MCBOOKIE.COM EAST PREMIER LEAGUE

SAT 5th APRIL 2014

Roselea travelled to Perth to face Jeanfield Swifts at the Riverside Stadium. The game had been in doubt on the Friday with large areas of surface water but had dried out throughout the night. Both sides were desperate for the points Swifts for their promotion push and the Roselea for their  relegation battle. The reverse fixture had resulted in a 2-0 win for the Swifts mid December.

ROSELEA: Gray, P Taylor, R Taylor, Collier, Reoch, Whyte, Ross, Rae, Watson, Reid, Kennedy. Subs: Thomson, Brand, Kerrigan, & C Taylor.

Roselea shocked the home team opening the scoring in 3 minutes. Keeper Josh Gray rolled the ball out to Paul Taylor who passed on to Danny Ross he found Dale Reid in the middle of the park and he played a delightful ball to Calum Watson on the edge of the penalty area even with two defenders around him he had the time to turn and shoot high over the keeper into the top right hand corner of the net. 1-0 Roselea.

Two minutes Colliers pass finds Watson who chests the ball down to Reid and his effort goes narrowly past the right hand post.

Almost immediately the Roselea are attacking again with Danny Ross running up the wing beating the defender and his cross is only diverted by the keepers fingertips as Watson was ready to pounce.

9 minutes gone and the Roselea concede a soft goal against the run of play losing possession in their own half with Smith picking up the loose ball running on before finding Holden who beat keeper Gray with a low effort from 10 yards.

Immediately from the kick off Roselea regain the lead Rae finding Watson who runs to the bye line chips a cross over to the back post for Dale Reid to finish with an easy header.2-1 Roselea.

16 minutes chance for Jeanfield Mackie runs past Taylor finds Henderson in the penalty area but blazes wildly over the bar from 15 yards.

In 26 minutes Roselea nearly extend their lead Watson tests the keeper from 20 yards with a low powerful shot the keeper blocks with both hands the ball lands to Collier his effort hits the bar again Watson is quick to react his header is cleared to safety.

Roselea are awarded a freekick on the half hour 22 yards out Colliers effort clears the bar.

Minute later Jeanfield are awarded a freekick 25 yards out Mackie hits straight at keeper Gray.

39 minutes long corner from Mackie lands to Smith but his effort lands into the keepers arms.

Roselea close the first half with a couple of opportunities firstly Ryan Taylors freekick has no takers flashing across the goal then on halftime Reids effort blocked by the keeper who gathers at the second attempt as Watson was closing in.

Half Time: Jeanfield Swifts 1 Montrose Roselea 2

Second half gets underway with Danny Ross crossing the ball deep into the box and  a Swifts defender clears for a corner. From the resultant kick Rae fires on top of the keeper who flaps at the ball before it is cleared.

49 minutes Ryan Taylor goes in the refs book for a deliberate trip although he didn`t see the player! Mackies effort sails over the heads in the penalty area and out for a goalkick.

As the Swifts are coming more into the game as Danny Ross is next in the refs booked with atrip on Mackie. He picks himself up and his freekick is wasted as two Jeanfield players collide in the box.

58 minutes gone and Jeanfield equalise in controversial circumstances another effort from Mackie is saved by Gray as Henderson collects the ball Roselea players are appealing that the ball has gone out of play ref waves play on the ball is squared along the goal to the backpost where Jamie Reid equalises 2-2.

62 minutes Roselea have a  big shout for a penalty declined as Danny Ross is floored by Whitehead in the area.

Two minutes later Ryan Taylor 25 yard freekick tests the keeper the high powerful shot straight at the keeper palmed over the bar. From the Raes cornerkick Whyte rises above everyone but his header unable to hit the target.

A letoff for the homeside as Jamie Reid kicks out at Collier and only recieves a yellow card.

Chance for the Swifts as a pass falls short and sub Burtons pass falls to Smith and his effort goes narrowly wide.Moments later  Burton again in action beats the offside trap and his cross comes off the bar with no takers in the area.

