ROSELEA REACH LAST 8 OF GA CUP

Posted by Roy Gill at Mar 9, 2013 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )

PORTGORDON VICS v MONTROSE ROSELEA
GA CUP 3
rd ROUND

SAT MARCH 9th 2013

Roselea ventrured north on Saturday for a last 16 tie in the GA Cup. A problem with the original bus resulted in a 30 min delay with the team arriving just 30 minutes from kick off. After beating Superleage Lochee Utd in the previous Round Roselea were hot favourites to beat the home side who sat mid table in the North First Division. Roselea travelled minus the injured Danny Ross & Graeme Allan who was working.

Portgordon, which is on the Moray coast along from Buckie would give Broomfield Park a run for money in the coldest and windiest location for a football club. The team went out on to a very bumpy surface which would test all abilities to control the ball and passes.

Roselea: Mcleod, Rae, Whyte, Reoch, R Taylor, Anderson, Watt, Beedie, Cruickshank, Watson & Reid. Subs: Riach, P Taylor, Collier & Brand

Roselea made a strong start to the game and took the lead in just 6 minutes. Dale Reid flicked a ball on to Craig Anderson and he drove into the box before cutting back to Calum WATSON who poked home from 6 yards with the outside of his right foot.

After their great start Roselea let Portgordon back in to the game and Davidson had far too much room in the middle of the park before unleashing a 30 yard shot which went just wide of the post in 14 minutes.

3 minutes later Portgordon attacked again and a corner kick troubled the visitors before a hand ball was given against an attacker.

Ross Mcleod was called into action when Leslie had a header blocked and then shot against the Roselea keeper who did well to close him down in 20 minutes.

Portgordon were using the strong wind to their advantage and Mair had another long range shot from 30 yards which saw Mcleod scrambling to make sure the ball was off target.

Calum Watson broke through in 23 minutes but home keeper Redford did well to close the angle and blocked his left footed shot.

In 33 minutes Whyte almost doubled the lead when he headed a long throw in from Craig Anderson just wide of the post.

In 42 minutes there was a spate of bookings with Rae and Anderson booked for Roselea after debating a foul and then a Portgordon player was also booked for a very late tackle on Ryan Taylor.

Reid had another chance for Roselea in 42 minutes but home keeper Reford did well to turn the ball behind for a corner saving low at his front post.

Half Time: Portgordon 0 Roselea 1

Roselea wasted no time in increasing their lead with Calum Watson quick thinking and throw in releasing Craig ANDERSON who stayed composed and slid the ball under the advancing keeper from 16 yards.

Roselea were now on top and Whyte caused harm in the home box when he headed a corner back across the face of the goal with the home side doing well to clear the danger in 53 minutes.

Portgordon had a chance in 55 minutes when Leslie found space in the box but Mcleod stood his ground and saved well.

Roselea made a double substitution on 60 minutes with Calum Rae & Dale Reid being replaced by Scott Riach and Paul Taylor.

In 73 minutes Portgordon almost gave themselves the lifeline they were looking for with the game far from being over as Leslie just failed to connect with a cross ball. However they did pull themselves back into the tie in 78 minutes when LESLIE did managed to convert a cross into the goal.

With no futher chances in the game Roselea held out for a win but were left hanging on a “Shooglie Peg” for the last 10 minutes before sealing their trip into the last 8 of the GA Cup.

Final Score: Portgordon Vics 1 Montrose Roselea 2

After a very promising opening Roselea made very hard work of this against a very average team who did work hard to make things difficult for the visitors. Although the win was never in doubt it was an uncomfortable 90 minutes for them. The Management team will be relieved that they came though a difficult match.

Next week Roselea are on the road again however it a shorter trip to Victoria Park to play Brechin Vics in a local derby in the McBookie North Division. Kick off is at 2.30pm

SECOND HALF DRAMA AT KIRRIE

Posted by Roy Gill at Mar 1, 2013 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )

KIRRIE THISTLE v MONTROSE ROSELEA

McBOOKIE.COM NORTH DIVISION

SAT MARCH 2nd 2013

Roselea travelled to Westview Park Kirriemuir in a rich vein of form having beaten Superleague Lochee Utd and Forfar West End in the previous two matches. Kirrie Thistle were themselves in form having also beaten West End 4-0 the previous week and sit nicely in the table six points ahead of Roselea with two games in hand.

Roselea travelled minus flu victims Paul Taylor & Calum Rae with Graeme Allan unavailable. Danny Ross was moved into the right back slot.

