ROSELEA OUSTED FROM EMIRATES CUP

Posted by Roy Gill at Oct 29, 2011 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

MONTROSE ROSELEA v BLAIRGOWRIE JFC

EMIRATES SCOTTISH JUNIOR CUP 2nd Round

SAT OCTOBER 29th 2011

Roselea were drawn against fellow North Division side Blairgowrie in the Emirates Junior Cup and although they were strong favourites the sides had drawn 1-1 in the opening League Cup encounter in August. Roselea were in a rich vein of form having bagged 22 goals in their previous four matches and conceded one. Stewart Fletcher was struggling from a bout of tonsillitis and was the only change from the side that started the previous week. The Roselea pitch had been worked on and the ground staff had it looking in tiptop condition.

Roselea: Mcleod, Colquhoun, Whyte, Reoch , R Taylor, Urquhart, Rae, Anderson, Riach, Aitken & Collier. Subs: Mustard, Hood, P Taylor, Rodger, Kennedy, Fletcher & Craig.

Roselea conceded a free kick on 6 minutes and Shannon sent in a dangerous ball which flashed across the Roselea goalmouth with no takers from either side.

It was Roselea who took the lead a minute later when they were awarded a penalty. COLLIER went for a cross and was grounded by a push in the back. He collected the ball himself and ended Roselea’s recent run of penalty misses with a well struck shot into the roof of the net.

Blairgowrie were in no mood to stand down and got back into the game with an unfortunate own goal by REOCH.  Axworthy had broke along the by-line and his cut back was met by Reoch as he tracked back towards goal and left Mcleod stranded.

Roselea then took the game to Blair and went ahead with a great goal on 27 minutes. Colqhoun went on a run from the right back position and played a one-two with Anderson who back heeled the ball into his path, he struck a great 20 yard shot which Obrien beat out only for AITKEN to brilliantly adjust his body and head into the net.

Roselea had a big let off when Mcleod raced from his goal after Axworthy had been set free, the keeper brought the striker down and was fortunate to receive a yellow card.

Blairgowrie had the next chance in 38 minutes when good play by Carnegie found Salisbury in the box but his shot was deflected behind for a corner.

Referee Beats played a good advantage for Blairgowrie after Millar was brought down in the middle of the park and Axworthy should have done better as he bore down on goal but shot wide.

Half Time: Roselea 2 Blairgowrie 1

Roselea made two substitutions with Mustard and Hood coming on for Riach and Aitken with a view to stopping the Blair midfield dictating play.

It was Roselea who had the first chance of the half with Obrien blocking from Collier who had latched on to a Hood cross in 50 minutes.

Eight minutes later Collier had another chance but again Obrien was there to block the ball.

A minute later Blairgowrie were equal and it was a disappointing goal for Roselea as a long ball found AXWORTHY and he took full advantage and finished from 12 yards out.

Roselea had a chance to get back in front when Collier had a couple of attempts in a melee on the goal-line but the ball was cleared.

Blairgowrie took the lead in 65 minutes with another goal similar to the equaliser. A long ball bounced over the Roselea defence and Axworthy squared to RYDER who scored from 4 yards.

Hood had a chance to equalise in 68 minutes after Anderson made a strong run, his shot was on target but Obrien turned it round the post.

Roselea were working hard to get back in the game and Urquhart slid in and just missed a Collier cross in 71 minutes.

Obrien was again on top form at Broomfield Park and minutes later he made a miraculous save from a Collier shot which he saw late and turned it behind for a corner.

Blairgowrie had a chance to score and take the game beyond Roselea’s reach when a corner broke in the 6 yard box and somehow they managed to head the ball over from just under the bar.

Kennedy replaced Rae and almost made an instant impact when he fired a great ball into the box which Hood could not get a touch on.

In 87 minutes Roselea had a three chances within a minute. Hood had a goalbound shot deflected behind, Urquhart had a scrambled ball just squeeze behind for a corner and the same player headed onto the post from 2 yards out from Hoods corner.

