NFL SUPERMATCH  HUGE SUCCESS! ~ WE HAD 30 WISCONSIN TWISTER WINNERS AND YOUR  LEO T. JACKSON SCHOLORSHIP FUND IS GOING TO HAVE A GREAT 1st YEAR KICK OFF ~ THANK YOU DAVE CHARS AND TWISTER FAMILIES FOR A JOB WELL DONE ~ NOW ONTO HOOPS MANIA ~ GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE PLAYING HOOPS **********************

Twister Families,

The club is running two fundraisers this winter.

The first is called FootballMania Super Match which is modeled after the popular Super Bowl “squares” pools that many participate in on Super Bowl Sunday.  Ticket holders with a FootballMania Super Match ticket will receive four combinations of numbers from which they can try to match to the scores at the end of each quarter.  The more combinations a ticket holder matches, the more money they win!  The cost of each card is $5 and all proceeds will be dedicated to the Leo T. Jackson / Wisconsin Twisters Scholarship Fund which you will be hearing more about shortly.  You can find more information about the FootballMania Super Match at the following link: http://www.charitymania.com/FootballManiaSM.aspx

The second fundraiser is called HoopsMania, which many of you are familiar with from last winter.  HoopsMania is based on college basketball’s exciting post season tournament.  I had a lot of positive feedback last year with ticket holders having a blast while playing along with the game.  This year’s prize money is determined differently with pay-outs going to the top 28 cardholders, so there are many chances to win.  The cost of each of these cards is $10.  This fundraiser has two objectives: 1) Helping supplement player fees and sponsor donations (player fees do not cover the entire cost of putting a player on the field), and 2) The fundraiser gives families an opportunity to recoup some of their funds by requesting $7 be returned to the club for each ticket sold; therefore, Twister families can earn $3 for each $10 ticket sold.  I have attached a link to a sample ticket for more information:

http://www.charitymania.com/images/Sample-tickets-for-printing-Hoops10.pdf

Both of these fundraisers are web-based and very easy to follow.  Anytime you want to check the status of a ticket or access the digital music package offered on the site, visit the CharityMania website at http://charitymania.com and enter your ticket number.  The Twisters will contact all winning ticketholders whether they choose to follow their card on the website or not.

I plan on handing out tickets during Saturday practices and also plan on using parent reps/coaches to help pass out tickets.  If you would like tickets sooner, please contact me so that we can make arrangements.  Here is my contact information: dachars@scj.com, dachars@aol.com or call 835-2753.

Once again, I hope you take the opportunity to participate in these fundraisers.  I understand that some people may not have the occasion or may not feel comfortable selling tickets. If that’s the case, I hope you would consider purchasing a ticket or two for yourself or a family member.

Regards,

Dave Chars

Amber J. 18UBS
and Alecia F. 18UBS both made the Racine County All-Area Team. See quotes from the MyRacineCounty.com article below:

Catcher

Alecia Faber, jr., Union Grove Union High School: Faber's small stature hides a fierce ability behind the plate - one so good that Boylen said a coach scouting his team resolved never to try to steal against Faber.

"He wrote down in his book, 'Do not run unless (the ball) gets caught in the backstop," Boylen said. "Alecia provides the team with great flexibility both offensively and defensively and that is a blessing as a coach."

Faber also batted .380 this year with 27 hits, 18 runs scored and 16 RBI - including the winning run in the state semifinals against Oconto Falls.

Infielders

Amber Johnson, jr., Union Grove Union High School: Just how dangerous was Johnson at the plate this year? In the state semifinals, the Oconto Falls pitcher purposely walked her to get to Faber.

Johnson finished the season with 43 RBI off of 38 hits. She also had eight doubles, four triples and a home run.

"Amber is a hard-nosed girl that swings a big bat for us," Boylen said. "Amber has explosive pop in her bat and when she is on, you aren't going to be able to get the ball by her."

She also went errorless at first base for the Broncos this season.

6/9/11
Emily J. 16UDB
broke her school's all time individual season pitching record for least walks/game! Her record is 0.19 (she pitched 63.6 innings, with 12 walks).

6/8/11
Amber J. 18UBS is sitting near the top of the state's RBI leader board. Her 41 'knocks' for the season have her currently ranked 6th for all Wisconsin H.S. softball players. Keep the RBIs coming Amber!

