Douglas Late Rally Derails Falcons

The Flanagan Falcons went into the Douglas game undefeated for the 2nd time in the past 5 years and both times came away with their 1st loss of the season.

In 2006 the Falcons went to Douglas with a 10-0 record before leaving with a 2-1 loss. This afternoon they faced a similar fate losing 3-2 dropping their record to 6-1 on the season. Unlike the previous loss where the Falcons trailed the entire game, they held a 2-0 lead into the 5th inning today.

Flanagan starter Mike Melendez(3-1) took the loss despite a solid performance on the mound (Complete game, 2 earned runs, 2 BB's, 7 K's and 6 hits over the 7 innings).

Offensively, Flanagan took an early lead on Eagles ace Jonathan Lapinski when Danny Zardon led off the 2nd inning with a base hit, stole 2nd and scored on an RBI hit by Robert Collin. They extended the lead to 2-0 when Andres Sanchez scored from 3rd on a sac fly by Ryan Lozada. The Falcons couldn't muster much more off the 2 pitchers Douglas would send to the mound, Mike Melendez hit a line drive single to RF in the 1st and Zardon(2 for 3) would single in the 6th inning.

The Falcons will travel to Cypress Bay on Monday for a District 12 matchup against the Lightning. The game will be at 6:30pm.