Full Time: Roselea 2 Blairgowrie 3

This was an unexpected loss by Roselea however the Blairgowrie side had improved from the League Cup fixture in August but were given too much room at times especially in midfield. Roselea lost two soft goals and came up against the ever excellent Gordon Obrien at the other end. Perhaps the two seven goal victories over Coupar Angus gave the team a false sense of their position. The Match Sponsors Golf Inn Vaders, C.A.R Properties, Hunting Energy Services & Roobs Crew chose Ryan Taylor as their Man of the Match.

Roselea get a quick chance to get back on the rails with a tough home game against Kirrie Thistle in the McBookie.com North Division which kicks off at 2pm (two o clock)

ROSELEA HIT DOUBLE SEVEN

Posted by Roy Gill at Oct 22, 2011 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

COUPAR ANGUS v MONTROSE ROSELEA

McBOOKIE.COM EAST REGION NORTH DIVISION

SAT OCT 22nd 2011

Roselea travelled to Foxhall Park Coupar Angus to face the home side for the second week running. Having won by seven goals to nil the consensus could easily have been that another win would be a formality however the Roselea Management had their players fully prepared for a tough match. Colin Kennedy who returned from holiday was an addition to the bench but unlikely to feature as Roselea started with the same eleven as the previous week.

Foxhall Park was beginning to show the first signs of winter and although very heavy had been rolled and was ready for action.

Roselea: Mcleod, Colquhoun, Whyte, Reoch, R Taylor, Urquhart, Rae, Anderson, Riach, Collier & Fletcher. Subs: Rodger, Hood, Aitken, P Taylor, Mustard, Kennedy & Brand

Any doubts that Roselea were going to be taking the game easy were quickly proved wrong with two goals in the opening five minutes however there was still time beforehand for Coupar Angus to force a great save from Mcleod who had to beat out a 25 yard free kick.

Roselea opened the scoring in 3 minutes when Ryan Taylor made a forward run from the left back area and spotted FLETCHER free on the right hand side of the box and the the in form striker took a touch before sending a low left footed shot under the keeper.

It was 2-0 in 5 minutes, this time courtesy of a mistake by Spence in the home goal. He mis-kicked a clearance straight to RAE in the middle of the pitch some 30 yards out and although not the easiest of chances in the condition his first time shot found the empty net.

It could have been three a minute later when a great Urquhart cross was turned onto his own bar by Malone and out for a corner.

After a blistering start things started to settle down with Roselea still pressing but some bad passing letting them down at the last stage.

It wasn’t until 19 minutes that the next chance came and it was again Roselea who created it. Urquhart sent in another great cross and Rae headed goalwards only for Spence to turn the ball over with a great save.

Coupar Angus’s young side were down but not out and they continued to try and play football without creating any real openings.

Stewart Fletcher brought out a great save from Spence when he spectacularly volleyed a shot on the swivel from the edge of the box but the BBC Sports Reporters son again tipped the ball over for a corner.

Duechar then had a great run for Coupar Angus beating two players when he found himself with too much room but screwed his shot into the side netting.

It was 3-0 Roselea on 37 minutes. Anderson skipped over the midfield mud evading two tackles and slipped the ball to COLLIER who steadied himself before picking his spot in the corner and finished well.

Just when Roselea looked on easy street Coupar Angus clawed their way back into the game with a tremendous goal. Fraser SMITH received a bouncing ball on the 18 yard box before turning and hitting an unstoppable volley into the roof of the net.

Roselea had a chance to make it four just on half time when Urquhart found Fletcher in the box with a cut back, he elected to take a touch but got his feet in a fankle and screwed his wide.

Half Time Coupar Angus 1 Montrose Roselea 3

Roselea had the first chance of the second half when Taylor went on one of his long runs and suared to Fletcher who couldn’t get enough on the ball to trouble Spence who beat out to the onrushing Rae but with the ball at a difficult height he kneed the ball over.