78 minutes gone and Swifts Jamie Reid is sent off for another late tackle on Danny Ross but before the freekick is taken ref sees an incident involving James Collier and Whitehead on the edge of the penalty box.Ref sends James off for an alledged elbow. When the freekick is eventually taken Rae finds Dale Reid at the backpost with his second headed goal of the game.

84 minutes gone the ref awards the homeside a penalty from a corner kick 4 or 5 players jump for the same ball with the ref deeming an infringement in the area. Holden takes the kick and scores with the keeper going the wrong way 2-2.

Just as fulltime is nearly up the ref surprisingly awards a freekick to the homeside 12 yards from goal keeper holding on to the ball too long in the area. After the lengthy protests Mackie steps up with the Roselea players all on the goal line his powerful shot hitting the crossbar and then going out of play.

Full Time: Jeanfield Swifts 3 Montrose Roselea 3

A great battling performance today and with a bit more luck could have had the 3 points for the second time away from home this season.

HERMES SET SAIL INTO THE SEMI FINAL

MONTROSE ROSELEA v HERMES

GA CUP ¼ FINAL

SAT MARCH 29th 2014

Roselea met North Superleague side Hermes in the quarter final of the GA Cup with the winners having the benefit of a home tie in the Semi Final against either Luncarty or Islavale who also played. Hermes sit 4th in the North Superleague and the sides had last met in 2006 with Roselea winning 4-2 courtesy of a Chris Simpson hatrick. With Ross Mcleod and Ronnie Massie on holiday there was a last minute signing of 18 year old Arbroath FC keeper Josh Gray who lives in St Cyrus. 16 year old Craig Taylor was also signed on the eve of the game along with veteran Colin Kennedy. Roselea were boosted by the return of Calum Watson who made an appearance at the end of the Livingston Utd game however Stuart Richardson and Craig Anderson were both still injured although Anderson made the bench.

It was a hard and dry Broomfield Park which is in much need of rain that the teams lined up on and the surface was going to be bobbly.

Roselea: Gray, P Taylor, R Taylor, Whyte, Reoch, Rae, Kennedy, Riach, Collier, Reid & Watson. Subs: Thomson, Anderson, C Taylor, Brand & Kerrigan

Roselea took the game to Hermes and had a couple of early chances when first Paul Whyte volleyed over then Dale Reid was caught offside when he looked like he was through on goal.

In 13 minutes Hermes took the lead with their first attack. The ball was played along the 18 yard box to SHAW and he unleashed a great shot which seemed to take a defelction over keeper Gray who could do nothing as the ball dipped into the net.

There was not much to report in the next ¼ hour as with a bumpy pitch neither side could get the ball down however Roselea had a great chance in 38  mins when Reid outstripped the defender to create a one on one chance but found the feet of keeper Sweeneys legs.

Half Time Montrose Roselea 0 Hermes 1

Roselea started the second half a bit more brighter with  the Managers choice half time words possibly still ringing in their ears. Collier picked up an inside pass from Riach then shot just over the bar.Roselea were determined to get back into the game and Collier headed goalwards from a Watson cross but couldn’t get enough power to disturb keeper Sweeney.

Roselea made a change in 66 minutes with Danny Ross coming on for Colin Kennedy.

Roselea then had a big share of possession and when the ball fell out wide to Reid he smashed a volley from a narrow angle which Sweeney deflected wide.

Roselea broke again as the desperately tried to get back into the game and Watson was sent away by Ross and although his pass was deflected Reid was adjudged to be in an offside position.

Craig Anderson then went on for Paul Taylor in 70 minutes.

A minute later Roselea had a great chance to equalise when they were awarded a penalty. Collier headed the ball into the penalty area and although Watsons flick went wide the keeper Sweeney followed through and brought him down. Watson dusted himself down and after a slight delay he hit a weak shot which the keeper easily saved.

