 The benchmark for elite high school milers is the five minutes barrier. 

 In the Sophomore 1600m run, Northside Sophomore Kyle Friedler BROKE THE FIVE MINUTES BARRIER with a PERSONAL BEST time of 4:54.53 to WIN the Sophomore 1600m run! Friedler dropped six seconds (5:00.07) from the Niles West Wolves Indoor Classic. Kyle Friedler also ran the 19th fastest 1600m run time in the history of Northside! Kyle Friedler ran the first 800m in 2:27, and then ran the final 800m in an EVEN split of 2:27 for a personal best time of 4:54.53.

 New Trier's Brachmann finished in second place with an official time of 5:02.80.

 Northside Sophomore Alex Ortiz dropped 34 seconds (5:39.38) to finish in THIRD place with a PERSONAL BEST time of 5:05.83. Alex Ortiz ran the first 800m in 2:29, and then ran the final 800m in 2:36 for a personal best time of 5:05.83.

 Waukegan's Garcia finished in fourth place with an official time of 5:08.2. Schuamburg's Zulinski finished in fifth place with an official time of 5:21.65. New Trier's Borg's finished in sixth place to complete the scoring with an official time of 5:24.36.

 Northside scored 16 points in the 1600m run!!

 In the Sophomore 200m Dash, Morgan Park's Shannon won it with an official time of 25.22. Schaumburg's Galovich finished in second place with an official time of 25.25. Evanston's Mellanson finished in third place with an official time of 25.88. Evanston's Henry finished in fourth place with an official time of 26.18. Northside Sophomore Josh Borgwardt finished in FIFTH place with an official time of 26.94. Morgan Park's Richardson finished in sixth place to complete the scoring with an official time of 27.09. Northside Freshman Carel Jones ran a personal best time of 27.63. Northside Freshman Nick Brown ran an outstanding time of 28.00.

 In the Sophomore Weight Man's 4x160m Relay, Northside finished in SECOND place with an official time of 1:40.70. Northside Freshman Jonathan Liu ran a 26.39 160m split on the first leg of the relay. Northside Sophomore Vladimir Andrade ran an impressive 22.56 160m split on the second leg of the relay. Northside Sophomore Carlos Saldana ran a 28.25 160m split on the third leg of the relay. Northside Sophomore Christion Guerrero anchored Northside to second place with an impressive 23.40 160m split for an official time of 1:40.70.

 In the Sophomore Indoor Middle Distance Medley Relay, Northside Sophomore Sergio Soto ran an outstanding 60.68 400m split on the first leg of the relay. Northside Sophomore Charles Jones ran a 22.88 160m split on the second leg of the relay. Northside Sophomore Khizar Nandoliya ran a 23.94 160m split on the third leg of the relay. Northside Sophomore Brian McManus outkicked a runner from New Trier at the finish line to WIN the 1,520m Relay with a 2:25.28 800m split for an official time of 4:12.78. Northside WON the Indoor Middle Distance Medley Relay with an official time of 4:12.78. New Trier finished in second place with an official time of 4:13.01. Evanston finished in third place with an official time of 4:14.93. Morgan Park finished in fourth place with an official time of 5:08.13.

 In the Sophomore 4x400m Relay, Northside ran out of athletes, and had to scratch the event. Evanston won it with an official time of 3:59.07. New Trier finished in second place with an official time of 4:02.00. Schaumberg finished in third place with an official time of 4:15.37. Morgan Park finished in fourth place with an official time of 4:18.75.

 New Trier won the Sophomore division with 114 points. Evanston finished in second place with 111 points. Schaumberg finished in third place with 110 points. Northside finished in fourth place with 90 points! Morgan Park finished in fifth place with 51 points. Waukegan finished in sixth place with 39 points. Julian finished in seventh place with 0 points.

 After two meets, the Northside Sophomore Boys Team has a record 10-5!   

 On Friday, February 6, 2015, the Northside Varsity Track & Field TEAM traveled to Skokie, Illinois for the Niles West Wolves Indoor Classic. 

 The Niles West Wolves Indoor Classic featured Niles North, Northtown Academy, Taft, Northside College Prep, Perspective Charter Leadership, Von Steuben, Perspective Charter IIT Math & Science, North Lawndale, Schurz, and host Niles West.

 A special thanks to Niles West Head Coach Chris Vivone, Distance Coach Michael Grossman, and staff for hosting an outstanding meet. Northside would also like to thank IHSA official Lawrence Genge and crew for an outstanding job officiating the Niles West Wolves Indoor Classic.

 The opening of the Indoor Track & Field season is a special day. A Track & Field meet features 18 events, with non-stop action on the Track, and events being run simutaneously in the Field, including Shot Put, Long Jump, Triple Jump, and High Jump. The first recorded Track & Field meet dates back to the Anicent Olymic Games, in 776 B.C. in Olympia, Greece.

 In 2013, the Chicago Northside Varsity Men scored 54.50 points at Niles West.

 In 2014, the Chicago Northside Varsity Men scored 65.50 points at Niles West.

 In 2015, the Chicago Northside Varsity Men scored 99.00 points at the Niles West Wolves Indoor Classic!

 Individual events and Relays were scored 10-8-6-4-2-1.   

 Northside College Prep keeps track of every point scored throughout the season. If an athlete scores a Varsity point in a Track meet, the athlete is awarded a Varsity letter. Every point scored is vital to the success of the TEAM. Several Championship meets have been determined by a single point.

 The first Track event of the night was the 1000m run. The school record for the 1000m run was held by Alumni legend Cooper Eben (Duke) with a 2:51.10 in 2010. In 2010, Cooper Eben was also honored at graduation with the Senior Male Athlete of the Year Award. The school record in the 1000m run has lasted five years.