Roselea were still on top with Coupar struggling to make any impression. Next chance came in 57 minutes when  Taylor free kick was flicked on by Collier and Urquharts close in header was again well blocked by the young keeper.

It was only a matter of time before Roselea increased their lead and they did so a minute later. Taylor again willing to get forward squared to Rae and when his shot was blocked into the path of URQUHART he did what other should have been doing and put his foot through the ball to make it 4-1 for the visitors.

In 65 minutes COLLIER made it 5-1 when he beat the offside trap and in a carbon copy of his goal the previous week rounded the keeper and slotted home from a tight angle.

That was the end of the action for Roselea strikers Collier and Fletcher as they made way for subs Paul Taylor and Aitken.

Taylor almost got his name on the sheet when he headed just over from an Urquhart cross in 70 minutes.

Hood replaced Urquhart in 71 minutes.

Scott RIACH made it 6-1 in 73 minutes when his speculative lob from the edge of the box dipped over Spence who could do nothing to prevent it.

Aitken was unlucky not to add to the tally in 75 minutes when he outstripped the home defence but possibly got to good a contact as the keeper slid out towards him and the ball dipped wide of the post.

The subs were having an impact and Paul Taylor brought out a great save from Spence who yet again tipped the ball over the bar.

Roselea sub AITKEN got number seven in the 81st minute when he scored from close range with Coupar Angus claiming Anderson and Hood were in an offiside position however the latter had made a late run.

There was still time for Derek Duncan of the home side to receive a second yellow for handball and he made the long walk to switch the showers on.

Full Time: Coupar Angus 1 Montrose Roselea 7

As perhaps expected Roselea ranked up their second seven goal scoreline in consecutive weeks. In a funny way the scoreline does not reflect the battle that Coupar Angus put up however on missed chances it should have been more. It was another good team performance with all doing their jobs and keeps the unbeaten run going. Roselea now move into second place and are 5 points behind early leaders Violet.

This week Roselea are at home to fellow North Division side Blairgowrie in the Emirates Junior Cup 2nd Round. The sides met in August on League Cup duty and the home side will want to avenge the 1-1 draw which should have been an easy win and ultimately cost them a place in the League Cup Semi Finals. Roselea should have a full squad available and the match kicks off at 2.30pm.

TALE OF TWO HALVES

Posted by Roy Gill at Oct 15, 2011 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

MONTROSE ROSELEA v COUPAR ANGUS

McBOOKIE.COM EAST REGION NORTH DIVISION

SAT OCT 15th 2011

Roselea were back in the hunt for League points against lowly Coupar Angus. The home team were buoyed by the 3-0 win over one of the title favourites Dundee North End although they had been brought down to earth after the 3-1 loss to Johnshaven in Monday’s friendly.

Roselea had pretty much a full squad with holidaying Colin Kennedy missing and Ross Colquhoun passed a pre match fitness test to take his place in the starting line up.

Roselea: Mcleod, Colquhoun, Whyte, Reoch, R Taylor, Urquhart, Rae, Anderson, Riach, Collier & Fletcher. Subs: Rodger, Hood, Aitken, P Taylor, Mustard & Brand

Roselea who were expected to be on top wasted no time in pressing Coupar Angus in the 2nd minute. Riach crossed to Fletcher who swivelled at the near post before finding Collier and his shot was turned behind by Ewen who was in for a busy day. From the corner Whyte won his header and the ball fell to Urquhart who had his shot cleared off the line.

Roselea spent the opening 20 minutes on top with Coupar Angus only breaking at times without penetrating the Roselea defence.

The next chance didn’t materialise until the 22nd minute when Rae wasted his chance by hitting the ball wide when he had time to take a touch.

With Roselea pressing there was always a chance that Coupar Angus may hit them on the break and in 28 minutes Lamb broke away on the right with Roselea looking for offside and his cross was narrowly missed by McBride in the middle. This was a big let off for the home side.

Roselea had their next chance in 33 when Urquhart was sent down the right with a quick throw in and his cross was about to be volleyed home by Collier when Townsley got a touch to intercept the ball.

