Von Steuben High School should sound familiar to Mott basketball fans: it's the same school that produced former Mott player Jeremie Simmons, a two-time national title winner and National Player of the Year while at Mott.

The Illinois Spartans Top Ferrari 61-57 To Win The 17-U Title, and NIBA Tops Illinois Anomolies To Capture The 15-U Title Over The Weekend At The PEP Fall Classic

The Illinois Spartans used a dramatic comeback to defeat Ferrari 61-57 to win the 17-U division. Devante Jones (Chicago North Lawndale) was named MVP of the event. NIBA defeated the Illinois Anomolies 53-50 to win the 15-U title over the weekend at the PEP Fall Classic.

The Spartans trailed by four points with under two minutes remaining in the game, but came back to life with their 3-point shooting to pull out the comeback win. In addition to Jones, Eric Jackson (Chicago Crane) and Kevin Swanson (Chicago Kenwood) both also had strong weekends for the Spartans. Nate Brooks (Chicago Whitney Young ) and Thomas Hamilton (Chicago Whitney Young) led the way with Ferrari.

JayQuan Lee (West Aurora) was named MVP of the 15-U division after hitting big shots throughout the weekend to propel NIBA to the title. Brian Jefferson (Waubonsie Valley) and Ray Velazquez (East Aurora) also had came up big for NIBA. Tevin King (Chicago Providence St. Mel) and Khalil Small (Chicago Providence St. Mel) led the way for the Illinois Anomolies.

The event was fiercely competitive throughout the weekend, and featured 8 overtime games. Some of the top efforts included a three-overtime thriller between NIBA and Mac Irvin Fire which saw Ryan Boatright (East Aurora) and Wayne Blackshear (Chicago Morgan Park) go head-to-head.

New Mexico-bound Abdel Nader (Niles North), Tyrone Sherman (Homewood-Flossmoor) and the Illinois had a thrilling matchup against Alonso Singletary (Chicago North Lawndale), Kieran Woods (Chicago Crane), DeAngelo Thigpen (Chicago North Lawndale) and the Chicago Demons.

Marquell Small (Rich South), Javonte Johnson (Thornwood), Brad Foster (Lincoln-Way), Ryan Jackson (Riverside-Brookfield) and Joe Edwards (St. Joseph) also had strong weekends.

The Rising Stars defeated the Illinois Rangers to win the Silver Division of the 17-U bracket.

King James Results and ICON/Jaguars Results

16U Won the pool in the King James Showcase beating teams from Iowa and Minnesota. Eventually, we lost to the Rockford Ambassadors in the Sweet Sixteen Round.

15U Came in the second their pool beating a team to Iowa but losing to a team from Ohio.  Losing to the Rockford Wildcats in the Sweet Sixteen of the Silver Division.

 

13U went 2-2 in the ICON/Jaguars shootout this weekend at Whitney Young HS.

The 12U/6th Grade Demons Team takes second in Derrick Rose Showdown.  It took two overtimes to beat the determined Demons!
