ROSELEA HIT TOP FORM
MONTROSE ROSELEA V DUNDEE NORTH END
SAT APRIL 6th 2013

Roselea welcomed league leaders Dundee North End to Broomfield knowing victory was vital to maintain their promotion bid and stretch their unbeaten run to eight games. James Collier returned to the starting line up with Michael Cruickshank dropping to the bench.

Roselea: Mcleod, P Taylor, R Taylor, Rae, Reoch, Whyte, Anderson, Collier, Watson, Reid & Ross. Subs: Cruickshank, Watt, Beedie, Riach & Craig.

Roselea have a big shout for a penalty in 4 minutes. Calum Watson dummies the ball for the Dale Reid to chase in the North End penalty area but he is caught by the keeper as the ball runs out of play with the ref awarding a goalkick.

6 minutes gone and James Collier is brought down 25 yards from goal. Dale Reid steps up and his effort dips just over the bar. Minutes later Watson beats the offside trap and his cross finds Reid clear on goal but the referee blows for offside.

11 minutes and the Roselea take a deserved lead a Danny Ross freekick falls to the unmarked James COLLIER in the box and he reacts the quickest to slide the ball home from the despairing attempts of the keeper Fotheringham.

14 minutes gone and Anderson has a long throw in line with the penalty spot with Collier outjumping everyone and his header is well held under the bar by Fotheringham.

17 minutes and the Roselea double their lead when Reid chases down a defenders attempted passback keeper rushes out only for his clearance to hit REID and he shows great composure to roll the ball into the net from 15 yards.

North End get their first chance of the game in 23 minutes a slack pass in midfield and McComskie runs in on goal and his shot is well saved by Mcleod.

In the space of 2 minutes McNaughton and McComskie are booked as North End are struggling to cope with Roseleas movement and pace.

32 minutes a warning for the home side as McComskie picks the ball up and glides past 2 defenders fortunately shoots narrowly past the post with Mcleod beaten.

Moments later North End are caught again when Whytes long ball has the keeper scrambling out his penalty area from the on rushing Reid.

Just on half time the Roselea are caught sleeping when McComskie intercepts the ball but blazes wildly over the bar.

Half Time: Montrose Roselea 2 Dundee North End 0

The second half starts with North End refusing to hand the ball back as Paul Taylor has a head knock as the ball runs out of play. Referee at first awards a goal kick  then North End challenge the decision and a drop ball is contested on the bye line outside the penalty box. Roselea clear for a corner and from the resultant kick Mcleod makes a great save from a header.

55 minutes gone and North End are reduced to 10 men. A great pass by Paul Taylor found Watson who then back healed the ball through the North End defence and Reid ran through on goal only to be brought down by Adam Stevenson who was shown a straight red for denying a goal scoring opportunity.

From the resultant free kick Rae`s delightful cross finds Watson with a great run to the back post and just needs a touch to make it three but somehow the ball eluded him.

62 minutes gone and Reids through ball finds Watson who runs clear on goal only for Fotheringham to produce a good blocking save.

Roselea make it three on 66 minutes with WATSON closing down the defenders attempted clearance falling over in the process then picking himself up and running clear of the defender through on goal before placing under the keepers body.

Two minutes later the visitors are reduced to nine men with Barry McNaughton receiving his second bookable offence with a reckless lunge at Rae.

With 15 minutes to go Roselea freshen things up with Michael Cruickshank, Scott Riach & Marcus Watt replacing Danny Ross, Dale Reid & Callum Rae.

North Ends Browne and Ritchie are booked for dissent as frustration kicks in with the North End.

85 minutes Collier finds Cruickshanks with a great diagonal pass who in turn beats his man and hit a shot from the corner of the penalty box with the keeper well beaten.

In the final minute Mcleod denies North End a consolation goal when gathering McComskies effort with ease.

Final Score Montrose Roselea 3 Dundee North End 0

A great result and a disciplined performance with North End unable to compete with the pace and movement off the ball. Roselea sit top of the league on goal difference with five games remaining. After sitting in eighth place four weeks ago the sudden surge in form sees a remarkable change in fortunes in what is still a very tight League.

Next week sees Roselea travel to Guthrie Park to face Forfar Albion KO 2.30pm.