 In the Varsity 1000m run, Northside Senior Malcolm Grba exploded off the starting line, and took the lead from the start of the race. Grba ran the first 200m in 31 seconds, and then ran 160m splits of 25 seconds (56 seconds for 360m), 28 seconds (1:24 for 520m), a negative split of 27 seconds (1:51 for 680m), 28 seconds (2:19 for 840m) and then Grba received a challenge from a Niles North runner on the final lap. Grba responded by running the final 160m in a NEGATIVE split of 26.62 to BREAK THE SCHOOL RECORD and WIN the 1000m run with an official time of 2:45.62. Malcolm Grba will be honored in practice on Monday with a Watermelon for breaking the school record in the 1000m run!

 Northside Junior Michael Rupprecht ran the first 200m in 36 seconds, and then ran 160m splits of 30 seconds (66 seconds for 360m), 33 seconds (1:39 for 520m), 35 seconds (2:14 for 680m), 36 seconds (2:51 for 840m), and then ran the final 160m in a NEGATIVE split of 35 seconds to finish in 12th place with a personal best time of 3:26.55.

 No spikes were used in any of the events at Niles West. Athletes used racing flats on the 160m Track.

 In 2015, the Chicago Northside Sophomore Boys scored 69.00 points at the Niles West Wolves Indoor Classic!

 Individual events and Relays were scored 10-8-6-4-2-1.

 In the Sophomore Shot Put, Northside Sophomore Jacob Cosby WON it with an outstanding throw of 37'4. Jacob Cosby scored the first 10 points of the meet by winning the Shot Put!!

 One of the highlights of the day was the Sophomore 1600m race. The bench mark for elite high school milers is the 5:00 barrier.

 A year ago (2014), Kyle Friedler ran a 5:48.80 at the Niles West Indoor Classic.

 After a strong summer of building his mileage base, Kyle Friedler made the Varsity Cross Country Team in the Fall, and competed in the IHSA Cross Country Sectional Championships.

 Just days after Cross Country season ended, Kyle Friedler was already training for Track, and continued to train consistently throughout the winter.

 In January 2015, Kyle Friedler made the Mustangs fastest training group with Malcolm Grba and Danny Rosen. At the first Indoor Track workout, Friedler ran 9x400m at a pace that was seven seconds faster than his goal pace!! The Northside Coaching staff immediately informed him that he was ready for the five minute mile barrier.

 In the Sophomore 1600m run, Northside Sophomore Kyle Friedler ran the first 800m in 2:28, and then ran the final 800m in 2:32 to finish in SECOND place with a PERSONAL BEST time of 5:00.07. In one year, Kyle Friedler dropped 48.73 seconds (5:48.80) from 2014 Niles West Indoor Classic! The best is yet to come! Friedler will be the next Northside athlete to break the five minutes barrier!

 Friedler also ran one of the fastest sophomore 1600m times ever recorded in the first meet of the season. School record holder, Danny Rosen, as a Sophomore, won the 1600m run with a 5:04.10 at the Niles West Indoor Classic in 2014.

 In the Freshman Long Jump, Northside Freshman Mason Sotomayor finished in fourth place with a jump of 10'7

 In the Freshman High Jump, Northside Freshman Asher Rappaport finished in SECOND place with a leap of 4'6.

 In the Freshman Shot Put, Northside Freshman Jonathan Liu improved by 2'8 (18'2) with a PERSONAL BEST throw of 20'10.

 In the Freshman 1000m Run, Northside Freshman Kyle Lowenthal finished in FIFTH place with a PERSONAL BEST time of 3:21.90. Kyle Lowenthal ran the first 200m in 37 seconds, and then ran 160m splits of 32, 33, 35, 33, and then ran the final 160m in a NEGATIVE split of 31 seconds for an official time of 3:21.90.

 Northside Freshman Sebastien Vondrak finished in eighth place in the 1000m run with a PERSONAL BEST time of 3:50.66. Sebastien Vondrak ran the first 200m in 36 seconds, and then ran 160m splits of 34, 35, 41, 42, and then ran the final 160m in an EVEN split of 42 seconds for an official time of 3:50.66.

 In the Freshman 55m High Hurdles, Northside Freshman Asher Rappaport finished in fourth place overall with a PERSONAL BEST time of 12.12.

 In the Freshman 50m Dash, Northside Freshman Carel Jones finished in THIRD place with a personal best time of 6.72. Northside Freshman Nicholas Brown finished in FIFTH place with a personal best time of 6.78. Northside Freshman Jonathan Liu ran a personal best time of 8.28.

 In the Freshman 800m run, Northside Freshman Mason Sotomayor finished in SIXTH place to complete the scoring with a PERSONAL BEST time of 2:43.29. Mason Sotomayor ran 160m splits of 28, 32, 34, 37 and then ran the final 160m in a NEGATIVE split of 32 seconds for an official time of 2:43.29.

 In the Varsity Triple Jump, in 2014, Matt Osborne jumped 35'10 at Niles West. In 2015, Senior Matt Osborne jumped 38'6 to WIN the Triple Jump competition! Osborne improved by almost 3'0 from the 2014 Niles West Wolves Indoor classic.

 In 2014, Keith Jones had a personal record of 31'10.5 in the Triple Jump. In 2015, Junior Keith Jones improved by almost 3'0 to finish in SECOND place with a personal best jump of 34'7.

 In the Varsity Long Jump, Northside Senior Matt Osborne finished in SECOND place with a PERSONAL BEST jump of 17'10.5. Northside Sophomore Brandon Banas finished in fourth place with a jump of 16'7.25.

 In the Varsity Shot Put, Northside Senior Tom Frejwoski threw an outstanding 30'10.25.