Roselea: Mcleod, Ross, Ryan Taylor, Reoch, Whyte, Anderson, Collier, Beedie, Cruickshank, Reid & Watson. Subs: Watt, Riach, Brand & Craig.

Kirrie kicked off on a damp but firm pitch which had seen two previous postponements in recent weeks. They had the first exchange in 4 mins when they had a snapshot at the edge of the box and the ball dipped dangerously over Mcleods crossbar for a corner. The corner was played to the edge of the box and Farquharson was not picked up and smacked a great low shot which was blocked by a Roselea player on the line.

Kirrie were looking livelier up front and they had a very valid appeal for a penalty in 18 mins when Mcleod and Sievewright collided in the box. Referee Banks paused for a second and then awarded a corner for the home side.

Roselea were coming into matters and Ross drove from the box before releasing Anderson down the right and his cross was just missed by the despairing Watson who slid in at the back post in 21 mins.

Once again Sievewright broke away for Kirrie and as he advanced into the box Reoch somehow got back and made a great tackle to avert the danger.

In 32 mins Roselea then had a great opportunity when Taylor received a quick throw in and picked out Reid in the box but the young striker headed over from a good position.

It was a very even opening period and Watson was next to try for Roselea when he curled a shot that went just wide of the upright and the ball had taken a deflection for a corner in 32 mins.

As the half drew to a close Beedie then had a shot from the edge of the box and was just wide having been harried by the Kirrie defence as he shot.

Half Time Kirrie 0 Roselea 0

Roselea opened strongly in the second period and Beedie went on a mazy run in the box beating two players but perhaps should have shot earlier as he was eventually crowded out.

Kirrie Thistle took the lead in 55 minutes with an excellent strike from the edge of the box following a corner. John FARQUHARSON who is renowned for his shooting ability hit the ball down the middle but the sheer power beat Mcleod from 22 yards out.

It was all square in 60 minutes when Roselea drew level. A Cruickshank corner was flicked on by Collier and Paul WHYTE was well placed to poke the ball home at the far post through a ruck of bodies.

Roselea made a change in 63 minutes when Marcus Watt replaced David Beedie.

The match was littered with yellow cards and in a two minute spell Smith & Cooney of Kirrie and Watson of Roselea were shown cards.

Roselea were looking more up for the match after their goal and Reid almost connected with a low Ross shot which was well off target.

Roselea forced a corner when Watson broke on the right and crossed forcing Scott to head behind when under pressure. Collier flicked the ball on to Reoch and he layed the ball back to Cruickshank who shot over.

Kirrie went back in front courtesy of a penalty in 70 minutes. Sievewright was giving Roselea problems down the right side and he forced Mcleod to foul him in the box. Surprisingly he only received a yellow for the incident however SIEVEWRIGHT made sure from the spot to make it 2-1.

Roselea took little time to get back on level terms when WATSON lashed home a loose ball in the box from 16 yards in 73 minutes.

Roselea made another change with Riach replacing Cruickshank in 75 minutes.

Watt had a great first time side footed shot from a Kirrie clearance go just wide in 78 minutes,

Roselea took the lead for the first time in 83 minutes. Anderson was showing great stamina down the line and he crossed for COLLIER to lob over the keeper with Reid following up to make sure.

Kirrie upped their game and Whyte had to head behind for a corner after Mcleod had come and missed the ball. Then a long ball caught out Taylor and Sievewright shot low to the near post with only a slight touch from Mcleod prevented a goal in 85 minutes.

Russell then had a free kick for Kirrie just go wide of Mcleods post who was scrambling to get over to the ball.

Just when Roselea thought they had done enough to secure the 3 points Kirrie scored a deserved equaliser at the death. Again a long diagonal ball found SIEVEWRIGHT and he cut in from the right before drilling a low shot across Mcleod and into the net for a dramatic equaliser in 87 minutes.

Final Score: Kirrie Thistle 3 Montrose Roselea 3

This was one of these games where a draw felt like a defeat and will suit the home team more than the visitors. Roselea did well to fight back from being behind twice and showed a lot of character to take the lead. There were some great displays with Whyte and Reoch commanding at the back and Marcus Watt did well when he came on. The draw leaves Kirrie Thistle 6 points ahead of Roselea with 2 games in hand. With 9 games left for Roselea this was one of the last tough away games however they will need to pick up maximum points from most of their remaining games. League leaders North End won 4-1 at Lochee Harp and are now 9 points ahead of Roselea who have two games in hand over them.

