Farmingdale - The Shore Conference Coach's Association released the Conference All-Stars list on Sunday.  Panther captain, Gage Klotz was selected as a First Team - Defenseman, and Panthers leading scorer, Colin Freer was voted Honorable Mention - Forward.  Players were nominated by their respective coaches and voted on by all of the coaches from their division.  Coaches were unable to vote for their own players.  Klotz and Freer were selected out of a pool of approximately 120 players from the Shore Conference "D" Division.  Congratulations to both!

SURGING WARRIORS ELIMINATE PANTHERS

Posted by Robert Ryan at Feb 20, 2011 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )

Farmingdale - The Panthers season ended Sunday evening with a 10-3, first round loss to #2 seeded Manasquan in the Shore Conference Dowd Cup Tournament.  Squan's Connor Grogan and Charlie Mills had six point nights, with hat tricks and three assists each.  Colin Freer added two goals for the Panthers, bumping him to the top of the Panthers scoring leaders list with 29 points (19 G, 10 A).  Senior captain, Gage Klotz finished a close second with 27 points (14 G, 13 A), and alternate captain, Connor Bokop finished third with 20 points (11 G, 9 A).

So ends a roller coaster season that saw the Panthers fight though early season adversity to climb from the bottom of the division to within three goals of 2nd place in the final regular season game.  The Boro scored 25 more goals in '10/'11 than in '09/'10 despite playing four fewer games (all snowed out).  Four of their losses were by only one goal and one was by two (with one being an open netter), so the Boro fought valiantly for the majority of the season.  With the team losing only one forward to graduation, the scoring should only improve in 2011/12 with the experience gained by the underclassmen.

Sadly, the team must say goodbye to our five graduating seniors: Team captain, Gage Klotz, defensemen, Pat Lewis, Pat Manfredi, Jay Myers and center, Tom Santos.  All were great contributors to the team both on and off the ice and will be missed.

BORO CLINCHES DOWD CUP TOURNEY BERTH

Posted by Robert Ryan at Feb 9, 2011 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )

Brick - The Panthers, led by Gage and Carter Klotz, clinched a postseason spot by defeating St. Rose last night at the Ocean Ice Palace.  The Klotz brothers combined for seven points in the 6-4 victory.  Carter Klotz started the night putting the Panthers up 1-0 with a goal 2:54 into the 1st period.  After St. Rose tied the game less than a minute later it was Gage Klotz who again put the Panthers in the lead 2-1 on a short handed goal with 2:09 remaining in the period.

St. Rose, however, didn't back down and jumped out to a 3-2 lead with two goals less than a minute apart.  That lead lasted less than two minutes when Gage Klotz knotted the game at 3-3 off assists from Scott Campbell and Evan Herrington.  Four minutes later, St. Rose jumped back out on top and looked to be going into the intermission up a goal when Gage Klotz again knotted the game up off an assist from Carter Klotz with :09 remaining in the period.

Although there were many quality scoring chances, including a St. Rose breakaway stopped by Panther goaltender Nate Bissey, the 3rd period remained scoreless until Carter Klotz won an offensive zone faceoff right onto the stick blade of his brother, and Gage's slapshot from the point finally broke the tie putting the Panthers up 5-4 with 1:58 left in the game.  Connor Bokop added an open net goal to seal the victory.

The win clinches at least a 3rd place finish in the division, and a trip to the Shore Conference's Dowd Cup Tournament.  The Panthers have one divisional game remaining versus Ocean Township on Sunday.  If the Boro can win that game by two or more goals they would tie Ocean in points and take the tie breaker, which would move them into a 2nd place finish in the division behind undefeated Marlboro.  A win by one goal would force the tie breaker to go to a coin flip.  The Panthers will take on Ocean Township in the decisive game on Sunday at Gold Coast Arena.  Game time is 7:00pm
