by BEN MUNRO Pittard ‘all over the field’ in four-sack night
A’tavius Pittard’s standout night against Winder-Barrow was certainly reflected in the stat box.
And the stat that grabs the most attention: four sacks.
“I think the stats speak for themselves,” Raider head coach Randell Owens said. “He was all over the field. He had the best game of his life.”
When he wasn’t tackling Bulldogg quarterback Greg Dixon behind the line of scrimmage, the defensive end was making plenty of plays elsewhere.
Pittard finished with 13 tackles, broke up three passes and caused one fumble. Pittard now leads the team 5.5 sacks and is fifth on the squad with 55 tackles.
Owens noted that Pittard, who played on the scout team last year, has really turned things around academically in order to be eligible for football.
“He set football as a goal; he’s kind of a success story,” he said.
Coaches Name Several to Honor Roll Madison County coaches put quite a few names on the team’s honor roll list for their efforts in Friday’s 27-6 victory over Winder-Barrow.
Al Allen had perhaps the most versatile night, racking up 143 yards of total offense (100 yards of that came on the ground on 13 carries) and one touchdown while returning an interception for an 81-yard score defensively. He also had three tackles and broke up a pass.
Jack Orr’s special teams efforts including converting 3-of-3 extra point tries, hitting 2-of-2 field goals and averaging 30 yards on four punts, one of which pinned Winder-Barrow down inside the 10 yard line.
Brent Russell graded out at 86 percent at offensive tackle while recording nine tackles and one pass break-up defensively. He also had one blocked kick.
A’tavius Pittard had three solo tackles, six assists, four sacks, caused a fumble and broke up three passes in a career night.
Cody Escoe upped his team-leading total of tackles to 101 with five solo stops and five assists this past Friday.