This week Roselea make the long trip to Portgordon in the 3rd Round of the GA Cup and will also travel on the 16th to Brechin Vics in a crucial derby match at Victoria Park in the League.

ROSELEA CONTINUE LOCHEE UTD JINX

Posted by Roy Gill at Feb 22, 2013 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )

MONTROSE ROSELEA v LOCHEE UTD

GA CUP 2nd ROUND

SAT FEB 23rd 2013

Roselea, fresh from a great League win over Forfar West End were looking to continue their good form in a tough Cup tie v Superleague Lochee Utd in the 2nd Round of the GA Cup. The task was going to be even tougher with key players Paul Whyte (injury), James Collier and Graeme Allan (work) missing. Marcus Watt who had signed from Arbroath FC had recovered from injury and joined the squad for the first time. Paul Taylor took a place on the bench but was not fully recovered from his rib injury. On the eve of the game transfer listed Robert Urquhart made the move to join Dundee Violet.

Lochee Utd had worries of their own with both number one keeper Vanderyl and their backup missing so their goalkeeping coach, ex Montrose FC Jim Buttars took over. They had the same starting line up as they had in the Scottish Cup tie with Auchinleck Talbot apart from new signing Bryan Deasley who was cup tied and replaced by Paul Blackwood.

On a cold day the predicted over night frost did not come to anything and the teams were met by a flat and dry pitch with little wind to contend with.

Roselea: Mcleod, Rae, R Taylor, Reoch, Craig, Ross, Beedie, Anderson, Watson, Riach, Reid. Subs: Cruickshank, Watt, P Taylor, Brand

Roselea almost shocked Lochee Utd in the first minute when Reid played a ball to Danny Ross and he shot wide when he should have found the net.

Roselea’s great start continued when they took a shock lead in just 2 minutes. Dale Reid was very quick in the box and Webster connected with his legs leaving referee Ferguson no choice but to award the home side a penalty. Calum WATSON took the kick and sent Lochee Utds stand in keeper Buttars the wrong way from the spot to make it 1-0 to Roselea.

Five minutes later the game was all square. Craig ROBERTSON made a great run from midfield and evaded a tackle before slipping the ball past the advancing Mcleod.

Lochee Utd had another a chance a minute later when Mcleods punched clearance fell to Gallacher and his chipped effort went just over the bar.

In 10 minutes Calum Watson went on a dribbling run to the edge of the box and the ball broke to David Beedie to took a touch and sent a good left footed shot just over.

Roselea were getting on top at this stage and Ross had a good drive from the edge of the box well held by Buttars who had punched a corner clear just before in 15 minutes. A couple of minutes later Watson then had a snap-shot which was well enough hit but Buttars was well placed to hold.

Midway through the half the referee pulled play back for no advantage as Riach was brought down. Calum Watson took the kick and wasn’t to far away from 25 yards out.

As the half drew to a close Calum Rae progressed from his right back berth but could not get enough power & direction with his shot to trouble the visitors goal.

Half Time: Roselea 1 Lochee Utd 1

The first chance after the interval saw the lively Gates looking likely to score but the referee quite correctly gave a foul for a shirt pull on Rae and in any case Mcleod made a great block with his thigh to make sure.

Roselea had a chance on 60 mins when Watson swivelled in the middle of the pitch and sent a lovely through ball to Reid who managed to round the keeper but over ran the ball to prevent him shooting, the ball was then cleared as far as Riach but his first touch let him down with an open goal available.

The game was flowing end to end and becoming quite strung out, Lochee Utd thought they had broke with Blackwood who was poised to shoot but was correctly given offside.

Roselea made a change on 68 minutes with Watt coming on for Ross.

The game was still in the balance however Lochee Utd had a good spell when they forced a string of corners. Voight had a low drive from a tight angle well saved by Mcleod at his near post.

Reid then almost broke when Watson played a great ball to him but he was unlucky as the ball did not fall kindly for him as he broke away.

Roselea then threw Brand & Cruickshank on for Anderson & Reid in the last 10 mins to try and take the tie to their visitors.

In a late flurry Lochee Utd had three chances to win the tie. Hagan had a low drive well blocked by Mcleod then he had a free kick from 25 yards just go wide when it looked a certainty to be in. At the death the normally reliable Blackwood screwed a shot wide when he looked certain to score.

