News and Announcements

Flanagan came out flat in their Regional Quarterfinal matchup with District 11 foe Stoneman-Douglas allowing 3 runs in the top of the 1st inning. The game moved along until the top of the 5th inning and as Douglas got 2 runners on base with only 1 out Mother Nature stepped in. A 50 minute Lightning Delay allowed the Falcons to re-focus and get things turned in their favor. Flanagan starter RJ Fondon came back in after the delay to attempt a designed pick-off play and after a walk to Zach Davis loading the bases, he gave way to Corey Witkowski. Witkowski induced a ground ball to 3rd base for the 5 to 2 fielders choice for the 2nd out and then got Eagles DH Adam Kam to fly out to leftfield to end the threat without allowing a run.

Flanagan(20-7) would use the momentum to score a run in the 6th inning when Zach Jackson tripled to right field and scored on Rolando Gomez's groundball to 2nd base cutting the lead to 3-1. After Witkowski sat down Douglas in the top of the 7th inning 1-2-3 Flanagan came up for their last chance......and did they ever deliver. Pinch hitter Collin Martindale continued his torrid hitting with a single to right centerfield. Pichi Torres followed with a single up the middle and after a walk to pinch hitter Geoffrey Jimenez the Falcons had bases loaded with no outs. Douglas starter Steven Colangelo was lifted for their closer Adam Kam. After a strike out, Kam would walk Zach Jackson forcing home the 2nd Flanagan run bringing to the plate Broward Counties most feared hitter in Rolando Gomez. The senior shortstop delivered the biggest hit of the season with a 2 run double off the left field wall scoring Torres and Jimenez leaving Douglas(16-12) stunned and advancing the Falcons to Friday's Regional Semifinal against Taravella. Witkowski(8-1) picked up the win going 2 2/3 innings of scoreless relief with 4 strikeouts. Gomez went 2 for 4 with 2 doubles and 3 RBI and Pichi Torres went 2 for 3 with a run scored to lead the offense.

Regional Semifinal: Friday, May 2nd at Taravella HS at 6:30pm.