ROSELEA CREEP UP TO SECOND

MONTROSE ROSELEA v LOCHEE HARP

McBOOKIE.COM NORTH DIVISION

SAT MARCH 30th 2013

Roselea continued their push for the Title with a home match against Lochee Harp. A win would see them climb to at least second place but depending on North Ends result at Brechin they could even possibly go top. The visitors had seen little action in recent weeks with the poor weather and were sure to be rusty however their new Management team of Barry Britton and Cammy McRae were sure to have them fired up for the game. Roselea welcomed James Collier back from holiday and he took up a place on the bench with an unchanged starting line up from the previous week. After the recent cold snap, Broomfield Park offered some “real” spring weather for the followers of both teams.

Roselea: Mcleod, P Taylor, R Taylor, Reoch, Whyte, Ross, Rae, Anderson, Cruickshank, Reid & Watson. Subs: Riach, Watt, Beedie, Collier & Brand

Roselea started well and Reid had a shot saved from the edge of the box in 8 minutes. The stalemate only lasted for another couple of minutes as Roselea took the lead. Watson set Reid away down the right hand side and CRUICKSHANK finished well from 15 yards out.

Lochee Harp hit back in 22 minutes and Mcleod had to tip a header over the bar and behind for a corner. The corner came in and referee Ritchie caused a stir when he pointed to the spot for a handball to the surprise of the Roselea players. GORMLEY kept his calm though and struck a good penalty to bring Harp back level.

Roselea had another good move on the half hour mark when Ross cut the ball back to Whyte and he scooped his shot over the bar. Roselea were on top but couldn’t break a stuffy Harp side down.

Roselea regained the lead in 39 minutes when REID shot low into the net from 18 yards after Watson had a shot blocked on the edge of the box.

As the half drew to a close Roselea hit Harp on the break from a corner. Rae & Anderson stormed up the pitch and the ball fell to Watson who hit a well struck shot from 30 yards but was well of target.

Half Time: Roselea 2 Harp 1

Roselea came storming out of the traps with a goal coming seconds in to the half. Danny Ross went past two opponents before hitting a low shot which the Harp keeper could only parry into the path of WATSON who followed up to score.

Watson had a couple of chances just after but was thwarted by the visiting keeper who was in no mood to be beaten again.

Watson did have the ball in the net again in 65 minutes but was given offside.

Roselea made a change when Beedie was introduced for Ross in 65 minutes. Beedie was soon in the action when hit a dipping shot from 25 yards out with the Harp keeper saving well.

Harp were not out of it and a goal would have brought them back into things however Mcleod did well to beat out a shot and also saved the follow up as Roselea continued to stand firm.

Roselea made the game safe with a fourth goal in 79 minutes. RAE broke in midfield and passed wide to Cruickshank before continuing his run into the box to bravely connect with the cross and headed home for Roselea. After taking an injury he was duly replaced by Collier and Riach also replaced Anderson in a double substitution.

Roselea had two more chances close to the final whistle with Riach and Reid being unable to add to the tally. Roselea had done enough before the final whistle blew to the relief of the deflated Harp side.

Full Time: Montrose Roselea 4 Lochee Harp 1

Match Sponsor Ewan Taylor & Friends nominated the industrious Craig Anderson as their Man of the Match

This was another great display from the team with only the dubious penalty casting any doubt on the final score line. It was another disciplined performance with all playing their part in the win.

They now move up to second equal in the Table after North End managed to win 5-0 at Brechin Vics. North End are the next visitors to Broomfield Park on Saturday 6th April in what will be a massive game for both clubs. Kick off is at 2.30pm

ROSELEA TAKE THE BREAKS IN THE WIND

Posted by Roy Gill at Mar 22, 2013 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

MONTROSE ROSELEA v ARBROATH VICS
MCBOOKIE.COM NORTH DIVISION
SAT MARCH 23
rd 2013

Roselea continued their push for promotion with a home game against Arbroath Vics. These games have been very tight over the years and with a trip due to go back to Arbroath this was a crucial match with only 8 games remaining in the League. Roselea started the day three points behind their Angus rivals but also had a game in hand.

James Collier was on holiday and Ryan Taylor recovered from his injury the previous week against Brechin Vics to give the Broomfield men an unchanged starting line up for the third week running. Vics had recent signing Paul Tosh the ex Dundee, Hibs and Darlington player in their squad. There had been some doubt about the game in the morning with Arbroath’s fixture at Gayfield being postponed however the decision was made that the game should be played despite the harsh conditions.

Roselea: Mcleod, P Taylor, R Taylor, Reoch, Whyte, Ross, Anderson, Rae, Cruickshank, Reid & Watson. Subs: Riach, Watt, Beedie, Kennedy & Craig

Despite the conditions Roselea made a dream start with a goal inside 10 seconds. Ross struck a shot from 20 yards which Hutcheson looked like he had covered however the ball deflected off defender Steve FLORENCE and went into the opposite corner of the net.