Full Time: Montrose Roselea 1 Lochee Utd 1

The match then went straight to penalty kicks with Watson missing and Reid, Craig & R Taylor scoring for Roselea with Gates missing, Oleary & Hagan scoring and Blackwood missing to send Roselea into the next round with a 3-2 win.

As usual the lottery of penalty kicks was not the best way to win a game of football but Roselea can take a lot from the match and certainly matched their opponents who boast bags of Junior experience. Roselea had the upperhand in the first half with Lochee’s late surge perhaps costing them with the missed chances. Roselea will now enter the Inter Region part of the cup with the long trip to Portgordon Vics (Buckie) in the 3rd Round on Sat March 9th.  Roselea had some outstanding displays with some of the younger players relishing the experience.

Next week Roselea travel to Title favourites Kirrie Thistle who had a resounding 4-0 win over Forfar West End. The match kicks off at 2.30pm

SWIFTS FLY INTO 5th ROUND

JEANFIELD SWIFTS v MONTROSE ROSELEA

EMIRATES SCOTTISH JUNIOR CUP 4th ROUND REPLAY

SAT FEB 16th 2013

Roselea travelled to the Riverside Stadium Perth for their 4th Round Emirates Junior Cup replay full of optimism after they matched the Perth Premier League side in the game at Montrose. On the downside they travelled without Ross Mcleod who was unavailable and 37 year old Ronnie Massie took over in-between the sticks. Calum Rae was still carrying a knock although he took a place on the bench however Paul Taylor with cracked ribs from the first tie was still missing. Roselea also announced the signing of two promising local players before the game. 19 year old Marcus Watt joined from Arbroath FC until the end of the season and 18 year old Johnshaven lad David Beedie came in on loan from Montrose FC. Watt was injured and did not feature but Beedie took a place on the bench.

After selling their ground at Simpson Park in Perth in 2006 this was Roselea’s first visit to the impressive Riverside Stadium which is a tremendous facility and one which Junior Clubs should aspire to. After some doubts about the game being on due to frost which never transpired the pitch was in great condition and extremely flat.

Roselea: Massie, Allan, Whyte, Reoch, Ryan Taylor, Urquhart, Collier, Anderson, Ross, Cruickshank & Watson. Subs: Reid, Milne, Riach & Beedie.

Roselea as in the first tie at Broomfield Park set up with a 4-5-1 formation aiming to frustrate the opposition and counter attack which worked with some success at Montrose. They had a great chance to take the lead in just 4 minutes when Ryan Taylor burst into the Jeanfield box taking a Craig Anderson chest down into his stride but his low shot was blocked by the advancing Bruce.

Jeanfield then attacked and when a cross fell to Gavin Anderson his goal bound shot was blocked and behind from a corner in 6 minutes.

Roselea’s good start continued with another strong run from Anderson in 8 minutes this time he played the ball to Cruickshank and he cut in on his weaker right foot with the end result the ball going over the top.

Roseleas good start fell to pieces with a poor goal lost in 9 minutes. Roselea lost possession at a throw in and the ball was cleared to HOLDEN who found himself in space before rounding Massie and slotting home from 16 yards.

In 14 minutes Massie came to Roselea’s rescue when he turned a John Anderson header behind with the great save to his bottom corner of the goal.

In 16 minutes Jeanfields Gavin Anderson was lucky to stay on the pitch with a very late and reckless tackle which saw the referee produce a yellow card.

It was becoming all Jeanfield at this stage and Ryan Taylor had to head a dangerous Mackie cross behind with Anderson looking to pounce. From the corner Gunnion volleyed goalwards with Whyte blocking for another corner.

Roselea had another break at the Jeanfield end with Collier taking in a Taylor throw in before swivelling to try and get a shot in, the ball then broke  to Calum Watson but he couldn’t get the ball under control to get his shot away in 22 minutes.

Roselea were having a brighter spell and in 26 minutes Urquhart found Anderson breaking into the box and although he managed to get his left footed shot away it was off target.

Holden of Jeanfield was causing Roselea problems down the right hand side and he created a similar chance to his first one in 28 minutes but this time after rounding Massie his shot was off target with two Roselea defenders getting back to cover as well.

In 30 minutes Jeanfield thought they had doubled their lead when Gunnion got a free header from a Holt corner and it looped just over the top rippling the net from behind to make some fans think it had gone in.

It was all Jeanfield at this stage and Roselea were guilty of conceding too many free kicks around the box. In 34 minutes Mackie flighted in a great ball to John Anderson who flicked the ball goalwards however only a brilliant save from Massie who tipped the ball onto the bar prevented a goal and Urquhart followed up to clear the danger.

