News and Announcements

The Florida Athletic Coaches Association(FACA) have named their State All-Star players and coaches for the 2010 All-Star Game played in Sebring, FL. Head Coach Ray Evans was named the 2010 Class 6A COACH OF THE YEAR. Senior right handed pitcher Justin Machado was named to the State All-Star South Team while Senior OF/RHP Juan "Pichi" Torres was named as an alternate. Senior Catcher Corey Janson was named to the 2010 FACA ALL-ACADEMIC 1st TEAM. Congratulations to Coach Evans and these players for their accomplishments on and off the field this season.

The Flanagan Falcons (16-2) held off a furious seven run, 7th inning rally by the Key West Conchs (13-10), and, for the second night in a row, recorded the final out with the bases loaded, to hold on for the 13-9 road victory.  Falcons starter Adam Quiles (5 IP, 2 R, 2 ER, 3 H, 5 BB, 4 K) improved his 2010 record to 3-0 with another workmanlike effort, while junior southpaw Mike Melendez earned his first save of the season.

On offense, Flanagan was led by muti-hit nights from Matt Figueroa (2-4, 2 R, 3 RBI, BB), Pichi Torres (2-3, R, RBI, 2B, 3B, BB) and Melendez (2-4, R, 2 RBI, SAC), who leads the Falcons with a .519 batting average.

The boys in green and black finish their 2010 regular season campaign with a road game on Wednesday night at 6:30pm against South Broward, with their Senior Night home finale scheduled for Thursday at 7pm against the Nova Titans.

The Flanagan Falcons improved their record to 15-2 on Friday night with a 4-1 road victory against the Key West Conchs.  Senior righthander Pichi Torres (5-1) went the distance, allowing 1 earned run on 9 hits, while striking out 6 and walking 3.  The Falcons defense came up big, turning two in a few key spots during the game, with spectacular plays turned in by David Gonzalez, Ricky Santiago and Geoff Jimenez.

On offense, Jimenez (2-3, R, RBI, 2B, HBP), Santiago (2-3, RBI, BB) and junior Mike Melendez (2-3, R, 2B, 3B) had multi-hit nights, Torres went 1-3 with a walk, while Matthew Beauchemin (1-3, R, 2B, RBI) and Corey Janson (1-1, RBI, 2 BB) drove in key runs for the Falcons.

Flanagan is back in action in Key West at 8pm on Saturday night to complete the two game weekend series against the Conchs.

Justin Machado (7-0) remained undefeated in 2010, shutting down a potent Douglas Eagles (14-2) offense that had been averaging over 10 runs a game, and a solo shot by junior Ricky Santiago (2-3, HR, R, RBI) in the bottom of the 6th inning was the difference, as the Flanagan Falcons improved to 14-2 with the 1-0 victory.  Machado allowed 2 singles through 6 1/3 innings pitched, while striking out 4, walking 2 and hitting a batter.  Senior Pichi Torres recorded the final two outs to earn his 2nd save of the season.

Douglas starter Jonathan Lipinski (7-1) was nearly equal to the task, allowing only 4 hits and striking out 8 Falcons in 5 1/3 innings of work.  Torres and Ryan Lozada each went 1-2, while the Falcons defense was error-free in a very solid effort.

The Falcons are on the road on Monday, April 12, at 6:30pm against crosstown rival Pines Charter, before heading south to play Key West next Friday and Saturday night.

The Baby Falcons have earned their wings. Playing their final game of the 2010 season, the JV squad would finish the way they started….. with a blowout win. It would take a couple of innings to get going, but the Falcons would score 8 runs in the 3rd inning to run away from the Coral Springs Colts. The Baby Falcons finish the season with an impressive 11-2 record.

Falcons starting pitcher, David Thompson (4 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 4 K, 3 BB), would go 4 strong innings to get the victory. The Colts’ only run was unearned. Offensively, the Falcons were led by Adrian Garces (2-3, 2 R, 3 RBI), Brandon Mateo (1-2, 1 R, 2 RBI), and Christian Nelson (2-2,  1 R). Defensive gems were turned in by Jadan Garcia’s putout of a runner attempting to stretch a single into a double, and a fine double play turned by pitcher, David Thompson, and shortstop, Andres Sanchez.

Congratulations on a great season for the Baby Falcons, and special thanks to the coaching staff, Noel Figueroa and Pete Greenwood ( plus a cameo appearance by fill-in 3rd base coach, Pichi Torres). The future is bright for Flanagan baseball.
