez, and Cesar Rufino were awarded MEDALS for earning ALL SECTIONAL HONORS and finishing in sixth place overall.
