* A short sleeve technical running shirt that should be worn to training
sessions and to races.
* Special prizes and treats given out to runners at practices and races.

apparel and equipment.
NOTE: Participation in races is an extra fee and is not mandatory.
REQUIREMENTS
At least one parent is required to attend the Program Information Meeting so they fully understand the goals of the program and family requirements.
Parents of children 6 and under must attend all practices to help supervise their children.
Parents of older age participants are asked to volunteer at 2 or more practices or team races.
TEAM UNIFORM
Runners are expected to wear lightweight running shoes for all training sessions and races. Check the Suggested Running Shoes Link on the website for ideas on shoes to get at a descent price).
Runners should also wear the team t-shirt and black shorts (any brand) to practices and to races. We encourage running club members to wear their shirts to school on run club days to promote the program. If it is cold out we suggest wearing a Black long sleeve form fitting lycra shirt under the team T-shirt (like a long sleeve rash guard). Black tights may also be worn instead of shorts in cold weather. Runners should also have heavier jackets and clothing to wear before and after races if it is cold or wet weather.
Regular school clothes including jeans, skirts, and dresses are not appropriate for practices.
We encourage runners wear their Team T-shirt to school on running days and bring their shorts and running shoes in a small backpack or bag to change into immediately after school if they don't want to wear them all day.
PRACTICE ROUTINE
Immediately after school runners should change into their running uniform, go to the restroom if needed, and get a drink of water, then report to the check-in area at the lunch benches.
K-3rd Grade should be dressed and checked in by 2:30pm. Practice will end at 3:15pm
4th-6th Graders should be dresses and checked in by 3pm. Practice will end at 4:00pm
If your child will not be attending practice due to illness or some other conflict, please send a text or email to the program coordinator letting them know your child will not be able to attend. Please include the full name of the student and the date they will not be there.
The program is designed to be a progression, must like with topics in school, so if kids miss many sessions they will fall behind and not understand some of the technique progressions and exercises.
Parents should arrive by the end of practice to checkout their children unless they have turned in the release form allowing their kids to walk home or leave with other specified people.
If the weather may be very bad due to rain or other extreme conditions practice may be canceled. If there is a threat of bad weather please check your email and phone messages or text to see if it was canceled. Whenever, possible we still hold practice.
RACE EVENTS
We will post the team event calendar well in advance and send out notices for details on entering. It is parents’ responsibility to enter their runners - not the coaches or program administrators.
On race days athetes should check-in at the team area one hour before the start of their race (EZ-Ups with Alderwood Owls Running Club Banners). This will give adequate time to do course review, warm-up, pin numbers on, and visit the restroom. Parents, please comply to this policy and don't get your runners there late.
ALDERWOOD OWLS RUNNING CLUB DETAILS
The Alderwood Owls Running Club is a training and racing program designed to teach a healthy and active lifestyle - including regular exercise, good nutrition habits, and the positive aspects of healthy competition. The club participates in the KROC Program (Kids Run Orange County) The Alderwood Owls Running Club incorporates the Aldererwood Elementry School values while we train and work as a team:
Own your actions
Work to suceed
Lead with kindness
Show respect
The club meets for training sessions once a week after school and last 45 min to 1:15 depending on the age of the athletes. Practices include warm-up exercises, stretches, core strength work, and running technique and conditioning. The practices are often run in "game style format" which makes the training more enjoyable.
Club athletes are encouraged to do 1-2 race events a month, and there are also some special guest speakers and clinic opportunities.
The training program goes from Mid-January to early May with the final event being the KROC Kids Marathon (mile) done on the last mile of the OC Marathon course the day before the actual marathon event. Each athlete that completes the porgram and the KROC Mile receive and official finishers medal from the marathon for completing their 26 miles.
The goal is for each runner to complete a MINIMUM of 26.2 miles during the program and participate in 3 or more organized races. Ideally, we would like all particpants to run 50+ total miles over the 16 weeks and do one or more races a month.
The program is led by top level volunteer coaches and parent volunteers who team and motivate the athletes to achieve their own "personal excellence". Lead Coaches are Noelle Dardin, Renaissance Team ClubSport Head Coach, and Michael Collins, Coach of Multisports Orange County and a level 4 certified Pose Method of Running instructor.
Volunteer parent assistant coaches and volunteers are need for the program to run smoothly. It is not necessary to have run coaching background to assist with the program as several duties involve non-coaching activities like course monitors, recording times, taking photos or videos etc.
More specifics of the program, results, and photos are available in the Private Alderwood Run Club Website Hosted By Shutterfly that athletes and parents are given login access to once they are registered in the program.