Scott Riach had a chance for Roselea in 40 minutes when he met an Urquhart cross but did not get enough on the ball and it was cleared for a corner.

Urquhart had a great chance to break the deadlock when Colquhoun sent him away on the right and his pace left him with the keeper to beat but his low shot went just wide of the post.

Roselea finally got the goal that their play merited right on half time The outstanding Urquhart made a run from deep inside his own half before sending Calum Rae away on the right and his perfectly squared ball found FLETCHER on the six yard box and he made no mistake from 6 yards out.

Half Time: Roselea 1 Coupar Angus 0

Roselea had made hard work of the first half and would need at least one more goal to make the points secure. They started the second half well and the first chance fell to Collier when his shot inside the box was tipped over by Ewen for a corner.

Fletcher then had a great chance to double the home sides lead when his well timed run saw him beat the offside and he elected to try and round the keeper who did well to save at his feet.

Roselea were well on top and they had a further two chances in 57 & 58 minutes. First Fletcher turned well in the box and found Rae who had his shot blocked then Urquhart chipped the ball into Collier who tried to curl the ball into the corner but was just wide.

Roselea’s pressure finally paid off when they doubled their lead in the 60th minute. Urquhart drives forward and draws the Coupar Angus defence out before squaring to the open FLETCHER who sent his shot into the top right corner of the net.

In 63 minutes Roselea had a big claim for a penalty when Fletcher again latched on to a long ball and appeared to be tripped when he was away to shoot but nothing was given.

Roselea added to their lead in 65 minutes when COLLIER broke on the left and steered the ball into the corner of the net.

Mustard replaced Colquhoun on 68 minutes.

COLLIER grabbed a second after good pressure by himself and Sean Mustard saw a bad pass back to the keeper being intercepted and the striker steadied himself before shooting home from close range.

COLLIER made it a 8 minute hat trick with his third and Roselea’s fifth in 73 minutes when he lobbed the keeper from 8 yards out after another mistake from Coupar Angus.

Hood then replaced Collier a minute later.

In 83 minutes REOCH went on a strong run from the half way line and decided to keep going all the way into the box and finished well from 10 yards out.

Rodger then replaced Riach in 85 minutes.

FLETCHER then brought proceedings to an end with the goal of the day right on full time just as he had done in the first half. Roselea won a free kick 25 yards out and his free kick found the top right hand corner to complete his first hat trick for the club.

Final Score: Roselea 7 Coupar Angus 0

This was another impressive display by the home side who have now scored 15 in three games without reply. Coupar Angus made things difficult in the first half and should have taken the lead before Roselea scored. Whether the scoreline was down to a collapse from the visitors or down to the play of the home side was debatable however the quality of the finishing and goals were top notch. It was a great team performance with Bob Urquharts pace giving Coupar Angus all sorts of problems and Paul Whyte was back to his best at the back.

Roselea now face the same side away next week in a back to back League fixture. Things could be made more difficult though on the tight Foxhall Park pitch. The Kick Off is at 2.30pm

BIG WIN AT NORTH END

Posted by Alan Simpson at Oct 8, 2011 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

NORTH END V ROSELEA
EAST REGION McBOOKIE.COM NORTH DIVISION
SAT OCT 8th 2011

Roselea travelled to joint league leaders North End knowing that a win was vital even at this early stage in the season.

Roselea: Mcleod, Colquhoun, R Taylor, Rae, Reoch, White, Urquhart, Anderson, Collier, Fletcher & Riach. Subs: P Taylor, Aitken, Brand, Rodger, Hood & Kerrigan.

North End started the game well with some slick passing as Glennie set up McComiskie whos effort from 20 yards takes a deflection off Reoch and Mcleods quick reaction makes it look an easy save.

9 minutes into the game a long diagonal ball floats over the top of the visitors defence reaches Duncan out wide who lofts in a great ball and Glennie heads over the bar.

Minutes later another long ball catches out the Roselea defenders and this time Duncan has an effort from 15 yards just wide of Mcleods left hand post.