In 38 minutes Collier broke along the Jeanfield by line coming in from the left hand side and tried to catch Bruce out at his near post with a low shot. Watson also had a rare chance and a great blocking tackle from Gunnion prevented a shot on goal.

Just when it looked Roselea had defended well enough to go in one goal down at half time, disaster struck with a cruel goal coming on the stroke of half time. Holt struck a free kick from 30 yards out and it bent around the wall with Massie looking in control however the ball squirmed out of his hands and trundled into the net. There was barely time for Roselea to restart before the ref blew for half time.

Half Time: Jeanfield 2 Roselea 0

Both teams started the second half very quietly with neither creating any chances as Jeanfield looked to make sure of their lead with Roselea looking for a way back into the tie.

Roselea made a change in 50 minutes with Urquhart coming off and Beedie making his Roselea debut.

Jeanfield scored with the first real chance of the second half in 56 minutes when Holden broke down the right and sent in a deep cross which was nodded back across the face of the goal by John Anderson for his namesake Gavin ANDERSON to score from close range.

Roselea made a second change with Dale Reid coming on for Michael Cruickshank in 73 minutes. Roselea had a couple of sorties into the Jeanfield last third but Craig Anderson with strong runs and Danny Ross trying to get down the right were thwarted by some resolute home defending.

The tie was put out of Roselea’s reach with a fourth goal by Swifts in 78 minutes, this time John ANDERSON got his name on the score sheet with a bullet header from a corner.

Anderson and Collier both had attempts but something was saying that it wasn’t going to be Roselea’s day.

Holt had another chance to strike a free kick in 87 minutes this time his effort was only just off target as the game petered out.

Just to rub salt in Roselea’s already sore wounds Jeanfield scored a fifth and in a mirror of the first half it came right on time. Gavin ANDERSON sent a long ball up the line to Mcallister before carrying on his run into the box and finishing well from 10 yards out.

Final Score: Jeanfield Swifts 5 Montrose Roselea 0

Although the final score line may have slightly flattered the home side the result was never in doubt. The two late goals in each half were killers for Roselea. There were two major factors that could have swung the game with Ryan Taylors early chance and Gavin Andersons yellow card both decisive moments. Nobody could grudge that Jeanfield Swifts deserved to win the tie and have a very experienced side in comparison to Roselea whose younger players will have gained valuable experience from the tie. Both Danny Ross and Craig Anderson were stand outs for Roselea but there were some who perhaps didn’t play to their full capability on the day.

On the plus side there were two good scorelines for Roselea in the league with leaders North End going down surprisingly 2-1 to bottom club Coupar Angus who picked up their first points of the season and Forfar West End also lost 5-4 at Downfield. West End are visitors to Broomfield Park this Saturday with a 2pm KO.

CLASSIC SCOTTISH TIE ENDS ALL SQUARE

MONTROSE ROSELEA v JEANFIELD SWIFTS

EMIRATES SCOTTISH JUNIOR CUP 4th ROUND

SAT JAN 19th 2013

To most outsiders there was almost disbelief when this Scottish Junior Cup tie went ahead whilst almost every other game in the country was off due to snow and frost. Only Falkirk in the East Region and three West coast Junior games went ahead. The pitch was wet and expected to cut up but both sides and the match referee were happy to proceed on it. On the pitch Roselea had one injury worry and Calum Rae failed an early fitness test and did not make the squad.  Premier League side Swifts were watched by Ralph Brand and a tough game was expected against a very experienced side.

Roselea: Mcleod, P Taylor, R Taylor, Reoch, Whyte, Urquhart, Collier, Anderson, Ross, Cruickshank & Watson. Subs Allan, Brand, Riach, Craig & Reid.

Both sides took time to settle on the slippy surface but it was Roselea who produced the first chance when Calum Watson broke on the right and his cross found the side netting in 4 minutes.

Roselea set their stall out with Calum Watson as the sole striker and this allowed Jeanfield to settle and spray passes along the back four.

Jeanfield had a great chance in 5 minutes with Roselea claiming for a foul on Ryan Taylor as he attempted to clear then the ball broke to Holden and his shot was saved by the feet of Mcleod.

Roselea got back in the action 5 minutes later when Cruickshank crossed and although Watson won his header he was adjudged to have pushed Whitehead in the box.