6/7/11
Autumn K. 14UMRT
participated in the Heritage Music Festival, an international music competition, in March in Orlando Fla. She was part of her school's Swing Choir and the Madrigal Choir, which both took first place (won the gold rating). The Madrigal Choir also won a invitation to perform at Carnegie Hall in New York City.  The whole music department won the "Festival Sweepstakes" awarding them the biggest trophy, due to the highest combined score out of 300 schools.

5/25/11
Jaelen W. 16UDB is the sole fresh(wo)man on the OCHS varsity track team to move past the Conference meets to qualify to compete in the Regionals and Sectionals in her event of the 4 x 100 relay (Getting ever closer to qualifying for State meet in early June). She clocked her personal best for the season at running the 100 in 12.3 seconds!
She has also made honor society....way to go Speedy 9!

5/12/11
Sam K. 18UBS was named the Racine Journal Times' Athlete of the Week. Sam, a senior for Racine Lutheran, is the Crusaders' only pitcher. She pitched six games last week, including three Saturday, going 5-1.

Sam began her week Tuesday, May 3 by pitching a no-hitter against St. Catherine's in a 13-0 victory. She was a walk away from a perfect game and she struck out 11.

5/6/11
Congratulations to the Union Grove H.S. softball team for being named the Racine Journal Times' Sports Team of the Week on May 4th. Many Twisters are part of the UGHS Broncos, including the assistant coach Brian J. (18UBS). The team recently won the Racine County Invitational Tournament with Amber J. (18UBS) being part of a trio that combined to go 21 for 30 at the plate for the day, and Alecia F. (18UBS) providing a timely triple in the championship game.

4/14/11
Ashley K. 18USP
was named the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel player of the week. Ashley, a senior pitcher for West Allis Hale, led the Huskies to victories over Menomonee Falls and Brookfield Central last week as the team improved to 3-0 in the Greater Metro and 3-1 overall.

Monday against Central, she went 3 for 4 with one run and one RBI in a 6-1 victory while tossing a complete game and striking out seven. In a 2-1 victory over Menomonee Falls on Thursday, she threw another complete game and went 2 for 3 with a RBI.

3/23/11
Kelli K. 14USC

and her Club volleyball team, the East Troy Heat 14s, just concluded their season by taking 2nd out of 42 teams at the Badger Region!  They lost the final gold medal championship match game 13-15 to a significantly taller and more established team. Their overall record at Badger region was 7 matches won, 1 match lost, games, 15-3.

Cassie G. 18USP~ Giving back to Romanian Children...

A happy boy from Romania with his new shoes

Gaining momentum from what started as a simple observation, "Those children have no shoes", a fund raising effort helmed by Heidi Hawkinson of West Bend with her friends Marius and Cassie George of Hartford,WI. snowballed into a source for warmth both spiritual and physical for people thousands of miles away. Defining charity and generosity while saying much about the character of these area residents, response to Hawkinson's and the George's pleas to help the people of Romania lead to an outpouring of funds and faith.

Bat Speed Drill

Posted by John Lewandowski at Dec 20, 2010 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )

Bat Speed Drill

Do this drill by performing dry swings through the air. You want to swing the bat as hard as you can and try and whip it back into swing position as quick as possible. Reset, then swing again. Be mindful of your swing mechanics/form.

Equipment Needed for the Exercise
3 Bats of different weights

1 Light Bat (Quick stick, broom handle)
1 Regular Weighted Bat  (your game bat)
1 Heavy Bat  (something heavier than normal by at least 5 oz. - weighted bat, regular bat with weight on it, power stick)

The ideal set up is 8 ounces lighter than your normal bat weight and 8 ounces heavier than your normal bat. If you don't have the exact weights it is not going to hurt, do the best that you can with what you have.

Bat Speed Routine

Sets Bat Weight Reps
1st set Heavy Bat 10 - 12
2nd set Light Bat 10 - 12
3rd set Heavy Bat 10 - 12
4th set Light Bat 10 - 12
5th set Heavy Bat 10 - 12
6th set Your Own  Bat 10 - 12

Do this exercise at least twice a week!