In 78 minutes Roselea almost got back on terms under somewhat controversial circumstances. The Assistant referee raised his flag for offside against Dale Reid however Danny Ross read the situation well and maintained his run which saw him cut in from the bye line only to see his shot saved by the feet of the keeper at the near post.

There was a fluttering of bookings as things got ragged then Hermes almost made it 2-0 when Wyness broke down the right and flicked the ball over the advancing Gray and as the ball bounced towards goal with Reoch trying to cover it somehow bounced over the bar.

There was to be one last Roselea chance with Watson again flicking the ball over the keeper as he latched on to a Collier header but again the ball went agonisingly wide.

Watson was struggling with an injury and was replaced by Craig Taylor in injury time who still had time to find himself in the referee’s book for a badly timed challenge.

Referee Ferguson blew for time and it was a jubilant Hermes side who celebrated their deserved victory.

Full Time: Montrose Roselea 0 Hermes 1

Roselea found it hard to play on the bumpy surface and it suited a big strong Hermes side better. Roselea improved in the second half but the missed penalty was pivotal in the outcome. Hermes played well and deserved their win and will now face Luncarty who beat Islavale on penalties. Elsewhere Dundee Violet drew at Oakley to send Roselea back into the bottom four in the Premier League. Roselea are back on League duty with a trip to Perth to face Jeanfield Swifts. The match at Riverside kicks off at 2.30pm

ROSELEA PROGRESS UP LEAGUE WITH LIVVY WIN

LIVINGSTON UTD v MONTROSE ROSELEA

MCBOOKIE.COM EAST PREMIER LEAGUE

SAT MARCH 22ND 2014

Roselea made the long trip to Station Park Livingston to face Livingston Utd. The sides met in the first game of the season with Livingston coming from behind to win 3-2. Roselea were desperate for points as the sides were level on points but the home side had two games in hand so from a Roselea perspective it was the proverbial 6 pointer. To make matters worse they travelled without the injured Craig Anderson and Stuart Richardson whilst Danny Ross was unavailable. Calum Watson was on the bench but not 100% fit. There was a surprise start for Colin Kennedy who was back from Ghana for a 2 week break from work and Craig Taylor was again listed as a Trialist.

Station Park was being rolled as the Roselea team bus arrived and it was a damp surface which looked like it would cut up as the match progressed. A chilly Broomfield like wind swept down the pitch.

Roselea: Mcleod, P Taylor, R Taylor, Whyte, Cruickshank, Riach, Rae, Reoch, Kennedy, Reid & Collier. Subs: Thomson, C Taylor, Watson, Brand & Kerrigan.

Roselea kicked off with the breeze at their backs and soon created an early chance. Collier was fouled on the right hand side about twenty five yards out and Paul Taylor sent in a great ball which Whyte headed narrowly wide in 3 minutes.

Livingston were guilty of committing four or five fouls in the next five minutes and it was going to cost them badly. Kennedy sent a free kick wide to the unmarked Cruickshank and his cross was met by a powerful WHYTE header to put the visitors one up.

Calum Rae then had a speculative volley from 35 yards when he did well to follow up a ball to the strikers but home keeper Dolan was well positioned to hold.

Roselea had a great chance to double their lead in 14 minutes. Colliers perseverance paid off as he picked up a loose ball in the box before side stepping the keeper and just as he looked to have done everything right his left footed shot from 8 yards came off the post.

Roselea did double their lead on 18 minutes. Livingston cleared a corner only for Rae to pick out Whyte who was still in an advanced position on the right hand side and he in turn squared for REID to score from close range.

Roselea came under a spell of pressure with the home side desperately trying to get back into the game. Big striker Forbes broke into the box with Mcleod saving well then Paul & Ryan Taylor both threw themselves at rebound efforts to block.

On the half hour mark Livingston had a chance when Thomson hit a disputed free kick in low at Mcleod however he saved well with no tolerance for spills.

In 37 minutes Forbes had a double chance when Mcleod saved his first shot from the edge of the box but got a second chance which the keeper did well to recover and turn into the side netting.