Ross then had a decent left footed effort from 25 yards as Roselea showed they were not going to be standing down in this tie. Anderson of Jeanfield had a strike from the edge of the box in 17 minutes but once again Mcleod was well positioned to hold it.

Play raged to the other end in this pulsating cup tie and Cruickshank’s shot from the edge of the box was deflected just behind for a corner. Cruickshank also took the corner and a great run and flick from Urquhart saw the ball head to the far post but there was no Roselea poacher on hand to capitalise.

Roselea were defending sternly and there was four blocks in the 6 yard box to eventually clear the ball after a scramble in 21 minutes. There was an almost identical scramble in the box 5 minutes later when Mackie cut the ball back but once again Roselea cleared through Ryan Taylor.

Calum Watson showed great strength in 34 minutes when he chested a Paul Taylor ball down before shooting just over the bar. Roselea had to make an enforced change in 37 minutes when Paul Taylor fell awkwardly and had to leave the field for treatment. Graeme Allan took his place and slotted in at right back.

On 41 minutes Anderson went on a surging run and ended up shooting just wide as both teams tried to break the deadlock. There was a spate of bookings as half time approached. Whyte and Gordon were booked after a skirmish and from the resulting free kick Holt blasted the ball into the wall. The ball broke to the other end and Cruickshank committed Gunnion to a tackle which also ended in a yellow card.

Half Time: Roselea 0 Jeanfield 0

Roselea made a positive start to the second half when Cruickshank and Watson combined well with the latter’s dangerous cross having to be headed behind by Gordon.

Roselea had a great chance in 47 minutes when Deans cleared the ball only as far as Cruickshank who hit a well struck shot but Bruce held well.

In 53 minutes Craig Anderson cut in from the left leaving two men in his trail and elected to shoot, screwing the ball wide when Watson was well placed in the middle.

Four minutes later there was a further scramble in the Roselea penalty area but Taylor and Collier combined well to clear the danger. In 60 minutes Anderson hit a curling shot that just swerved round the post much to Roselea’s relief.

There was a controversial moment a minute later. This time the scramble was in the Jeanfield box when Bruce and Anderson failed to clear a corner and the ball was hit off Collier’s back and seemed to hit the back of the stanchion before bouncing back into the keepers hands. Roselea’s celebrations were cut short however as neither referee nor his Assistant seemed to have spotted this and keeper Bruce played on.

Once again the play swung to the other end and Holt had a low shot which went agonisingly wide. The referee awarded a corner when Mcleod didn’t seem to get a touch on it.

In 72 minutes the resolute Roselea defence once again blocked a certain goal with Ryan Taylor the hero as the ball struck his back.

Dale Reid replaced Michael Cruickshank in 75 minutes as Roselea went a bit more attacking in a bid to win the tie.

Jeanfield were awarded a penalty in 78 minutes and it seemed a harsh decision with both Holt and Reoch in mid air the Roselea defender was adjudged to have pushed his opponent. After Reoch received a booking for dissent HOLT stepped up and took a perfect penalty giving Mcleod no chance.

As play resumed Roselea Manager was dismissed for his comments to the Assistant referee remonstrating the two decisions that had gone against them.

From the kick off Roselea almost got a fortuitous break after Watson’s 30 yard shot was heading well off target and as Bruce ran to keep it in play the ball hit a divot taking it goalwards and somehow Bruce kept his feet to recover the position.

Roselea deserved an equaliser on the balance of play and that came in 85 minutes. Reid flicked the ball on and WATSON showed great determination to hold off the Jeanfield defender before slotting a low shot into the net despite the efforts of Whitehead who almost cleared. Broomfield Park erupted as the Scottish Cup trail stayed alive.

Gordon had one last effort for Jeanfield with the ball just dropping over the bar but neither side could argue that a draw was a fair result.

Full Time: Montrose Roselea 1 Jeanfield Swifts 1

Referee G Beaton

This was a very entertaining Scottish Cup tie watched by a healthy crowd swelled by the lack of Junior fixtures in the area. It was played in the correct spirit and well handled by the referee despite the error for the goal not given. Both camps will agree that this was a fair result with Jeanfield opening well and creating a few chances before Roselea took the upperhand in the second half. The sides will now play again this Saturday for the right to progress to the 5th Round. The match will be decided on penalty kicks if all square at the end of the 90 mins. Kick Off is 1.45pm with the Roselea bus expected to leave at 11am. Please contact Roy Gill on 07908763219, cost £10.
