Posted by Larry Mills on Mar 04 2006 at 04:00PM PST
The Invaders were able to get a close opening victory against the Breakers. The Invaders' rust showed as they started off slowly and had to punt on their first position. The Invaders' defense played tough and forced the Breakers to turn the ball over on downs. QB Michael Hawkins led the Invaders on a scoring drive before the half, completing key passes to blocking backs Aaron Kinchen and Danny Gay. After completing a pass to Kinchen at the 1-yard line, Hawkins scored on the next play on a quarterback sneak. Kicker Brian Basielo kicked a successful 2-point conversion to put the Invaders up 8-0. CB Derrick Williams also came up with an interception in the first half, after a deflected pass by Rusher Tim Black. The Breakers received the ball to begin the second half and the Invaders' defense came up big again, forcing the Breakers to turn the ball over on downs. Hawkins sealed the game with a 39-yard run to make the final score 14-0. Basielo's second 2-point conversion attempt was unsuccessful. Invaders' Scoring Summary - 14 ------------------------- 6 - Hawkins 1 yard run 2 - Basielo conversion kick 6 - Hawkins 39 yard run Invaders' Interceptions - 1 ------------------------ 1 - D.