Dale Reid was then sent away down the left side by Ryan Taylor with him having Collier in support but a great tackle from Thomson prevented another Roselea chance.

Just on half time there was one final chance for a buoyant Roselea when Collier played a square ball to Rae who shot just over from 18 yards.

Half Time: Livingston Utd 0 Montrose Roselea 2

Livingston were out very early for the second period and looked like they were up to get back in the game. There was an early scare for Roselea when a long throw found Forbes who connected with his own header up into the air and Mcleod seemed to get a slight touch to put it behind for a corner.

Play was swinging from end to end but the next chance fell to Roselea in 55 minutes. Reid broke up the right hand side and a great run from Kennedy saw him in but he elected to cut the ball across goal when he perhaps should have shot and Livingston cleared.

Roselea had a double chance in 63 minutes when Collier squared to Reoch but his shot was blocked then the ball broke to Rae who had a curling shot go just over.

In 69 minutes Roselea made a surprise substitution with Calum Watson entering the play for Paul Taylor.

There was a strange moment in 70 minutes when referee Mackinnon took a forward roll on the ground to make the point that a Roselea player had dived for a free kick.

Roselea were not laughing a couple of minutes later when Paul Whyte was caught out by a long ball and pulled down sub Crawford and was red carded. It could be argued that Ryan Taylor was getting back to cover.

In 75 minutes Livingston created their first real chance when the ball broke to winger Russell at the far post but an excellent save from Mcleod who had saw the danger and bravely saved at his feet to prevent any signs of a comeback.

Roselea were weathering the storm as they looked to hold onto their lead with the memory of having lost several leads earlier in the season but there was a determination showing from them. A short corner almost caught Roselea out and Baxter was able to blast a shot at the near post which Mcleod helped over for a corner in 79 minutes.

In 85 minutes Rae went on a great bursting run down the right and his cross was headed just wide by Watson who had looked lively after coming on.

WATSON was not to be outdone however and he claimed his own and Roselea’s third goal right on time. Home keeper Dolan will not want to be reminded that he completely missed a clearance and Watson pounced on the chance and scored from 25 yards out with his left foot into the empty net.

This settled Roselea’s nerves and they comfortably saw out the 3 minutes of added time against a very deflated home side.

Full Time: Livingston Utd 0 Montrose Roselea 3

This was a classic example of a team working their socks of to get a result, which is something they have done all season without getting the just rewards at times. Despite the sending off they did not panic and held out well limiting the home side to few chances. The win lifts Roselea out of the bottom four for the first time this season with Kirrie Thistle going down to Penicuik and Violet drawing with Fauldhouse. Somehow it is their first points on the road this season and will give the team confidence that they can pick up other wins in their remaining 6 away matches.

This Saturday Roselea meet Aberdeen side Hermes in the quarter final of the GA Cup at Broomfield Park with a 2.30pm KO. The winners of the tie will be at home to either Luncarty or Islavale in the Semi Final. Paul Whyte will be available as his red card does not carry a suspension.

KINNOULL TAKE CHANCES AND THE POINTS

Posted by Roy Gill at Mar 14, 2014 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

KINNOULL v MONTROSE ROSELEA
McBOOKIE.COM EAST PREMIER LEAGUE

SAT MARCH 15th 2.30pm

Roselea travelled to Perth to face Kinnoull in their latest Premier League match. Buoyed by their victory over League leaders Roselea were hoping for a bounce on against a team who were sitting comfortably in the middle of the League. The last time the sides met was in Nov 2009 when Matt Miller scored one of his few goals for Roselea in a 4-1 defeat.

Roselea travelled with Calum Watson still on the injury table and Craig Anderson sat out the last of his three game suspension. 16 year old Craig Taylor was again listed a substitute.

Tulloch Park was looking in good condition and although there was a Spring like feel to the day there was a blustery wind coming down onto the pitch.

Roselea: Mcleod. C Rae, R Taylor, Whyte, Reoch, Riach, Collier, Richardson, Cruickshank, Ross, Reid. Subs: Thomson, P Taylor, C Taylor Watson & Brand.

