Falcons return Home from California

Posted by Joe Chacko at Apr 13, 2007 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )
After a week long trip to Southern California the Flanagan Falcons returned home this morning with a 1 and 3 record at the Phil Nevin National Classic. The trip started out on the right foot as Flanagan and ace lefthander RJ Fondon shut out Mater Dei 5-0. The thought of a Tournament Championship quickly faded as the Falcons dropped their 2nd game 7-6 to Riverside-Poly HS. The loss snowballed into 3 as Flanagan was edged out by Tournament co-host El Dorado 8-7 and then the 2006 Tournament Champion De La Salle on Thursday 8-6. Despite the disappointing results from the tournament Flanagan is confident their experience facing some of the best competition from across the country will only benefit them in the District playoffs. RF Joel Carranza and LHP RJ Fondon were named to the the National Classic All- Tournament Team. Carranza batted .538 and extended his season long hitting streak to 22 consecutive games. Fondon pitched 7 scoreless innings and struck out 5 batters for the Tournament earning the only win for the Falcons. RJ improved to 8-0 for the season. Flanagan(16-6) will conclude their regular season schedule this week when they host Deerfield Beach on Monday, travel to Monsignor Pace on Wednesday and host Pines Charter on Thursday for SENIOR NIGHT!! The Falcons will honor their most successful Senior Class in the schools 11 year history. We encourage everyone to come out and help us recognize our 8 Seniors as they look to capture an unprecedented 3rd straight State Championship.