After the bad start Vics settled down and forced two corners and at one of them former Roselea player Watson should have scored after getting space for a header in 7 minutes.

In 20 minutes Vics had another couple of chances to get back into the game with another ex Roselea man Fotheringham pulling out a good save from Mcleod at his near post then wasted another chance to shoot and elected to try and cut the ball back however the ball was intercepted.

Disaster struck for the visitors with a double blow in 26 minutes when Watson broke down the right and middled to Dale Reid who went between the keeper and centre half Durno before being brought down. After a slight delay referee Fordyce then awarded a penalty kick and sent keeper Hutcheson off. Fotheringham took over in goal and could do little to stop WATSON’S penalty hitting the back of the net.

Simpson had a long range effort for Vics on the half hour mark and despite starting well off target the wind made it less than comfy for Mcleod.

Calum Watson was brought down by Durno, 25 yards out on 34 minutes and after Ross fired the free kick into the wall his second effort went just over the bar.

Roselea missed a great chance for a third goal in 42 minutes that would have put wounded ten man Vics out of the game. Rae sent in a great free kick and Ross had his far post shot parried out by the stand in keeper, Watson back heeled and again the ball came back to Whyte who did not have time to compose himself and his first time shot went agonisingly wide of the post.

Half Time: Roselea 2 Arbroath Vics 0

Roselea opened well and were awarded a free kick when Watson was tackled from behind on the edge of the 18 yard box. This time Reid took the free kick and somehow Fotheringham tipped the ball over with the ball heading for the top corner of the net.

It was Arbroath Vics turn for a free kick and Tosh hit a great low ball from 30 yards and Mcleod id well to turn the ball around the base of his post for a corner in 52 minutes.

Vics were down but not out and desperate to get into the game Mcleish was next to try his luck from 25 yards out and his curling effort went just by the post in 56 minutes.

Watson had a yet another free kick for Roselea on 60 minutes and when his low *** was parried out by the stand in keeper Anderson should have done better from the follow up on the 6 yard line.

Simpson of Vics found himself with a shooting opportunity in 64 minutes and his shot was deflected high and made life uncomfortable for Mcleod who had to tip the ball over for a corner.

Vics were having the upper hand despite having the ten men but Roselea were in no mood to hand any advantage back to the Arbroath side. They finally got their passing sorted out and Paul Taylor was involved in a passing move which ended with Watson shooting just over in 75 minutes.

Vics had a penalty appeal themselves in 78 minutes when a far post cross saw Taylor and Cowan challenge for the ball with the away side claiming a foul on their player but this fell on deaf ears with the match officials.

In the closing stages of the game neither side looked like changing the score with Craig Watson trying a very spectacular effort from 35 yards out which would have been difficult enough to come off despite the conditions.

Final Score: Montrose Roselea 2 Arbroath Vics 0

The decision to play the game paid off for the home side and they were aided by two favourable breaks with the deflected goal and penalty combined with the sending off of the keeper. Despite not adding to their tally they also didn’t look like losing a goal. The win pulls Roselea up to fourth place, level on 29 points with Vics having played one game less. This also leaves them 3 points behind leaders North End having played the same number of games. North End were due to play Roselea this Saturday March 30th but in a fixture shuffle to accommodate the outstanding GA Cup ties Roselea now play Lochee Harp at home with a 2.30pm KO meaning those attending the Rangers game at Links Park can see both.

Man of the Match Craig Anderson was selected by Match Sponsors Les Davidson & Friends.

ROSELEA RUN RIOT AT BRECHIN

Posted by Roy Gill at Mar 15, 2013 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

BRECHIN VICS v MONTROSE ROSELEA

McBOOKIE.COM NORTH DIVISON

SAT MARCH 16th 2013

Roselea headed to Victoria Park Brechin to take on the Vics in what has been a happy hunting ground for them over the last few years. Roselea travelled minus the holidaying James Collier and also Graeme Allan who was released by mutal consent due to work commitments. David Beedie was missing with flu. Roselea’s Management team shuffled things up with Paul Taylor coming in at right back and Calum Rae taking up Beedie’s slot in midfield. Marcus Watt dropped to the bench with Danny Ross coming in on the right and Craig Anderson moving in field.

Victoria Park was looking in excellent condition at the start thanks to the work of the Brechin Groundsman but was likely to cut up in the soft conditions. An overnight frost had put some doubt on the game but was passed playable at 10.45.