In an even opening Roselea played the ball about well but it was Kinnoull who created the first opening when Dodd cut back and the in rushing McKinlay didn’t think he was going to get the ball and Taylor cleared.

Roselea had a claim for a penalty in 8 minutes but Collier appeared to have slipped before the challenge came in and the ref got the call right for a corner.

Roselea thought they had opened the scoring on the 20th minute. Rae played the ball square to Riach and he slipped the ball to Collier who shot from 12 yards at the angle but somehow managed to pull the shot wide of the post.

Reid then created another chance for himself when he cut along the 18 yard box and with Riach arriving to support he shot whilst off balance and the ball went very wide.

Roselea were on top and pressing Kinnoull but in a rare break they were caught out and fell behind to a counter attacking goal in 28 minutes. Fleming switched a long clearance to McKINLAY who twisted and turned Rae before slamming home from 15 yards.

In 35 minutes Whyte escaped a booking when he went in ragged on Taylor the Kinnoull striker and a free kick was awarded 30 yards out. Dougan had the ball tapped to him and he struck a great low shot which Mcleod had to hold with two players ready to snap up any spills.

In 38 minutes Roselea went two behind when a far post cross deceived Mcleod and Darren TAYLOR the ex Stonehaven striker got his head to the ball and it only just squirmed over the line.

Roselea had a great chance to get back into the game in 43 minutes when a great pass from Reoch put Dale Reid in on the keeper but his low shot found the feet of home keeper Sorely when he should really have scored.

Half Time: Kinnoull 2 Montrose Roselea 0

Roselea opened the second half still looking for something to give them hope of coming back into the game. Reid and Reoch both had little chances but could not manage to get shots away.

In 60 minutes Rae had to be replaced by Paul Taylor due to injury.

Dale Reid once again created a good chance for himself in 63 minutes when he made space in the box but once again dragged his shot wide of the goals albeit he was off balance.

Some good refereeing giving an advantage after Collier being fouled saw Reid again getting a chance to score but missed the target in 65 minutes.

In a mirror copy of the first half Kinnoull once again scored against the run of play when TAYLOR picked up a loose ball 22 yards out and struck a great low volley which Mcleod let squirm underneath him and the ball once again agonisingly trundled into the net.

Roselea made another change with Craig Taylor replacing Reid meaning that there were three brother on the pitch for Roselea. A couple of minutes later Thomson then replaced the injured Richardson.

Craig Taylor almost had the perfect debut when he found himself free inside the 18 yard box but he couldn’t get his shot on target and the ball went wide.

Roselea eventually got back into the game with a goal of great simplicity when RIACH played a one-two with Collier just inside the box and finished well from 10 yards out to make it 3-1 with 11 minutes remaining.

Just as Roselea were back in things within a flash Kinnoull sealed the win with a fourth goal in 84 minutes. Substitute FERTACZ went past Thomson and any claims for offside were in vein with Paul Taylor playing him onside and he slotted a low shot into the net from 16 yards.

As time ticked away for Roselea Collier had a good run in the box but could not cut the ball back then Ryan Taylor went on a surging run but shot wide.

Full Time: Kinnoull 4 Montrose Roselea 1

Although this defeat equalled Roselea’s worst of the season there was not much between the sides. Both teams had around 5-6 chances each and the result came from the home sides ability to convert these although three of the goals were soft. Just like in the early part of the season Roselea could not find their shooting boots and the two chances in the first half could possibly have swung the game. There were great performances from Reoch in midfield and Collier worked hard to get the ball and held it up well for Roselea upfront. Results elsewhere meant Roselea did not lose any ground and remain third bottom.

Next week Roselea travel to Livingston utd in what will be a 6 pointer match with both teams on 18 points and the Lothian side having two games in hand. Roselea will be running a bus and supporters are welcome to travel free of charge as per usual and it will leave the Golf Inn at 11.00am.