Against the run of play Roselea score through Fletcher, who full of running crosses in a great ball into North End's penalty area and the on rushing Urquhart is first to the ball and finds the back of the net. 1-0 the Lea.

North End come close from the re-start, good link up play around the box, and McComiskie places his shot wide of the post.

18 minutes gone, and Ross Colquhoun is next to drive down the flank and his cross is only cut out by North End's keeper Fotheringham before Scott Riach can pounce.

19 minutes gone, ref Marc Ritchie books North Ends Mark Kelly for a grapple with Callum Rae.

2 minutes later ref has his book out again, booking Robert Urquhart and the home teams Michael Stewart for a bit of handbags.

26 minutes gone and James Collier scores a cracking goal. Ryan Taylor delivers and with his back togoal he swivels round and powers the ball into the net. 2-0 the Lea.

Ref awards North End a free kick in their own half that is quickly taken and with the Roselea defence sleeping North Ends McComiskie runs clean through on goal and McLeod's leg saves and the ball drifts out for a corner. From the resulted kick a header from Barry McNaughton goes straight at keeper McLeod, who blocks with his arms straight out to the on rushing Duncan who heads the ball against the bar and is eventually cleared.

43 minutes gone and Ryan Duncan is the fourth player booked for North End.

Less than a minute later Ryan Taylor gets tripped by Mark Kelly and as having already been booked, receives his second yellow card and North End are down to ten men. Half time 2-0 Roselea.

2 minutes into the second half, and North End continue with the yellow cards as Glennie is cautioned. Their sixth yellow of the game.

Roselea get a reminder that this game is far from over as in the 57th minute a superb ball from sub,Evans, leaves McComiskie in the clear and with only McLeod to beat blasts it high over the bar.

On the hour mark McLeod comes out for a high ball, punches it out only as far as Percy, who knocks it over McLeod, goal wards and Paul Whyte on the goal line heads over his own bar for a corner.

65 minutes gone and James Collier breaks the offside trap rushing clean through on goal but their keeper gets the slightest of touches as the ball narrowly slips past the post.

Moments later Urquhart goes on a mazy run and has an effort saved by Fotheringham from 25 yards.

North End again come close to getting back into the match from a corner kick, David Gowans, reaches the ball and sends his header towards goal but for Ross Colquhoun clearing off the line.

70 minutes gone and Ross Colqhoun is booked for tripping an opponent.

72 minutes gone and North End go close once again from a free kick that goes just over the bar.

North Ends Craig Nicoll gets booked with 15 minutes to go and from the resultant freee kick, Stewart Fletcher scores Roseleas 3rd goal as he runs through on goal and from 12 yards smashes the ball into the right hand corner off he net. 3-0 Roselea.
In fairness to North End they keep on pressing as they are still creating chances but are having no
luck in front of goal.

Roselea freshen the team with Aitken, Hood and Paul Taylor on for Callum Rae, Stewart Fletcher and Scott Riach.

Roselea keep the pressure on North Ends defence in the closing stages of the game.

Jordan Reoch is the third Roselea player to be booked on the day for tripping North End`s  McComiskie who also gets booked for over reacting to the foul becoming the seventh player booked for North End.

Full time 3-0 Roselea. A great result for the Lea against one of the favourites for the league on their own patch. An entertaining game from two teams trying to play football where if chances were taken it could have been a high scoring game. Hopefully the players can maintain this level of play and if so they won`t be that far away at the end of the season.

ROSELEA CRUISE TO DERBY WIN

Posted by Roy Gill at Sep 24, 2011 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

MONTROSE ROSELEA v BRECHIN VICS

McBOOKIE.COM EAST REGION NORTH DIVISION

SAT SEPT 24th

The eagerly awaited derby between Roselea and Brechin Vics came to Broomfield Park on Saturday. There were rumblings from the Victoria Park side were that they were confident and set up to have a good go at the home side. Roselea’s players didn’t need reminded that they had lost in the League Cup to the Brechin side last season. Roselea had played well in the Monday night friendly with Peterhead leading 1-0 for 65 minutes to a strong side before going down 4-1.