Roselea: Mcleod, P Taylor, R Taylor, Whyte, Reoch, Ross, Rae, Anderson, Cruickshank, Reid & Watson. Subs: Watt, Riach, Kennedy & Craig.

Roselea made a bright opening and it was no surprise that they took the lead in four minutes. Ross sent Watson away on the right flank and despite being tugged back he sent a low hard shot to the front post which Jamie could only parry into the path of CRUICKSHANK who followed up from close range.

Roselea were awarded a free kick in a dangerous area in 6 minutes. Goal scorer Cruickshank sent the ball up and over the Vics wall but Jamie was well placed to save.

Vics had their first sortie into the Roselea last third in 12 minute and as the ball was worked across the pitch Lewis Robertson hit a firm shot from 25 yards which Mcleod held well.

Roselea increased their lead in 14 minutes under controversial circumstances. Ryan Taylor miss hit a cross when the ball took a bobble and sent the ball high into the air, WATSON entitled to challenge did so and appeared to fouled the keeper who fumbled the ball into the net and a goal was given.

Roselea had another chance almost immediately when Taylor sent over an early ball and Reid sliding in got a slight touch but not enough to steer the ball on target. In 15 minutes Taylor took a free kick on the right hand side and his low curling ball deceived all and went just past the post.

Brechin Vics seemed to get some breathing space for the next spell of the game but could still not break Roselea down.

It was the visitors who scored next in 34 minutes when Danny ROSS followed a Reid blocked effort and finished well from 16 yards with his left foot sending the ball high into the corner of the net.

Anderson went on a strong run in the Vics box on 40 minutes and drew Gourlay who had just been booked and was afraid to commit to a tackle however Jamie saved well at the near post.

Roselea were awarded a penalty just before half time which once again aggrieved the home side. Cairney tackled Reid on the penalty spot and appeared to bring him down after winning the ball. REID stepped up and took the kick and smashed home to make it 4-0.

Half Time; Brechin Vics 0 Montrose Roselea 4

Roselea opened the second half strongly and were awarded a free kick when Gourlay brought Reid down on the edge of the box. Anderson took the kick but sent the ball over the bar.

Roselea increased their lead to six with two goals from Calum WATSON on 52 & 54 minutes. First one came when Reid flicked a header on to Watson to calmly roll the ball in from 8 yards then Cruickshank got to the bye line and crossed to make it easy for Watson to head home his third.

Roselea made a double change in 55 minutes with the two Calum’s Watson & Rae being replaced by Watt & Riach.

Michael Cruickshank was unlucky not to make it seven in 61 minutes when he picked the ball up 35 yards out and went on a run with just the finish missing as he curled his shot round the post.

Roselea made their last change in 65 when Kennedy replaced Ross.

Anderson also had a great chance to make it seven when he showed great stamina to perfectly knee the ball at the halfway line with his momentum taking him clear however when he bore down on the Vics goal he shot tamely wide.

Roselea were dominating the game and the chances came thick and fast as Riach, Anderson and Cruickshank squandered great chances within minutes of each other.

Brechin Vics then had another spell of pressure and Buggins should have scored when he hit the post from a corner from 3 yards out.

Ryan Taylor looked to have been seriously injured in 82 minutes as he challenged a loose Anderson pass. Fyfe of Vics saw a straight red for the tackle and although Taylor played no further part the injury was not as bad as first feared. Reoch picked up a booking for his part in the “aftermath”.

Anderson once again outstripped the Vics defence and cut back to Reid however the pass was too strong and the ball went high and was tipped over by Robbie for a corner in 88 minutes as the game drew to a close.

Full Time: Brechin Vics 0 Montrose Roselea 6

From the off Roselea showed they meant business in what was one of their best performances of the season. Despite the two decisions which went their way helping matters the 3 points were always heading back along the A935. The only disappointment was the poor finishing the 2nd half which could easily have seen a far higher scoreline. The win and the fact that Kirrie Thistle and Blairgowrie drawing 1-1 along with North End being idle meant that they gained ground in the League.

This Saturday Roselea face a tougher game with co promotion chasers Arbroath Vics visiting Broomfield Park for a North Division League match. Roselea sit three points the visitors with a game in hand. With eight games remaining it is still all to play for and will be one of the tightest finishes in years.

Roselea are on the look out for Committee Volunteers from all walks of life who want to give up a couple of hours per week to help the ambitious club. There are various roles available, which will be rewarding for those with or without a football background.
