News and Announcements

To all DEA team members and fans: The game that was scheduled for Sunday October 15th against Northshore Spartans has been postponed until Wednesday, October 25th at 7:30 PM at a field to be announced. Next game is Sunday October 22nd at 10:30 AM at our Home field against North Reading.
Defense, defense, defense. That was the key to this win. Strong support for the back led the way to a solid win of the Pond Dogs. The comments from the other team several times during the game were, this team is to fast, their defense are too quick, they cover everything. Mark Major was all over the field with head balls and stepping in front to steal many passes, Sean Kelly once again marked up the key player for Arlington and shut him down, Mitch Green picked up anything that might has gotten by anyone, and Rob Easton truly formed the stop gap. He was near impossible to get by, cleaned up anything in the air, and by the way scored the only goal of the game. The goal came in the first half with ball coming out to the 20 after high pressure for the DEA offense. Rob stuck a rocket the had a slight deflection off of a defender and went into the far side of the netting away from the very strong and tall Arlington keeper. Bedford kept on high pressure the whole second half but were unable to convert one. Highlight of the game – the one good opportunity that the Pond Dogs had came late in the last minutes of the game with a crack heading to the far side of the goal. With Cat like reaction DEA “Super Keeper” James Goddard somehow contorted his body to dive in the opposite direction he was facing and made a terrific save to keep the game from going to a tie. Jim got up gingerly buy was able to shake if off. I am sure he is feeling it today. The win puts DEA into the #1 position, where we hope to stay for the remainder of the season. On another note, looking at the 5 South division, our long time rivals (Marion Mariners) do not seem to be keeping up with us holding down the 4th spot with a 2-2-2 record. GM NOTES: Very good win. Third shut out in a row. Got to like that defense. Now the team is where it belongs. Everyones position is secure for the moment, but don't get too comfortable. We are only one point ahead of the Hurricanes. Looks like Northshore will be rescheduling this Sundays game after all. They have access to a field on a Wednesday or Friday night. Check the emails for the game day and time.
DEA moves into second place after today’s win. Playing on another typical MASS postage stamp field, DEA played strong and controlled most of the game. The first half ended scoreless, but clearly belonged to Bedford. The only goal of the game came mid way through the second half on a corner kick. Bill Jean using his strong left foot, placed a perfect bender over the keeper to the far post right on the head of Jim McCall who just needed to pop it in. DEA kept hammering away but could not find the back of the net again. With a few flurries at the end by Tewksbury, Mark Major kept a close one out of the net and DEA held strong for the win. After game comments: Defense was key today, containing Tewksbury, especially Sean Kelly who played expertly straight up on the power forward who was the primary target for the opponents. Sean contained and shut down their big man. John Valickus playing in the stopper spot was signed by the Patriots after the game as back up field goal kicker. John was strong and high several times. Lots of complaining from our opponents, some one get those guys some cheese. Where are the big guys Paul and Rob? The next game that was scheduled for this Sunday, Columbus Day weekend will most likely be played on Monday or Friday night at Sportsmans field at 8 PM. Stay tuned for more info on this. The Arlington Pond Dogs cannot field a team for Sundays match and we want to beat them fair and square.
In a solid display of soccer against the current 1st place team, DEA showed strong in last Sundays game to gain a decisive 3 - 0 win against their opponents. DEA showed good control of the game from the start, their opponents had limited opportunities with a strong defensive backfield for the Bedford team. One goal came in the first half with the "brother connection". John Guild worked his way into the corner and managed to elude a defender and send a low hard ball into the front of the goal. Brother Jeff stepped quickly in front of the defense to head a low shot past the keeper into the corner of the net. Coming on strong in the second half, Bruce placed a ball to the open wing where Jim McCall was waiting. McCall drove the side beating one defender, and with several players charging the 18 for cross, hits a strike that goes directly into the goal while the keeper was coming out to the 12 trying to protect against the cross. After several barrages on goal, many questionable cards being handed to the DEA defense who in my opinion played strong and straight up, Bedford got its final goal with George connecting with Doug to slap a shot past the keeper and putting the final nail into the Hurricane defense. DEA needs to keep the momentum going and win the remainder of their games. Next Game is at Tewksbury against the sometimes dirty Tewsbury Independent Team. Mitch is in charge of Paul and Rob's tempers..... Game time is at 8:30 so get some sleep and get on the road early. ***************** GREAT WIN DEA !!!!!!!!! ***********************