Paul Whyte returned to the starting line up and injuries to Ryan Taylor & Sean Mustard meant that the Management had to draft in the experienced Ian Greig who played at left back as a Trialist.

Roselea: Mcleod, Colquhoun, Whyte, Reoch, Greig, Rae, Urquhart, Anderson, Kennedy, Collier & Fletcher. Subs: Riach, Aitken, Strachan, P Taylor, R Taylor, Hood & Rodger.

Roselea kicked off on a flat pitch and a stiff breeze had come up from the early morning clam to make the home sides start more difficult.

Roselea started well and Urquhart took advantage of a slack Vics pass in 4 minutes before shooting just wide. Kennedy then sent a dangerous ball into the Vics box but it was dealt with by Low. In 8 minutes Urquhart did well again breaking down the right and his driven ball could not find a green shirt in the box.

Roselea were in the mood and it was no surprise when they took the lead in 10 minutes. COLLIER drove along the byeline and slotted past Robbie with the keeper fumbling the shot over the line.

Roselea made it 2-0 in 14 minutes with a very easy goal. Urquhart put in a great far post cross and found FLETCHER in plenty of room and he had time to take the ball down and slot home from close range.

Brechin Vics had their first chance in 17 minutes when Dobran cut in and sent a dangerous curling shot just wide of the post. Brechin Vics have the next chance as well in 28 minutes but Mcnaught does not connect with the ball cleanly leaving Mcleod to save easily.

Dobran went on a great run for Vics before cutting the ball back and Mcleod had to push the ball away to Reoch who was fouled.

Just before half time Roselea have the last chance of the half. Some good football from the homesters saw the ball worked to Urquhart and his vicious 30 yard drive had to be palmed over by Robbie for a corner.

Half Time : Montrose Roselea 2 Brechin Vics 0

Roselea continued their dominance after the break and Collier had a good drive rise just over the bar after he had flicked the ball over Buggins in 47 minutes

Collier fed Greig as he rampaged down the left hand side his cutback had to be blocked twice by Vics defenders before going behind for a corner. Kennedy flighted a great ball and it was met by the head of WHYTE who crashed the ball home in 55 minutes.

In 61 minutes Urquhart met another Kennedy corner but could not direct his effort on goal.

Brechin Vics were struggling to cope with the pressure were piling on and only a scrambled clearance prevented another goal from a corner.

Roselea make their first change in 67 minutes when Scott Riach replaced Stewart Fletcher.

Roselea scored a fourth in 74 minutes with the goal of the game. Urquhart shows great patience by passing to the advancing Greig who in turns plays Urquhart and his lay off is beautifully struck home by RAE from 25 yards leaving Robbie a virtual spectator.

Roselea make a double substitution in 75 minutes with Paul Taylor & Joe Aitken replacing Anderson & Collier.

Taylor almost broke his Roselea duck when the impressive Urquhart drew the Vics defence before slipping the ball wide and Taylors well struck past went agonisingly close to the fifth goal.

In 85 minutes Roselea were awarded a free kick some 30 yards out and a well-rehearsed move saw Whyte shoot just wide.

Right on time KENNEDY made it five when he connected with an Aitken cutback and shortly after referee Kenny beats called full time.

Final Score: Montrose Roselea 5 Brechin Vics 0

Match Ball Sponsor was Liam Geddes. The Match Sponsors of Shell, Lucy & Jack McCombie chose Ian Greig as their Man of the Match

This was a convincing win and Brechin Vics came up against a hungry team that seem to have put their early season lack of finishing power behind them. From the off there was only going to be one winner.

Roselea now have a free week due to their bye in the Scottish Cup and will play Newburgh Juniors in an away friendly which kicks off at 1pm.  The draw for the 2nd Round of the Emirates Junior Cup will take place at the Pollok Social club on Sunday Oct 9th at 12.30
